A short history of marijuana, brought to you by the folks at Showtime, in anticipation of the new season of the excellent Weeds, which starts a new season on June 8.
I look forward to the day (coming soon, I swears it!) when kids ask their parents, "What did you do during the drug war?"

I was on the front lines smoking my brains out. But I don't like to
talk about it.
Might as well post this too, Nick:

I can't agree. Like every show, Weeds has deteriorated
season by season. From the start it was nothing but Desperate
Housewives with Pot.
Two problems with Weeds.
1) The milk has been expired for at least a decade.
2) The concept has entropied. There is no reason Nancy couldn't
have kept making money just selling weed, but for the sake of
end-of-season cliffhangers, she has gotten involved in
progressively wackier situations.
Bonus reason: the precocious youngster is cloyingly annoying
(clonnoying!)
1) The milk has been expired for at least a
decade.
Is that urchin speak for Mary-Louise Parker is too old to be hot?
Only if you still have a fake ID. She's not hot because she's
anorexic.
Finally, a pro-weed video with great production values that I
can send to my friends without wincing. Thanks Showtime!
Sadly, the same can't be said for the Reason thing. Geez, where'd
you get that footage? Off of a VHS tape from 1997 that you found
under your bed?
Yeah I wish Weeds had stuck to the, err, weed too. Something
about a tunnel to Mexico in the back of a maternity store, and an
affair with a drug lord/politician seems kinda far-fetched.
The plotlines with Doug and Andy have remained pretty enjoyable
though.
Oh and Mari, the "no stranger to the bong" thing is a bit of a
joke, so don't get too worked up about its production value. I
personally like the little quip about college football playoffs at
the end.
And noone noticed the video said Reagan started the War on Drugs
in the 80s?
I was born in '77, and did alot of drugs...so I can be excused from
not remembering that bit o history..only, asking my parents,
reading recorded history and a simple search of Wikipedia proves
that that ain't really true.
Other than the fact that I actually paid attention in American
History class in school, even tho I hated it. I knew Nixon started
the War on Drugs...I just had to lookup the year.
Which makes me wonder..why? It's Showtime, so I assume they're
Liberal and hate Conservatives, so there is plenty of reason for
them to hate Nixon. Hell, yer average Republican hates Nixon, gave
yall a bad reputation. So why bash on Reagan?
Reagan was pretty libertarian..for a Republican. He did his best on
gay rights, for his time, he wasn't
uber-social-conservative(Religious Right).
So....I ask Why? Nixon is a perfect target, and also historically
accurate. Why distort history to mention Reagan?
