Can Latinos Stomach Harris?

Kamala Harris | Tom Williams/CQ Roll Call/Newscom
(Tom Williams/CQ Roll Call/Newscom)

Anyone's game: Right now, the race looks extremely close. Kamala Harris has changed course a bit in the last two weeks, choosing to get herself out there a bit more, but via aggressively normie formats instead of traditional media spots: The View, The Howard Stern Show, the absolutely terrible millennial/Gen Z podcast Call Her Daddy, and possibly the worst of all: sharing a Miller High Life with Stephen Colbert. Harris has a narrow lead in Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Georgia; Trump is leading in Nevada, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. Pew finds that Harris is the favorite of 48 percent of registered voters, while Trump has won over 47 percent. The New York Times notes that her fundraising haul has far outpaced his.

None of this is to say that Harris is a good candidate or that I want to spend a single minute of my short time on God's green Earth listening to mid-L.A. millennials yas kweening Harris on abortion rights; it's just to say that she's performing decently well in this last stretch. But she has one major liability: her inability to win over Latino voters.

In a Univision town hall last night, Harris tried to pitch her border approach and solutions for bringing the cost of living down. Her cheerleaders over at NPR called this "show[ing] empathy with Latino voters" and talked, in fawning terms, about how she "laid out her economic plans—such as expanding the child tax credit and tax breaks for first-time home buyers—sprinkling in her own life experiences as the daughter of a single parent." Politico was a little more critical, noting that Harris actually didn't "offer up any specific policies for Dreamers" whose immigration status is tenuous by nature of how they arrived here.

In Nevada, something like one in five voters are Hispanic; in Arizona, it's more like one in four. Though both states went for Joe Biden last time around, Trump has been quickly gaining support with Latino men under 50, and specifically with third- and even fourth-generation Latino and Hispanic voters. "Support for Democratic presidential candidates among this group has been declining each cycle," notes Politico. "Biden earned 61 percent of the Latino in 2020, Hillary Clinton carried 66 percent of this demographic in 2016 and Barack Obama won more than 70 percent of it in 2012." Now, polls show Harris has 54 percent of registered Latino voters' support compared with Trump's 40 percent. (I always find the use of such broad categories to be somewhat distasteful, especially when you have a term like Latino that could classify a recent immigrant escaping Nicolás Maduro's Venezuela or a third-generation secular Mexican American, but polling relies on such grouping.)

"The chances of a Trump win in the Electoral College are about even," writes Nate Silver on his Substack, where he details the sources of some Democrat poll panic this week: dawning recognition that the election is nearing, uncertainty about the situation in the Middle East and how the hurricane recovery efforts will hurt voting, and a fear that Harris isn't performing as well in her media blitz as they might like. Harris' win probability, according to Silver's forecasts, went down a bit in both Wisconsin and Michigan, but broadly speaking, the overall state of the race is unlikely to change drastically in the last few weeks.

In other words: It's pretty neck and neck, and Harris will continue to have a bit of a problem in Arizona and Nevada, despite her best efforts to pander on Univision.

Scenes from New York: No, it's really not.

Let's be clear. Allowing Trump to hold an event at MSG is equivalent to the infamous Nazis rally at Madison Square Garden on February 20, 1939 2/3

QUICK HITS

  • "Former president Donald Trump is accusing CBS News of 'election interference' after the network edited 2024 rival Kamala Harris's meandering answer to a question about Israel during a recent 60 Minutes interview," reports National Review. "When CBS aired the full version of the interview on Monday, Trump called out the network. He accused 60 Minutes of either cutting out portions of the vice president's long-winded response, or even splicing in another answer that she had given elsewhere in the interview." Twitter users have posted side-by-sides of Harris' meandering answer, which aired in a preview on Face the Nation, and her possibly edited answer, present in the 60 Minutes interview itself. CBS has not released a transcript and the Harris campaign demurred on answering the question of whether the clip was edited to spare Harris embarrassment.
  • Elon Musk "unveiled a slick two-seat sedan called Cybercab late Thursday, saying production may start in 2026 and that the vehicle could cost less than $30,000," reports Bloomberg. Cybercabs are fully autonomous, with no steering capabilities.
  • AI-enabled search of your own personal photo album will soon be available, basically allowing you to query and retrieve personalized information about what you specifically did in a given time period or at a given place (i.e., "What parties did I attend in 2021?")
  • I am worried about the pheasant hunting. I thought we didn't give vice presidents guns anymore?

