The Green Party's Jill Stein: Why Choose Between a 'Fascist' and a 'Warmonger'?

Q&A with the Green Party presidential candidate.

The 2016 presidential race features two of the most disliked candidates in electoral history, which has given a boost not only to the Libertarian Party's Gary Johnson, but to Jill Stein, a 66-year-old Harvard-trained physician from Massachusetts who's running on the Green Party ticket.

"We have every reason to be terrified of Donald Trump in the White House," says Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein. "But I don't think we should fool ourselves into thinking that we should sleep well at night with Hillary Clinton in the White House either. They're both dangerous and unacceptable in different ways."

Stein is currently polling at about 2 percent, trailing Gary Johnson, who is on track to take about 4 percent of the popular vote. Stein, who sat down last week for an interview with Reason, says this election year presents an historic opportunity for third parties.

"This is a realignment election," says Stein. "And you have this marriage of the Democratic and Republican parties now. And its important, I think, for Greens and Libertarians to be working together right now to just break through this stranglehold and be challenging them right out of the gate."

Stein says that if only the U.S. were to adopt a new system of voting, Americans wouldn't have to make this choice between voting their conscience or the lesser of two evils.

Stein and the libertarian Gary Johnson have a lot in common on topics like foreign policy, marijuana legalization, and same-sex marriage. But on economic issues, the two candidates couldn't be farther apart.

For instance, Stein favors a single-payer health care system, which she claims would cost taxpayers nothing. She also says she would pour federal money into the clean energy sector and end our use of fossil fuels by the year 2030.

Stein has been battling the perception that the Green Party is anti vaccine after she told the Washington Post that "there were real questions that needed to be addressed. I think some of them at least have been addressed. I don't know if all of them have been addressed" with regards to small amounts of mercury once found in childhood vaccines, despite a scientific consensus that there's never been a link between vaccines and autism or any other serious health problems.

Stein calls the media coverage of her statements misleading and characterizes it as the "birther" issue of this election, claiming that she's only calling for reforms to the FDA, which she sees as corrupted by lobbyists.

With the election just days away, both Johnson and Stein's poll numbers are slipping. One meaningful benchmark for both parties would be to win 5 percent of the popular vote. That would lead the Federal Election Commission to confer the classification of "minor party," which means they'd get easier ballot access and be eligible for matching public funds.

"It's outrageous that people should be struggling right now with this questions of, 'Do I prefer a fascist or a warmonger?'" says Stein.

    "Why Choose Between a 'Fascist' and a 'Warmonger'?"

    A rather hilarious attempt to differentiate herself from a fascist.
    What americans are forgetting is that as horrible as trump/Clinton are, the green party and its supporters have always been a herd of willing fascists.

    They are just fascists that like trees, and polar bears, and hate industry. They would be and have been willing participants in government collusion in their undying support of all things green to include the likes of the EPA, green subsidies, alternate energy boondoggles in the hundreds with exorbitant costs, and of course their willingness to regulate away all industry. Greenies just don't know they are Marxists.
    And of course, with the ascension of marxism, you can bet they love a war. Just pick up a history book.

  • Ted S.||

    For instance, Stein favors a single-payer health care system, which she claims would cost taxpayers nothing.

    Even if it didn't cost them anything financially, it would cost a lot of them their lives.

    But their live belong to the state anyway - so they've lost nothing. Its the poor state that is being impoverished here.

    Their continued existance only harms Gaia anyway.

  • Hank Phillips||

    There's precedent for that. Is someone is sick and can't afford a doctor because the doctors whored out war on drugs propaganda in exchange for protection from competition, that someone is ipso facto contraband of war and subject to confiscation. This was settled jurisprudence early on in the Civil War, and all Republicans agreed.

    Single-payer would cost nothing if all the medical service providers, docs, pharma/equipment companies, and hospitals donated their time and products for free.

  • Vernon Depner||

    Health care is a right. That means enslavement of doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals is morally justified.

    They're the ones that lied about the Harrison Tax Act and snitched on their fellow doctors to get them indicted. Look at old newspaper morgues and you'll see their articles lying about LSD and hemp. They'll get no sympathy from me, but I would spit on them if they were on fire.

    /L'il Jill Stein and average Canadian.

  • Paloma||

    Something like hip replacement can be done in other countries for far cheaper.

