2024 Was the Hottest Year On Record
Most researchers report the global temperature last year was more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial average.

It's official. 2024 was the hottest year in the instrumental record. How hot? Last year the global average temperature rose more than 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above the 19th century pre-industrial mean, according to most of the scientific organizations that track global temperature trends. This exceeds, for the first time, the aspirational goal set forth by the 2015 Paris Climate Change Agreement to limit the increase in global temperatures to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. Each of the 10 hottest years have come over the past decade.
Let's look at what various research groups have reported.
The European Copernicus Climate Change Service calculates that the 2024 global average temperature was 1.6 degrees Celsius (2.9 degrees Fahrenheit) above the pre-industrial average. That is 0.12 degrees Celsius higher than the previous highest annual value in 2023.

However, as the Copernicus report notes: "One or two years that exceed 1.5°C above the pre-industrial level does not imply that the Paris Agreement has been breached. However, with the current rate of warming at more than 0.2°C per decade, the probability of breaching the 1.5°C target of the Paris Agreement within the 2030s is highly likely." This rate of temperature increase is about ten times faster than the increase that ended the last ice age about 11,500 years ago.
The independent Berkeley Earth group similarly reports that the "global annual average for 2024 in our dataset is estimated as 1.62 ± 0.06 °C (2.91 ± 0.11 °F) above the average during the period 1850 to 1900, which is traditionally used a reference for the pre-industrial period." They add that 2024 was the warmest year on land, reaching 2.28 degrees Celsius, or 4.11 degrees Fahrenheit, above the 1850 to 1900 average. That is sharply up from the previous record set in 2023 by 0.20 degrees Celsius (0.35 degrees Fahrenheit).

The United Kingdom's Met Office affirms that 2024 is the hottest year in their records. The U.K. climatologists estimate that global average temperature for 2024 was 1.53±0.08 degrees Celsius above the 1850–1900 global average.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration also reports that 2024 is the hottest year, but its estimate of global average temperature in 2024 at 1.46 degrees Celsius (2.63 degrees Fahrenheit) was slightly lower than the European and Berkeley Earth calculations.

Even according to the shorter-term satellite measurements by the University of Alabama, Huntsville climate researchers John Christy and Roy Spencer, "2024 was by far the warmest in the 46-year satellite record averaging 0.77 deg. C above the 30-year mean, while the 2nd warmest year (2023) was +0.43 deg. C above the 30-year mean."

The increase coincided with a strong El Niño in which hotter ocean surface waters periodically sloshing across the Eastern Pacific Ocean raise average global temperatures. Some research suggests that a 2020 rule mandating that the world's fleet of nearly 100,000 ocean-going freighters cut the amount of sulfur in their fuels by 80 percent is partially to blame for higher temperatures in the last few years. Sulfur particles served as nuclei for the creation of bright low-level clouds that reflect heat back into space. The absence of sulfur particles formerly emitted along ship tracks correlated with a reduction in the formation of cooling clouds. This reduction in air pollution suggests that the recent jump might be a one-time spike rather than an acceleration of a rising temperature trend.
The Copernicus report notes: "One or two years that exceed 1.5°C above the pre-industrial level does not imply that the Paris Agreement has been breached. However, with the current rate of warming at more than 0.2°C per decade, the probability of breaching the 1.5°C target of the Paris Agreement within the 2030s is highly likely."

Great. Now we've breached the magic 1.5°C threshold and we're all doomed. The science is settled and we're all doomed. Can we quit funding more climate catastrophe research now and stop preach about eating bugs and banning gas stoves and replacing forests with windmills and covering deserts with toxic solar panels?
Sorry, I can't hear you from my state of recent death from climate.
[Kent Brockman voice]OH THE HUMANITY! Well, anyway...
No. No we can't.
Reminds me of the homeless guy I saw carrying a sign around in SF that The Rapture would happen on December 27, 2002 and we must repent now. He just changed the date and soon we will see 2.0 C by 2050 as the new goal.
The IPCC and its ilk were dangerously wrong in panic-selling the aspirational goal of 1.5C as if 1.5C was actually a temperature threat.
Now the 1.5C is here. The IPCC/ilk have proven that they can't achieve anything.
And now there is no projection that even exists re what will actually happen with the actual temperature threats at 2-3C. Which will happen in a few decades.
