The Canadian Truck Protests Aren't Just About Vaccines. They're About Being Heard.
Plus, the editors' takes on the Super Bowl.

Matt Welch, Katherine Mangu-Ward, Peter Suderman, and Nick Gillespie talk about the ongoing protests in Ottawa, the Super Bowl, the next framework for political engagement, and more on this Monday's Reason's Roundtable.
Discussed in this show:
2:15: The reopening of the Ambassador Bridge amidst the ongoing trucker protests.
32:23: Weekly listener question: My vaccination status notwithstanding, I am mandate-hesitant and am reluctant to trust Drs. Fauci and Wallensky most of the time. I would like
to hear the panel's thoughts on the Johns Hopkins meta-analysis report that was released last week, indicating lockdowns had provided a .2% effect on mortality and suggesting they should be avoided to combat this virus. My frustration is that this report was virtually buried by most left-leaning media, and probably oversimplified by the right. Does the panel think this study should have got more play or did it have flaws in their
analysis?
40:32: The current state of political engagement and its future.
45:46: Media recommendations for the week. (And click here for all of the Roundtable's media recommendations, ever.)

Apparently the donor list for the Canadian truckers got hacked and twitter (and google) are allowing it to be disseminated, against their rules
Which would be fair enough if they didn't censor hacked documents that might embarrass the left
You expect leftists to abide by their own rules?
There's a "Leftist Rule Book for Leftists", and a "Leftist Rule Book for Everyone Else". One is a little thinner than the other.
>>"Leftist Rule Book for Leftists"
10 fuck rules, do it.
20 goto 10
I make 85 dollars each hour for working an online job at home. KLA02 I never thought I could do it but my best friend makes 10000 bucks every month working this job and she recommended me to learn more about it. The potential with this is endless.
For more detail …. http://rb.gy/u603ti
That's a privilege of being righteous.
How dare you!
Rules for Radicals answers that question.
"Apparently the donor list for the Canadian truckers got hacked and twitter (and google) are allowing it to be disseminated, against their rules"
Citation?
You didnt have enough information for your own search shrike? Was easy to find.
I mean this took 2 seconds to find. A tweet reported early this morning by many.
https://mobile.twitter.com/ItsDeanBlundell/status/1493103393577091072
This must be why you're so ignorant shrike.
Your cite is a person on Twitter? That was made today?
To be fair, that was also the source for the lead story on today's Roundup.
Fair enough, but something being on there for not even 24 hours before a reaction isn't proof of much.
AHAHHAHAHHHAAHHAHHA
No, Reason's cite was the posting of the link on Twitter by the actual scumbag.
If you'd actually followed the link you could've spared yourself some shame.
You were asking for a citation about this you retarded fuck
"Apparently the donor list for the Canadian truckers got hacked and twitter (and google) are allowing it to be disseminated, against their rules"
The citations shows that. Holy fuck shrike.
"nd twitter (and google) are allowing it to be disseminated, against their rules"
The citations shows that. Holy fuck shrike."
It doesn't show that, it often takes a while for them to enforce their rules.
Cite? It made the rounds on news sites. Many reported it. It does not take time for information like this to be removed. It often happens quickly.
Youre full of failure tonight lol.
I saw the post last night where the guy admitted to having it and was just “waiting for legal” to decide if he should dox it.
Kill yourself.

He just recommends self harm for you. Not that he will harm you. Read at a third grade level do you?
You retard, the cite is for the pathetic claim, the fact he couldn't figure out the comment section is my reply.
You keep claiming people are threatening to kill you shrike. You just need to learn how to read apparently.
Switch to another sock. This one has failed miserably tonight.
Speaking of being heard, Glenn Greenwald has a great video pointing out what many of us have been saying for MONTHS. That the Democrats' consistent threats to corporations calling for them to censor content should be viewed as a violation of free speech.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_uSPwYiVFs&feature=emb_imp_woyt
Shame there isn’t a libertarian outlet to point that out.
Prof volokh did point it out a year or so ago. Just most of the leftists adore corporate fascism.
Next up is climate. The SEC, using Elizabeth Warren as a climate expert, is preparing to crackdown on the entire energy grid of these United States. I assume they want intermittent energy to be rationed according to over/under median income and race.
I’d be a shame if something happened to your heat refrigerator or A/C- signed the Democrats. Also in real news is the NBA memory disappearing MBA player Freedom.
He had an MBA?
Why do you think they want to do away with gas appliances?
When they are all electric and smart and internet connected, the whole grid can be centrally managed, with unnecessary or unapproved power drains being adjusted remotely.
That's really conspiratorial. They might want to get rid of gas because they honestly think it's bad for the climate.
https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/news/2021/12/15/city-council-votes-to-ban-fossil-fuel-use-in-new-buildings
Why do you post from ignorance?
And studies show the US carbon footprint slowing due to the use of natural gas.
https://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/natural-gas/natural-gas-and-the-environment.php
But you argue from ignorance.
"they honestly think it's bad for the climate."
Yeah, no one could honestly disagree with you there Jesse!
So authoritarianism but with good intentions. Lol.
Never change shrike. Wallow and defend ignorance like a good little leftist dummy.
If they really think that, they’re even dumber than you.
I never thought I would miss hippies.
As VM was saying: Shame there isn’t a libertarian outlet to point that out.
Or a law firm willing to represent the constitution
I can't find his video about when Trump kept saying he was going to revoke broadcaster's licenses, calling media outlets the enemies of the people, telling ESPN to fire people, etc? Was this censored for fear of the Democrats as well?
If you didn't bookmark so many child porn sites you wouldn't lose track of your propaganda shrike.
Surely you can provide me with this source, because surely it exists!
Surely!
Glenn is, if anything, a remarkably consistent and principled and totally not grifting partisan extremists like yourself.
Roar sea lion roar!
Got the comment button to work the first time here, good job Mr. Bickle!
Which Glenn? Guessing beck since you and other leftists always bring him and rush up. Nobody else here mentions them.
Your rich fantasy life is noted!
Now you're just mumbling nonsense.
And yet he never did that AND the media actually held him accountable for even suggesting that they might be the enemy of the people.*
*which they are, by any objective measure.
The protests are also about travel restrictions, forced business closures, testing requirements, and pretty much all of the illegal and rights violating things governments have been doing to their citizens.
I'd say you should write for Reason, but you seem a little too libertarian for their taste these days.
Travel restrictions only apply to citizens.
Oh, I see where you are going with that.
I think they are a bit more consistent about that in Canada.
It really is an actual grass roots, personal freedom oriented protest. No coincidence corporate media and the left are going batshit over it. They like their protests funded by a DNC pac, in lock step with the media narrative, and with free pallets of bricks/flammable material.
A protest where shit ISNT getting destroyed, and wasnt funded by billionaires is completely foreign to them. And it scares the shit out of them
Restrictions on travel, in-person business, etc., are common sense long standing responses to something like a transmittable disease. That kind of thing passes Mills Harm Principle.
Lock yourself in a sealed room. We will let you know when its safe to come out.
That's as stupid as saying anyone advocating for speed limits should just stay off the roads.
Do they set speed limits to 10 mph to avoid all death? Do they force you to install regulators to limit your speed to 10 mph?
Yeah, that's not comparable but nice try!
How is it not similar?
Show me how it is my mon-sentence friend!

I agree. Your metaphor was idiotic. That's why I pointed it out to you. Work through it shrike.
Except of course a meta analysis of all the various restrictions has shown that they had little to no effect. Doing something to contain a virus that, you know, doesn't work, is not justified by any principle.
But please display your scientific illiteracy and crypto-religious sciencism some more, QA.
Lol, I love the 'a meta analysis....' You obviously don't know what you're talking about. '*A* meta analysis!' Well, shit, that's always checkmate in smart people world, right? Lol.
But, more to the point, "Doing something to contain a virus that, you know, doesn't work, is not justified by any principle. " Actually, when dealing with a novel threat, relying on the majority of experts in the field tending towards caution is the reasonable thing to do.
“Novel”.
LOL
She is kinda just telling stories.
After two years hasn't the novelty worn off?
Except it's illegal and unconstitutional to quarantine healthy people and to shut down businesses and freedom of movement.
When you're dealing with a disease that's often asymptomatic?
You mean how the cdc said early on asymptomatic spread was negligible?
You are failing hard tonight shrike.
How deadly is it if you can be asymptomatic?
Why was this not done in 2009-2010 or 1968-1970?
Fuck off, slaver.
Justin just invoked the Emergencies Act for first time ever in Canadian history giving him sweeping authoritarian powers.
First it's a handful of fringe protesters and now they're moving to Defcon 5.
Defcon 1
Severity is inverse on that system
This means all Canadians freedoms, including mine are now curtailed by Zoolander's whims.
I should have put the Reich Enabling Act on my 2022 Bingo card.
