Florida Senator Marco Rubio | Graeme Sloan/Sipa USA/Newscom
Sen. Marco Rubio (Graeme Sloan/Sipa USA/Newscom)

Trump administration taking shape: Florida Sen. Marco Rubio will most likely be picked as secretary of state; former New York Rep. Lee Zeldin, a Republican who ran for governor against Kathy Hochul and lost, will helm the Environmental Protection Agency; Florida Rep. Mike Waltz will serve as national security adviser; and Rep. Elise Stefanik, who represents New York in the House, has been picked by President-elect Donald Trump to serve as ambassador to the United Nations.

Rubio is, unfortunately for libertarians, quite hawkish. He seems most interested in China affairs, taking a hard-line stance on curbing human rights abuses via government pressure, and he advocates shifting manufacturing back to America as a means of reducing reliance on Chinese imports. He has long supported Venezuelan sanctions, and he is a staunch supporter of Israel, calling Hamas "100 percent to blame" in response to a question about civilian deaths in Gaza.

Trump often deviated from the views of his top advisers.

And I know @DonaldJTrumpJr and others are doing what he said below.

But Trump's last 3 appointees - Elise Stefanik, Mike Weltz, and Rubio - are war hawks fully aligned with the worst prongs of bipartisan DC consensus. pic.twitter.com/LLW0YuDu85

"Despite speaking in hard-line terms about Russia in the past, Mr. Rubio would likely go along with Mr. Trump's expected plans to press Ukraine to find a way to come to a settlement with Russia and remain outside of NATO," reports The New York Times. "It is unclear whether the leaders of Ukraine or Russia would be prepared to enter into talks at Mr. Trump's urging."

Zeldin is probably a better pick for his post, at least in terms of libertarian priorities, than Rubio. "As president, Biden paused export permits for liquified natural gas, scrapped or stalled new oil and gas pipelines and attempted to bar new permits for drilling on federal land," reports the New York Post. Zeldin is expected to roll back most of those policies and be broadly focused on deregulation.

Zeldin "will ensure fair and swift deregulatory decisions that will be enacted in a way to unleash the power of American businesses, while at the same time maintaining the highest environmental standards, including the cleanest air and water on the planet," said President-elect Donald Trump in a statement.

La Leche League founder resigns: The nonprofit organization devoted to breastfeeding training and support, which has been around since the 1950s, is being dealt a sharp rebuke from one of its original founders (and current board members). Marian Tompson, now 94, writes that the "organization that has become a travesty of my original intent" and that its "focus has subtly shifted to include men who, for whatever reason, want to have the experience of breastfeeding despite no careful long-term research on male lactation and how that may affect the baby."

Tompson is probably referring to a series of changes the organization has made over the last decade that let transgender people and other so-called "chestfeeders" in, detailed here by Bethany Mandel for The Free Press. The issue first cropped up in 2012, when trans-identifying Trevor McDonald—who was born a woman but identified as a man following giving birth, and had an elective mastectomy as a result—was successful in getting the organization to bend its rules for the sake of inclusion.

To some, the erosion of La Leche League's boundaries may seem like no big deal, or even like progress. But to women who care about maintaining some access to female-only spaces for the sake of learning how to best nurture their children, it feels like a betrayal of the organization's longstanding and quite sacred purpose.

Scenes from New York: The case isn't looking great for Daniel Penny, the 26-year-old Long Islander who is on trial for manslaughter for his role in the subway killing of erratic homeless man Jordan Neely, 30.

On Thursday, the defense asked the judge to rule it a mistrial, claiming that the prosecution was permitted to portray Penny as a "white vigilante" and that they were wrongly allowed a homeless witness, Johnny Grima, to call Penny a "murderer" from the witness stand (when that is not something for which Penny stands legally accused). Judge Maxwell Wiley denied the request but told Penny's lawyers, "I see what you're getting at."

  • The United Nations has thrown its weight behind Hamas' claim that 70 percent of the dead in Gaza are women and children, not militants. "The high number was largely due to Israel's use of weapons with wide-area effects in densely populated areas, although some deaths may have been the result of errant projectiles by Palestinian armed groups," reports the BBC. The U.N. report claims the Israeli military has "an apparent indifference to the death of civilians and the impact of the means and methods of warfare." But many claim the U.N. and their boosters are not telling the truth, and that there are issues with their methodology and analysis.

For anyone worried about misinformation and social media, here is the BBC giving themsleves 14.5 million views on what we call A LIE.

Let's start with the 70% being from a sample of 8,000, 1/5th of the (widely inflated) number that even Hxmxs uses. More details below. https://t.co/B3eXDbQLwc

New York Times reports that Donald J. Trump is set to name Anti-Communist Hardliner Cuban-American Senator Marco Rubio as Secretary of State!

President-elect Donald J. Trump is expected to name Senator Marco Rubio of Florida as his secretary of state, three people familiar with his thinking said on Monday, as Mr. Trump moves rapidly to fill out his foreign policy and national security team.

Can someone red-pill me on Rubio? I've been happy with Trump's picks so far, but I always thought Rubio was uniparty, and his appointment makes me uncomfortable.

When he gets to Arizona, he announces that he has multiple slates of electors, and so is going to defer decision on that until finishing the other States. This would be the first break with the procedure set out in the Act.

                1. Mother's Lament (Salt farmer)   6 months ago

                  “HE THOUGHT IT WAS ILLEGAL.”

That’s not what the memo in your link says, Lying Jeffy Cherrypicking Individualist.

