What Should Have Happened at the GameStop Hearing
Can’t work Zoom, will fix financial markets.
HD DownloadLast week, the House Committee on Financial Services held a hearing to discuss online brokerage firm Robinhood's decision to freeze trading of GameStop after the stock's price was driven up by amateur investors on Reddit's WallStreetBets forum. Committee Chair Rep. Maxine Waters (D–Calif.) moderated the hearing, which included testimony from Robinhood CEO Vladimir Tenev, and representatives from Reddit, Melvin Capital, and Citadel Securities. Retail investor Keith Gill, who made millions investing against Wall Street short sellers, also appeared at the hearing.
It didn't go very well.

Like any of those idiots understand the stock market.
They don't need to understand it to regulate it.
They are top men. Top. Men.

Auntie Maxine suggested people should get refunds when they lost money on stock trades
*facepalm* She can't really be that stupid... of wait, nevermind. Yes, yes she can be, she's a congress critter.
And she's a female democrat. That's strikes 2 and 3 right there. She's out.
Best I can tell she didn't actually say that. It was an internet rumor that was (understandably) believable.
Yeah, I thought it was true, but it’s not. (Sad face)
Excuse me, I think you mean the Stop Market.
How dare you make money without including us!!! Nervy peasants!!!
What is it with that guy's eye?
I will never forget Maxine Waters trying to force Mr. Toyoda to admit that Americans can make cars just as well as Japanese workers. About ten years ago, Toyota was having public quality and safety issues at the time. Toyoda kept trying to explain to Waters that the cars in question were all manufactured in the United States. Waters couldn't get it through her head that "Japanese" cars are manufactured in the United States. It was like having a discussion with ChemJeff--no knowledge, no logic, no shame--and absolutely sure she was right.
That exchange was some time ago and is now considered waters under the bridge.
Did she collect a toll?
We all pay it. Everyday.
Well done sirs and madam.
Too funny!
If I'm not about to pass out because I'm laughing so hard I can't breath, it's not too funny. It is very funny though.
Wait. Hold the phone.
Rashida Talib is claiming that people in her district are melting snow so they can flush their toilets?!
1) We need a fact check on aisle 6.
2) Because people in her district are poor, what, are the rest of us supposed to stop trying to make a profit?
What an idiot!
Because people in her district are poor, what, are the rest of us supposed to stop trying to make a profit?
Apparently. That's the only way that non-sequitur would even remotely make any sense in the context of a hearing about Gamestop. I suspect she's not very bright.
I hope they aren’t burning fossil fuels to melt that snow!
3) Someone should probably inform her constituents that there's no need to dump snow in the urinals and dumping melted snow in a frozen toilet won't solve the problem.
Seriously, I don't think I'm mentally damaged enough to understand the problem. They can afford heat but not water? They can afford both but can't get them to the same room? I mean the 'shitting in winter' problem has been solved since the first bear in the woods stood upright.
I don't see how people melting snow to flush their toilets isn't either a meaningless anecdote or a testament to the abject failure of the last 5,000 yrs. of human civilization. And I say this as someone who's melted snow in order to use the bathroom.
I might understand if she were representing a district in Texas suffering from a power outage.
WTF is she talking about? People in Michigan don't know what to do in a snowstorm, huh?!
I call bullshit.
I can say that there was some of that last week in Texas. It wasn't money that was the problem, it was our hurricane-resistant water systems were very much not freeze-resistant.
Yeah, she's talking about Michigan!
I understand that, but Talib's district is in Southern Michigan, weatherproofed and largely within walking distance of a working restroom. This makes it seem like a major portion of Talib's constituency has been wallowing in their own slop for months and if they found themselves locked in a cage, wouldn't figure out to shit in the corner.
How smart can her constituents be? At least the ones voting for her. If someone votes for that crazy bitch they must be a moron.
Great stuff!
What should happen at the GameStop hearing? Legislators should bring in unwanted video games for store credit so they can pay less for a new game they want.
I dunno, SMOD?
no GameStop hearing should have ever been.
The casting decisions here were pretty much all spot on.
The shot about savers not being able to beat inflation was on the fucking money. They have us between a rock and a hard place.
Seriously, how can anyone look at Waters and Tlaib and not see just how dumb niggers are?