You fuckers down South are up next for this, I'm sure.
To the applause of Jeff Mike brandy and sarc.
Queen will be dancing in the streets, till the Gestapo shoot her in the head for breaking curfew.
Wow. That doesn't seem good.
It's the opposite of good. It's like if Biden invoked the War Powers Act indefinitely to quash a new spate of Tea Party protests.
It literally hands him the powers of a dictator.
You know who else claimed emergency powers to quash internal dissent?
Woodrow Wilson
FDR?
Yes.
Those two literally inspired European progressivism (fascism)
Trudeau's Cuban Pa?
Let's get this straight. Prime Minister Blackface is authorizing a higher level of arbitrary government authoritarianism to crack down on citizens protesting the initial phase of arbitrary government authoritarianism.
I guess that is consistent. What's next?
Well he's using your Jan6 Reichstag Fire as his excuse because apparently Canadian truckers are the exact same thing, and this is his Enabling Act, so I don't know... the Night of the Long Knives?
They also blocked the road to keep trucks from blocking the road.
This Covid fucking shit will be NOTHING compared to climate crackdowns
COVID was the tutorial level for the coming "climate justice".
Guarantee it.
They just wanted to be heard? I guess that explains all the honking.
Your honking too?
It's not my honking.
You prefer looting and arson.
No, I don't. Sorry everyone who thinks you're a fool doesn't fit into your caricature infested 'mind.'
Fuck off, fascist. I can't find the words to express how much I hate you and your goosestepping ilk right now.
Yeah, I imagine you often can't find words. ARRGH! is a big part of your political philosophy!
That's right Shrike. I'm the one who runs away after loosing arguments... oh wait.
You're involved in some pathetic 'comment community' in fight. I'm not him, I'm just a guy who notices your idiocy. Try again.
Lol. We know it's yourl shrike. I dont know why you think everyone is as stupid as you.
Fuck off, you're not tricking anyone.
You’re just a bootlicking fascist. Kind of run of the mill and not very bright, to be honest.
You're also a massive tool and fool. Goosestepping? Do you really have that much of a lack of power to make important distinctions? Or are you that much insensitive to the actual Holocaust? Or do you think this makes you more important and heroic (I'm standing up to the Nazis!!!)? This is pathetic. Even if Canada's restrictions are a bad thing this is nutjob level hyperbole, it's not even *close* to what you're invoking. In a healthy discussion community people would remind you of that, but here we are at Reason...
This is an enabling act, you stupid fuck. For a nonviolent protest you guys were pretending was just a "fringe minority".
Go look it up on Wikipedia or something before pretending your Nazi ass knows what it's about.
OK, so when in a month nothing comparable to the Nazis happens from this will you go away?
Of course he won't, he's here now screaming about Nazis.
Nutters.
Unbelievable that you're trying to pretend a literal suspension of freedoms and human rights reserved for wartime, is hunkydory.
Go fuck yourself, Goebbels.
“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”
― Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn , The Gulag Archipelago
Oh. Shrike is one of the liberals who thinks Germany went from pure democracy to gas chambers in one day. That there wasn't a half decade of erosion of liberties.
"The Canadian Truck Protests Aren't Just About Vaccines. They're About Being Heard."
It's about power and control, and Justin Trudeau just turned the heat up--he's invoking emergency powers to clear the protesters out.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-premiers-cabinet-1.6350734
The NDP, Trudeau's partner in his minority Liberal coalition, has apparently said they'll support giving Trudeau emergency powers, and the only comment I see from the Conservatives is that they support peaceful protests but not blockades. With the blockades now broken, I'm not sure what that means. Trudeau doesn't need emergency powers to unblock the bridges to the U.S. They're already open. The emergency powers are to go after the peaceful protesters. That's all they can be.
The interesting thing is that this pandemic does have an expiration date. The daily averages in the U.S. are close to where they were before Christmas. Omicron is fading, and it may be over in a couple of weeks. Progressives states in the U.S. are even dropping their mandates. Trudeau may find himself beating a dead horse of a pandemic weeks from now, and the optics on that are terrible. What if the pandemic disappears before his mandates? What if they only thing stopping him from backing down is his ego?
Canadians aren't gonna dig that at all.
Mark my words, these emergency powers are going to be permanent. Canada is no longer a democracy as of today.
Did you read that Shrikkke, Queen Anathema, Molly or whatever the fuck the sock that your posting under is? Have a good fap because the authoritarian fascism you always wanted is now on America's doorstep.
