Today in Supreme Court History: May 13, 1912
5/13/1912: Seventeenth Amendment is approved by the House of Representatives. The Senate approved it the prior month. The Seventeenth Amendment was ratified in 1913.

An amendment is needed to establish national voter initiatives. These would make laws, and overturn the awful judgement of the lawyer dominated legislature and Supreme Court. Voters should also be allowed to impeach Supreme Court Justices. They have done so much damage to our nation, being wrong almost always. It should impose voter initiatives in all the states, as well.
We are sick of the self dealing, failed, worthless, lawyer profession. Self help must come to lawmaking.
Of the states that pushed this Amendment over the top, only one (North Carolina) was a member of the former Confederacy.
Surprise, surprise. Some things never change. Right wing hostility to democracy is one of them.
