While the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) we still have with us (and for full details on what a drag that is, see this classic Reason book review by Mike Godwin from 2001), one particularly egregious and idiotic attempt to use it has been abandoned: Internet nuisance Michael Crook is withdrawing his DMCA claims regarding the use of a Fox News screenshot of him by the nifty site 10 Zen Monkeys. (The Electronic Freedom Foundation had sued him right back for his attempts to squash fair use on the Internet.)
Scott Beale at laughingsquid.com, the Monkeys' hosting company, has all the details so far public.
My previous blogging about Crook's claims, chockablock with links for the full context.

Let's wait to see what the Crook chiseled out of 10ZMs before we get all rah rah rah. And wasn't there a contest to alter the crook photo? I remember laughing hysterically to myself.
With a name like Mike Crook, he needs to be a bit more careful
about what he does in the public eye. I couldn't have come up with
a more apropos name if I tried.
Lamar, it was this
link in the comments of the previous Mike Crook thread that you
posted that I think you're remembering.
Thanks Shawn Smith. I can't believe I posted that. I guess that pretty much kills any illusion that my memory is still intact.
Lamar,
I wouldn't be too worried about forgetting some random post three
months ago. I'm a computer programmer, and if I have to look at
code I wrote one month ago, it might as well have been written by
someone else, for all I remember about it. I'm sure your memory is
still plenty intact.

His first name could be Richard...
