My upcoming talk at Zombie "Appetizer" night at the Woolly Mammoth Theater

On Sunday, November 9, beginning at & PM the Woolly Mammoth Theater in Washington, DC will have a Zombie "Appetizer" event focusing on the portrayal of zombies in popular culture, including scenes from the new play Zombie: The American. I will be giving a brief talk and Q&A about political themes in zombie stories. A description and tickets are available here:

American pop culture is experiencing a "zombie zeitgeist"-from movies to TV to political metaphors, the undead have never been more popular. What are they exactly, and what does our current obsession with them mean? Playwright Robert O'Hara, director Howard Shalwitz and their team will share scenes from the play, clips from zombie films, and then get the audience on their feet for a zombie parade that just might make its way into the show.

My talk will draw on themes from my chapter on the portrayal of political ignorance in vampire and zombie stories, in the recently published Economics of the Undead: Zombies, Vampires, and the Dismal Science (edited by Glen Whitman and James Dow).

For longtime Volokh Conspiracy readers in the Washington, DC area, this may be your one and only chance to see a VC blogger give a talk about zombies!