  • Hank Phillips||

    Deregulate. Let doctors without licenses compete--or let anyone licensed to practice medicine somewhere, practice medicine anywhere. Real doctors without borders would break that monopoly into tears of rage.

    It's called medical tourism. A flight to any country in the world is cheaper than one day in the hospital. Surely there are doctors in Japan or Italy or Spain or Hong Kong who can do hip replacement surgery.

    In this cycle Stein is the shallow wish-fulfillment "I don't understand economics" candidate. Her entire worldview is driven by the beliefs that if you both just micromanage the world and pour money into the things she likes they have total benefits and absolutely no negative consequences. So public healthcare costs nothing and has no downsides (anyone who lives in a country with actual public healthcare would like a word with you) and replacing fossils fuels with renewables would not lead into a massive decline in the standard of living (this, of course, also ignores all the other, unrelated to energy things fossil fuels are used for).

    OT: The Men Feminists Left Behind

    Men haven't gained nearly as much flexibility. The world has changed around them, but many have stayed stuck in the past. While women have steadily made their way into traditionally male domains, men have not crossed the other way. Men do more at home than they used to, but women still do much more — on an average day, 67 percent of men do some housework compared with 85 percent of women. Male identity remains tied up in dominance and earning potential, and when those things flag, it seems men either give up or get angry.

    This, perhaps more than anything else, explains the rise of Donald J. Trump: He promised struggling white men that they could have their identities back.
  • Crusty Juggler||

    Men don't need more masculine posturing or promises to restore them to forever-gone greatness. What they need is to make their own move toward gender equality, to break down the stereotypes and fetters of masculinity. Feminists, understandably, have focused on women; we have enough to do without being tasked with improving the lot of often-misogynistic men, too. If the white men who feel ignored, disrespected and lost want to see their lives improve, they should take a cue from the great feminist strides women have made and start to embrace that progress. Life really is better with more fluid gender roles that allow individuals to do what they're good at instead of what's socially prescribed. Every feminist I know will tell you that men bring much more to the table than physical strength or a paycheck, and that we would love a world in which men were free to be resilient and tender, ambitious and nurturing, expressive and emotional.

    Reminder: this election will change nothing, and the aggrieved will still feel like victims.

  • Suicidy||

    Like all those fauxminists that think feminism is having everything handed to them without earning it because men owe them, but somehow they are also 'equal'.

  • Rhywun||

    a world in which men were free to be resilient and tender, ambitious and nurturing, expressive and emotional

    Yeah, chicks love that.

    And why is only *white* men who haven't found their inner woman yet?

  • Vernon Depner||

    They can't emasculate the black men, too. Someone has to father their grandchildren.

  • Heroic Mulatto||

    As I've said before, be prepared for an onslaught of "disenfranchised white males" concern-trolling for years to come.

    How is QE not a huge gift to the banks? How is QE not a transfer of wealth from the middle-class to the financial elites?

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    QE consists of buying US Treasury bonds only. Or sometimes GSE bonds 100% backed by the US Treasury.

  • Pompey||

    Oh here we go with the T-bonds fetish again.

  • Chip Your Pets||

    Except the Fed can't buy Treasuries directly, so they buy them secondhand, with a markup of course.

    You know who they buy them from?

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    They but them from Primary Dealers, you tampon. With a tiny commission.

  • WhatAboutBob||

    When the Fed buys Treasuries the money goes to the big banks which also drives down interest rates. That hurts everyday savers but not the banks. Trillons of dollars went to the banks to build up their reserves.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

    Idiocy. US Treasuries are open market operations. IOR built up reserves.

  • timbo||

    The FED buys treasuries to prop up the US bond market. Otherwise, there would be a market imposed premium if they were to not sell. The gov't would have to drive up the yields to find buyers, making our market charade obvious because our paper is not worth shit.
    Concurrently, it artificially drives down mortgage rates and short term rates. The FED gets the treasury to print money to devalue the debt as well while the actual QE transaction is a fiat exchange of bogus paper basically.
    The banks do get a gift in the form of dirt cheap overnight borrowing rates. They also get to keep there reserves at the FED with a better return than they can get in the credit markets.
    The FED is scum and an implied bailout to the big banks. It alone is the largest culprit in the demise of this country.

  • Pompey||

    You're right, QE would have been more accurately to characterised as theft from all savers. Or more generally, a debasement of the currency on the backs of the unconnected. How are those stocks doing, loser?