  • Seriously, who is the they? Strange theories have abounded as to Hurricanes Helene and Milton being sent by the malevolent forces, but the who-is-doing-what part is never explained.

Yes they can control the weather.

It's ridiculous for anyone to lie and say it can't be done.

— Marjorie Taylor Greene ???????? (@mtgreenee) October 4, 2024

  • An absolutely crazy tale of how government intervention is making life worse for Uber and Lyft drivers and more expensive for the companies (though that's not exactly the framing of the piece).
  • I don't think that this is correct. I think the upper middle class—and also the middle class, and also poor people—don't want anti-social behaviors run amok; there's a difference. (And public transit is paid for by the taxpayers, so they ought to be able to use it without being harmed or harassed.)

The upper middle class yearns for public transit but without poor people https://t.co/P7Q6YDufi4

    Can Latinos Stomach Harris?

    You mean Latinx?

    1. Minadin   8 months ago

      No, and no we cannot.

Latinx is one of the reasons. Culturally one of the most tone-deaf things that has come out of the progressive Left, and that’s saying something.

      1. Fist of Etiquette   8 months ago

They can’t possibly still be using Latinx. Their bubble can’t be that impenetrable.

        1. Minadin   8 months ago

Some of them tried to correct their Spanish-unpronounceable error by switching to ‘Latine’, without realizing the full scope of the original objection.

          1. mad.casual   8 months ago

without realizing the full scope of the original objection.

You’re being generous. Their MO is to play stupid and deliberately miss the point in order to torture you.

Trump/Vance talks about Haitians eating pets and the rebuttal is a thorough fact checking of ‘Haitians’ and ‘Pets’. Harris talks about women bleeding out in parking lots and everyone searches everywhere for a pregnant woman mistreated by doctors and the best we find is a woman who died of sepsis in a hospital bed while doctors tried to save her after taking abortion pills and a woman who was, supposedly, told she would have to bleed out in a parking lot but wound up getting treated and is just fine.

Your issue is never the issue. Their issue isn’t the issue. Their issue is to distract you from their lust for more power and control.

            1. Mother's Lament   8 months ago

“Their issue is to distract you from their lust for more power and control.”

The political zeitgeist since Clinton/Bush. It was there before of course, but it wasn’t the only feature.

              1. Earth-based Human Skeptic   8 months ago

Yeah, but Obabiderris made it work.

        2. Square = Circle   8 months ago

They can’t possibly still be using Latinx.

          They are. With zealous righteousness.

Their bubble can’t be that impenetrable.

          It is.

      2. Mike Parsons   8 months ago

Terms like LatinX, and continually assuming that American latino voters who live here legally are solely, myopically focused on how we can get more illegal immigration, is precisely the white saviorism actual racism that turns off (legal) latinos to democrats.

        1. Ron   8 months ago

The continued racist assumption that latinos are for illegal immigration because of the other baseless racist belief that all illegals are Latinos when everyone including latinos can see that most illegals now are from other continents or the criminal illegals they left their home country to get a way from in the first place

          1. mad.casual   8 months ago

There’s also the similar, as indicated above, ‘play retarded enough and people will see you as insulting, retarded, or both’ aspect.

Even if you no-speaka, just like blacks being unable to obtain ID at their local DMV, immigrants are going to see things like community centers being overrun by immigrants, Haitians killing ducks in the park, and Palestinian protestors occupying buildings at institutions of higher learning that are funded on the backs of laborers who don’t take out student loans. Then, “suddenly”, that shining city on the hill with a forever-green central park looks a lot like a place where vagrants kill feral dogs for food.

And you’d have to be insanely retarded to think that just because people don’t speak the language, they don’t see it happening or get tripped up by retarded ‘They weren’t *pets*.’ rhetoric.

        2. Medulla Oblongata   8 months ago

I had a neighbor who was a legal immigrant from a South American country. I learned that he really didn’t like illegal aliens. After everything it took for him to immigrate here legally with his family, illegals being able to waltz in and start fucking up his new country like they fucked up the old one he left pissed him off.

          1. soldiermedic76   8 months ago

Ask a Filipino immigrant what they think, if you really want an earful.

      3. Bipedal Humanoid   8 months ago

It’s an assault to the Spanish language. That should have ended it right there.

It’s an assault to the Spanish language.

            This I understand.