                  1. VP Pence, presiding over the joint session (or Senate Pro Tempore Grassley, if Pence recuses himself), begins to open and count the ballots, starting with Alabama (without conceding that the procedure, specified by the Electoral Count Act, of going through the States alphabetically is required). 2. When he gets to Arizona, he announces that he has multiple slates of electors, and so is going to defer decision on that until finishing the other States. This would be the first break with the procedure set out in the Act. 3. At the end, he announces that because of the ongoing disputes in the 7 States, there are no electors that can be deemed validly appointed in those States. That means the total number of “electors appointed” – the language of the 12th Amendment — is 454. This reading of the 12th Amendment has also been advanced by Harvard Law Professor Laurence Tribe (here). A “majority of the electors appointed” would therefore be 228. There are at this point 232 votes for Trump, 222 votes for Biden. Pence then gavels President Trump as re-elected. 4. Howls, of course, from the Democrats, who now claim, contrary to Tribe’s prior position, that 270 is required. So Pence says, fine. Pursuant to the 12th Amendment, no candidate has achieved the necessary majority. That sends the matter to the House, where the “the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote . . . .” Republicans currently control 26 of the state delegations, the bare majority needed to win that vote. President Trump is re-elected there as well. 5. One last piece. Assuming the Electoral Count Act process is followed and, upon getting the objections to the Arizona slates, the two houses break into their separate chambers, we should not allow the Electoral Count Act constraint on debate to control. That would mean that a prior legislature was determining the rules of the present one — a constitutional no-no (as Tribe has forcefully argued). So someone – Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, etc. – should demand normal rules (which includes the filibuster). That creates a stalemate that would give the state legislatures more time to weigh in to formally support the alternate slate of electors, if they had not already done so. 6. The main thing here is that Pence should do this without asking for permission – either from a vote of the joint session or from the Court. Let the other side challenge his actions in court, where Tribe (who in 2001 conceded the President of the Senate might be in charge of counting the votes) and others who would press a lawsuit would have their past position — that these are non-justiciable political questions – thrown back at them, to get the lawsuit dismissed. The fact is that the Constitution assigns this power to the Vice President as the ultimate arbiter. We should take all of our actions with that in mind.

"HE SAID A BREAK WITH PROCEDURE THOUGH, THAT'S THE SAME AS ILLEGAL"

                  Fucking discount shill.

It's important to note that as of this post, Trump has not confirmed Rubio is the pick on Truth Social, X, or anywhere else.

Frankly, I'm not sure that I believe that it's really Trump's inner circle floating out this trial balloon.

We should all realize by now that the scum at the NYT and all the rest of the legacy media will resort to anything and everything to try and harm Trump and weaken his administration, including blatantly lying through their teeth about who is feeding them information.

I really hope that's true for two reasons:

First, it would mean Rubio is not the actual pick for SoS.
Second, it would mean Trump's team is being smart and not stupid (as it had been in his first term), and weeding out the disloyal traitors in his circle. And doing so from the start, not after much damage has already been done.

      5. Super Scary   6 months ago

The only thing I remember about him is that Trump called him Little Marco.

      6. Red Rocks White Privilege   6 months ago

The thing about Rubio is that he's first and foremost a party man, meaning he'll go along with whatever the prevailing sentiment of the party's voters are demanding. He came in with the Tea Party wave, participated in the Gang of 8 to try and get some clout with the McCain faction that largely dominated the Senate, and then eventually settled into a relatively standard niche as a reliable R vote on bills. But he's someone who's been able to comfortably work with both the populists and the McConnell wing of the party in the Senate.

If Don Jr.'s signing off on this, it's probably to 1) get his name off of consideration as a potential compromise candidate for Majority Leader, since McConnell's trying to torpedo Rick Scott at the moment; and 2) get someone in the Cabinet whom the McConnell faction will be comfortable working with. He's worth keeping an eye on to avoid a Miles Taylor situation, but that's a prestige position and I suspect Rubio's going to be a good boi as far as representing Trump's foreign policy agenda.

        1. Gaear Grimsrud   6 months ago

The one I’m worried about is Noem as Homeland Security director. Noem is an absolute hack who shouldn’t be in charge of a fucking lemonade stand, much less a department responsible for the managing the border and disaster relief. She’s going to get torn to ribbons in Congressional hearings because she can’t think on her feet. DeSantis or Abbott would have been a much better choice.

Red, very surprised to read this. What makes you so down on Kristi?

              1. Red Rocks White Privilege   6 months ago

She’s a media disaster waiting to happen. Look at Grimsrud’s comment–yeah, I understand in rural areas, that’s actually a pretty common thing when you have an aggressive dog that's a potential danger to family members. It’s been going on forever. But after making hay over Peanut and Springfield’s cats, it’s an own-goal to bring on someone who shot a puppy. That’s just the political reality.

Plus, nothing she’s shown in her time in the spotlight gives me any confidence that she’s going to be able to competently manage the border or the constant Congressional hearings and media coverage over it. She refused to prevent males from participating in female sports in South Dakota because she didn’t want to deal with the lawsuits. That tells me she’s a lightweight who’s going to buckle with the slightest bit of media pushback, and force the administration to constantly play defense while Trump is trying to get TdA gangs out of the country. He needs someone to be the anti-Mayorkas, and I don’t think she’s up for the job.

This is two days in a row where I have read in Reason that wanting to maintain economic sanctions against bad actors makes you a “War Hawk”.

I’d love the Reason braintrust to explain their diplomatic tool bag. Or we are to just accept what we get from other countries.

    1. chemjeff radical individualist   6 months ago

Well for starters, if you want to go doctrinaire libertarian, then a state imposing economic sanctions is usurping the liberty of the individual to make his/her own economic choices. If you want to choose to boycott China or whatever, you should have the liberty to do so, but why should the state force everyone to boycott China whether they want to or not?

Plus, there is the practical matter. Do sanctions really work? I am sure Rick James will be along momentarily to gloat about how sanctions on Russia didn't really work. Their aggression against Ukraine continued relatively unabated. So why pursue a policy that doesn't really work? To virtue-signal?

      1. InsaneTrollLogic (Factio Democratica delenda est 5/30/24)   6 months ago

The recall for 1,300 cases containing 79,200 pounds of butter was initiated on Oct. 11 by a wholesaler in Littlefield, Texas due to an undeclared allergen, FDA records show. The allergen in the Kirkland Signature Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter (46,800 pounds) and Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter (32,400 pounds) was milk, the federal agency said.

Useless stats, typical for useless reporting. Elections are won by counts, not percentages. Doesn't even tell you what the Lancaster County percentage was last election. I looked up some stats; Lancaster County has 4.25% of Pennsylvania's population, so their 16% translates to a statewide 0.68%, one third of the entire 2% lead. The Amish are somewhat less than 10%, so it's hard to make a case that they tipped the election. But that's journalism.

How exactly you would build a "Rogan, but for the left"? Who would it be, how would they get big?

Don't we just call them the legacy media?

    1. Social Justice is neither   6 months ago

Rogan for the left would be Joe Rogan. He's generally on the left on most every topic but the marxists running the left's narrative chased him and many others out with their insane worldview and extremism in imposing it on others.

      1. HorseConch   6 months ago

Joe Rogan, Matt Taibbi, and Glenn Greenwald were all very left and quite influential. Maybe not being a bunch of Marxists would help them get guys like that on their side.

        1. R Mac   6 months ago

People that make a living from free speech turned against the party that started attacking free speech. A handful of Reason writers felt comfortable they wouldn’t be effected by such a regime…

Yeah censorship is an article of faith on the left. Can't have a three hour conversation with a smart opinionated person and refuse to let them speak.

