Poetry Tuesday!: "Loveliest of Trees" by A.E. Housman

"Loveliest of trees, the cherry now / Is hung with bloom along the bough, / And stands about the woodland ride / Wearing white for Eastertide...."

Here's "Loveliest of Trees" (1896) by A.E. Housman (1859-1936). (This is on my YouTube channel, which mostly consists of my Sasha Reads playlist, plus a smattering of law-related songs.) I recorded a previous Housman poem, "When I Was One-and-Twenty", some months ago—you can see that here.

Loveliest of trees, the cherry now
Is hung with bloom along the bough,
And stands about the woodland ride
Wearing white for Eastertide.

Now, of my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves me fifty more.

And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.
