FNU LNU (no relation to GNU)
The Supreme Court just agreed to hear a case captioned,
TANZIN, FNU, ET AL. V. TANVIR, MUHAMMED, ET AL.
Fnu—what kind of a name is that? Danish? Afrikaner?

No, just "First Name Unknown"; likely old hat to many of you, but I didn't learn about it until eight years ago, when I saw United States v. FNU LNU (2d Cir. 2011). It's a federal thing, by the way: A Westlaw search for na(fnu lnu) finds 2516 federal cases (99% since 1994) and only 41 state cases.

Have you ever met John NMN Smith?
What about Jack NMN Reacher? I haven't met him personally, but feel like I know him pretty well.
Well, I'm an NMI myself, so I've known about that for a while -- but FNU and LNU took longer to get to me.
Well, I have six degrees, and just learned that 15 seconds ago. I did see the caption of the case and wondered about the strange names.
I have six degrees too, but it's degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon.
(Chuckle) on the off -off-chance you're not kidding, you just made it easier for anyone seeking your True Name; there are only 800-ish people with a Bacon number of 6 (and if you happen to have also separately outed yourself as a lawyer, I guess the count drops to single or low double digits:-) )
I was kidding, but then, I *would* claim that, wouldn't I?
When my now ex-wife entered the US, her visa had her first name as FNU. Then we got married, and the marriage license had her last name as "legally omitted"