            1. HorseConch   6 months ago

There are current complaints floating around on X about how dangerous it will be if there are no factcheckers. How did we make it this far as a society when we went a couple hundred years without having offically coordinated lies in the media?

              1. Earth-based Human Skeptic   6 months ago

To be fair, for most of human history religion provided a "fact-checking" role in order to minimize speech people did not want to hear. Progressives just rediscovered this for their Church of Woke.

I think it's a bit too late for that. The Marxists all went full-blown authoritarian while the Rogans, Taibbis, and Greenwalds of the world wanted to maintain free speech. This happened while the neocons and GOPe like the Cheneys went more authoritarian and the others of us, again, wanted things like free speech. The realignment happened, and we are now on the same side as Rogan, Taibbi, and Greenwald; now opposite the likes of Liz and Dick Cheney, McConnell, Obama, and others.

      2. Earth-based Human Skeptic   6 months ago

Yeah, Rogan is solidly center left. He's just not insane, isn't for gun control and opposes censorship. If today's left wants a Joe Rogan, they first need to stop making censorship one of their core values. Rogan just lets people say what they want to say. The mainstream left today hates that more than anything.

Remember when the left tried to make a radio talk show host to compete with Rush Limbaugh, they flopped. You can't force things they have to come naturally and the left doesn't allow natural since everything must cater to some perceived view. this is also why all the late night tv talk shows are failing.

    4. Quicktown Brix   6 months ago

For some reason, this never seems to work for the left. Talk radio or any kind of discussion format shows seem to lack the audience, maybe because of an inverse correlation between interest in politics and support for the left.

But if you insist on trying, I think Jon Stewart is as close as you can get. He's very left, but often maintains common sense (with a glaring 2A exception) like he did with Colbert about the lab leak. He's funny, passionate and capable of discussion.

Having said that, I've tried Stewart's podcast and didn't like it.

      1. Red Rocks White Privilege   6 months ago

Stewart’s act is the epitome of “applause comedy”–it only works in highly managed environments where everyone can bark along with the jokes like trained seals. He got as huge as he did for two reasons–1) he took over The Daily Show in 1999, right on the cusp of all the craziness and upheaval that’s taken place post-Y2K, and people were looking for someone to try and make sense of all of it; and 2) when he wants to, he’s been good at pulling off that fake “both sides are the problem” act which is just a unity-criticism-unity dialectic in disguise. His smartass New York City urban delivery also made a potent foil for the doofy sincerity of the Bush-era GOP in a post-9/11 world.

But Dubya’s gone and the neocons are all but expunged from the GOP at this point. Post-Daily Show, his AppleTV program bit the dust and his podcast is a ghost town. He failed to do his faux-centrist act in the former and went Full Shitlib, and he doesn’t have the kind of easy conversational style that makes podcasters like Rogan successful, because he’s too didactic and smug. His act is a 2000s-era one that doesn’t transcend time or political realignments, and it shows every time the Daily Show pulls him out of mothballs on Monday.

        1. Red Rocks White Privilege   6 months ago

Case in point with Stewart; this is what he said last night:

I only have one problem with the woke theory… I just didn’t recall seeing any Democrats running on woke s**t,’ the comic said, after playing clips of CNN, Fox News and MSNBC commentators theorizing why Harris lost.

Except they did exactly that, Jon, stating anyone who didn’t vote for Harris was sexist and racist, and even at that, the politicians who side-stepped it knew they couldn’t engage on woke shit, because they’d be immediately branded as liars after the last 10 years of promoting woke shit.

          1. Mickey Rat   6 months ago

The Harris ad campaign that had "the last place women have a right to choose is in the voting booth" was fully critical theory, intersectional , woke notions that women should be a monolithic Democrat voting bloc but for malign forces influencing them. Stewart is gaslighting or does not know anything.

        2. Quicktown Brix   6 months ago

Yes, he’s firmly on the left. That’s why I brought him up here.

he doesn’t have the kind of easy conversational style that makes podcasters like Rogan successful, because he’s too didactic and smug

Yeah, I reckon you’re right about this.

I disagree with your “applause comedy/trained seal” comment though. I think that’s just a rationalization to denigrate comedy you don’t appreciate.

          1. Red Rocks White Privilege   6 months ago

I disagree with your “applause comedy/trained seal” comment though. I think that’s just a rationalization to denigrate comedy you don’t appreciate.

You’re free to have that opinion, but you’re wrong. The only difference between Stewart and the applause comics on Netflix is the scope of their influence over the last generation. Other than that, their acts are virtual clones of each other, especially the Daily Show grads like John Oliver and Samantha Bee.

Yeah, as Chumby pointed out, Rogan (and Tulsi) were Bernie supporters. The consequences of the wokies driving the Dem agenda ended up putting him on "the right" by default, but even in asking the question, these idiots in the media miss the point.

Rogan has an audience largely of 20-30 something straight males who grew up during GWOT, spent their formative years being told by the schools and the mass media that they have Original Sin for being straight males, and have a reflexive distrust of institutions as a result. It's not that they're "anti-government" in the Reaganite sense, because that doesn't exist anymore. They're just rightfully cynical about what "experts" are claiming, since those claims inevitably ended up promoting shitty policies and harmful social interactions.

There's no "Rogan for the left" in that sense because these are guys who were more or less sympathetic to leftist policies, but the general misogyny and social maladaption of the Dems led them to reject the party. That's why younger males keep trending more conservative since Trump was first elected. The Dems have gone out of their way to alienate these voters. The whole question reeks of liberal focus-group obsession.

      1. Mike Parsons   6 months ago

"There’s no “Rogan for the left” "

Theres no Rogan for the left, because the left is frankly a party focused on women's issues. Aside from directly focusing on a bunch of stuff directly related to women, they focus on goals and ideas women value: safety over freedom, nanny state everything, collective guilt for every group, toxic-empathy and femininity.

The guys that reside in the left are low T simps that are over feminized, weak, and lame as fuck. Their Rogan is Chris Hayes, talking about his favorite NYT recipe for shakshuka, what the most culturally respectful vacation trips he can take are, and where all the foodies are eating this weekend, plus maybe how good the newest series of gossip girl is

        1. Red Rocks White Privilege   6 months ago

safety over freedom, nanny state everything, collective guilt for every group, toxic-empathy and femininity.

Collectively, it's based on pathological altruism--the idea that any sort of negative emotion or experience is oppressive. It's why the idea of "gentle parenting" gained so much traction with these types. They actually believe that the American Dream means not having a second of personal struggle, but that's not the American Dream, that's the Marxist Dream.

