Surf Without Surveillance: Tor's Karen Reilly
"People are under the impression that the Internet is sort of anonymous by default," says Karen Reilly, development director of the Tor Project. "They don't know how many digital trails they're leaving behind."
As the latest NSA scandal has alerted the public to the threat of widespread government surveillance, Reilly shows us how to restore our privacy in the digital world. Reason TV editor Nick Gillespie spoke with Riley about Tor, a set of software encryption tools that empowers people to use email and surf the web anonymously.
"There's a lot of everyday reasons why people would use Tor," Reilly says. "You don't necessarily have to be somebody who's under a particular threat to want privacy." Among the half million people who use Tor include victims of violence, people with medical conditions, people who don't trust their Internet service provider, and those who object to government surveillance on principle.

This is valuable information. Well articulated, clearly and concisely presented. Overall, an excellent and informative video piece. Thank you once again, ReasonTV !
So, I can finally click on the Article and not get a 404 Not Found error. I wasn't quite sure that an article entitled "Surf Without Surveillance" that leads to a 404 Not Found error was an actual error or cosmic irony.
I surf without underwear.

Electric Eye - Judas Priest
Up here in space
I'm looking down on you.
My lasers trace
Everything you do.
You think you've private lives
Think nothing of the kind.
There is no true escape
I'm watching all the time.
I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam.
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean.
I'm elected electric spy
I'm protected electric eye.
Always in focus
You can't feel my stare.
I zoom into you
You don't know I'm there.
I take a pride in probing all your secret moves
My tearless retina takes pictures that can prove.
I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam.
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean.
I'm elected electric spy
I'm protected electric eye.
Electric eye, in the sky
Feel my stare, always there
There's nothing you can do about it.
Develop and expose
I feed upon your every thought
And so my power grows.
I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam.
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean.
I'm elected electric spy
I'm protected electric eye.
I'm elected electric spy
I'm elected. Protected. Detective. Electric eye.
You'd think by now he would have already provided this evidence to federal investigators, correct? I actually know the guys at the US Attorney's Office who prosecute these crimes and they would have made a deal in a second if these claims were true. Honestly, does anyone believe that if Ebay actually had a secret "black budget" that was used to defraud investors that the lowly affiliate managers would know about it? Hogan claims that all these folks were fired, so you think by now someone hogan shoes sale would have gone public, if only to collect the millions of dollars that they are entitled to by law as a corporate whistleblower. Heck, why didn't Hogan go public already and collect that money, it could be used for his defense.Again, I want to point out that Hogan is not a stupid, ignorant guy who doesn't know anything about technology, business or contracts. For those who have defended Mr. Hogan, I can appreciate your concern.
Unfortunately monitoring of communications between your computer (ISP) to the entrance node of TOR and between the exit node from TOR to the destination is quite feasible. There is some thought that a significant proportion of the exit nodes may be government run shills. TOR is a good start. We really need more work on this especially on the teaching end.
I really can't bring myself to trust the TOR network. I played with it and at one time ran a TOR router for a while. I think that there are to few TOR routers in operation for it to be considered secure and with the police in this country more than willing to kick in doors I didn't want any illegal traffic entering the Internet from my residence.
