Marco Rubio Says He's Revoked 300 Student Visas Over Campus Activism
"We're looking every day for these lunatics that are tearing things up," Rubio said in a Thursday press conference.

Over the past several weeks, a handful of student visa holders and other legal residents have faced deportation for nebulous allegations that they supported terrorism—often being detained and taken away by immigration officials with seemingly no due process, or even an allegation of criminal wrongdoing. Shockingly, the number of affected individuals has reached into the hundreds. On Thursday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed that he has personally intervened to cancel the visas of around 300 students.
"It might be more than 300 at this point. We do it every day. Every time I find one of these lunatics, I take away their visa." Rubio said during a Thursday press conference. "At some point, I hope we run out because we've gotten rid of all of them, but, we're looking every day for these lunatics that are tearing things up."
"We gave you a visa to come and study and get a degree, not become a social activist that tears up our university campuses. And if we've given you a visa and you decide to do that, we're going to take it away," Rubio added. "We don't want it in our country. Go back and do it in your country. But you're not going to do it in our country."
Rubio's move to personally revoke the visas of legal residents is part of a broader plan to "catch and revoke" the legal statuses of student activists and other individuals who engage in pro-Palestine or otherwise vaguely "pro-terrorism" speech. The effort involves "AI-assisted reviews of tens of thousands of student visa holders' social media accounts," according to Axios.
Earlier this month, immigration officials seized Mahmoud Khalil, a green card holder and the leader of student protests at Columbia University. Khalil was taken to Louisiana and is currently legally challenging the Trump administration's attempt to deport him. However, the Trump administration hasn't just gone after protest leaders. So far, students who merely attended protests or co-authored relatively milquetoast pro-Palestine op-eds—as in the case of Tufts University graduate student Rumeysa Ozturk—have been targeted by immigration officials.
"Credible accusations against Israel include accounts of deliberate starvation and indiscriminate slaughter of Palestinian civilians and plausible genocide," reads the most strongly worded portion of the op-ed Ozturk co-wrote. The op-ed also later calls on the "University to end its complicity with Israel insofar as it is oppressing the Palestinian people and denying their right to self-determination." While the op-ed condemns Israel's war in Gaza decisively, no one in good faith could argue it expresses support for Hamas (though even if it did, it would still undoubtedly be First Amendment-protected speech.) On Thursday, Rubio did not directly state why Ozturk was detained when asked. Instead, he made general comments about student protestors.
For an administration that has vowed to "restore freedom of speech," so quickly moving to remove legal residents for disfavored political speech is bitterly ironic—if not exactly surprising.

Lil' Taco wants Donnie's job. And in 2027 it could happen.
He’ll have to wait till after Trumps third term.
You were banned for posting a link to child porn.
"Lil' Taco"
Just can't stop being racist, can you, Kleagle Buttplug?
That’s probably how the freak refers to kids.
Shrike likes tykes
You won the internet today.
Lil’ taco? I like that. Lil’ taco in his lil’ boots!
Yeah, that's just about your intelligence level; 5th grade.
Wholly mackerel! Someone at Reason finally admitted it's not about free speech.
Well, sorta. Looks like Emma Camp drew the short straw.
I don't like the minimal due process, but too many people at Reason have been ducking the issue of what due process means in a legal sense, what it means to revoke a visa, and how deeply involved this character has been in trespassing, blocking access to class rooms, and generally acting like a low grade terrorist. This is at least a baby step in addressing the issue.
Even with "due process", there's an abjectly retarded conflation between "A professor can't get a room for a lecture." or "A student organization can't get a venue to host a speaker to a private/voluntary audience." and "Retarded dissidents aren't allowed to pay Tom Green or Sacha Baron Cohen to pee on the dean's desk and slap unwitting females in the face with dildos on the largest stage the University has to offer for free to the public at large."
The oxymoronic sort of thing where only a truly insane Free Speech absolutist... or an overtly dishonest subversive... would insist that the Heckler's Veto is the superior free speech/association act relative to studying and showing up for classes and that the 1A is really meant to defend disruptive speech over peaceable assembly.
What we do know is the law here.
