Story replaced Justice William Cushing.
There was a possibility of a Justice John Quincy Adams, but he didn't want the job. Madison's other successful nominee was Gabriel Duvall. Given Jeffersonian concerns about the Marshall Court, Madison appointing in effect Marshall's protégé is a tad ironic.
Story was only 32 and served into the 1840s. He would not have if this term limit was in place:
