Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee Rally for School Choice

Houston, Texas hosts National School Choice Week kickoff.

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) joined thousands gathered in support of school choice in Houston, Texas on Saturday. The event helped kickoff National School Choice Week, a yearly event that seeks to spotlight educational freedom.

The liberal Jackson Lee and the conservative Cruz may not have much in common, but both strongly support expanding K-12 options for parents and students.

    Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee Rally

    Well that doesn't happen every day.

  • ||

    Well holy shit, I've said before that I can't think of one thing that my retarded rep has ever done right but there you go. Doesn't make her much less of a piece of shit though.

  • playa manhattan||

    I'm willing to bet that she's doing it for the wrong reasons. Maybe the unions haven't donated enough to her yet.

  • John||

    I think Lee is more nuts than she is a crook. She might believe in it.

  • cavalier973||

    School choice isn't nuts!

  • John||

    Sure it is not. But Jackson Lee might agree with it for some nutty reason.

  • cavalier973||

    She probably wants segregation, so that little black children don't have to be oppressed by White Learning.

  • C. S. P. Schofield||

    I don't care. If the little black kids are taught to read effectively, even if it's with "Afrocentric" bushwa, they will come out ahead. Also, if they have any brains, they'll hit their teens and rebel against whatever the school is spoon feeding them anyway.

  • John||

    Cruz is just doing this to hide that he is a racist.

    DERP

  • cavalier973||

    Vraiment! He fears that if people of color are allowed to have school choice, then they might become more competitive with white people in the workforce!

  • cavalier973||

    Ted Cruz and Sheila Jackson Lee, huh? You know who else believed in School Choice?

  • Brett L||

    Does it matter? Cruz is already worse than H****r

  • cavalier973||

    Oh. I was going to say this guy.

  • Acosmist||

    Choice is good. Stop stealing people's money via taxes and then choice will grow naturally to meet demand.

  • cavalier973||

    If we allow school choice, then people might send their children to schools that teach Creationism instead of Evolution, and that cannot happen.

    I mean, how backward might our society still be if the guys who developed the Scientific Method were ignorant Creatards? We'd still believe that the earth is flat and stuff like that which the Church taught for thousands of years as they burned witches and stuff.

  • C. S. P. Schofield||

    It saddens me to say that I run into far too many people who actually believe this.

  • albo||

    I haven't see an odder pairing than when Julia Roberts married Lyle Lovett.

    If Cruz and Lee were a sandwich they'd be peanut butter and insanity.

  • KMA Too||

    Maybe Lee thinks this is about aborting schools, as is always a woman's choice.

    I mean, it would make more sense than her suddenly seeing things in a more liberty-minded way.

  • C. S. P. Schofield||

    This is what comes of not paying attention to what your opponents actually believe; LOTS of far left African Americans are for school choice, because they have seen what trying to reform the existing system does and are at least dimly aware that White Intellectual Liberaldom is The Man too.

  • american socialist||

    i see most of the "libertarians" here are doing the usual water-carrying for the RP and people that keep lists of people in the Communist party. That Cruz guy is one libertarian!

  • The Immaculate Trouser||

    Yup, that Sheila Jackson-Lee is one hardcore conservative. Derp.

  • AlgerHiss||

    Are Jackson Lee and Nene Leakes the same person?

  • DarrenM||

    It's good that Cruz is focusing on a single issue (for now) that can have bipartisan support and might actually get passed instead of grouping multiple demands that will ensure everything fails. I just wish someone would focus on the debt.