"The IPCC and its ilk were dangerously wrong in panic-selling the aspirational goal of 1.5C as if 1.5C was actually a temperature threat..."
JFucked has finally realized that masks didn't do a damn thing, only five years late!
Fuck off and die, asshole
'Most researchers report the global temperature last year was more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial average.'
And will most researchers admit that the 19th century reference may actually have been cooler than average for the past few thousand years?
No. No they won't.
GIGO
"Climate change" and social science suffer from an extreme amount of garbage in/garbage out data and analysis.
For some reason we aren't supposed to see the poor assumptions, manipulation of data, and outright lying and misrepresentation of data.
I do not remember ever hearing about the temperature going DOWN, yet the chart shows it did.
Weird.
Also, while 170 years may sound like a long time to children, it is 0.9% of the time since the last glacial maximum ended, 0.01% of the time since the current oscillations between glacial and inter-glacial periods really kicked in, and 0.0000004% of earth history.
But go for it, guys.
When , pray, was the last time global temperatures rose more than a degree in 170 years?
You do know the earth had existed 4.5 billion years before 1850, right?
Yes but the pre industrial age was a magical time of perfect climate. I'm guessing all of the human sacrifices appeased the global warming gods.
When, pray, did you, as assholic pile of shit, have anything to offer?
Fuck off and die, shitbag.
Never that we can tell. Because our proxy measurements are fundamentally unable to tell at that resolution. Anyone who says they are that accurate is trying to sell you something.
To be honest, I have serious questions about proxy calibration. We can tell to a very rough degree, but even with our current sensor network, the tenth-of-a-degree (much less the hundredth of a degree) is absolutely false precision.
More than a WHOLE DEGREE!?!? Wow that's such a MASSIVE TEMPERATURE CHANGE.
I'm sure you could tell the difference between 32°F and 33°F, right?? That's the difference between LIFE and DEATH.
Oh, I get it now! "It's Official" equals "It Must Be True!" We looked at some increasingly less inaccurate and incomplete global temperature data from the last 150 years and accurate date from the last 50 years, compared it to 1 million years of global temperature estimates covering four Ice Ages and four interglacial periods and concluded that man-made energy use is causing a disaster that requires us to immediately return to the caves and climb trees to avoid predators and kill off nine-tenths of the earth's human population in the process. It's all clear to me now!
Horse hockey. The source data continues to overrepresent urban areas and remains uncorrected for the urban heat island effect. The source data also contains large numbers of known low quality temperature stations subject to transient skewing that represents man-made artifacts rather than climate. (Think the airport temperature station that now gets hit with jet backwash instead of propellor-driven planes.)
wattsupwiththat has had some excellent exposés of fraudulent weather stations -- poorly cited like you mention at airports, next to air conditioners, parking lots, and highways. Britain has hundreds which don't even exist, and wuwt reported one listed as "such and so airport since 1870".
It isn't just the weather stations, but half of the official temps are modeled temps yo extrapolate or infill temperatures, some with quite insane estimates of temperature.
Basically models that assume hotter than measured temps do the heavy lifting.
The official weather station in my area sits next to a facilities lot with vehicles often running.
Official city temp is the airport station that is generally 4-5 deg warmer than the thermometer i have.
Then there is all the evidence from countries like Australia revising historical measured temperatures down due to what their models say it should have been.
wattsupwiththat, or vvattsupwiththat?
Let us now celebrate WUWT's 20 most famous climagogues , apart from VVillard VVatts himself.
https://vvattsupwiththat.blogspot.com/2016/01/top-20reasonsto-leave-climate-blog.html
Let us now celebrate the watermelon asshole who shows up here. With the assholic fake web site the shit-pile promotes.
Let us now add this serially numbered ignoramus as #21 on the WUWT short list of shame.
I'm still shocked that after the urban heat island effect was pointed out in the early 2000s, they still stubbornly stick to them.
The major temperature increases have occurred in the polar regions - where there are not cities or heat islands - or from the oceans during El Nino years -where there are no cities.
And I'm sure such cherry-picking means something to JFucked.
There's also no monitoring stations there. Go figure.
Ice cores record the older data as changes in oxygen isotope ratios.
And if you believe that you can accurately use that as a model of temperatures on a sub-degree precision, I've got some oceanfront property outside of Tuscon you might be interested in.
