Remy: You Need to Calm Down (Taylor Swift Parody)
Remy can’t shake off his distaste for San Francisco NIMBYs
HD DownloadCity Hall doesn't want Remy to build on that blank space.
Parody written and performed by Remy; video produced by Meredith and Austin Bragg; music tracks, background vocals, and mastering by Ben Karlstrom.
LYRICS:
Tried to rent a place in The Mission
So I opened up the page to the listings
And I'm just like "Damn."
"It's 17 grand."
So I go to City Hall, ask a question
Any chance that we can have new construction?
And they're like "no way."
"That's not okay.
"See we've made the deduction that we need a big reduction
Of any brand new construction. You kidding?
That really suctions. Ok.
Now let's open up for public debate.
What?
Uh oh! Uh oh! Uh oh! Uh oh! Uh oh!
This would leave me scarred
Not in my back yard!
And they're just like
Uh oh! Uh oh! Uh oh! Uh oh! Uh oh!
A community marred!
Not in my back yard!
I work in this town
You need to calm down
Our community is great if you don't know
To change it's character would be loco
Our neighborhood's neat
That guy just crapped on the street
Homes of luxury are an outrage!
Low income housing's what we want made!
With new construction killed
That kind of housing's being built
This region's added jobs by the gobs
That's led to mobs of folks driving here in their Saabs
And they're pausing because there's nowhere to go (GENTRIFIERS!)
And sticks and stones never built new homes
So Uh oh! Uh oh! Uh oh! Uh oh! Uh oh!
This isn't that hard
Not in my back yard!
And they're just like
Uh oh! Uh oh! Uh oh! Uh oh! Uh oh!
You need to just stop
This is a crosswalk
I work in this town
You need to calm down…

The lyrics alone read like a version of sqrlsy that isn’t entirely financially impotent and irrelevant and defeated and old and obsolete. I liked the video, in fact I got Weird Al vibes.
Just eat it
This is one of Remy’s best!
The lyrics were perfect and the reproduction faithful and, because of that, it just absolutely and painfully sucked. Not the slightest bit of criticism of Remy (or Swift more broadly), I think we just found a/the singularity of suckage from which even Remy’s brilliance cannot escape.
Jacked be NIMBYs!
Be or by? Sounds like both in the case of San FranSicko.
Encogitationer – – It has to be “be” because of the old nursery rhyme.
–
Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Jack jump over the candlestick.
–
So it might go on like this…
Jacked be NIMBYs, lay no brick
NIMBYs need to read SanFranSick
Well plyed, Remy! With all the NIMBYs and control-freaks cstanding in the way of development, San FranSicko will Never, Ever, Ever, Ever…get it’s shit together!
Be careful how you protest, Remy! The NIMBYs might call the FBI and report you as a “Domestic Terrorist” for opposing CRT (Construction Restriction Totalitarianism.)
Opps! Well played (as well as well plyed.)

Another good one from Remy. Wondered where he’s been….thought he fell off the earth.
As for Taylor Swift, I wouldn’t know her music from Lady Gagme.
I’ll take Linda Ronstadt, Janis or Heart anytime.
Joplin or Ian? They’re both good, though Joplin was more ubiquitous.
Good lord what drivel.
Another great video, thanks Remy!
Excellent video.
As always great stuff. Can you do a Jen Psaki’s “Circle back” twist on Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl”? Just for the awesomeness that is your vids.
