Argued one day, decided the next. It can happen.
Very rarely, a panel will announce a decision at the end of oral argument.
They originally had oral arguments on August 28th during a special summer session. Back then, unlike now (even if they are in recess), they were not in session during the summer. Single justices normally handled things.

The upcoming school year led them to provide a judgment before they had an opinion written. The opinion was announced on September 29.