"The source data also contains large numbers of known low quality temperature stations subject to transient skewing that represents man-made artifacts rather than climate. "
The sea surface temperatures are also setting records. There are no urban heat islands in the sea. You aren't suggesting that the backwash from jet engines is raising the temperature of the oceans, are you?
Oh, good!
Now that it is 'official' we can dismiss it as pure bullshit like all the other 'official' proclamations.
Rather than repeating the things we keep saying on these dumb global warming articles, I'll keep it simple.
Ron, you're an idiot and suck at your job.
MOAR TESTING NEEDED!
It was about time for Ron to vomit some of his climate idiocy.
It's always the 'hottest year on record' because they make it up, Ron.

Don't listen to what they say, watch what they do.
Why do so many of the rich folks that care about this stuff, in theory, live on coasts that they tell us will be gone soon, and fly private jets that are pumping tons of carbon into the atmosphere
It does seem like they dont actually buy any of the pseudoscience cult shit
Most researchers report the global temperature last year was more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial average.
My house is warmer right now than it was at 3am.
The people who have incentives to say it's warmer are saying so and yet I don't know anyone else who noticed such a trend.
Locally, we had a cool fall, mild summer, cold spring (massive crop losses from late frost) and a mild winter.
Gonna have to explain what regions had enough recorded warming to create the trend.
I wish mine was... Brr.
I wonder if it still "wrong" to notice what their funding requires them to say to continue flowing.
3 years ago, the Hunga Tonga-Hunga volcano erupted and sent a large amount of water vapor into the atmosphere
At the time, scientists said that this would likely raise temperatures around the globe for years to come
No mention of this fact in this article
Well, we all know carbon emissions cause volcanic eruptions. It's the science and all.
Duh. I still dinnae know if Bailey ever finished high school. His thumbnail betrays no inkling of awareness there is any such thing as education. Nothing he writes conveys any understanding of physical dimensions, units of measure or problem-solving capacity of any kind. Has this guy EVER so much as charted a graph to depict data in any relevant context?

Under what historical perspective is 1850-1900 pre-industrial? The industrial age started depending on which historian around the end of the 17th century and was in full swing by the mid 19th century. The main fuel at that time was coal, which is the dirtiest form of fossil fuels and the early coal furnaces were extremely inefficient. By the mid 19th century almost all of Europe and the East Coast of the US was fully industrialized using coal as it's primary energy source. Petroleum production picked up significantly in the immediate post-bellum US. So the question is who picked the starting point and what was their criteria, because it certainly wasn't from an historical aspect (by 1850 urban cities like Manchester and Liverpool were already described as factory hell holes due to the coal powered factories and coal powered steam ships and railroads).
"Under what historical perspective is 1850-1900 pre-industrial?"
100% this. The skies were black from soot and major cities caked in smog from all the industry then.
To call 1850-1900 pre-industrial is like calling right now pre-nuclear, or pre-jet age.
" So the question is who picked the starting point and what was their criteria"
Yes, that is the question indeed. And I think we are all aware of the gist of the answer.
Under what historical perspective is 1850-1900 pre-industrial?
Do you want a/the answer or do you want an answer that makes sense in the context?
A/the answer is ~1900 is when Ransom Olds patented the assembly line and Henry Ford began spinning Model Ts off of them. Now, in context, this doesn't make any more sense than what you assert because a.) assembly lines actually existed well before the patent, Olds and Ford were just the first to adopt them from the ground up, b.) assembly lines actually lowered the cost of production, as indicated, numerous foundries and other facilities had railways and tramways to transport parts to various points along their "assembly paths" that more line-oriented consolidation would've obviates, and c.) it would still be ~50 yrs. before the US neared the "a car in every garage" threshold and, even today, automobile emissions are only a fraction of overall emissions.