(B) Terrorist activities
(i) In general
Any alien who-
(I) has engaged in a terrorist activity;
(II) a consular officer, the Attorney General, or the Secretary of Homeland Security knows, or has reasonable ground to believe, is engaged in or is likely to engage after entry in any terrorist activity (as defined in clause (iv));
(III) has, under circumstances indicating an intention to cause death or serious bodily harm, incited terrorist activity;
(IV) is a representative (as defined in clause (v)) of-
(aa) a terrorist organization (as defined in clause (vi)); or
(bb) a political, social, or other group that endorses or espouses terrorist activity;
(V) is a member of a terrorist organization described in subclause (I) or (II) of clause (vi);
(VI) is a member of a terrorist organization described in clause (vi)(III), unless the alien can demonstrate by clear and convincing evidence that the alien did not know, and should not reasonably have known, that the organization was a terrorist organization;
(VII) endorses or espouses terrorist activity or persuades others to endorse or espouse terrorist activity or support a terrorist organization;
(VIII) has received military-type training (as defined in section 2339D(c)(1) of title 18) from or on behalf of any organization that, at the time the training was received, was a terrorist organization (as defined in clause (vi)); or
(IX) is the spouse or child of an alien who is inadmissible under this subparagraph, if the activity causing the alien to be found inadmissible occurred within the last 5 years,
is inadmissible. An alien who is an officer, official, representative, or spokesman of the Palestine Liberation Organization is considered, for purposes of this chapter, to be engaged in a terrorist activity.
And Rubio is as excited about it as my chihuahua when she runs into the house with a turd in her mouth she recently found.
...but enough about Palestine...
Is that how you rationalize the murder of a whole people? Spit out that genocidal zionist ball sac , creep. We’ll soon be coming for you and your ilk with arrest warrants. Live it up while you can.
"...genocidal..."
Again, enough about "Palestine"
"Is that how you rationalize the murder of a whole people?..."
Were you born this stupid, or did it take you long years of drooling to get there?
Fuck off and die, antisemite shit.
Seeing how I’m about the only one here who cuts you any slack on your glue bag addiction, I would think you would show me a little more respect. Now pass that motherfucker over here Jew hater.
So you were born brain-dead.
He got rid of your illegals. More to come
Seethe harder. You lost.
Told you guys that this one was Shrike, too.
Is it the casual racism?
If genocide and the mass killings and destruction of a people is “casual racism” than I’m your most feared racist, mother fucker!
Fuck off and die, shitbag.
Yes, we know you want to murder all the Jews. Or maybe keep the children around for sexual abuse.
You’re democrat filth.
So, not your therapist, but more of an analyst too, or, as it says on the card, analrapist.
The only difference between the therapist and the rapist is a single space.
Spit that genocidal zionist ball sac out of your mouth, Jerry, like, before it gets slapped out!
No, that’s more in line with your Israeli legal system. You know, where the REAL terrorists reside, pig fucker.
Wow, you slipped from your pretend "erudite" shtick really quickly.
For what it's worth, I can easily believe you're a therapist. I think very little of psychologists for what it is worth.
Ya, I sorta went overboard calling you a pig fucker. I’m sorry pig fucker.
I thought about it a little more, Mr. Fucker. I also apologize to Mrs. Pig Fucker and your little Pig Fucker kids. I should never have brought it to anyone’s own family attention that Mister Pig Fucker supported the mass murder and extermination of thousands upon thousands of Palestinian civilians because a couple hundred of their (Palestinian) brethren flipped out and went on a horrendous murdering rampage after enduring decades worth of genocidal rage against their people by Zionist Israelis who also now look forward to killing more. I’m sincerely sorry Mr. Pig Fucker.
That's what passes for thinking to this steaming pile of shit.
Hey fag, you spin a lot of democrat bullshit. Of course everything you said is retarded drivel. Which is logical, as you are a worthless retard.
And two puppies?
Not puppies. Couple of bad ass bitches!
Of course the best I can hope from them is that they would lick you to death.
We can hope they might educate you a bit; you seem to lack the intelligence of the average dog, asshole.
I dangle a bag of glue and a pair of genocidal zionist ball sacs before you and you start drooling. What’s up with that?
You have a fixation on glue-bags; seek therapy, ass-wipe.
Whether a foreigner has the right to speak here and whether they are welcome to stay here are two separate issues. Whether their unacceptable behavior is "criminal" or not is irrelevant.
