Bush's 'Humble' Foreign Policy, Pt. 37
John Walters, the factually and jurisdictionally challenged director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, traveled to Rome recently to deliver a major finger-wagging to the Dutch, who he accused of being insufficiently enthusiastic about snuffing out the ecstasy trade.
Walters said police should be given greater powers to tap telephone conversations and Dutch authorities should make more use of criminal infiltrators [?]
This means that in order for them to infiltrate drugs gangs, justice authorities allow the informers to engage in criminal acts. But such investigation methods were banned in the Netherlands in the wake of the IRT affair in the 1990s, when a specialist police unit actively imported huge amounts of drugs while infiltrating drugs gangs.
In response, Boris Dittrich, head of the Dutch political party Democrat D66, pointed out that "we are not a province of America." (Link via Colby Cosh)

no... they prefer to be the stoogies of brussels and the UN...
jeez -- you can play political buzzword bullshit bingo with their program.
full of the "free-trade" lingo while the UN or Interpol or a whole bunch of other organizations that are against free trade etc. get more power.
there is such an underpinning of "positive rights" it's enough to make you wish to listen to, oh, anybody else...

They're either with us, or they're with the drug dealers!
To stop the constant stream of Dutch ecstasy, which is a weapon of mass destruction for our children's brains, we must make pre-emptive war on the Netherlands. For too long they have been ruled by a hereditary monarch (note: That statement is not a parody, they do in fact have a queen as a figurehead), and we will bring democracy to the people of the Netherlands. And never again will the Dutch export the drugs that wreak mass destruction on the brains of the youth!
Remember, it's for the children!
yup --queen beatrix. good ol' queen b.
on the lighter side, frederik, the next king of denmark is engaged.
wait a sec. for the children???? i thought it was to combat terror...

It is to combat terror against the children. The damage that drugs do to the children is as bad as any weapon of mass destruction. We must do whatever it takes to stop this from happening.
Remember, you're either with the children or against the children in this war on terror.
okay. we'll terrorize the children with the WMD (willful mind drugs). is that why some, um, "types" wear a towel around their heads: to hide the tinfoil that protects their brains from evil CIA globalization mind rays?
nice thoughts, BTW, on the cult of reagan etc.
my uncle is one of those who believes Prez Bush totally because bush is god fearing. (this is the same uncle who got annoyed at my wedding because there was no mention of 'god' at any point)
sheesh.

On god-fearing politicians:
If I'm not mistaken, the Apostle Paul quit his government job after discovering Jesus. Surely there's a lesson in that somewhere...
'Course, Paul's 'government job' was arresting Christians, so the whole 'discovering Jesus' thing might've made for a wee conflict of interest. So I'm assuming the lesson is that all government officials in charge of suppressing a religion should resign if they convert to that religion.
Clearly, a stupid and futile gesture is called for:

We wag our finger about the War on Drugs, they wag their finger about private ownership of firearms, lack of universal health coverage, destroying the environment, not paying UN dues that we are owed 20 times over.
It is certainly stupid foreign policy to engage in these tactics, but they should be consistent in their criticism.
Walters is like a rain barrel trying to contain the rising tidal wave of drug policy reform. When given the opportunity to sink or swim, he will most surely sink like a bad piece of rock!
Yeah, good old Queen Beatrix. Born in a hospital in Ottawa. The Canadian government actually passed legislation temporarily making the delivery room, etc. sovereign Dutch territory so that she would be born a Dutch national. They still send flowers (tulips of course) every year. And they do a damn sight better remembering Canadian war vets than my own government does. Leave the Dutch alone.
... and the dutch were the first to fight actively on the side of the US, or so the story goes, when a merchant ship fired on the invading dec 7th forces.
dunno if that's true, but it's a good story...
cheers!

I heard they actualy put a bucket full of Dutch dirt under the bed for good measure. Probably apocryphal, eh?

Weren't the Dutch the first to finance the American Revolution with a loan to the Continental Congress?
Better still, on the 50th anniversary of the Liberation, the Dutch government spent more money accomadating Canadian vets than the government of Canada did. But, of course, all the pols went first class. Assholes
On the other hand, there were more SS volunteers from the Netherlands than from any other occupied country.
Shouldn't that read "volunteers"?
i think that police have to much power as it is i mean this is just like the abortion act that bush signed if women are raped then they cant get rid of the kid before its born or if it was an acsidental birth they cant get rid of it. plus you hear storys of cops already exorciseing the power they have such as sexual harrasment and rape and forceing others to make sweet whoopie by there will. so if you give them more power they'll just exorcise it even more and come up with other foonie charges if you dont do what you want them to do again this falls under rape. think of the ones who have had this happen to them by the police before you think about giving them more power you should be actually takeing it away.