My point is, if we're discussing hydrocarbon burning for energy, that shit was already in full swing by the 1850s across Europe and the US. If we're talking mass produced cars, like you point out, even despite Ford, automobiles were far from ubiquitous until World War II. For example my Great Grandpa was still farming with horses until he purchased his first tractor the year my father was born, 1954 and this was not uncommon across vast stretches of the US. Just before the US entered World War I the US Army field tested the ability to drive a motor vehicle across the US, it took months to complete due to the lack of infrastructure and breakdowns. We call World War 2 a motorized war, but almost all of the combatants, except the US (and Britain in the ETO after Lend Lease) their primary mode of moving supplies, and even artillery, were horses. World War I is often labeled the first industrial war (albeit the Crimean War should probably have this label) but, again, for all combatants horses were the primary movers. So, really, Ford is a poor starting point. If widespread use of fossil fuels as an energy source, the early 19th or mid 19th century at the latest, should be the starting point; although, an argument could be made for the early 18th century too, when the first steam engines (first commercially successful steam engines was patented in 1712 in England) began to appear, and coal became a common heating fuel in Europe.
You're getting closer to the mark: it takes rails to move coal on an industrial scale, and the industrial revolution took off in earnest when hundred-horsepower steam locomotives began hauling the thousands of tons of fossil fuel needed to sustain its expansion overland.
Shiploads of coal began moving from coastal coal mining districts like Newcastle in late medieval times, but for lack of haulage, that coal only served to fuel port cities like London.
"Under what historical perspective is 1850-1900 pre-industrial?"
Watermelon cherry-picking.
1850 - 1900 is considered the end of the little ice age. I think they're saying mankind ended an ice age accidentally and prematurely causing global warming. Just think, we should all be freezing in the middle of summer right now if we'd left nature alone.
We're still in the ice age. The ice caps at the north and south pole are the give away.
"Under what historical perspective is 1850-1900 pre-industrial? "
For most of the world, it was.
"By the mid 19th century almost all of Europe and the East Coast of the US was fully industrialized using coal as it's primary energy source."
The planet is much larger and more populous than Europe and the east coast of the US. There's also Asia and Africa, to name the planet's two largest continents.
Leftists believe it’s true so that means it’s not.
Do you even fucking know what you're trolling about in this thread, retard?
I’m saying that the veracity of facts are determined by the politics of the people who believe them, and the politics people can be determined by the facts that they believe.
At least that’s what you’d say if you were capable of being honest.
No you're not, you shitty drunken troll. You're trolling and lying about what people here on your enemies list believe to feed your bitter rage.
Nobody here hates Glenn Greenwald, Russell Brand, Matt Taibbi, Tulsi Gabbard, Jimmy Dore, or the hundreds of other leftist thinkers who realize your CNN establishmentarian stance is fascist.
I never even use the terms left or right any more because they're meaningless bullshit terms used by big government authoritarians to be dismissive. That's why I always make sure to only call you a progressive, fascist or a Democrat, because those are far more accurate descriptors of your beliefs, than leftist ever was.
"I never even use the terms left or right any more because they're meaningless bullshit terms used by big government authoritarians to be dismissive. That's why I always make sure to only call [them] a progressive, fascist or a Democrat, because those are far more accurate descriptors of [their] beliefs, than leftist ever was."
I'll second that!
And add to the list the all-inclusive "Globalist Fascist Pigs."
Umm, I might hate some of them. That Jimmy Doe is a communist. Not a liar though so he doesn't do it very well at it. Well not him but that Tulsi is a Russian asset right? I should hate her. But she is still kind of cute for a Russki so I can't bring myself to hate her. Russel Brand was a womanizing drunk with no shame. I hate scum bags like him. But he has found Jesus now and I believe he has true good intentions. I can't hate him for that. Well probably one of them unnamed leftists I hate if I got to know them. People violating my rights and wanting to take my property and freedom do inspire hatred in me. Though I am pretty much leaving my hatred reserved for bad people. That I am against.
EXCELLENT! The Nolan chart is truly reaping rewards. It only took 53 years for some folks to realize there are more than one dimension on a sheet of graph paper. Paper finally wraps stone-age primitivism, and razor scrapes away obscurantist bulldroppings!
"Glenn Greenwald, Russell Brand, Matt Taibbi, Tulsi Gabbard, Jimmy Dore, or the hundreds of other leftist thinkers"
"I never even use the terms left or right any more because they're meaningless bullshit "
You just called Glenn Greenwald etc leftists.
Mystical bigot muthaslammuh? Being HONEST!!? That's being funny.
Honestly, a decent starting point.
I would suggest a good algorithm to have would be:
Leftist says thing:
1 Assume thing is wrong, misguided, or flat out retarded
2 Use critical thinking to evaluate if broken clock applies and leftist was accidentally correct
Yep, ad hominems are not fallacies. The best way to judge something is the tribal allegiance of the person saying it.
