Congratulations to Vancouver from Philadelphia!
Can you charge them with assault if they run into you?
Of course city streets were designed to be everyone's personal playground. I'm sure if I decided to organize soccer games, wiffle ball, basketball, paintball, kick the can, drag races, etc. the skateboarders would be more than willing to make sure they don't interfere with my creative fun.
The problem with skateboarders is that too many of them are extroverted, obnoxious, pseudo-bohemian losers.
Speaking of dicriminalization: Where's the hit and run 'forum,' about the apalling treatment of Mr. Sullum by Bill "O Really" O'Reilly?
🙂
"The problem with skateboarders is that too many of them are extroverted, obnoxious, pseudo-bohemian losers."
As opposed to you, whose only problem appears to be being a judgemental asshole. Having some knowledge of skaters and their rapidly evolving culture may help you prevent this painful and socially uncomfortable condition. (Full disclosure: I used to skate.)
Spork,
Take it easy, it's only sarcasm.
The police shouldn't be singling out skateboarders for being inconsiderate, especially when they aren't being inconsiderate. I've had enough close calls with bike messengers and people rollerblading on the El platform to know that inconsideration cuts across all walks of life.
And the idea that skateboarders as a group have a higher proportion of "creativity" among its members in comparision to other subcultures is just nonsense.
(full disclosure: I stole the sentence in question from the Eightball comic books which I bought at a skate shop!)
NP, up late and drunk, just jumping to the defense of the skaters. And I always did like "Eightball".
