Zelenskyy Goes Viral, Russia Goes Nuclear
Plus, where do the Reason editors get their news?
Reason editors Matt Welch, Nick Gillespie, Katherine Mangu-Ward, and Peter Suderman discuss the world's reaction to the ongoing Russian invasion as well as what they'd like to hear in President Joe Biden's SOTU speech.
Discussed in this show:
3:23: The world reacts to Russia's invasion.
44:15: Weekly listener question: I've been an avid Reason fan for over a decade, and as a result, I now implicitly trust Reason. While I know that Reason speaks to issues from a certain point of view, I feel like I "know" the four of you and the magazine generally well enough to trust that there is no nefarious or otherwise deceptive intent behind what you provide. Which individual journalists or outlets do you all implicitly trust in this way? Obligatory mention of Peter and cocktails. Thanks.
59:41: President Biden's State of the Union

Even with comprehensive coverage, you could get hit with high deductibles and co-pays. That's why an AirMedCare Network membership is so important. As a member, if an emergency arises, you won't see a bill for air medical transport when flown by an AMCN provider. Best of all, a membership covers your entire household for as little as $85 a year. Now, as a listener of our show, you'll get up to a $50 Visa or Amazon Gift Card with a new membership. Simply visit AirMedCareNetwork.com/reason and use offer code REASON.

“Zelensky Goes Viral, Russia Goes Nuclear”
Gun grabbers go ballistic at videos of the Ukrainian government handling automatic weapons to civilians.
"And don't even get me started about the carbon footprint of all those Molotov cocktails!"
Putin's carbon footprint is a real gas

handling automatic weapons to civilians
In occupied Ukraine, government hands automatic weapons to civilians. In unoccupied West government handles automatic weapons at civilians.
How else are they defend against selfie-taking grandmas?
I think a red SUV, and strong BLM sentiment is the solution there.
Well-regulated militia?
Your better than this
Those Javelin shoulder-fired anti-tank missiles seem pretty handy at repelling would-be invaders. Shouldn't the Supreme Court extend Second Amendment protections to include them? Talk about "being necessary for the security of a Free State".... and didn't the Founders mean to protect all small arms of military usefulness, by invoking the militia clause?
I believe it's been settled on "weapons in common use".
Indeed.
Soon to come: free speech only for the quill pen.
If they'll sell them to me I promise to use them. Commonly.
So if Russia uses nukes does that make them common? Meaning anyone can use them?... Asking for a friend.
They are $100,000 a pop. Not something your run of the mill redneck is going to be able to afford. We also need government assistance program like section 8 to help people acquire them. Should get most of the Dems on board.
Really glad we're giving Ukraine so much American people's money.
Really, really important for us...
Canadians are getting on board as well

Javelin missiles? Why stop there? If you're going to engage in false equivalency, you might as well include nuclear aircraft carriers and throw in a few ICBMs.
Now try to post sans fallacy.
It's a great day for the Second Amendment , but how do we get Vladimir to read Washington's Farewell Address?
Zelensky Goes Viral
He was probably unvaxxed and shouldn't be allowed to be hospitalized.
/The usual idiots.

Is this the same moron from last episode that was having trouble finding friends?
It would be funny if Reason didn't take itself so seriously.
Caller: *Ahem* Hello is this The Mr. Obvious Show?
Mr. Obvious: Speaking.
Caller: Hey Mr. Obvious. Long time listener. First time caller.
Mr. Obvious: Well, hello thanks for calling.
Caller: Sure.
Mr. Obvious: Well, Caller, what seems to be the problem?
Thanks Reason Magazine! You're a life saver!

"Twitter."
The Atlantic? The Jacobin?
Sounds like Dee.
No joke I've read reason since 98 and they have really declined
Fuck Joe Biden.

>>I've been an avid Reason fan for over a decade, and as a result, I now implicitly trust Reason.
lolnope you guys need more plausible copy interns.
As I linked above, it's like a real-life episode of The Mr. Obvious Show.
wow the whole fucking paragraph is a larf ... I didn't get past the first sentence.
Dear Reason: I like the way you walk, I line the way you talk
"where do the Reason editors get their news?"
Twitter, Buzzfeed, Huffpo, Vox, Reddit and ActBlue the mailing list.
Well now someone needs to listen to two minutes of the podcast and let everyone know who they actually say. I'm going to guess if they answer with actual sites, it won't reflect well on them.
someone needs to listen to two minutes
I think it's hilarious none of us are willing to listen. I just pop down to the comments to see what people bitch about to know what was in the recording above.
Frankly, they should post a transcript. Aren't they supposed to be writers?
Podcasts are a huge pain, when it comes to news. I know they are trendy, but its much easier to scan an article at work than it is to go through the hoopla of covertly setting up a podcast.
Who wants to listen to 75 minutes of podcast to hear the 5 minutes that they’re interested in?
Who is willing to do that? I tried listening for about a year, but just couldn't stand the ignorance, condescension, and complete lack of fundamental libertarian principles. I would hope they solidly answered this question since it's such a softball that it's hard to imagine they didn't write it themselves
But mostly Twitter.
"Who among us has not played "Hava Nagila" on a piano with their genitals on stage and then gone on to lead their country against a foreign invasion?"
Amy Spiro @AmySpiro
Is reason really stanning for shir medical 3xpense uppers? Air medical??? Lol. Holy shit.
Perhaps some sort of mask will be in order if things go nuclear.
And social distancing of at least one meter. And remember that hand sanitizer is not useful against nuclear fallout.

UKRAINE MEME THREAD...
Drop what you got here. Any meme you've got that relates to Russia vs. Ukraine regardless of who it favors.
War memes are hell!
[Memes]
FYI There is an official way to pronounce the capitol of Ukraine that journalists should use. The way that you pronounced it is how russians pronounce it. That being said, the correct pronunciation is Ki -yeev (Ki like in Kim, yeev rhymes with leave). (Київ). Catherine, to say howdy in Ukie, you can say "pryvit" (pronounced pri - feet, where pri is the same sound as pri in privy) or Vitayu (pronounced vee-ta-you). Slava Ukraini!
