Brickbat: Aid and Comfort

GavelGinasanders / DreamstimeA South Korean court has fined Park Yu-ha, a professor at Sejong University, $8,900 for defaming comfort women, those women who worked at Japanese military brothels during World War II. In her book The Comfort Women of the Empire, Park suggested that some of the women may have willingly prostituted themselves and were not forced into sexual slavery and that some may have even formed emotional bonds with Japanese soldiers.

    All I want to know is if you get 72 virgins if you need to carry out the other Muslim past-time besides furniture moving?

    "In other news, recent studies suggest that the Second World War may have ended as many as 72 years ago, calling into question the consensus in the South Korean scientific community that this is actually a 'thing' that people should be thinking about instead of the Marxist-Leninist hairball coughed up on their northern doorstep."

    It's good to occasionally remind people of atrocities committed in the past. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it, you know.

  • Telcontar the Wanderer||

    And those who NEVER forget it are doomed to spend the following centuries critiquing their current indispensable allies for crimes their grandfathers committed and violating their own citizens' fundamental rights in an attempt to satisfy their unslakable thirst for a national revenge they will never receive.

    Suggesting women have agency weakens them. There is power in victimhood.

    I've been to Europe and Asia, and for the most part the people in Europe have moved on. Older Europeans might hate the Germans to a degree, but most people born after 1960 don't give a shit. Asia will hate the Japanese for probably another 250 years.

    The Chinese hate those fucking Mongolians for their hordes.

    "Some" may have. The vast majority didn't. Why is this an issue? Since the war, there have also been instances of North Korea kidnapping Japanese women, although not for the same purpose.

  • Griffin3||

    How could you show standing to sue without proving you were part of the "some women" ?

    Park suggested that some of the women may have willingly prostituted themselves

    In the sense that turning over your wallet in response to "your money or your life" is done voluntarily.
