I saw that movie. Daniel Day-Lewis was brilliant! And Tommy Lee Jones never disappoints.
Good movie. So many things that it educated viewers on, like the importance of getting the Amendment through Congress, and the Hampton Roads conference. But as often with Spielberg, it was overwrought (too much background music and it should have ended with that scene with Lincoln walking away from the camera).
They could also have done without the elaborate dance number.
Or maybe I'm thinking of a different movie.
I just watched the dance number and fast-forwarded past all the boring stuff.
Hmm, I thought Abe's "Emancipation Proclamation" freed the Slaves, apparently not in the Union States.
Objection. Assumes facts not in evidence.
Also, not in Tennessee, and not in parts of Louisiana and Virginia (though the 1864 constitution of the "Restored Government" of Virginia abolished slavery in those parts of the Commonwealth under Union control).
