Will shortly be invoked as a defense by Trump supporters on trial for smashing Capitol windows. A stupid, meritless argument, but by now that's their specialty.
And what has been the left's rationale for all the burning, looting, and murdering this past year, many times in many cities, including setting up autonomous zones with government support and devoid of government protection, in clear violation of the Constitution's guarantee of a "republican form of government"?
Crickets.
That is not a thing most on the left are defending. It's just that you conflate protests with all that stuff.
The left defended the Antifa/BLM riots all spring, summer and fall.
The Democrats encouraged it, pandered to them, gave them government resources, egged them on, rationalized why more violence was necessary. They were Democratic riots from start to finish.
And you pretend they weren't, now.

Right above you, where Sarcastr0 said "That is not a thing most on the left are defending.", contrary to all media reports all year long.
That's tellingly circular logic.
-You: Leftist riots
-Me: No, leftist protests. Jackhole riots.
-You: No, the left loves the riots
-Capt: citation needed
-You: Sarcastro above saying they are protests.
He asked for a citation backing up me saying leftists pretended the Antifa/BLM riots weren't riots. I steered him to your comment saying that.
"The Democrats encouraged it, pandered to them, gave them government resources, egged them on, rationalized why more violence was necessary."
Citation needed. And I mean an actual Democratic politician -- not just a stray commenter on a blog.
Unless the first two words out of a conservative's mouth are "I'm sorry" or "I apologize" these days, why should any decent American care about anything that follows?
This blog, too, has blood on its hands and plenty for which to seek forgiveness.
