Real Clear Column on Debt Collection
Earlier this fall I wrote a law review article on "The Law and Economics of Consumer Debt Collection and Its Regulation." It will be forthcoming next year in the Loyola Consumer Law Journal and the working paper is available here.
Chad Reese from the Mercatus Center and I have published an op-ed column that appears today on Real Clear Markets, "The Unintended Consequences of CFPB Debt Reform" that summarizes the article and discusses the subtle tradeoffs associated with efficient regulation of debt collection practices by lenders and third-party collectors.
