Becket Is Hiring
Becket is looking for a Counsel and Constitutional Law Fellows
I am happy to pass along this announcement from Becket, which is hiring for two different attorney positions:
First, Becket is seeking to hire 1-2 new attorneys as Counsel. Ideal candidates will have an appellate clerkship, litigation experience, and excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills. You can find more details on the position here: https://www.becketlaw.org/counsel-position/.
Second, Becket is seeking 3 or more new attorneys for its 2023-24 Constitutional Law Fellowship. The fellowship is a one-year position that is open to exceptional recent judicial clerks. It provides immediate, hands-on experience litigating cutting-edge constitutional cases under the mentorship of experienced Becket attorneys. It is also an excellent stepping stone to an additional judicial clerkship, government service, private practice, or public interest law. Fellowships start in fall 2023 and offer a competitive salary and benefits. You can find more details here: https://www.becketlaw.org/constitutional-law-fellow-posting/.

Samuel Beckett will be spinning in his grave to have a litigation shop for religious nuts named after him.
But more importantly, why are they outsourcing their recruitment work so explicitly to the (presumably federal) judiciary? Is there really no interest in encouraging law grads to do something else with their first year post-grad school than work for a judge?
Our Constitution says: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."
When U.S. government (or a state or local government) does something in violation of this prohibition, the "litigation shop" you're complaining about steps in.
It would seem that, because you consider them "nuts," you would rather see religious people's constitutional rights abused by the government. What unlovely sentiments!

They also "step in" a lot of other times.
Care to give some examples?
At least half of these: https://www.becketlaw.org/cases/
Wow. A group dedicates themselves to standing up for people’s religious rights and Martin is offended by that. He’s too damaged by politics that he can’t see that he’s the extremist here.
Pushing for expanding, seemingly limitless special privilege for religion-based claims -- as a sword and shield, so the superstitious people can discriminate against everyone else while no one can discriminate against the superstitious, providing immunity against generally applicable law (except where evangelicals don't like a particular flavor of religion or claim) -- is the activist, radical, abusive approach in modern America.
As the role of religion continues to diminish in modern America, and our population and electorate continue to improve, I expect time to sift this issue in an increasingly reasonable manner.
Yeah, like the gay cake thing. The idea that religious liberty is affected was stupid.
Just say no, you’re ugly, get out of my store.
Lol.
I assume you're just attempting humor, but on the off chance you weren't, it was named after Thomas à Becket.
As to your question: I'm not sure why you think there should be. And to the extent you're asking about the fellowships: in the real world, elite law students basically go either into BigLaw or into clerkships. Nobody is going to go to BigLaw for a year or two and then quit for a short term fellowship.
Will no one rid us of this turbulent unfilled position?
A job position that won’t start until Fall 2023? If I was qualified, I wouldn’t apply on the principle that my qualifications demand a job offer immediately.