We can stick with the track record of predictive quality of their data.
So, uh, how well does climate "science" predict anything in the future?
Maybe when progress has been made on chaos theory, modeling will become more predictive of weather and climate and the economy and other chaotic systems. Until then, linear modeling is wildly inaccurate after about 10 iterations. I keep saying this in response to doom and gloom climate change articles but it never seems to sink in.
For political purposes, hate delivers the votes. Thus actual competent scientists, terrified by hordes of looter barbarians out to ban electricity, sell out and vote for national socialists who promise to enslave women, wreck the economy enforcing sumptuary laws and burn books--but keep electricity legal. Judging by Dem successes since Reaganites hatched the plan, the experimental results prove that communist promises can unite science and superstition into an unpopular front. Integrity is one of those passé libertarian things.
The assumption there is that altruists of any stripe--Jeesus nazis or Stalin commies--or any of their diluted descendants--have any clue what consistency or integrity even signify. To Orangopox Trumpanzees, "Trump, fuck yeah!" follows consistently from profound and serious meditation on human values by the light of ordered liberty. Whereas to Bidenistas of the smug looter persuasion, "Eat the Rich!" follows from sober appreciation of historical reality and sensitive and nuanced appraisal of the true human condition. Both gangs embrace violent coercion and reject individual rights.
So the world is over right?
All the models have told me, up until this point, that if we passed these magic thresholds then are beyond saving.
So what's the date for end-earth? Or do we just get another model next year that says "ACCCCCTUALLY we looked at the data again and the threshold is a little bit higher now, for reasons"
Not that it matters but we got 7 in of snow here on Monday and it hasn’t been above freezing all week. They’re calling for more snow tonight.
Less than an inch last I saw (though they are awful at projecting weather here.)
Great, the packed ice on all the roads in my town need a new coating. Probably even odds that Montgomery County schools will be closed on Monday.
They predicted a "big" ice storm here.
It sleeted for about 2 hours. Nothing accumulated. Roads did not freeze in the slightest.
They cannot forecast weather even 24 hrs in advance with certainty --- but weather in 50 years? They got that on lockdown.
We are all going to die.
Again.
Like this?: https://realclimatescience.com/historical-references/#gsc.tab=0
Except it wasn't. They are using satellite records that only go back to 1973. Surface temperature records in cities that tracked temperature tell a different story.
Many of the high temperature records broken in the past 2 years were set in 1892 or 1936 or 1979/1980, roughly on a 44-year cycle (which aligns with 2023/2024), on top of the solar 11-year cycle.
Pick any large city in the US and go through the daily temperature records. A lot of them were set in the 1890s or 1930s or 1970s, and are still the daily records for most days.
Worth recycling (explains why checking average temperature overstates the trend vs. checking maximum temperatures):
https://wattsupwiththat.com/2024/01/16/2023-earths-hottest-year-on-record-claims-fail/
From the period of 1939-1945 we dumped a shit ton of CO2 into the atmosphere, on top of the shit ton we were dumping into the atmosphere since the start of the industrial revolution starting in the 18th century and this period was the coldest recorded temperatures across the northern hemisphere in a century. The next coldest was 1910-1920 (gee, nothing happened then either that drastically increased CO2 production).
Albeit, I have seen it hypothesized that the smoke and dust kicked up by a major industrial, global war, drastically increased cloud cover and that is what resulted in power temperatures, but that could be a self serving hypothesis to explain data that doesn't fit their trends.
Why am I not surprised to find in LinkedIn that, despite having no experience in climate science , Larry Hamlin spent :
"33 years with Southern California Edison" as " Vice President of Power Production responsible for Operation and Management" of 11.6 Gigawatts of gas plants and coal plants ?
Why am I not surprised that the assholic promoter of a fake web site makes an assholic irrelevant post?
Fuck off and die, shitbag.
So, uh, how do climate "scientists" get paid? And how well are they paid if they do NOT report that "OMG, THE EARTH IS COOKING!!"
Just curious.
2024 Was the Hottest Year On Record
If you cook the numbers so that you can ignore the 1930s. But other than that, definitely the hottest year on record.

I'll bet that's why we're having such a damn cold winter.