    I like how the word fascism gets tossed around liberally by people who have no idea what it means.

    Fascism is an economic system wherein a socialist state maintains some veneer of capitalism. Government control of the means of production vs. the outright ownership of it under a communist system. Looking at their platform the Greens are just another flavor of fascists.

    Have you got a mirror Jill?

    Maybe someone could explain to me exactly how Trump is a fascist.

  • Palin's Buttplug||

  • Sevo||

  • GILMORE™||

    Non-populist Non-Socialist is "neocon"

    i think the term "neocon" is pretty exclusive to foreign policy.

    Neocons was the term to describe jewish intellectual leftists who left the Democratic party over their opposition to communism in the cold war (and their support for Israel).

    They advocated an aggressive American foreign policy that vigorously defended democracy & capitalism abroad, as well as insisted on US support for Israel's security - both things that their colleagues on the left disagreed on.

    On domestic political and economic matters, they were mostly supporters of a strong welfare state, unions, big government, etc. The only thing that made them "conservative" was their attitude re: the use of US Military Power in pursuit of an other wilsonian foreign policy... aka "making the world safe for Democracy".

  • Pan Zagloba||

    That was how it started, but much like "fascist" it ended up as catch-all for "people we don't like" by the end of Bush first term. I mean, fuck, Haper government in Canada was routinely described as "neocon".

    as for 'neoliberal'.... i'm not actually sure that word *ever* made any sense. At least not to me. I've never seen it used in any way consistently even among the Lefty intellectuals. It seems to mean whatever they want it to mean.

    It is a statist ideology, with many similarities to socialism.
    Due to the left being in charge of defining words, it is classified as a right-wing ideology, purely to tar the left's opponents with responsibility for what progressives have wrought.

    WWII Japan was imperialistic, not fascist. Fun fact: the Baathist party of Saddam Hussein was fascist.

  • Chip Your Pets||

    Hillary OFF the hook as FBI Director James Comey reveals the department will NOT change its July decision after further email investigation

    'Based on our review, we have not changed our conclusions that we expressed in July with respect to Secretary Clinton.'

    Comey then thanked the FBI staff who worked on the investigation.

    It is believed the team of investigators have sorted through about 650,000 emails in just nine days.
  • Playa Manhattan.||

  • ||

    It is believed that David Patraeus was prosecuted for letting his girlfriend, who did have security clearance, see classified emails that she shouldn't have had access to.

    Hillary Clinton had her fucking maid printing out gobs of classified emails and she gets a pass. It is naked corruption and favoritism with a big 'fuck you' painted on it.

    Comey is a disgrace. If they were on the verge of having an insurrection within the FBI before, they are sure gonna have one now. Also, Clinton is going to have the specter of this over her forever in addition to thousands of FBI agents with a knife aimed at her back. I don't think this will end well for her.

  • Suicidy||

    It. Ight very well be just about time for that revolution I've prognosticated for the last few years.

  • VG Zaytsev||

    I don't buy the FBI insurrection story.

    I see no reason to believe that the agency is anything beyond a corrupt incompetent mess.

  • GILMORE™||

    i know the media won't keep it straight, but just because the investigation into "mishandling of classified intelligence" has been 'closed' and sees no further interest in the new cache of email, that doesn't mean anything about Hillary being "off the hook" re: any of the other (at least) 2 investigations ongoing.

  • The Grinch||

    If she wins she's off the hook. She'll be untouchable and will go to her grave guilty as sin and free as a bird.

  • GILMORE™||

    If she wins she's off the hook.

    I doubt she'll be able to immediately shut down any investigations in the Clinton Foundation

    even if she wins she's going to be battling this shit for the next 2 years. impeachment chances are like 30%

  • The Grinch||

    Don't the JD and the FBI ultimately work for her and couldn't she just tell them, either overtly or covertly, to kill the investigation? She might not be able to kill a congressional investigation but those always end up being completely ineffective clusterfucks anyway.

  • GILMORE™||

    Don't the JD and the FBI ultimately work for her and couldn't she just tell them, either overtly or covertly, to kill the investigation?

    nope. and she wouldn't be the only target of any investigation into the CF.

  • Chip Your Pets||

    Nope? I'm afraid the answer is yes. Very yes.