Vernon, spoken like a true genocidal zionist who is willing to wipe his keister with the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Principles under which this nation was founded.
Are you trying to one up shrike for most retarded or something?
Stop playing with your mother’s pee-pee, Jesse.
The only principle Trump and his defenders have is loyalty to Trump.
Poor sarcbot.
Does sarc have a new bestie?
No, it's just the pedo trying out a new sock.
But he somehow lost the password to his original account.
Sarc is just here for honest conversation. Ask him.
Don’t forget, they’re quite smitten by genocidal zionists as well!
And Hitler's your hero!
Actually I despise him even more for teaching Zionists how to rationalize the murder of thousands upon thousands of civilians.
Of course one must nonetheless give credit to the Zionists for coming up with the use of two thousand pounders instead of gas with the primary costs being footed by the American people.
So do you have an alter to him in the bedroom where you can beat off?
So you’re just mad Hitler wasn’t harder on the Jews, got it.
Grey box for you. 'Bye.
Try not to get yourself classified as a terrorist buttercup. Bye, bye.
He's safe. And you're just an idiot.
An idiought? Awww, that was clever. Take another pull from Sevo’s glue bag, genius.
He was already a grey box for me for some reason.
Clicking "Show username", I can't help but identify him as "You're the rapist" with a Sean Connery accent in my head.
Same. I've had it with this idiot. I don't keep track of the socks around here but this clown is stinking up the place.
Fucking useless jackass. Bluecry is down the hall and to the left.
So you have knowledge of MK ultra yet you’re so susceptible to this fascist tyrannical Zionist bullshit?
Good to see Reason is consistent in it's support of criminals, terrorists and those that enable them.
The mark of a civilization is how they treat the most disfavored groups.
Criminals should be disfavored you retarded fuck.
Yeah, so you start classifying those disfavored groups as “terrorists” right maggot?
It’s funny, you leftists talk big, but are always weak pussies when shit gets real.
And you’re the weakest pussy of all.
How about those Jan 6 protesters? They sure got treated super good.
Knock that shit off.
Where did I ever indicate that I supported what happened to the January 6 folks? Ya pig fucker.
Like Catholics, J6ers, Jews at any university and PTA parents at school board meetings, right Tony?
Hahahhshahahaha
What did the activism include? Vandalism? Threats? Demands to end western civilization and the US? Religious harassment?
Visas come attached with conditions. Not sure why reason can't figure this out.
Just like you can't work on a visitors visa.
There are conditions during application they agree to.
You know the answer, they're dishonest leftists pushing for open borders in their consequence-free society.
And to give them an electoral college advantage in the shrinking blue states.
Visas come attached with conditions. Not sure why reason can't figure this out.
And even if they didn't, the 1A doesn't automatically defend Free Speech over Peaceable Assembly. If you're completely peacefully protesting so loud that students can't concentrate while they're in class, your "MUH HECKLER'S VEETOE!" retardation just demonstrates that you don't actually want to solve any problems, you just want to make the 1A an active right and use taxpayer dollars to support your soapbox.
Spoken like a true genocidal zionist trying to make excuses for mass murder. “Oh golly, I feel threatened when they protest against our mass murder of a people who won’t handover their land to us. Oh please, please rescue my little murder condoning candy ass.
I guess we should be glad that Misek is not dead or something.
Eh, I sorta like him/her.
GOOD
300 is a good start.
Let’s work on getting g that up to 3,000, and as many more as it takes.
"often being detained and taken away by immigration officials with seemingly no due process"
Folks, if Congress had intended to require due process before deporting non-citizen visitors, they should have specified what their due process rights and procedures were at the time they passed the law. The fact that Congress can barely find its ass with both hands should NEVER be an excuse for legal action against the Executive department. Although I might wish that Congress would do its job with some modicum of legal competence; or even that Congress would STOP passing laws altogether and start doing what the framers of the Constitution envisioned under separation of powers and checks and balances, it has not been the rule at any time in the last century and a half. And it is highly unlikely to change any time soon.
Due process is a Constitutional right. Congress does not have to authorize it.
Foreign criminals (democrat foot soldiers) don’t get that right.
Congress has a role in defining what due process is in particular situations.