God is finally punishing the doubters who poo-pooed the 1970s Global Freezing Climate Domino theory. Viz: https://realclimatescience.com/1970s-ice-age-scare/#gsc.tab=0
you should literally just ignore all this and go on a roadtrip to the beach with your girlfriend.
When was the last time it snowed in Devore, California?
The people living at Big bear and Mammoth Lakes would like dispute global warming.
I went on a trip to Las Vegas on February 23, 2023.
I remember seeing snow on the ground in Devore, where the 15 and 215 merge just south of Cajon Summit, at an elevation of 2,510 feet above sea level.
There were snow flurries at ajon Summit and nearby Hesperia.
2023 was also known when many communities in the San Bernardino Mountains were isolated for weeks due to heavy snowfall.
And these Copernicus people called 2023 the hottest year on record.
*shakes fist at the sun*
No one's buying the bullshit anymore.
But the usual suspects are still being wined , dined, and paid to sell it.
This is a PR war, not a science or culture war.
Yes, it is, and watermelons like you are trying your best to use PR to fool the rest of the world.
Fuck off and die, asshole.
Why it's almost like the more 'Green Energy' the ?worse? it gets.
Pretty much how all the 'Progressive' Gov-Gun usage has gone.
Enter WWII with more CO2 than ever and the fastest drop in temperature ever recorded.
The left isn't "The Science" - they are literally the "Anti-Science".
It was?? Geez....last summer seemed like any other summer up here in Northern Michigan in fact it rarely made it into the 90s....ooops there it ....global cooling!!!
Now where's my relief money?
Congratulations. An article about record setting temperatures without mentioning greenhouse gases or carbon dioxide.
Or Palestinian genocide!!
Plenty of commenters are discussing greenhouse gases. Ronald Bailey has taken pains to avoid any mention.
LOL, sure. Who is doing the measuring of these "global temperatures"? The climate change industrial complex is who.
"Who is doing the measuring of these "global temperatures"?
Not who but what. Thermometers and satellites measure temperatures.
"The climate change industrial complex is who."
?
And the Climate Change Industrial Complex (CCIC) is run by the Globalist Fascist Pigs (GFP); they all eat at the same trough.
People are dying!
According to historic PA and Pittsburgh weather data, it was warmer (i.e. average yearly temperature over five year and ten year periods) in Pittsburgh and PA in the 1880s, 1890s and 1930s (than during the past five or ten years).
During the last two years (both the hottest in world records according to extremist carbon banners) I've used my bedroom air conditioner on just ten nights (i.e. five nights per year), as the cool breezes at night make it easy to sleep (with the windows open).
Meanwhile, the temperature in Pittsburgh so far in 2025 still hasn't gotten above freezing, and its been in teens each night for the past week.
Besides, if anyone is to blamed (and held accountable) for emitting massive amounts of CO into the atmosphere, its the Chinese. But of course, Bailey and other left wingers refuse to hold the Chinese Communists accountable for anything.
Bill,
I used to work at Butler Airport, just a bit North of Pittsburgh. This was 1990-91. At that time they installed an Automated Weather Observation Station (AWOS). Before that we used to manually record the temperature, barometric pressure, wind speed and direction. To do this we used the weather station that was just outside the terminal. There were pictures of that station being there from the 1930's, in the same location. The thermometer was made in 1931. Once AWOS was on line, we threw away the ledger books that we recorded the data in. There were dozens of them, going back to the 30's. I didn't think about it at the time, but, I'd love to have those books back and graph the temperature data.
The climate people KNEW that the temperature was going up and causing more frequent and severe fires, yet they did nothing to ameliorate such fires. California government knew it and did nothing. Las Angeles knew it and cut spending on firefighters. Time for recalls and lawsuits.
Hattip to Sevo for invoking Watermelons meme author James Dellingpole , who after telling the BBC:
‘It’s not my job to sit down and read peer reviewed papers.
I'm an interpreter of interpretations.'
went to Vegas to host the "Outstanding Evangelical Climate Scientist of the Year" awards, and celebrate Freedomfest in words that reverberate with Sevo family values:
"Great God, Vegas is an awful place... Everyone was fat and drunk and dressed for the beach... Everywhere had the style and charm and tastefulness of Redditch...you can only survive Vegas if you learn to love it-- and to do that you must first sell it your soul...