        2. Red Rocks White Privilege   6 months ago

Their Rogan is Chris Hayes, talking about his favorite NYT recipe for shakshuka, what the most culturally respectful vacation trips he can take are, and where all the foodies are eating this weekend, plus maybe how good the newest series of gossip girl is

The Pod Save America dickheads are already largely filling that niche. They're former Obama officials so they already have media clout, but they're mostly followed by the kind of guys you describe--what were called metrosexuals in the late 90s-2000s. Urban sophisticates who look down on anyone who likes male-centered sports instead of the WNBA, women's soccer, or other women's sports, may not necessarily have a college degree, and likes to barbecue on the weekends while drinking cheap beer. That's Rogan's audience, and these assholes have no fucking clue how to talk to them because they always come off sounding dismissive and superior.

      2. Earth-based Human Skeptic   6 months ago

I would like to think that Rogan's audience, and 20 to 30-something guys in general, mostly don't know or don't care how the progressive left has vilified them. One of the tweets in response to Liz's, re: Joe Rogan

The real problem is that conservatives spent 10 years codifying a new generation of male hobbies as explicitly right-wing. Rogan is a symptom, but it is not even close to the cause. If you want men to come back to the center or to the left you have to start with their interests.

I think this is getting to the heart of the matter. The two teams aren't really political parties anymore, but lifestyle brands. If you're into sports and UFC and car racing, then you're a Republican. If you're into traveling, eating good food, art and culture, then you're a Democrat. It's dumb, because there is no reason why a person can't be both into UFC and a Democrat, or why a person can't be both into arts and culture and be a Republican, but here we are.

No you ignorant marxist cunt, the truth is Leftists like you spent the last 2 generations increasingly calling everything men did "toxic masculinity" and for some reason that is offputting to the target. These things become "rightwing" by rejecting some doctrine of the Left and becoming a target of your hate mobs and refusing to bow down to your insane demands.

      1. chemjeff radical individualist   6 months ago

It's only offputting if you think there's nothing wrong with toxic masculinity, or that 'boys being boys' is a totally acceptable take.

        https://www.webmd.com/sex-relationships/what-is-toxic-masculinity

        Toxic Masculinity Signs
Toxic masculinity is nuanced, but there are a few behaviors that are often caused by toxic masculinity. Some toxic masculinity examples include:

Homophobia. Toxic masculinity teaches men that homosexuality is a deviation from traditional masculinity and that gay men are less masculine. For example, consider the way terms like “gay” and “faggot” were and still are used as insults.
Need for control. Toxic masculinity encourages men to assert their power and dominance. We see this often in domestic relationships. The 2017 report "The Man Box" found that 34% of men in the U.S. believed they should always have the final say in their relationship, and 46% believed that men deserved to know where their girlfriend or wife is at all times.
Promiscuity. Toxic masculinity praises men for having multiple sexual partners while expressing disgust at women who do the same.
Refusing to help with household duties. Toxic masculinity rejects roles traditionally considered “women’s work.” Toxically masculine men often refuse to participate in these household duties. "The Man Box" found that 22% of U.S. men believed they shouldn’t have to do household chores, 44% believed they should be the sole income earners, and 28% believed that boys shouldn’t be taught things like cooking, cleaning, and child care.
Risk-taking. Taking risks and suppressing fear is another feature of toxic masculinity. As a result, men are more likely to abuse drugs, drive dangerously, gamble, and engage in violence.
Sexual aggression toward women. Men who have been influenced by toxic masculinity are more likely to believe they're entitled to women’s bodies, leading to sexual comments and harassment toward women and a higher likelihood of believing rape myths.
Stoicism. A cornerstone idea of toxic masculinity is that showing emotion is weak and feminine. Men are expected to be mentally and physically tough without breaking. Statistics and studies show that men are less likely to pursue mental health services like therapy despite being 1.8 times more likely than women to commit suicide.
Violence. Toxic masculinity encourages men to use aggression and violence to assert their dominance and masculinity. "The Man Box" report found that 23% of U.S. men believed that, if needed, men should use violence to get respect.

I am not sure if I agree with everything on that list, but it is certainly not the same as "everything guys do".

That's the femtard/leftist take, but it's a load of crap and shouldn't be taken seriously. Anyone who thinks boys roughhousing, or staring at an attractive woman, is an asshole thing to do has serious mental problems.

I'm sure you thought the rather benign Gilette commercials from the early 90s exemplified "toxic masculinity," but anyone who actually believes that is a moron.

How come people aren't talking more about toxic femininity?
There certainly are some stereotypical masculine behaviors which can be pretty negative. But it's not as if the feminine couterpart doesn't exist.
And what is toxic about risk taking and stoicism? Those seem like valuable and useful personality traits in most cases.

        7. Jefferson Paul   6 months ago

Promiscuity. Toxic masculinity praises men for having multiple sexual partners while expressing disgust at women who do the same.

I don't think promiscuity is good for anyone, as it lessens the ability to pair bond with whomever you wind up staying with or marrying.

That being said, this is a stupid complaint (that men are praised for having multiple partners while women who do so receive disdain). A man who can get that many women in bed has to have incredible "game" or be a celebrity or pro athlete.

An average guy can't do that. He's not going to be able to score a new girl each night.

An average woman can absolutely get a new guy to sleep with her each night. Hell, a below average woman probably can. There is no accomplishment to an average woman doing this though. Put an average guy on a street corner with a sign saying he'll have sex with any woman who wants to and compare the results to an average woman with a sign saying she'll fuck any guy who approaches her. I don't think you're going to see similar numbers of takers.

A strained analogy would be if a random woman were provided unlimited food and couldn't stop herself from eating herself into obesity. A random man isn't provided any food and has to go out hunting and farming to provide himself more than enough but overindulges and also becomes obese. Neither one should be praised for becoming obese, but the woman who did nothing to produce the food and just ate deserves more scorn, IMO.