Okay, so have the current congress define due process for non-full citizens as the Democrats would like .... what, the current congress can't pass a bill to save its life? then I would think Judges should sit it out until they do.
Current law already defines all this. Tony Godiva is just a liar. This has all been explained to him many times of late.
It just doesn’t work the way he would like.
You continue to say the same retarded shit over and over. Their due process is the revocation of their visa which then makes them illegally here which makes them then deportable.
This has happened in every airport for decades with HSI and customs officials.
Just because you want something doesn't make that something true you retarded unlearning fuck.
What degree of due process applies here?
So far, students who merely attended protests or co-authored relatively milquetoast pro-Palestine op-eds—as in the case of Tufts University graduate student Rumeysa Ozturk—
It's sad Reason describes her open antisemitism as "milquetoast".
Radical Palestinian: "Kill all the Jews!"
Moderate Palestinian: "Kill HALF the Jews!"
Moderate Palestinian: Jordan to the Mediterranean.
Radical Palestinian: Pick a river and a sea.
I thought it was:
Regular Palestinian "We should kill all the Jews."
Moderate Palestinian "Have them kill all the Jews for us."
First they went after students visa holders, and I didn’t speak up because I didn’t have a student visa.
First they went after the student visa holders and I didn’t speak up because they’re a bunch of Jew-hating retards.
Are their rights being violated?
No rights they actually have under the existing law.
...Then they came for the fentanyl dealers and narcotraficantes, and Sarc did not speak out—because he was absolutely blotto.
Then they came for the pedophiles, and Sarc did not speak out—Because he was passed out drunk.
Then they came for the alcoholic trolls, and there was no one left to speak for Sarc.
And then they came for the free-loading Somalis and I said, “Make sure you round every last one of them up.”
Marco is to Trump as Franco was to Hitler. The guy is defending his Führer and sticking up for the Christian National Socialist platform of 1920: Point 8. Any further immigration of non-Germans is to be prevented. We demand that all non-Germans who have entered Germany since August 2, 1914, be forced to leave the Reich immediately. (Change Germans to 'Murricans and the update is done)
HITLER!!!!
Comstock girlbulliers!!!!!!!
COOOOOOOOOMSTAAAAAAAHHHKKKKK!!!
Losing the ability to get porn in the mail really crimped Hank's style back in 1874, but the fact that nowadays it's modern enforcement is primarily focused on prosecuting child pornography is what really makes him mad.
NOOOO !!
And speaking of national socialism Hank, you promised to post pics of hot Nazi chicks in revealing swimwear and never followed through. What happened with that? Comstock prevents you from mailing Nazi porn but you can still post links on the interwebs.
no one in good faith could argue it expresses support for Hamas
If she were a member of Hamas what would she do differently? Even the people of Gaza express more opposition to Hamas than she is. They know Hamas is causing the problem, why is she hiding that the violence she objects to was caused by Hamas murdering some 1,500 civilians?
After Franco was voted out, and his J6ers initiated violence to restore deadly political power to "el caudillo de Dios," German warships and sockpuppet submarines hovered off the coast of Spain to attack any who questioned Christianofascist "we wuz robbed" whiners.
Thank God for the Libertarian stealer votes.
“Stealer votes” or spoiler votes?
I guess it’s all the same as long as it serves to thwart the nebulous (drink!) girl bulliers.
Bye bitches!
Khalil got his green card by marriage within 23 months of arrival in the country. All such green cards are probationary for 2 years. It can be revoked at any moment.
Aside from that, it is bizarre that by some magic he had an incredibly expedited process in the first place, bypassing all normal waiting periods and goalposts. I would like to hear the stated explanation for how this was achieved. Anyone who's experienced this process knows what I mean.
A green card through a marriage (before Trump 2.0) could be very quick. It's a fast (for government) process. Took us 2 years and 9 months of that was because the first lawyer fucked everything up and tried to steal the money.
My SIL got hers just before Trump changed the rules.
Good.
Our immigration system shouldn't favor people who hate us, or what we believe.
Not just not favor, not tolerate. If you're the open borders type, slash taxes and spending (and regulation). Not try. Not succeed at reducing the rate of increase, slash. Otherwise, it's an is/ought issue and you're essentially telling every last American that they have to pay their taxes and *then* shut the hell up if they don't like how the money is being spent.
