Target Zero

Black Lives Matter's agenda

|

Over the summer, activists affiliated with Black Lives Matter, a movement organized around the disproportionate use of deadly police force against blacks, launched "Campaign Zero," a list of policy measures for the local, state, and federal levels, aimed at reducing such violence and reforming practices like asset forfeiture and aggressive petty law enforcement.

The initiative includes 10 proposals: increasing community oversight, limiting the use of force, independent investigations and prosecutions, community representation, body cameras, training, ending for-profit policing, demilitarization, and fair police union contracts. The campaign, which can be found at JoinCampaignZero.org, is paying attention to the 2016 presidential race as well—the website lists the policy positions, where applicable, of candidates on both sides of the political aisle.
