The Detroit Police Department fired then-Sgt. LaNesha Jones after she struck another woman with a glass and ground the shards into her head during an off-duty argument in 2007. Jones later pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and was sentenced to one year probation. Jones was later hired by the Highland Park, Michigan, police department and was promoted to deputy chief last year. City officials say they did not know about her criminal history but defended her hiring and promotion. "She's doing a great job," said Mayor Hubert Yopp.