Someone robbing people to feed their starving family is a moral potential moral quandary or equivalency. The government robbing natives in order to find people from around the world to give it to is inherently wrong and the fact that some of the people they wind up giving it to also hate us should not be tolerated.
Once again, to all the fascists here due process means that we give them a hearing in front of a neutral magistrate before we cancel their visas.
A right you deny to American citizens your retarded ass hates.
Nah. It means what the law says it means.
Their visas are a gift, at most. We have zero obligation to allow them to keep them, anymore than we are obligated to let you keep your driver's license if you refuse a roadside DUI test.
It depends on what the law is.
According to the law, 8 USC 1227 (a)(4)(C)(i) "An alien whose presence or activities in the United States the Secretary of State has reasonable ground to believe would have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the United States is deportable," The secretary of state can deport foreigners on their reasonable belief.
Would you have been against the secretary of state utilizing that law back in 2000 and 2001 to deport several foreign students attending flight schools in the US?
Says who? Where is that in statute or case law?
Just making up stuff.
Once again you retarded fuck, this is solely true for criminal cases. Many civil level acts are handles through clerks, executive officials, and such.
You remain completely retarded.
A revocation of a visa is civil, not criminal dumbfuck.
Your license can be suspended without the involvement of a court. You can petition to get it back. These people can petition for their visas in their home country.
God damn you're a fucking moron.
Once again, to all the steaming piles of TDS-addled shit here: Fuck off and die.
What if I mentioned that the US deported an alien for joining the Communist Party.
Would you believe me?
Certainly not recently.
Emma, would you have been against the secretary of state deporting foreign students attending flight schools in the US back in 2000 and 2001, stopping them from being able to murder over 3000 people in one day?
She would have screamed bloody murder.
Absolutely against.
They hadn't committed any crimes at that point. That's the whole basis against the hideous "red flag" laws that states are pushing; "Take away his gun, he might theoretically commit a crime someday". When someone commits a crime, then the person should be punished. You can't punish someone pre-emptively for something they may or may not do.
I wonder if any of these principled Trump defenders would have supported deporting visa holders involved in the events of J6.
Ha ha just kidding. Like any visa holders would be dumb enough to support him.
You get more moronic with each passing day. You really need to try AA.
Reason editors and their leftist friends want to force immigration into a legal paradigm that includes the rights guaranteed to citizens as criminal defendants. Guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. That is simply not the way it works and never has. Immigrants are not entitled to due process except what is afforded by statute and a determination by the Secretary of State satisfies the required due process. The government does not have to charge them with a crime or have them indicted by a grand jury or guarantee a speedy jury trial or litigate bail. If Reason wants to extend the rights of citizens to individuals on temporary visas make that case. But in the meantime just stop lying.
They qualify for jury trials and the like in criminal trials. None of these, at all, have been criminal trials.
for nebulous allegations that they supported terrorism
By nebulous you mean standing with hundreds of people and with them praising the Oct 7th attacks after chasing Jewish students into locking themselves in a safe room?
Congress has aithirized immigration courts to decide how nebulous these charges are.
Also authorized the Sec of State to do so.
Which is being done.
All the cool kids are saying nebulous this week.
That claim is nebulous.
Oh, well sure, if you count *that* ...
>Earlier this month, immigration officials seized Mahmoud Khali
We have so many visa holders being oppressed that we only have this guy as the poster-child? Is there no one among the seized with a more sympathetic backstory? Is he the most telegenic one of the bunch? Everyone else is worse?
I hear there is this sad Venezuelan soccer player in custody. Innocent as the day is long.
Better a hundred innocent men be executed than one guilty man go free.
>Credible accusations against Israel include accounts of deliberate starvation and indiscriminate slaughter
'Relatively milqtoast' is carrying a lot of weight here.
Sure, he's not directly calling for violence against his peers - he's just pushing inflammatory lies and offering the suggestion that the world would be better off without them.
>While the op-ed condemns Israel's war in Gaza decisively
Is it also Ukraine's war in Ukraine? Palestinians started the war. It is Palestine's war. And, like Russia, could end it today if they chose.
Whatever should we do with that white kid from South Africa, here on a student visa, who helped organize the KKK march through a Black neighborhood before burning a cross on the lawn of the AME Church and writes op-eds advocating white supremacy?