The discussion will entail labeling all Hispanics that have European heritage, as white (or at best, as they have with Asians, white adjacent) and therefore no longer worthy of consideration except as racists. Of course many of us have been pointing out for years that labeling Hispanics as a race is just asinine because, at the time of the founding of America, the Spanish imperial holdings in the Americas were the most racially diverse places on Earth. Mexico City had representative communities from all corners of the planet. They had a very large East Asian community and Jewish community, in addition to African, Amerindian, Caribbean, even some Polynesian and Micronesians, and even some from the Middle East. And no not all the Africans were slaves (or black for that matter). One of the largest European ancestry, besides Spanish, in Mexico is Irish. There is a huge German community in both Brazil (a Portuguese colony) and Argentina (both of which pre-date the world wars). Large Basque communities through central and south America. Hell, even some Confederates moved to Brazil after the Civil War. In many ways, Central and South America remain the most diverse, ethnically, part of the World. There's quite a few of Argentinian, Brazilians and Mexicans with red or blonde hair, pale skin and green or blue eyes.

This was a local race back then…so I got quite a few examples.

They call themselves “progressives” and “anti-racists”, they called Georgia’s updated voting laws Jim Crow 2.0.

In reality, they are base human beings, simply filled with venom and racist vitriol to be turned on anyone with whom they disagree.

Here’s a smattering of things that MSNC hosts, Washington Post and The Nation writers, and other candidates for office have said about Herschel Walker, who is running for a Senate seat to represent Georgia (against incumbent Raphael Warnock).

Imagine for one second if Fox News or the WSJ had written these statements about Mr. Warnock.

“Herschel Walker’s candidacy is a white insult to Black people.”

“Walker is what they think of us, and they think we’re big, ignorant, and easily manipulated. They think we’re shady or criminal. They think we’re tools to be used. The Walker campaign exists as a political minstrel show: a splashy rendition of what white Republicans think Black people look and sound like.”

“I make a hard distinction between Black conservatives and these tokens” – referring to Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) and Walker – “who are out here right now, shucking and jiving for their white handlers.”

“Walker has positioned himself into being a useful fool for those who don’t have the best interests of Black people or this democracy at heart.”

“[Herschel Walker’s] irrelevant to the Black community, and we should treat him as such.”

“Herschel Walker, the football star turned Georgia Senate candidate, is an animated caricature of a Black person drawn by white conservatives.”

“Most white people in the South vote ‘R’ like their entire white supremacist project depends on it.”

“Georgia Republicans want Walker because he’s Black and Warnock is Black, and they think they can defeat Warnock in November if they can shave just a little of the Black vote…”

“Mr. Walker was merely a vessel for the G.O.P. and Mr. Trump’s ambitions.”

“He’s a puppet on a string, and somebody’s pulling those strings really good.”

          1. Medulla Oblongata   6 months ago

            [Same time frame as above]

Not to be outdone in using racist attacks against blacks, the Democrats seem intent on racist attacks on Hispanics, too.

Democratic lawmakers and liberal media outlets alike have responded to the Republican Party’s gains with Latino voters by attacking Hispanic Republicans. Flores’s opponent in November, Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D., Texas), argued in June that he is more qualified than Flores because he “wasn’t born in Mexico.” Weeks later, Arizona representative Rubén Gallego (D.) said a female Hispanic Republican running for Congress in the state was not sufficiently Latina because she took her husband’s last name.

The New York Times, meanwhile, said Flores’s win marked the “Rise of the Far-Right Latina,” citing the Republican’s support for religiosity, strong borders, and traditional values. A Texas political blog that has received campaign funds from Gonzalez also attacked Flores last month, referring to the congresswoman as “Miss Frijoles,” “Miss Enchiladas,” and a “cotton pickin’ liar.”

“Who does this Mayra Flores think she is? Somebody said she was crowned Miss Frijoles 2022 in San Benito,” Texas political blogger Jerry McHale, who has received $1,200 from Gonzalez’s campaign, wrote on July 2. “She isn’t in congressman Vicente Gonzalez’s league. She isn’t even in the bush leagues unless she doesn’t shave her p**sy.”

FDA forces Costco butter recall for dangerous ingredients... milk.

    https://www.foodandwine.com/costco-kirkland-signature-butter-recall-8742337

On November 7, the FDA classified the recall as Class II, which means it is "a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote."

The recalled products, which were both produced and distributed in Texas, includes 1,300 cases, (amounting to about 46,800 pounds) of Kirkland Signature Unsalted Sweet Cream Butter, and 900 cases (amounting to 32,400 pounds) of Kirkland Signature Salted Sweet Cream Butter. The products all come with "best by" dates between February 22, 2025 and March 29, 2025.

    WHAT THIS MEANS:
No matter which state you’re in, if you’ve got your concealed carry license, each state will still have to honor it - for example, you have a Florida concealed carry permit - California would have to honor it.

If you would have actually read your link you would have seen the utter contempt Bourdain has for people like you:

:The utter contempt with which privileged Eastern liberals such as myself discuss red-state, gun-country, working-class America as ridiculous and morons and rubes is largely responsible for the upswell of rage and contempt and desire to pull down the temple that we’re seeing now.

I’ve spent a lot of time in gun-country, God-fearing America. There are a hell of a lot of nice people out there, who are doing what everyone else in this world is trying to do: the best they can to get by, and take care of themselves and the people they love. When we deny them their basic humanity and legitimacy of their views, however different they may be than ours, when we mock them at every turn, and treat them with contempt, we do no one any good. Nothing nauseates me more than preaching to the converted. The self-congratulatory tone of the privileged left—just repeating and repeating and repeating the outrages of the opposition—this does not win hearts and minds. It doesn’t change anyone’s opinions. It only solidifies them, and makes things worse for all of us. “

        ^ this here.

Ill push back on cooking a little bit, as Chef's (and the best ones) have historically been dudes. Women might in general cook more casseroles and one pot meals in the world, but the masters of the craft are often dudes, and that's fine by me.

But in general, you are correct. The shit that white guys for Harris are into, is basically chick stuff or stuff they have co-opted.

In the mainstream world, its going to fancy brunch, eating, traveling, and artsy fartsy stuff.

In the 'nerdy' world, its shit that chicks have co-opted. Disney star wars, modern D&D, the standard CW style made for chicks slop that has a veneer of nerd/scifi because mega companies sold out to left wing actors. Stuff that used to be almost entirely enjoyed by neckbeards in their basement, now is firmly under the control of pronouns-in-bio gender confused hair-colored, mentally ill women and white dudes for HArris

        1. chemjeff radical individualist   6 months ago

^ part of the problem here, trying to classify hobbies as 'dude hobbies' or 'chick hobbies'

          1. Randy Sax   6 months ago

You don't really have to "try" to classify certain hobbies. More women are into yoga - fact. More men are into guns - fact.

            1. chemjeff radical individualist   6 months ago

If a man likes yoga, is that man now less 'manly'? If a woman likes shooting guns, is that woman less of a 'chick'? THAT is the problem here, that one's choice of hobbies has a direct bearing on one's personal gender identity.

