J.D. Vance Is Playing Dumb About Socialism

HD Video Download

This week, editors Peter Suderman,  Katherine Mangu-Ward, and Nick Gillespie are joined by reporter Reem Ibrahim to discuss Vice President J.D. Vance's bizarre definition of socialism. They examine whether Vance genuinely believes what he's saying or is attempting to redefine socialism to avoid acknowledging the Trump administration's own big-government policies.

Next, the panel discusses America's growing $2 trillion deficit, the rising cost of Social Security and Medicare, and the generational divide between older Americans receiving government benefits and younger workers paying for them. The editors also examine youth protests in France, where students are demanding improvements to public schools despite the country's already extensive government spending. They then discuss allegations that U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle offered political access in exchange for help paying off personal credit card debt and what the controversy reveals about government corruption. Finally, a listener asks about Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's plan to publicly broadcast an execution and whether turning capital punishment into a spectacle could encourage extremism.

“They examine whether Vance genuinely believes what he's saying or is attempting to redefine socialism to avoid acknowledging the Trump administration's own big-government policies.”

He knows goddamn well what he’s saying is bullshit. Just like the “eating the cats, eating the dogs” bullshit that his deplorable base swallowed. Before he sold his soul to Peter Thiel he was a Harvard educated, best selling author. Now he’s just a spineless weasel pandering to the bottom of the barrel of American society.

      >>Harvard educated, best selling author

nobody looks up to that either.

Vance is not playing. He really is that stupid.

    1. Zeb   24 minutes ago

Being wrong (and I don't think "wrong" is the right way to look at this, see my comment below) and being stupid are not the same thing. Vance is far from stupid.

hard to believe for one second we're anointing a Bernie Bro with a solid four years of politics behind him

    1. Zeb   25 minutes ago

I'm coming around to your characterization of Vance. I kind of wanted him to be good because he is pretty smart and articulate and less irritating than Trump. And very good at dealing with hostile press. But he's not looking great for those who care about freedom and small government.

  5. Zeb   28 minutes ago

Of course he doesn't believe it literally. It's both a dig at American "socialists" for not being serious about anything (including socialism for most of the useful idiots) and just jumping on the bandwagon for whatever the latest thing and pointing out how fucking batshit the things the contemporary American left claims to believe are. Personally I'd rather he just say it straight. But it seems pretty clear what he's doing.