I guess Emma thinks we should let him stay.
"We gave you a visa to come and study and get a degree, not become a social activist that tears up our university campuses. And if we've given you a visa and you decide to do that, we're going to take it away," Rubio added.
Mic drop.
I am a teacher, we need 3000
Thanks to Obama and esp Biden , college is now where shiftless, dumb, anti-American pleasure seekers go to avoid life and make it worse for everybody else.
I thought it was:
Regular Palestinian "We should kill all the Jews."
Moderate Palestinian "Have them kill all the Jews for us."
Well, good to know that the supposed "Free speech absolutism" that the MAGA crowd was bleating about for the past 5 years was all a lie. They never were in favor of "free speech absolutism". They were always in favor of "free speech for me, but not for thee".
Ozturk wrote an op-ed critical of Israel in its war in Gaza. That's it.
She did not join a protest.
She did not give money to terrorists.
She did not declare herself to be a member of Hamas.
She did not go to anyone's funeral.
She did not vandalize any property.
She did not intimidate or harass any Jews or anyone.
She is being thrown out of the country because of her speech.
If you support this then you are not a "free speech absolutist", you favor free speech for some but not for others. Which means that you do not believe free speech is a universal human right. Instead, I suspect, that you believe in a hierarchy of rights: only the most worthy are entitled to have the most liberty, and those who are deemed "unworthy" by some standard get their rights taken away.
Team Red does not believe in liberty. They believe in privileges for their side and oppression for everyone else.
So, how many citizens are also critical of Israel's war in Gaza? What happens when they express their criticism, and the government decides to label them as "supporting terrorism"? We cannot count on Team Red to stand up for the rights of citizens.
What will happen is Trump’s defenders will say that if you don’t support Israel then you support Hamas, which is a terrorist organization, and because of that you’re an enemy combatant with no rights. That makes it perfectly find to disappear you to a black site without due process. Anyone who complains is a hypocrite for not complaining about how the J6 political prisoners were treated. That invalidates criticism and makes it ok.
We do.
She was not a citizen.
Do you now acknowledge citizens and non-citizens are different?
Well of course citizens and non-citizens are different in some ways, but all people have liberty as a universal birthright, and that includes freedom of speech. Do you agree?
But if they are foreigners they do not have the right to be in our country without permission while they speak freely.
Nope. Not our job to save the world from itself. If her home would not allow it, does not seem like our problem.
She was a guest. WE no longer see any benefit in her remaining. Thus, she will not be.
Haven’t you read Article VIII of the Constitution? It lays out all the exceptions where the rest of the document doesn’t apply. It contains several clauses including the “citizens only” clause, the “checks and balances are lame” clause, the “separation of powers is for pussies” clause, and of course the “fuck you that’s why” clause. Trump is using all of them.
Free speech means you’re absolutely free to say whatever you want as long as it aligns with what Trump and his defenders believe, otherwise you can get the fuck out. They’re exactly like leftists in that regard. Only difference is what they believe.
If I told you the U.S. had deported an alien for being in the Communist Party, would you believe me?
Pro-Hamas = Buh-bye.
Put your tears in the jug.
1A is not a license to empower terrorism. If you think it is, we'll call ICE on you too. Because get out.
So you say.
we have legal procedures to determine if these claims are true.
Would it be constitutional to expel all black visitors? If yes, our Constitution is flawed. If no, then the power to expel isn’t absolute.
I'm going to straight up DERP that.
If all those black "visitors" had "I hate America" tattooed on their face, then yes it would be absolutely constitutional to expel them. The expulsion would have nothing to do with their blackness, however. Just so happens that they're all like that.
They're not being expelled because of their skin-color. They're being expelled because they hate America and mean its people harm.
Your argument to make it seem racist is MSNBC-level cringeworthy.
Yes, but it would be a much better idea to expel all Chinese visitors.
Fuck you. I need my Kung Pao beef. Expel the Germans. Their food sucks.
But my schnitzel!
Would it be possible to assume some asshole could arrive at a strawman this obvious?
Well, it seems this shit-pile did.
"Earlier this month, immigration officials seized Mahmoud Khalil, a green card holder and the leader of student protests at Columbia University."
