Brickbat: Back of the Queue

The National Health Service would delay some surgeries for smokers and for obese patients under reforms announced by the United Kingdom's Labour Party government. Obese patients will be required to undergo a 12-week weight loss plan before being scheduled for hip and knee replacements. Smokers will be asked to stop smoking and be "confirmed…as fit to proceed" before receiving any non-cancer surgeries. Those who do not comply will be put on wait lists, with fitter patients getting priority slots for surgery.

Utterly wrong and immoral.
Most smokers get MORE nervous before surgery. And dumping that on overweight folks also INCREASES the stress.
This changes the nature of the doctor from helper of the sick to tool of the state.
Let me guess, you didn't see that coming?

The NHS can do what it wants with the domestic animals it owns, i.e. British subjects.
My first thoughts were, How did the NHS ever decide to do something logical? Usually everything coming out of there makes zero sense.
But of course, it's only logical if you accept socialist health care in the first place.
Watch-out for those "Labour" Parties.
Something, something about the National Socialist German Workers Party.

Also, Muslims will get obvious priority over anyone else.
Requiring obese patients to work on weight loss before surgery probably improves the odds of successful surgery, because there will be less stress on the repaired joints. That doesn't seem like an unreasonable requirement. Spending endlessly on patients without requiring a bit of personal responsibility seems more deserving of a brickbat.
