Prison for Smokers, Permits for Strippers! (Nanny of the Month, Jan '13)
Our nation's nannies, scolds, and buttinskies started 2013 with a renewed hunger to mind other people's business.
One Florida city has banned dog tethering (even on your own property!) and a Texas State Rep. Bill Zedler (R-Arlington) wants to license strippers in order to dissuade women from going into that line of work (hey, at least the guy admits that the purpose of occupational licensing is to make it harder for people to do their jobs).
But 2013's first nod goes to the northwest nag whose new bill, if passed, would expand the drug war by categorizing cigarettes as a Schedule III controlled substance (along with LSD). You'd need a doctor's prescription to get your mitts on tobacco products (including cigars), and if you disobey, you could be looking at a fine of $6,250, up to a year in prison, or both!
For reminding us of how far we've come since restaurant smoking bans, the January 2013 Nanny of the Month goes to Oregon Rep. Mitch Greenlick (D-Portland)!

Finally: it isn't second hand smoke which kills innocent children, but the enjoyment of nicotine which is to be suppressed. I guess e-cigarettes are the tool of the Devil as well.
Sweet I've been looking to put some venture capitol to use.
Unemployment claims "unexpectedly" jump sharply from last week. HuffPo, which featured last Thursday's numbers on the top of its front page most of the day, has not mentioned this week's. CNN does not have the story on its front page. MSN does not have the story on its front page. They appear to have gone all-in on deepthroating Obama.
LSD is actually Schedule I. Lysergic acid is schedule III as a precursor to LSD.
Minor nitpick.
Here in Florida they are talking up banning smoking on the beach. One of the morning DJ teams was actually talking about how they are all for personal freedom, but not when someone's choice can kill you. Yup, they actually pulled out the "second hand smoke is deadly" scare tactic for smoking on the beach!
Now don't get me wrong. I'd be annoyed if you were firing up a Swisher Sweet upwind of me on the beach. But to evolve the claims of second hand smoke from airplane cabins to restaurants to office buildings and now to windy beaches? Wow.
Ya good luck with that ban on the west coast of Florida.
I'd like to see you do this with a feed for bloggers as "Nanny-Statist of the Month," with a pic and link to the supporting article.
Mitch the "Bitch" Greenlick. And now you know how he got his name.
And if he gets this idiocy passed, he will then be shocked, SHOCKED! when a substantial black market springs into existence.
Twit.
Disappointed and rejected, Costume Halloween life had come full circle.Pampering the girl's if you purchase her a hot lingerie reward can make her think that a queen.Shu, I ll bet. Purchasing the best swimsuit for your body for virtually any bch companion can be tedious in Sexy underwear to time-consuming and es .Normally she would have ragged him endlessly about the errors.Other traps had been set by companies or governments that hoped to survive the passage of time. Yeah, a bunch of us got dog tethering prohibited in the Wake County/Raleigh, NC, area, too... for humane reasons and driven largely by dog rescue groups.
Too many dogs tethered alone develop traits that make them unsuitable as pets, not to mention physical harm they suffer, too.
Working dogs on farms are rarely tethered, but family pets are "a different breed" and don't like or deserve that kind of treatment. It's not the owner's freedom to choose at stake, it's the cruelty to the "staked" dogs!
Only Schedule III? If you applied the standard rules for determining what Schedule a drug belongs on to smoking tobacco, it would be Schedule I, not III. Chewing tobacco would be Schedule II and things like e-cigarettes would be Schedule III.