I was looking forward to you telling me that it wasn't that big of a deal!
: (
I will fap my ass to that mate! Canada! Oh Canada! When fascism comes to America it'll be riding a moose drunk on syrup!
Fascism has been in America for almost 100 years you retarded fuck.
Hey the progressives are totally different. For example progressive starts with a P and Facist starts with an f. Ideology wise they are the same though
More wishful predictions from the guy who regularly confuses he and his buddies for a majority, even though they can't win an election.
Never before in history has there ever been a political movement based on intentionally spreading a virus. Devils will be extra cruel to them in hell.
(facepalm)
My god the stupidity. It's astounding to see it displayed so brazenly.
You're one hell of an evil piece of shit, you lying fascist fuck.
I am lying? They don't want to spread the virus? Or they will spend eternity being buggered by devils? Both are true.
Never before in history has there ever been a political movement based on intentionally spreading a virus.
This part, Nazi. Here's where you're lying.
The hilarious part is chicken pox parties existed for decades.
Not wanting to spread a virus makes me a Nazi? I don't recall public health being their defining characteristic.
Stealing peoples freedom of choice, bodily autonomy and human rights is what makes you a Nazi, you fascist fuck.
No one is stealing anyone's freedom of choice or anything else. They are free not to get vaccinated, their employers are free not to keep employing them, and the rest of us are free to call them out for the selfish assholes that they are.
Your free to tell us where the jews are hiding or your free to go the the concentration camp
How did you get unmuted [fixed]?
But thanks for reminding me of what a psycho bitch you are and why I muted you in the first place.
and there still isn't.
Well fuck me sideways.
It seems Molly here took the challenge shrike threw down over the weekend for dumbest motherfucker to post here. I really thought he had sewn up that debate, but bravo ma’am.
Sinve when did normal life spread viruses?
Since always. Unfortunately for these idiots, the "new normal" also spreads viruses including the one they are so scared of.
That's such a stupid comment.

Canadian government officials says under the Emergency Act any truck involved in the protest will have its owner’s corporate bank accounts frozen without a court order.
Canada is Nazi Germany now.
Basically, yeah.
We're fucked.

Canadian friends, you do realize that Trudeau just authorized your bank account to be frozen based on your posts on social media, right?
If you supported the #FreedomConvoy2022 or any protest iteration on social media, you are a target for asset forfeiture. You see that right?
If you see me hanging around the border begging for food, toss me a burrito or something, Nardz.
Unfortunately I'm a bit too far south.
If you can make it down I'll help smuggle you to a freer country like Cuba though.
Lifting all mandates would make them go away. The media keeps trying to pretend otherwise.
The Canadian truckers are so much better than BLM protestors. They look like real working people, and they’re not screaming for communism . They actually want an open, functioning economy, whereas BLM wanted us to embrace the worst economic system ever, as if COVID was just a warm up.
Remember forever: when normal people protested, the left sneered in casual dismissal.
November will not go well for those people.
November is being fortified.

If a tactical shift is needed at this moment, a bank run is the nuclear option that balances Trudeau's Emergency Act. As a bank run progresses, it generates its own momentum: as more people withdraw cash, the likelihood of default increases, triggering further withdrawals.
The reason this may actually be needed is that with the Emergency Act, Terrorism laws related to finance have been expanded. Everything from Crowd funding, to crypto, to your individual bank account is now up for seizure at any moment. Liquidity may be the only option for many.
Today it may be GiveSendGo, tomorrow it could be the organizers, the day after it could be YOU. Your checking and savings account are a target. Your retirement portfolio, and property assets are all now on the table if you're a Canadian with the wrong opinions.
It isn't really a leap at all with the Emergencies Act. If you're a Candian think about it: Have you spoken ill of Trudeau online? Think about your Facebook or Twitter history. Retweeted a post that supported the Truckers? Sent $10 to the Convoy? Refused to get a vaccine?
These are all things that can now get Terrorism charges filed against you and have your assets seized. This is the current reality on the ground.
The nuclear option turns everything into liquidity and fights back.
Maybe this is needed, maybe it is not. But since the government has placed everything on the table, perhaps the people should as well.
Be Kind To Your Neighbors.
Unlikely to happen in the modern era. Most people are just not used to using cash as a main means of purchase anymore.
Dr Vinay Prasad on Myocarditis, masks, vaccines etc.