I have often speculated that Jeffy was bullied as a kid and assured by an over-protective mother that the bullying was because he was special and the kids were jealous when it was really because he behaved oddly and the other kids didn't like to be around him. He certainly projects that kind of creeper vibe in his posts.

THAT is the problem here, that one’s choice of hobbies has a direct bearing on one’s personal gender identity.

The fuck are you talking about? I genuinely don't understand. A man can be into yoga, it doesn't necessarily make him less manly. Yoga is still a chick hobby because the vast majority of participants are women.

THAT is the problem here, that one’s choice of hobbies has a direct bearing on one’s personal gender identity. Not at ALL. Worst take I have seen in a while.

                1. Earth-based Human Skeptic   6 months ago

Yeah, but some hobbies are central to some people's lives. And making yoga, especially the spiritual dimension, central to your life is probably more feminine than masculine.

Agreed that it is more feminine, but some some dreadlocked hippie douche being super into yoga and fucking all the chicks he brainwashes does not make him less of “a man”.

Dudes dont in general join knitting circles. Unless they are effeminate or gay. Thats just how it is.

Chicks dont in general enjoy spending their time talking about UFC/WWE. That's just how it is.

              1. chemjeff radical individualist   6 months ago

Yes we know. There are strict gender roles that we are all bound to obey, for fear of social ostracism. Certain activities aren't considered more masculine or feminine because someone decided that's how it should be. It's because on average men and women have different interests and preferences.

Jeffy is flailing. Cooking steaks (the best food that exists) is as right-coded as it gets. Ditto for eating steak, brisket, ribs, etc. Ditto for travelling for adventure.

I see, largely the "enlightened, educated" things that all the brutish, unenlightened cretins cannot appreciate because they are too poor and stupid.

I like to cook and eat good food (Mrs Oblongatta appreciates it when I "chef things up"). I can spatchcock a chicken and make my ow pizza dough. I have traveled internationally (Rome, Paris, Amsterdam...) when I was younger, but prefer to stay at home these days.

But I like also like art, classical music. I also have an advanced degree (MS), read voraciously. OTOH, I watch a lot of college football & basketball, drink beer and bourbon, hunt & fish on occasion. I like to use my chainsaw in my woods to cut firewood, that I split with a maul to help heat our house in the colder months. Mowing the fields with the tractor is also somewhat enjoyable zen time.

      1. Roberta   6 months ago

I usually make my own pizza dough, but yesterday to use up some stuff I had around, I tried something different: I made pizza from batter with flour, water, baking soda, jarred marinara sauce, dried oregano, green peppers and sweet Italian sausage that I pre-microwaved and cut up. This I baked like cake in a buttered and floured pan until dry but slightly under-done. Then I topped it with thin slices of yellow squash , shredded mozzarella, and shredded Mexican blend cheese before baking again. I liked eating the product. Different from my usual process, but much faster and easier.

      2. R Mac   6 months ago

I don’t have an advance degree, although I do have a lot of post bachelors education, Mrs. Mac does the baking in our house so she makes the dough, and it’s Rome (and Sicily which is far more different from Rome than I thought it would be), Edinburgh, Frankfurt (highly recommend the on-off riverboat tickets down the Rhine for a couple days) and Dublin, and I don’t have a tractor. Otherwise same here.

Does the not baking cancel out the tractor or does otherwise liking to cook make me more left wing than you by Lying Jeffy’s classification?

        1. rbike   6 months ago

          I just wish I had a tractor. Just can't justify i.

        “American football”

        This is code for something…

        1. Roberta   6 months ago

It's code for knowing there's a lot of types of football. Also helps immunize against soccer hegemonists who say, "I thought you meant real football." But notice that ruggers have by and large stopped referring to that game as "rugby football".

          1. Chumby   6 months ago

Where does Australian rules football intersect with this?

            1. Roberta   6 months ago

It's a type of football, like it says. The coach in me thinks it and its sister game Gaelic football are the least interesting common versions of football, but they count. There are even versions of football without that word in their name: speedball and speed-a-way.

          2. Jefferson Paul   6 months ago

            Related:

I always find it amusing when a Brit gets butthurt about Americans calling soccer "soccer." Where do they think we got that name for it? It came from Britain when they were just starting to have leagues and a consensus rulebook, called "association football." Association got shortened to "soc" and people played "soccer."

            1. Roberta   6 months ago

And a lot of them don't realize it was commonly called that in Britain until this generation, and that it's also called that in other English-speaking countries and even in such non-English-speaking countries as Japan (where the word for it sounds like "socka"). It does bother me a bit that rugby organizations, both Union and League, just seemed to roll over in dropping the word "football" from their names over the past half century — although it's said by some that they wanted to distance themselves from association (heh) with soccer.

"How exactly you would build a "Rogan, but for the left"? Who would it be, how would they get big?"

You don't. The left tried for many years to create a left's Rush Limbaugh and failed, failed, failed. Indeed, they failed to create much success at all in left-facing talk radio. Just seems to be almost no market for it, given the market-flooding presence of general leftist ABC, NBC, CBS, NYT, WaPo...creating niche talk shows about leftist stuff seems superfluous and never seems to get traction.

I wonder how many people actually watch Rachel Maddow vs simply tuning their TVs to that channel at the designated time just in case one of their comrades should visit or call ("Oh, nothing, I'm just watching Rachel Maddow...") and the proper virtue signals can be conveyed. Kinda like how you had to have a picture of Lenin on your tenement wall in Soviet Russia, just in case...

    1. Bertram Guilfoyle   6 months ago

he left tried for many years to create a left’s Rush Limbaugh

The daily show guy is about the closest thing; although there is no way he could have survived on radio. It seems to me the leftists have to have a brain-dead audience in the room, like seals to laugh and clap at the applause sign. They don't lend themselves well to the talk radio format with callers who can challenge their bullshit in real time.

        1. Bertram Guilfoyle   6 months ago

One rightward shift that Rogan has made in recent years is toward guns and gun ownership; I suspect due to the influence of Taran Butler. I don't recall him being into that 10-15 years ago.

    4. Roberta   6 months ago

These things don't come about by trying. The "left" has, however, had some great radio talk hosts like Malachy McCourt and Lyn Samuels. But deliberately trying to do such a thing to produce something "left" or "right" results in pap like Sean Hannity.

“They” crashed the British pound? Such ignorance.

