University of Colorado
political scientist Roger Pielke's new book, The Climate Fix:
What Scientists and Politicians Won’t Tell You About Global
Warming, explains how climate science became thoroughly
politicized. Pielke also argues that the "iron law" of climate
policy is that economic growth will always trump carbon rationing.
Nevertheless, Pielke thinks that uncertainty about the course of
climate change over the next century is actually an argument for
action. Specifically, Pielke argues for a massive government-funded
research effort to develop new low-cost no-carbon energy sources.
Reason Science Correspondent Ronald Bailey finds Pielke to
be a clear-eyed analyst of climate change issues, but a bit naive
when it comes to government energy R&D.