          2. Dillinger   8 months ago

Italians everywhere would be offended if they didn’t smell so bad.

        2. Earth-based Human Skeptic   8 months ago

Of course. Spanish, like all Romance languages (and many others) has deterministic genders. That kind of oppression can not stand, man, er, person, um, they.

          1. soldiermedic76   8 months ago

I was going to say Germanic languages do as well, somehow English lost most of its deterministic genders sometime around the end of the High Middle Ages to the start of the Modern Age (about the same time as the transition from middle English to modern English).

            1. soldiermedic76   8 months ago

Also, about the same time as English became even the main spoken language of the nobility, printing arrived in England, the Protestant reformation and a sudden increase in literacy. I’m sure some linguistic has an hypothesis as to how any one or all of these events played into the loss of so many gendered words in English.

              1. Quicktown Brix   8 months ago

I’m sure some linguistic has an hypothesis as to how any one or all of these events played into the loss of so many gendered words in English.

Indeed. The History of English Podcast covers this. English lost its grammatical genders and much conjugation that most IndoEuropean languages retain, starting with the Viking invasions. The language auto‐simplified because accommodating the complicated and different grammar of both languages was unworkable. This trend continued with the heavy influx of Norman French after 1066. The simplification still continues to this day. We say, “I already ate.” Someday we’ll likely say, “I already eated.”

Oh gosh and my own daughter will gleefully participate (she hates irregular verbs and has said so much when I correct her).

                  1. Minadin   8 months ago

She should try Danish out for a spin; they have 3 extra vowels, and each one can be short, middle, or long-sounding, given the context.

According to RCP, only one recent poll has Harris winning Arizona, the average of polls has her losing every swing state except Wisconsin today, and even in Wisconsin the latest polling has her losing, it just hasn’t shifted the average yet. Hell, she’s now losing Nevada based on the average of polls.

      1. Roberta   8 months ago

Yes, HyR is behind the news, as reflected by the trend in betting odds. The swing toward Trump in recent weeks is palpable and seems to be accelerating.

Kamala Harris has changed course a bit in the last two weeks, choosing to get herself out there a bit more…

Luckily for her the story is that she’s finally doing interviews and not her answers in them.

    1. Moonrocks   8 months ago

Those interviews were a strategic mistake. As they say, better to keep quiet and appear stupid than open your mouth and remove all doubt.

      1. Commenter_XY   8 months ago

Agree…I stated the day she was installed as nominee, the more Kamala speaks, the more people will see why 99% of Democrats rejected her in 2020. It is true.

        Like the Lincoln allusion.

        1. Mother's Lament   8 months ago

It’s okay, CBS was there to help.

Yeah, if you just have the compliant media edit all of her answers to seem thoughtful and polished, it’s like having a teleprompter and a time machine at the same time.

    2. Bubba Jones   8 months ago

“Call Her Daddy” seems to be a podcast for people in shitty relationships who get abortions.

Most of the episodes seem to be about what to do when your fiance cheats on you, or what to do when you want to cheat on your fiance.

And the “things Alex cares about” are 6 links to abortion services.

Someone has monetized not growing up.

      1. mad.casual   8 months ago

I must say, the YouTube comments section redeeming the intellectual vacuousness of the episode was a very bizarre “Spiderman pointing at Spiderman” moment.

I guess the notion that the internet is 99% neurotic, mentally-detached women and sycophantic, attention-seeking males, and 1% actual men and women replying “WTF are you even talking about? Do you even know?” shouldn’t really surprise me. Just, weird to see it wearing such a similar costume out in public.

        1. JesseAz (5-30 Banana Republic Day)   8 months ago

Didn’t a study show 80% of the internet was 5% of the people for the most part?

          1. Jefferson Paul   8 months ago

I think it’s probably closer to an 80-20 Pareto distribution.

          2. R Mac   8 months ago

    3. Kungpowderfinger   8 months ago

and possibly the worst of all: sharing a Miller High Life with Stephen Colbert

So this must be some bizarre attempt to show the mouth breathers that Kamala is someone they’d like to have a beer with? Because that’s who people vote for: someone they’d like to have beer with?

Ben and Jerry should change Colbert’s ice cream name to Butt Lickin’ Toady

“Ben and Jerry should change Colbert’s ice cream name to Butt Lickin’ Toady”

Make that available in a 55 gallon drum, and Pedo Jeffy approves.