Stupidity like this is why Open Society fired you.

          https://www.investopedia.com/ask/answers/08/george-soros-bank-of-england.asp

"Soros used his hedge fund, Quantum Fund, to borrow billions of pounds from various banks and sell them for other currencies, such as German marks or U.S. dollars.

This created a huge demand for other currencies and a huge supply of pounds, which drove down the value of the pound in the market. Soros also used derivatives, such as options and futures contracts, to amplify his bets and increase his leverage.

The British government and the Bank of England tried to stabilize their currency by raising their interest rates and buying back pounds from the market. On Sept. 16, 1992, they announced that they would raise their interest rates to 12% from 10%, and then again to 15%, to attract investors to buy pounds and support their exchange rate.

They also spent billions of pounds from their foreign exchange reserves to buy back pounds from speculators like Soros.

However, these measures weren't enough to counteract the massive selling pressure from Soros and other shorts. The market, moreover, did not believe that Britain could sustain such high interest rates for long without damaging its domestic economy. Britain’s foreign exchange reserves were limited and running out fast.

Behind the scene, Germany was also trying to help keep the pound in the ERM. German officials made public statements that realignment within the ERM might be possible in mid-September, Yet, in response to these comments by German officials, Soros decided to increase the size of his bet massively. He moved to a massive $10 billion position from $1.5 billion in the middle of September.

Because of his key role in Black Wednesday, George Soros is known for "breaking the Bank of England."

As a result, the pound plunged in value by about 15% against the mark and 25% against the dollar. Soros made about $1 billion in profit as a result of his successful action against the pound.

There is nothing unusual about the demographics of death in Gaza. In all bombing/artillery attacks in urban areas the dead are equivalent to the demographics of the entire population. Only when the casualties are gunshot do the casualties become mostly adult male. Gaza is almost entirely a video game 'war' not anything face to face that might deliver PTSD.

The Israeli doctrine in this ‘war’, called the Dahiya doctrine, is to use the free unlimited bombs they get from the US to bomb the civilian population. Not carpet bombing but rather feeding high acceptance of civilian casualties – explicitly 800,000 in the event all the expected 40,000 Hamas soldiers are killed – into an AI model that generates as many targets as the US sends bombs.- And then every few weeks have a ‘US’ diplomat present terms of surrender while calling it a ceasefire to the world. The Israeli army has done very little fighting itself – in Gaza or Lebanon. As can be seen from IDF soldiers tiktoks. The US is doing the genocide. The IDF is prancing around in women’s underwear documenting war crimes.

The 44,000 deaths being recorded and cited in Gaza are entirely military violence deaths where the body makes it to hospital or a morgue. The real number is significantly higher. Not included at all is the current slaughter in North Gaza or the deaths by starvation, epidemic, and the other effects of the deliberate destruction of hospitals – which is now well over 100,000 and probably closer to 200,000.

Did you know that the 13A which abolished slavery specifically exempts people who committed crimes? Prison labor is a big business in this country. Most prisoners get paid pennies an hour, and some get paid nothing at all. And they're exempt from workplace laws as well, as in safety standards do not apply. That’s right. We still have slavery in this country, and it’s perfectly legal. You can find products made with American slave labor on the shelves of fine stores everywhere, including Kroker, Target and Whole Foods.

You must be eating Jesse’s stupid pills. I said nothing of the sort. I’m trying to figure out the Trump defender’s hierarchy of hatred. It’s similar to the progressive hierarchy of victimhood, except it’s who to attack first. Democrats are obviously at the top, with illegals a close second. Anything goes when attacking those subhumans. But after that it gets murky. If Chinese enslave Muslims then that’s bad. That must mean China is higher on the hierarchy of hatred than Muslims. If Muslims enslaved Chinese would that be ok?

    https://civildeadline.com/former-harris-communications-director-discusses-harris

“There’s one promise left that he could fulfill,” Simmons declared. “He could resign the presidency in the next 30 days, make Kamala Harris president of the United States.”

Simmons took his argument to social media, posting on X (formerly Twitter) that Biden’s resignation would accomplish two things: Harris would become the first female president, and it would set a precedent that could pave the way for future women in the race to the White House. “Joe Biden has been amazing but he should fulfill one last promise — to be transitional.

Biden should resign and make Kamala Harris the first woman president. It’d turn tables on Trump, keep Kamala from presiding over Jan 6, make it easier for next woman to run,” Simmons tweeted.

Simmons continued, framing his suggestion as a way for Biden to elevate Harris to the presidency while also sparing her from presiding over Congress on January 6, when the legislative branch would officially certify her electoral loss. According to Simmons, such a move would signal a bold shift for the Democratic Party, showcasing transparency, change, and a willingness to “do things the public wants to see.”

Really just the ultimate master class in virtue signaling. Not earning her way in, or anyone thinking she has the capability at all, but someone stepping in and handing it to her bc unfair. Its DEI virtue signaling embodied.

        Do those women have vaginas?

        Vagina = earned it.

        Don't you even post-modern feminism?

      2. Eeyore   6 months ago

If I was Trump I would declare in my first week in office that I identify as a woman. We have now had our first female president. You can't deny someone's truth. The next week I would announce that I now identify as a male. It is too late to have a different first female president, because Trump was now our first female president.

Somebody reads through the Reason comments. I made that exact suggestion for the exact same reasons last week. They won't do it because it makes too much sense.

Or one could say we got that out of the way, no need to keep harping on it. And did Twitter change it's name or something?

  53. Bill Dalasio   6 months ago

How exactly you would build a "Rogan, but for the left"?

First, of things you've tweeted, this might be one of the things I've least objected to.

That said, The left had a Rogan, but for the left - Joe Rogan. The guy voted for Bernie Sanders. The problem for the left is that the very things that make Joe Rogan successful, taking a genuine interest in what even people who disagree with him might have to say, admitting limitations to his knowledge, and assuming people are speaking in good faith, are the very things that make the institutional left see as making him not a Rogan, but for the left.

What they want is something they really can't have. They want a podcaster with Rogan's degree of influence and success while still being a hack who's going to regurgitate the Party's talking points and enforce message discipline. The latter precludes the former.

As mentioned above, they had that in Jon Stewart, but he's washed up and has no clout in the new media formats because his style doesn't translate well there, just as Rogan doing a Daily Show type of program would inevitably flop.

"Trump has vowed to ease the regulatory burden on crypto and create a reserve to hold the nation's bitcoin supply. Congress will soon be full of lawmakers—young and old—who believe cryptocurrency is a unique asset class that shouldn't be regulated like stocks and bonds," reports the Wall Street Journal.

    This is fantastic.