  • Chip Your Pets||

    President can do anything they want with the executive branch. They can fire anyone they want, aside from the VP. The MSM is going to cover for her completely, so there won't be any more public backlash than there already has been.

    Impeachment is irrelevant. As long as she has 34 senators in her corner to prevent conviction she's untouchable. That's why presidential elections matter. That's why nominating a clown for president is a really bad idea.

  • GILMORE™||

    They can fire anyone they want,

    You know how its obvious you're Bo? Because you talk with utter certainty about shit you know nothing about.

  • Chip Your Pets||

    LOL. You looking in the mirror when you say that?

    Bill Clinton fired the FBI director upon assuming office in 1993. It'd be swell if you could point me to the law passed since then that forbids firing the FBI director.

  • GILMORE™||

    the investigation of the Clinton foundation would not be stopped by the replacement of a department head. If that were the first attempted actions by the new Clinton presidency they'd find themselves in the same situation as linked above.

    there are also US attorneys in NY State that would have oversight over those investigations that couldn't be replaced by fiat.

    as I already said... even if she wins, she's going to be getting dogged by this stuff nonstop for at least the next 2 years.

  • Chip Your Pets||

    If that were the first attempted actions by the new Clinton presidency they'd find themselves in the same situation as linked above.

    The same situation, meaning a bunch of noise being made by Congress? With the important difference that the media will side with the president in this case.

    US Attorneys can in fact be replaced at will. They serve at the pleasure of the president.

  • Chip Your Pets||

    And there was nothing illegal about the US Attorney firings, however unethical they were. It was all MSM smoke and mirrors. Once they took office, the Obama administration tried to scare up some of the famous "false statement to investigators" charges, but couldn't even succeed on those.

  • GILMORE™||

    you're correct on the technicals and still wrong on the point.

    Firing US Attrny's may be discretionary, and raise only 'ethics questions' which congress could hem and haw about...

    Firing US Attrny's currently investigating your own corrupt family-run-billion-dollar-money-laundering scheme? Not quite the same thing.

    Regardless of the authority the executive has, there are limitations to the covering-up they can do of their own historical malfeasance. And you can be pretty damned sure that if Hillary wins, that the limits of this sort of thing is going to be tested constantly. And that the net result is going to be perpetual-scandal-investigation and scandals-surrounding-the-repression/interference in the scandal-investigations.

    Which was exactly my point.

  • VG Zaytsev||

    Dude, she's admitted to committing enough felonies to send a thousand people away for life, been spared by naked political corruption at the FBI and DOJ. But all of a sudden when she's president those to organizations are going to grow a spine and do what's right?

    Oh but the press will get her, the same press that has been colluding with her campaign for more than a year.

    Face it, the federal government and the press are corrupt as hell and if she wins on Tuesday she gonna get away with everything

  • Gluteus Maximilian||

    Any federal prosecution has to go through the laughably misnamed "Department of Justice." Clinton's AG will be a totally corrupt political hack out of the same mold as Clinton herself, not to mention Holder and Lynch. This will be the first presidential administration run without even the appearance of propriety. The media will ignore the corruption and will act as a megaphone for administration spin.

  • ||

    "This will be the first presidential administration run without even the appearance of propriety."

    I think that started in 2008. See: Fast and Furious.

  • Chip Your Pets||

    Hard to understand what the point of this is.

    Comey is clearly bent for HRC. That's not even disputable. So it has to be in service of her somehow.

    Was this latest debacle just a ruse to provide him an opportunity to clear her a second time, just before the election? So now the Clintonites can say "she's been thoroughly cleared by the FBI twice now, what is wrong with you people still bringing it up?"

  • Mazakon||

    Was this latest debacle just a ruse to provide him an opportunity to clear her a second time, just before the election? So now the Clintonites can say "she's been thoroughly cleared by the FBI twice now, what is wrong with you people still bringing it up?"

    That's my take on it. Plus it let Clintonites fume that Clinton is the most looked into person and found nothing wrong with her and adds to the persecution narrative.

  • The Grinch||

    Likely just a way to keep the disgruntled FBI agents on the reservation and their mouths shut.

  • Chip Your Pets||

    That's what I thought it was too. But that purpose would be violated with this most recent letter, which would enrage unbent FBI personnel even more than they were before.