So we can hold the leader of the protests responsible for the criminal activity the protesters he was leading committed as a part of the protests (trespass, harassment), right?
No, that logic only applies to certain presidents inciting certain "insurrections".
"Cause it's their RIGHT to be *ENTITLED* to US Visas!!!", Emma Camp paraphrased.
Isn't it amazing how fast visitors in your home claim RIGHTS to your home.
From my perspective, Emma is solidly enshrined as the third-worst mind at Reason (after Sullum and Boehm). So it's not surprising she would write this pablum.
However, this IS the official LP stance on all things immigration. The party is still staunchly in favor of open borders, despite all evidence that even partial open borders were a colossal disaster. Which is among the numerous reasons I won't associate myself with the formal LP any more than I will with the DNC or RNC.
I was at least philosophically an open boarders proponent until I saw the real world consequences under Biden and in Western Europe. I admit I was wrong and not for the first time. Can the Reason libertarians do the the same?
I wasn't, but probably because I saw the California I grew up in decimated by open borders. But I have been wrong about plenty as well.
I think the LP is uniquely positioned to learn nothing ever because it has no intention or chance of ever governing. So it can cling to long-disproven ideas in the name of consistency or freedom or something.
There are no mental/ideological/philosophical hoops for libertarians to jump through on legal immigration or free trade, here's why:
These systems already exist and are firmly entrenched.
Libertarians get caught up in this weird tabula rasa thinking, and I don't know where it comes from. Libertarians will never have the luxury of building a political or economic system from the ground up.* We have to work in the systems that already exist and try to bend things toward personal liberty.
Absent a level playing field when it comes to legal immigration and trade, we libertarians can only influence.
*Hobby libertopias like seasteading and South American communes are just rich bored people LARPing.
Riffing on this more:
Libertarians are Objectivist adjacent if not wholly within a Venn circle. As such we are sensitive to is/ought dissonance in others, but are we blind to it in ourselves? This system IS and we have to attempt fix the plane while it is in the air.
Realpolitik.
Where is this country that has open borders? It certainly isn't the U.S. Immigrating to the U.S. legally is quite difficult. We haven't had "open borders" by any normal definition of the term in at least a hundred years.
If you mean that we haven't been searching for and rounding up and deporting millions of people that aren't fully legally authorized to be present in the U.S., then yeah. That is a serious problem. Getting a large majority of the country to answer yes to a poll question about whether our immigration system is broken should not surprise anyone.
But, as always, blame is never put on the agricultural industry or the construction industries and the hospitality and service industries that employ the vast majority of "illegal" immigrants in low wage jobs. Nor is blame put on the ordinary American consumer that wants the low prices for commodities that are enabled by that cheap labor. And some segments of the American public that complains about all of the poor people coming here don't seem to be willing to do anything at all to help them in their countries so that they'd want to stay there instead of risking so much to come here (some risk their lives to come to the U.S.).
If we really want to fix the broken immigration system, we will need solutions that don't ignore the main drivers of its problems.
If by "legal resident" you mean "someone who is not a citizen, and is here on a visa as our guest", then yes, they *can* go TF home if they speak against us. (And especially if they gather in mobs and threaten us.)
We don't *have* to invite people here who hate us.
Well, Emma, if this is "shocking", you must have been in a coma during the election.
More of the kind of Free Speech Absolutism that MAGA claimed to want, I see.
More lefty bullshit from the asshole who supports murder of the unarmed:

“How many officers were there to stop Ashlee Babbitt and the dozens of people behind her from getting into the legislative chamber to do who knows what?...”
Fuck off and die, shitbag.
Given how incompetent this admin is let me say:
1. The real number is probably not 300 may be like 13.
2. Of those 13 most are not even students and not even on visa.
3. Of those 13 may be five were already outside USA.
4. Of the remaining, most have nothing to do with any alleged crime but Rubio used the discretionary power DoS has to cancel anyone's any visa or any immigration status.
Given how you suffer from TDS, let me say:
Probably nothing in your comment has any connection with reality.
It is very simple to prove me wrong. If you can find names of at least say 30 people (based on public news media) (10% of what Rubio claimed) I will apologize and also donate $100 to Reason foundation.
Since you are so convinced, it should be pretty simple for you.
