"Strangers on the Internet" Podcast Ep. 19: Exclusive Interview with Bestselling Author Nancy Jo Sales (Pt. 2)
Our conversation with one of dating apps' harshest critics continues
On today's episode (Apple Podcasts link here and Spotify link here) of Strangers on the Internet with co-host and psychologist Michelle Lange, we return for the second half of our exchange with bestselling author, award-winning journalist, filmmaker and producer Nancy Jo Sales. Part 1 of the conversation is available here.
Nancy Jo explains why she believes that dating apps are deeply embedded in frat boy culture and rape culture, as well as what role social media whisper networks play in protecting female app users. Why and how do dating app operators make it so difficult to conduct independent research about the apps? How do conversations between Nancy Jo and incels go down? And does she see any hope for Gen Z and dating, watching her daughter enter young adulthood in today's world? Fasten your seatbelts, this episode is a wild ride!

I normally ignore these dating posts, but these words caught my eye:
Not sure what to make of this, and I'm not going to listen to find out. But the implication is somehow that over-aggressive males are behind dating apps, which begs the question of how said dating apps can be at all useful without female users too, begging the further question of whether said females are just agency-less drones trained by the patriarchy to be submissive little whores.
Or something. It's sure a loaded statement.

She actually should blame refrigerators and microwave ovens.
What's rarely mentioned is the extent to which food technology has reduced the number of people needed to preserve and prepare food. This was passed from mother to daughters and as late as the 1950s, treating a man to a home-cooked meal was far more likely to get his interest than jumping in bed with him.
What feminists failed to realize is that they created the frat boy culture.
Or they could just do like my Daughters (Encouraged them to take a walk on the L-world side, but they love the Kielbasa)
and use another "Labor saving device" to do those jobs men just won't do anymore

And Frank, women are hard-wired for emotional attachment. Men aren't.
When Rush Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a "slut," you'd think it was the apocalypse, so many people were screaming & fainting all over the place.
If it's such a crime to call a female a "slut" based on her supposed sexual promiscuity, why is it A-OK to call males "incels" based on their supposed lack of sexual experience?
For every incel, there are a dozen volcels who aren't interested and while most are too polite to be explicit, it's a simple calculation of her body not being worth it.

But not only that - train them to look for signs of compatibility or incompatibility.

most predators are female
isn't it great?
Illustration: "apps are not designed for that".
I would say the apps that are designed for sex are more popular. Several years ago an executive at one of the big web sites told a story of how he offered users the ability to rank others' profiles separately based on appearance and personality. The two rankings were very strongly correlated. Users weren't paying attention to the words. An attractive idiot still gets five out of five for her babbling words.