    Now if they publicly come out they are just political hacks and not impartial arbiters of justice.

    they haven't even gone through the new cache at all.

    all he said was they're not changing their summary back in July... which was a 'non-recommendation to prosecute re: the mis-handling of classified material'

    this doesn't say anything about the substance of the information in the weiner cache. or of its relevance into other investigations. Its simply saying that as of now there's no change to the "absence of recommendation"

  • Chip Your Pets||

    That is incorrect. The letter Chaffetz released from Comey claimed that they had reviewed all the new communications involving HRC.

  • GILMORE™||

    says absolutely nothing about the investigation of the clinton foundation being conducted by the NY field office, or any investigations into other related Clinton misconduct

  • Chip Your Pets||

    There is nothing new as regards the investigation about the Clinton email server -- the only investigation that Comey has spoken about before, and the only investigation that Comey wrote to Congress about originally. Presumably that's what the original poster meant.

  • Ken Shultz||

    This is John being facetious.

    It's still about Pennsylvania. If Pennsylvania goes to Trump, he has a decent chance of winning.

    If Trump loses Pennsylvania and Florida, I go to bed early.

    If Trump wins both of them, I'm staying up late.

  • Ken Shultz||

    Try this map.

    http://www.realclearpolitics.c.....t_map.html

    Color in Florida for Trump.

    Leave Pennsylvania gray.

    Color the rest of the states however you think they're likely to go.

    I bet it all depends on Pennsylvania.

    Change some of the other close states around if you want to.

    I bet it all still depends on Pennsylvania.

  • LynchPin1477||

    From 538, it seems like New Hampshire could be decisive.

  • Ted S.||

    New Hampshire and FL. According to RCP's no-toss-ups map, Trump is at 241. The state with the smallest Hillary margin is... Florida, with its 29 EV.

    538 has Trump at 266 from places above a 50% likelihood of his carrying. The one closest to but just below 50% is... New Hampshire, and its four EV.

    Both of those get Trump to exactly 270.

  • Ken Shultz||

    They have 4 electoral votes.

    I don't understand how they can be decisive.

    Without filling in Pennsylvania, my map has them tied at 259 electoral votes each.

    Pennsylvania is worth 20 votes.

    On my map, I've given Nevada's 6 to the Democrats. I gave New Hampshire to Hillary, too.

    Change both Nevada and New Hampshire, it doesn't really matter.

    It's all about Pennsylvania.

    They've got Trump ahead in Ohio, so I gave Trump Ohio.

    It's all about Pennsylvania (and Florida).

  • Ted S.||

    RCP and 538 both have Nevada for Trump. (And one of Maine's CDs.) 538 had Florida in the Trump column but not NH; RCP has NH in the Trump column but not FL.

  • Ken Shultz||

    The point is that it probably doesn't matter if Trump or Hillary wins Nevada and New Hampshire.

    Pennsylvania makes the difference between winning and losing in all likely scenarios.

  • Ted S.||

    Trump can win NH, NV, and FL and get to 269 or 270 (the latter with that Maine CD, where both RCP and 538 have him ahead). PA doesn't matter in that scenario.

    I like the 538 chart that has a winding snake path with the states Hillary's most likely to win on the left, all the way through the most likely for Trump on the right, with 270 EV in the middle, as a way of showing the state of the race. (They actually have Trump with a greater chance of flipping CO than PA, although I think Trump is closer in PA in the RCP average.)

  • Ken Shultz||

    Trump can win NH, NV, and FL and get to 269 or 270 (the latter with that Maine CD, where both RCP and 538 have him ahead). PA doesn't matter in that scenario.

    If Trump doesn't win Pennsylvania in that scenario, Hillary gets Pennsylvania's 20 electoral votes.

    That's the point.

    It's a zero sum game.

  • Ted S.||

    Change both Nevada and New Hampshire, it doesn't really matter.

    Actually, that (without PA or the Maine CD) would get Trump to 269, sending the election to the House, where he'd be elected.

    I don't know who would become Vice-President. There's the possibility of a 50-50 split....

  • Charles Easterly||

    Every moment the Clinton campaign talks about the FBI is at best a wash for them and at worst to the detriment.

    That isn't what she wants to be talking about.

    This is what media manipulation is all about: You can't control what the media says on any subject, but you can control the topic of conversation.

    The FBI is not the topic of conversation Hillary wants to be having the day before the election.

