Rioting erupted last night in the "crime-ridden" French district of Villiers-le-Bel, located some 20 miles from Paris, after a police car collided with a stolen moped piloted by a local teenager, killing him and his passenger. What seemed initially to be an unfortunate accident—witnesses said the boys were travelling "'at very high speed' when it cut across the path of the police car"—ended in Yankel Rosenbaum territory, with rioting locals torching cars and hurling Molotov cocktails at police responding to the call. The BBC has more:

Police said 21 officers were injured in the rioting in the northern suburbs of Villiers-le-Bel and Arnouville. A prosecutor has ordered an internal police inquiry into possible manslaughter and "non-assistance to persons in danger". The violence - reminiscent of riots in 2005 - lasted for more than six hours.

In Bolivia's political capital of Sucre, protesters rioted after allies of President Evo Morales, in a nod to the December 2 vote in Caracas, passed a preliminary bill through parliament that would undo constitutional limits on presidential re-election. It still must be approved by referendum, which a Morales spokesman said is forthcoming, though declined to give a specific date. From Bloomberg:

Two anti- government demonstrators and a police officer were killed in the past two days, Efe said, adding that calm was restored after the police yesterday withdrew from Sucre's streets.

The riots began Nov. 24, when members of the government- controlled assembly barred opposition delegates and passed the draft version without having read its content, Efe said. One protester remains in a coma and several others suffered serious injuries, Efe said, citing medical reports.

In fact, the leader of one such group (not yet linked to by Reason AFAIK) said the road to "empowerment" is organizing Latinos to vote. "What does a revolutionary do in the U.S. today?" asked Gonzalez. "Take power wherever you can" by electing Latinos to city, state, and federal offices. (That group is/was funded by the FordFoundation and is frequently presented by the MSM as mainstream).

Earlier today, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon issued a statement expressing concern over the state of democracy and human rights in Bolivia.

That will definitely help things out a lot. Nothing makes dictator wannabes sit up and take notice like a UN Secretary-General statement expressing concern. Maybe he should send it to Venezuela instead, I hear word of a toilet paper shortage there.

Birthright citizenship similarly rewards lawbreaking, and must be stopped. As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the perverse incentive to sneak into this country remains strong. Citizenship involves more than the mere location of one's birth. True citizenship requires cultural connections and an allegiance to the United States. RC, I'm neck deep in latinos in my neighborhood and I'm seeing the 2nd generation assimilation at my kid's elementary schools. From what I've read, it's usually by the 3rd or 4th generation you get full assimilation, but hey, it's only my anecdote.

I take issue with denying benefits to taxpayers regardless of citizenship status. It seems to me if you're here on a green card, your kids should still be allowed to attend public schools. What are the public sector benefits beyond schooling, library cards and "free" emergency medical care that we offer to non-citizens? Medicaid and medicare are already citizen-only.

I puzzled over the violence/rage distinction for as long as it took me to read the thread, while guiltily enjoying the troll ping-pong (laughter aids digestion).

Conclusion re the former: a upset speaker failed to use sufficient care selecting words, perhaps unaware that his ejaculation would be immortalized. Actually, that could apply to certain portions of the latter phenomenon as well.

My guess is that to the distinguisher/non-differentiator, violence connotes (vs. actually denoting) illegality, and rage appears either value-neutral or a wholesome response to social oppression. Result of tendentious private conflations: incoherence.

Also, the spokesperson may simply not have been educated enough to know the difference between the concepts.

In any event, further research is warranted. [Not - so please resume paying the trolls.]

The hope is that by showing him support, we will demonstrate that libertarian ideas have some political traction, and induce the two major parties to become slightly more libertarian in their leanings to attract the Paul voting block. But Ron Paul is running as a Republican, not as a libertarian. At this point, probably as many voters know he takes Nazi money as know he claims to be a libertarian. Among those attracted to him for his anti-war position are wackos from every corner of the tin-foil hat crowd, most of whom don't know libertarianism from shinola. He's a garden-variety nativist conservative on immigration and a typical fundamentalist Christian on gay rights, so he's not a bellwether for libertarian ideas on those fronts. What would you have us do, RC - ban headscarves, require Engish classes, proclaim a national language and require all public business to be conducted in it? They already do all of those things to "push assimilation as hard as possible" in France, and in case you haven't noticed, it's made the problem worse.

Forcing people to choose between losing their heritage and being a member of mainstream society, like the French do, is bad policy. If you allow people to inhabit an in-between space, it puts people on a bridge, instead of encouraging them to barricade themselves off from the rest of society.

I assume you meant Libertarian with a capital L. Regardless, I was talking about his doing better than previous libertarians, with a small L, of whatever party affiliation.

At this point, probably as many voters know he takes Nazi money as know he claims to be a libertarian. ... He has no chance of winnng and won't advance libertarianism an inch.

So, he's not well known and he isn't particularly known as a libertarian, so he won't do too much damage to public perception of libertarians. Isn't this a good thing from your perspective?