The reason I was there was to cover two conferences... by day, I interviewed gold bugs, Ayn Rand junkies, Mises groupies and celebrities... At night, I got totally wasted and had adventures. My favourite was a trip to the Strip, the low-rent end of Vegas, where the clientele is poorer and trashier and the whores skankier... The tackier the better, really, because the more depraved and messed up everyone else looks, the less discomfited you are by your own growing squalor …
Stage a conference of libertarians, pot-legalisers , gun nuts and gold bugs in a city of booze, whores, gambling and semi-automatics: What could possibly go wrong?"
Is it January already? In less than two weeks, Las Vegas will once again host the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo.
I think it was Rolling Stone who sent David Foster Wallace to Vegas to cover its annual porno convention. The resulting essay, Big Red Son can be read here:

THE AMERICAN ACADEMY of Emergency Medicine confirms it: Each year, between one and two dozen adult US males are admitted to ERs after having castrated themselves. With kitchen tools, usually, sometimes wire cutters. In answer to the obvious question, surviving patients most often report that their sexual urges had become a source of intolerable conflict and anxiety. The desire for perfect release and the real-world impossibility of perfect, whenever-you-want-it release had together produced a tension they could no longer stand.
It is to the 30+ testosteronically afflicted males whose cases have been documented in the past two years that your correspondents wish to dedicate this article. And to those tormented souls considering autocastration in 1998, we wish to say: “Stop! Stay your hand! Hold off with those kitchen utensils and/or wire cutters!” Because we believe we may have found an alternative.
Up, Simba is another essay from the same collection. It details John McCain's 2000 failed primary race against Bush Jr. 'The Straight Talk Express' in many ways foreshadows Trump's campaigns.
Interesting discussion of the essay here:

Well, that sure explains why it's freezing down in Florida. Maybe the "climate scientists" could get Hilary Clinton to arkancide El Nino and La Nina so reality stops screwing the models. The models, the models, they're so beautiful...
I suspect it has something to do with it being January .
Not that that it the 77 below zero in the middle of Greenland syndrome has cooled Trump's aged ardor to deal with the Danes.
The problem is that were he to buy it at the price paid for the Virgin Islands in 1917- nearly an ounce of gold per acre - the $21 trillion strike price would inflate the National Debt by two thirds.
Good points. U.S. fighter planes wrecked on Greenland in WW2 somehow managed to end up buried under dozens of feet of snow and ice while Revelations of Soviet Faith told high-school dropouts the planet was broiling into a torment of Sharknados.
The Danish Virgin Islands were a rum paradise until God's politicians made America Dry. But as a drug entrepôt and smugglers' paradise amid German blockade-running subs, those politicians saw fit to pay any price--using other people's money--to nationalize them. Today, thanks largely to Herbert Hoover, they are prisons, courts and coercive patrol depots.
It's Official. We have finally come out of the Little Ice Age, the coldest period in the past 10,000 years, which saw massive crop failures, starvation and disease, and have started to approach temperatures seen for centuries during the Medieval Warm Period. If this continues warming for another century, we may reach temperatures seen during the Roman Warm Period. However, as we are at the end of this inter-glacial period and likely soon going into another Ice Age, we will not reach temperatures seen during the Minoan Warm Period three thousand years ago.
There, just added some missing context.
Tell us another one before you touch another drop of Koolaid:

The guy running Whattzup admits to no science degree, but rather, is a journalist who enjoys a good cockfight. He pits foe against foe and lets the chips fall where they may. When "we" (including Reason subscribers and contributors) stalked academia gathering Petition Project signatures, the requirement was a BSc MSc or Dphil in science, with exception carved out for British mathematicians. Pubic, too, could profit from trying to poke a hole in Tony Heller's case that Misanthropic Sharknado Warmunism is another religion that suckers chumps. https://realclimatescience.com/fifty-years-of-failed-apocalyptic-forecasts/#gsc.tab=0
I am unable to reconstruct this, but actual degreed geologists with a handy grasp of differential equations and ability to negotiate the periodic table assure me these things are true. Still, in my own experience, when Alvarez and Alvarez advanced a 20-km bolide impact as the explanation of the Cretaceous–Tertiary extinction and layer of clay, several geologists rose up in dismayed defense of their prior speculations, yet retired in good grace when sent scurrying by Alvarez' rebuttals of their alternative explanations. That's the difference between scientists and bureaus, groups, Dead Astronomer fan clubs, knavish Argeements, Offices or cliques of unidentified quacks.