    She wanted people to have forgotten about the FBI completely.

    P.S. Shrike's prognostication record isn't very good anyway. Did he ever pay up on his bet?

  • Brochettaward||

    Hillary's campaign, which has not previously denied the authenticity of any Wikileaks documents, is now preemptively claiming that any bombshells released before the election are fake. Is this just covering their ass, or do they know that Wikileaks has access to something really big and they've been saving this whole "IT'S FAKE" nonsense for it?

    It was always odd they didn't play that card sooner. I mean, with the way the media just repeats all of their nonsense, it seems pretty low risk to me.

  • John||

    It's like teller Ng your wife of a woman calls tonight and says she is your mistress she is probably lying

  • GILMORE™||

    now preemptively claiming that any bombshells released before the election are fake

    what are you referring to?

    on a complete side note = i continue to think its hilarious that the news media will always take "Markets Go Up" as a signal affirming whatever they think is the most important news of the day.

    e.g. "Australian trading is up! Clearly influenced by FBI comment"

    there was some similar thing a few weeks back, where the WaPo claimed that "Oil Markets were responding positively to stronger polling for Clinton"... when buried in the business-section there was a little story in a side-column noting "*russia and saudi arabia agree on production-cuts".... which obviously had nothing to do with the issue.

  • Brochettaward||

  • GILMORE™||

    yeah, i don't really see how that's news. Its like them spraying "OFF" before heading into the woods. "just in case those photos of hillary eating babies @ the Bohemian Grove orgy pop up #Photoshopped"

  • Ken Shultz||

    Yeah, politically connected companies going up because they're about to get funded isn't necessarily what's good for the economy.

    The left understands all that--right up until the moment the markets go up because a Democrat got elected.

    Again, what progressives think about how the economy works is dumber than creationism.

    What's more believable?

    1) The universe is so vast and complicated, only a super intelligence could have created it.

    2) Hillary Clinton has the super intelligence necessary to centrally plan our economy for growth.

  • Pompeius the Quant Retard||

    "Markets Go Up" as a signal affirming whatever they think is the most important news of the day.

    There's a term for this and I'm going to coin it now: Shriekanomics

  • Ken Shultz||

    God only knows what might crawl out of the woodwork.

    The whole time she's been investigated, she and her campaign have been breaking the law left and right. She can't stop herself. That's what happens when you completely disregard the law. You end up breaking it sometimes.

    And she's never taken the law seriously.

    Ken Starr had to consolidate scandals because they kept breaking the law--even as he was investigating the old scandals.

    There's all kinds of shit she's done to break the law over the last few months. She's always broken the law. Now the White House is on the line. Why would she stop breaking the law to get ahead now?

    Maybe she'll appoint William Weld as her special prosecutor, and we can all have a good laugh.

  • ||

    The same thing happened in 1931. The Liberal Party was adamantly against Prohibition and other Blue Laws, but the Dems co-opted that crucial plank. This got the genuine liberals the repeal they wanted and the Dems the victory they wanted. The difference is that by 1932 everyone understood that Prohibition enforcement under Saint Herbert--Hoovering money out of banks and brokerages by asset forfeiture--contracted the money supply. But when George Waffen Bush did the exact same thing, electronic media told vidiots to ignore all evidence and believe greedy "over" speculation was to blame.

    It is with deep regret Jill Stein couldn't join in the debate.
    I could've used the laughs.

    Jill Stein is a moron and a loser. This is all that needs to be said:

    Stein says that if only the U.S. were to adopt a new system of voting, Americans wouldn't have to make this choice between voting their conscience or the lesser of two evils.

    Yes! If only the US adopted the kind of parliamentary system that brought people like Hitler and Mussolini to power! The kind of system that has communists and fascists sitting in many of today's European parliaments! Why don't we adopt such a system, in order to spare the poor American voter the unpleasantness of having to make a choice! (That was sarcasm, in case any of you Jill Stein fans out there don't realize it.)

    "This is a realignment election," says Stein

    It is. And "realignment" in the US happens by the two major parties realigning and splitting the population differently between them. And that's a good thing.

    So, libertarians need to figure out how to have more influence in one of the two parties; the Republicans look like the better choice at this point. Probably a good strategy is to figure out how to push the Christian conservatives into the Democratic party, where they can go on nanny-stating with the best of them.