    1. I, Woodchipper   6 months ago

this will be one of Trump's secret weapons for a successful term. In his first term, he dropped corporate taxation rates from 35 to 21 and I immediately knew he'd have a great term. This is one of those things.

    2. Its_Not_Inevitable   6 months ago

Deregulation, yes. U.S. government holding it as a reserve, not so much. It's far too volatile.

These are things libertarians are supposed to oppose?

    1. But SkyNet is a Private Company   6 months ago

      Stop already, I’m already sold!

    2. Gaear Grimsrud   6 months ago

Yeah I don't see a problem here. I think the term "hawkish" is misplaced here unless he wants a war with china. The Koch libertarians can't get their brains around the fact that Trump prefers economic pressure to war. Definitely the lesser of evils in my view.

    3. Social Justice is neither   6 months ago

Reason libertarians are apparently pro human rights abuses, who knew.

    One by one:

    - government pressure seems like the appropriate way to try and get them to stop that. And as 2020 showed us, it’s pretty important that we find a way to not be over dependent on global supply chains.
    - Not a fan of sanctions, just maybe don’t give them free money?
    - SLD: let’s not be giving away money to anybody. But fuck Hamas, they ARE 100% responsible.

Squatters allegedly take over Colorado home of elderly man with dementia, start ‘mushroom growing operation’ inside: ‘This isn’t their first rodeo’

    https://nypost.com/2024/10/22/us-news/squatters-take-over-colorado-home-of-elderly-man-with-dementia/

The daughters of a Colorado Springs couple are alleging that a homeless woman, her boyfriend and her son have taken advantage of their father, who suffers from dementia, and taken over their parents’ house of 50 years.

William Towns, 76, met the woman while he was out walking his dog and saw that she was living out of her car, his daughters wrote in a GoFundMe initiative for legal expenses. His wife, Arlene, was staying with one of her daughters while she recovered from major heart surgery.

“[The homeless woman] offered to do some household chores for him, to which he agreed. Chores turned into using his shower on occasion and then sleeping in a guest room of his home for what he understood to only be a number of days,” Towns’ daughters wrote.

But the woman “quickly took advantage” of the man, moving two non-working automobiles, many of her belongings, her 15-year-old son, her boyfriend and her cat into the house.

The Colorado Springs Police Department told Fox 21 that because the alleged squatters were invited inside, it is not trespassing, evictions are handled by the Sheriff’s Office, and that the case will likely require a court order, judge’s decision, and enforcement by El Paso County.

“From a legal perspective, the key here is the permission – if the people were not invited into the home, they’d be squatters, they’d be trespassing, and you could go directly to law enforcement,” real estate litigator Kevin Hughes, a partner at California-based Foundation Law Group, told Fox News Digital. “You still would have to go ultimately through the legal eviction process… they have rights and they have rights to due process.

“What you would need to do, you should engage an eviction lawyer. You’re going to need ultimately to write a letter, give them clear notice, and demand that any tenancy rights they have are hereby terminated, and they have to leave by this specific date. That’s the start of the process.”

If the interlopers don’t leave by that point, Hughes said, the couple can file an eviction complaint. After another 30 to 45 days, a judge may give sheriff’s deputies an order that would allow them to remove the unwanted family.

“The reality is you probably have these people staying under your roof for a couple of months, even after you start this process with that notice letter,” Hughes said.

    1. Red Rocks White Privilege   6 months ago

This is going to sound harsh, but here's an idea--maybe take on the responsibility of caring for your parents, especially if they have fucking dementia, in the last 10-20 years of their life like they took care of your dumb ass the first 20 years of yours, instead of leaving them to their own devices. Or start talking to senior homes about costs and get them into one you can afford.

This idea that parents should die alone in the house they bought 50 years ago is a thoroughly post-modern one that hasn't been practiced by most societies through all of human history.

What are the left-coded dude hobbies and obsessions? I can think of a million right-coded ones––weed

Uh Liz, weed is totally a left wing hobby/lifestyle.

More specific to your question though the left doesn’t have other hobbies because politics is their hobby. Further they’ve grown it into such a comprehensive program they don’t have time for anything else.

I'm certainly not happy about the death. But, yeah, if you don't want that, don't start a war in a densely populated place. War sucks. But when you're in it, you're in it.

This has literally been the story since go.

      1- they started it

      2- they hide among civilians

3- the median (mean? I forget) age is like 15. Its a country of child terrorists who are trained from birth to hate and kill jews. So when a 17 year old with an AK in his arms shooting at jews dies, its a "tragic child death" per the UN and gaza ministry

      1. Zeb   6 months ago

Another good point. If children means under 18, then there are definitely a lot of children who are also combatants.

"You cannot qualify war in harsher terms than I will. War is cruelty, and you cannot refine it; and those who brought war into our Country deserve all the curses and maledictions a people can pour out.

"Three years ago by a little reflection and patience they could have had a hundred years of peace and prosperity, but they preferred war; very well.

"War is the remedy our enemies have chosen. Other simple remedies were within their choice. You know it and they know it, but they wanted war, and I say let us give them all they want; not a word of argument, not a sign of let up, no cave in till we are whipped or they are.

"You might as well appeal against the thunder-storm as against these terrible hardships of war. They are inevitable, and the only way the people of Atlanta can hope once more to live in peace and quiet at home, is to stop the war, which can only be done by admitting that it began in error and is perpetuated in pride.

"I confess without shame that I am tired & sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. Even success, the most brilliant is over dead and mangled bodies […] It is only those who have not heard a shot, nor heard the shrills & groans of the wounded & lacerated (friend or foe) that cry aloud for more blood & more vengeance, more desolation & so help me God as a man & soldier I will not strike a foe who stands unarmed & submissive before me but will say ‘Go sin no more.’

But Trump is the one who will use the power of the federal government against his enemies…

    https://hotair.com/david-strom/2024/11/12/fired-fema-official-not-helping-trump-voters-was-fema-policy-in-north-carolina-too-n3796922

Avoiding helping Trump supporters was a nationwide policy, according to the woman who was fired for putting it in writing.

The FEMA official who was just fired for telling workers to avoid homes impacted by the hurricanes in Florida if they had Trump signs says that it was not "isolated" and that FEMA workers were instructed to do it in the Carolinas too.

It’s another “Trump conspiracy theory” smugly fact-checked as “False”, but which turned out to be true?

Can you believe this shit? If true (big if), that would really suck if senior people in DC were instructing field staff to discriminate, based on political speech or affiliation.

Loss of employment for the DC people who directed that is not enough. There have to be criminal prosecutions.
