Video: Chess Champion Garry Kasparov Slams Putin
"I think we've forgotten many important lessons of the Cold war," says former World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov. Especially when it comes to dealing with Russian leader Vladimir Putin: "You cannot project weakness….Putin's game is [not chess but] poker. And he knows how to bluff."
Kasparov sat down recently with Reason's Nick Gillespie on the anniversary of the Berlin's Wall's Collapse and of Kasparov's world championship. Kasparov, now a human rights activist, discussed communism, lessons from the Cold War, and the rise of Vladimir Putin as a new threat to freedom and peace.
