Since the usual comments on these hings are so trivial, I will point out that "July" has four letters, and 12 + 4 = XVI.
Yabut in Latin it's Iulii (since we're all originalists, amiright).
So 12 + 5 = XVII.
Well shiver me timbers! I been had! I suppose I could quibble about lower case letters, I don't know if Romans used them.
This is one amendment worth repealing. 🙂
This Amendment provided yet another way in which our system gives disproportionate power to rural white (Republican) states.
how?
The oversimplified answer is: Conservative states don't take care of the poor, infrastructure, social safety net, education, etc., to the extent liberal states do. So they get more federal aid. Which comes from the revenue allowed by the 16A. These days the situation expresses itself in the fact that blue states (in general) support red states insofar as taxes paid vs. aid received.
A day that will live in infamy.
Oh, for hyperbole's sake. That phrase is associated with a day of a treacherous attack that killed thousands and launched us into a war that killed hundreds of thousands. A different system or federal taxation hardly qualifies for such language.
Government is a wholly subsidiary of the lawyer profession. No matter the elected figurehead, they make 99% of policies. Remember that when filling out a tax return.
