Officials in California Town To Check For Dog Licenses

Some residents not happy about dogs roaming around

Coming soon to an Eastvale neighborhood near you: a dog license official checking to see if your pooch is street legal.

Eastvale contracted for a part-time license inspector in its 2013-14 agreement with Riverside County for animal control service. The total contract is $260,912 for the current fiscal year.

Inspectors began canvassing neighborhoods – going door to door checking for licenses – in August and as of Oct. 24, had written 225 "fix it" citations.

Owners are given 20 days to get their animals vaccinated against rabies, licensed, micro chipped and, if needed, spayed or neutered. The ticket is then cleared.

The city chose to use a license inspector after receiving a number of complaints about dogs roaming loose, Eastvale spokeswoman Michele Nissen said.