Quick hits:
"Early in the pandemic I saw a figure from the CDC which said the risk of death, comparing a child of 8 years old to an 88 year old. In biomedicine I'm used to seeing 10 fold differences in risk, even rarely 100 fold differences in risk, this was 8,700 times differences in risk."
Link.
You just want to spread a virus!!!!1!1!1!!
Tomorrow is going to be a very interesting day in Ottawa. Either there's a new flood of protestors streaming into the city, or Canadians accept the boot and the trucks start getting towed.
Blood or slavery.
That's it for their choices.
Same as it ever was.
Ultimately, sure.
But now, imminently.
I'd be careful of trying to "business as usual" this shit away right now, though denial is certainly the more comfortable path... for a time.
Huh. Canada still has a civil liberties union that supports actual civil liberties. Weird.

This is the REAL danger of the administrative statev
Arresting you requires actual police officers to go out and physically do the act of arresting you.
The bureaucratic state can freeze your bank account, revoke your license, and shut down your life with the push of a button
We need to understand the role real world friction plays in limiting government power.
As more of society moves online, it becomes easier and easier to exercise power by simply locking people out of the online spaces where life occurs, and to sieze and steal their digital assets
Yep, and there isn't really an effective means of stopping this type of oppression without living your entire life off the grid. Which to be blunt is possible, but exhausting.
What oppression? Not being able to park on the bridge after the parade is over?
Ohhh, the humanity!!
Yeah, we all want to be heard. Keep it legal and win elections
Nazi nut right here folks.
When psychopaths meet politics.
Not just Trudeau's
More of shrike's classical liberalism supporting government shutting down speech and steeling funds.
"I have no response other than my impotent anger!"
You're not going to kill anyone you psychotic coward. And if you were it would just show you are what I said. In any healthy, sane group of people you'd be shunned and denounced, but here we are on 'Reason.'
You're a psychopath, but likely a very, very impotent ignorable one. Like most of them.
I prefer my funds steeled, Jesse.
You have to love that Reason has become a place where a person can talk casually about literally killing those he disagrees with and a second nut job can show up and take their for free speech reasons.
Just wait until there's a crypto-USD and a crypto-CDN.
"Hmmm.... it's not going through. It says your wallet is frozen."
"They'll?" I thought you were going to do that, tough lady.
You can read? You have surprised me today, madam!
Nazi nut right here folks.
Yes, that's exactly what you are, Shrike, you sockpuppeting fascist fuck.
As a Canadian I sure wish I could spend five minutes alone with your Nazi simping ass.
See how a 'libertarian' so casually and frequently invokes murder? Sick people are infecting your comment boards folks. Do what this what you will, I guess...
I've not called for anyone to be hanged from lamposts (that's straight from the Turner Diaries btw). You can't see that distinction as important. Wow.
That's funny, your mom usually asks for hours!
You're really mean for a Canadian. You could be the worst person in Canada?
Pathetic, one of us has talked about hanging people from lamposts and it ain't me. Fuck you psycho incel.
You're just backpedaling trying to defend your crazy-brave talk. It's not the latter at all, it's a pyscho coward trying to impress the pyscho-curious here.
I wouldn't know you Nazi fuck. I haven't read the Turner Diaries. Have you?
I do know however, that Mussolini and many other Italian Fascists were hung from lampposts.
Strange how you didn't know that and went straight to the Turner Diaries.
Have you thought about going to Stomfront instead Shrike? You should take Misek with you.
He has been asking for you to kill yourself dummy.
Want all the tweets from the left asking to kill the convoy protestors?
He didn’t say a damn thing about HIM hanging anyone from a light post you stupid cunt.
You know the rest of us can read his posts right?
Thanks Goebbels!
Yes, dude, you're defending calling for people to be hanged, you're the good guy here. So foreign from Stormfront!
Why would I represent 'all the tweets from the left' to 'balance' his actual tweets tonight?
Are you his sock? Lover? Fool?
No. You constantly defend the left shrike. You are your standard paid OSF idiot who pushes for leftist ideals through authoritarianism.
^^Mussolini Derangement Syndrome ^^
At least I'm not a goosestepping Stormfag pretending suspension of Charter rights is super-duper like you.
My country just declared martial law because Trudeau is assmad about the wrong sort of protesters, but somehow you think I should be nice to you two clowns simping for it.
Go fuck yourself.
I know reading comprehension isn’t really your thing, but he wasn’t threatening you that he would murder you. He was explaining to you that the real crazy people, the ones you’re most definitely going to piss off in real life, probably will.
^^