Note that the 1930s are not part of the satellite record.
Noted. A Canadian writer of considerable parts has exploited the relevant measurements to practical advantage in "The Oppenheimer Alternative". Robert J Sawyer is keenly aware of the huge temperature increase of the 1930s that took till the late 40s or early 50s to return to the bell curve--even before fake data was weaponized. Far be it from me to plot-spoil such a fine read for the non-sockpuppets gracing this forum--that haven't yet read the book.
And the Antartic ice sheet is growing. Neither of which means that
1) this is controllable
2) that this is bad
3)_ that we should throw $3 TRILLION a year at it (Janet Yellen's 'minimum' )
4) that even if everyting is as claimed, not true that we don't have more pressing problems. Would you not be the greatest fool in the world to say
“The only existential threat humanity faces even more frightening than a — than a nuclear war is global warming going above 1.5 degrees in the next 20 — 10 years,” Biden said during a trip to Vietnam last month. “We’re — that’d be real trouble. There’s no way back from that.”
THis is maybe why people are backing off from the climate nonsense. I don't buy it because it is not scientific (as in research by analysis like Steven Koonin's 'Unsettled'
But many don't because now we using global warming to explain off the charts cold !!!!
Just silly
Your opening line is a lie, and here's the animated satellite map of Antarctic ice loss to prove it:

Sky God is Angry.
Throw your productive capacity into the volcano and ban electricity forever--OR BURN IN HELL!
Denialists in full force here, it seems, trotting out all the usual lies and bullshit - it's not happening, and if it is happening it's natural, and if it's not natural, well, it'll be a good thing.
What is the proven mechanism where increasing atmospheric CO2 by 50% will not have an effect on climate?
Where are the sceptical scientists' models, and how have they fared?
Some logic and philosophy goes a long way where mystical sockpuppets demand proof that there is no God, that is, prove a negative. The exact same coercive altruists swear that marijuana enslaves and wrecks your chromiums, that LSD causes fatal defenestration and that all the things that were legal and harmless in 1903 became Satanic when China boycotted U.S. exports to demand prohibition. In 1968 any child could prove by experiment the assertions are lies, that the Dictator was naked. Reason has debunked such crap since 1968. Bailey ought to spend a year trying to find climate error at realclimatescience.com. In 1930s Germany, another brand of nazis voted in group and reported to government that the Jewish scientist was wrong. Bailey is another chump failing at a Solomon Asch experiment confirmation.
This stuff says a lot more about "most researchers" getting government grants than it does about temperature. Observe that all but one of Bailey's sources are collectivized and anonymized. He goes directly to "groups" and cites the Dead Saint report, the holy Agreement, the government Office, the fake anon "climatologists" and a 4-letter government bureaucracy famous for fake charts. Ignored are the tens of thousands of degreed scientists with actual names cited at PetititonProject.org AND the contradictory fake charts Need Another Seven Astronauts published: https://libertariantranslator.wordpress.com/2023/05/16/the-reluctant-cannibal-ploy/
There is an obscure part of the financial industry - reinsurance - which is overwhelmingly motivated to get climate science right - and to that end they all have their own scientists. Reinsurance is driven by profit, not political agenda or external grants. Individual reinsurance companies within the sector know that if they find that climate change is some kind of scam or overhyped, they can undercut their competitors with lower premia. Meanwhile, if they think climate change is happening while their competition doesn't, they avoid selling insurance too cheaply, and just wait for the next disaster to put their competition under pressure.
Hence the reinsurance industry overall is as good a referee of "the science" as anyone - better, in fact,
When the idea of north- south climate modulation driven by ocean current heat transfer debuted at an American Meteorological Society meeting in Boston in 1984, the audience was drawn in large part from the reinsurers like Swiss and Munich Re, and major commodity traders like Archer-Daniels Midland, because climate change modulates crop futures prices as well as exposure risks.
RB is not doing the right analysis here.
To it all I say "so what"
FAR more people die from the cold.
THe increased CO2 is great for crops and rfe-greening of huge areas
New Satellite Images Reveal Sahara Desert Is Turning Green
Dr Koonin and others of great climate knowledge say this is not substantiated, we are pissing trillions away
Dr Peter Moore even says this is a great development.