      2. Square = Circle   8 months ago

Because that’s who people vote for: someone they’d like to have beer with?

There is a grain of truth to it, but the math they don’t seem to be doing is that that’s not the same thing as someone that Stephen Colbert will pretend to enjoy a beer with, when you know that neither one of them would ever be caught dead drinking a Miller High Life in any other circumstance.

        1. Red Rocks White Privilege   8 months ago

0.6 would be the election goes to the House and someone else wins (maybe after the next few assassination attempts)

    7. mad.casual   8 months ago

electionbettingodds has it at 53.1 vs. 46.0 and, arguably more critically, has pushed its EC split up *again* this week to 306-232 in Trump’s favor.

But I’m sure Sandy will be along any minute to tell us how the DNC has the EC game locked in, the popular percentages go up and down all the time, and really Trump is the worst possible candidate the GOP could’ve chosen (like the GOP would just appoint someone as their nominee without the person winning a single primary).

If only those deplorable Trump voters would just listen to Sandy, they’d be able to see through Koch and Reason’s delusions.

      1. Chumby   8 months ago

I appreciate Sandy’s perspective and agree with her analysis to a point. A lot of folks hate Trump. But disagree that an establishment GOP candidate (qv, McCain, Dole, or Romney type) had the ability to also galvanize those opposing the current regime or the ego to push back convincingly against the cuckold MSM.

        1. JesseAz (5-30 Banana Republic Day)   8 months ago

          This.

Trump has a lot of voters who wouldn’t and never did vote for the Romneys. Meanwhile we have 2020 never trumpers telling CNN they will vote Trump.

        2. Jefferson Paul   8 months ago

The establishment GOP candidate was Nikki Haley. Had Trump not tilted his head in Butler, she would have been the nominee at the convention a few days later. If the assassination had been blamed on Iran, we would have had a war with Iran to go along with a Haley nomination. It wouldn’t have mattered if Haley beat Biden (who knows if he would have “dropped out” had this played out) or Kamala or whoever. We’d have another forever war in the Middle East that can make the “elites” rich(er).

There isn’t sufficient evidence right now to say that this was the goal of the [coordinated] assassination attempt, but it’s certainly plausible.

          1. R Mac   8 months ago

            Occam’s bullet.

            1. Jefferson Paul   8 months ago

That’s a good term for it. Did you just come up with it? It succinctly sums it up for me.

I remember when in high school, on a test, the answer was Occam’s Razor, but I had a brainfart and couldn’t remember what came after Occam’s, so I guessed “Occam’s Hammer.” I kinda like Occam’s Hammer better.

                1. Chumby   8 months ago

Hopefully CACLLs and Cackles all start using it.

      2. mamabug   8 months ago

Living in WA state, I am cynical enough to side with Sandy on the DNC’s EC game. Underestimating their ability to mine a blue region until they get *just* enough votes should never be underestimated.

My 0.6% would go to – Kamala wins the EC under ‘late night ballot drop’ circumstances, Trump is conveniently jailed shortly thereafter and ends up in solitary unable to communicate out, and between Nov and Feb the federal gov cracks down hard on ‘domestic terrorists’ to sweep up any far-right too stupid to have not gone the Hezbollah-beeper-method means of communication.

Underestimating their ability to mine a blue region until they get *just* enough votes should never be underestimated.

That said, exactly how many swing States where an assassination attempt was made against him would he have to appear in *again* before you would think he’s not underestimating the swing states?

Kamala wins the EC under ‘late night ballot drop’ circumstances, Trump is conveniently jailed shortly thereafter and ends up in solitary unable to communicate out, and between Nov and Feb the federal gov cracks down hard on ‘domestic terrorists’ to sweep up any far-right too stupid to have not gone the Hezbollah-beeper-method means of communication.

This doesn’t align with Sandy’s assertion that such talk is some sort of campaign strategy and people need to stop talking about it because it’s a loser strategy to talk about it.

“you are bound to have 0.0001% crazies out there who truly believe the earth is flat, too.”

The weird thing is that that was probably the same number of people in medieval Europe who thought the earth was flat too.

Anyone who’s been high in the mountains, on a hill on a flat prairie, or lived by the sea, saw the curvature of the earth. Eratosthenes calculated the earth’s circumference with high accuracy in 240 BC.

Nobody until 21st century has seriously advanced and propagated the idea of a flat earth.

“I think you’ll see Dems in Congress refuse to certify the election”

            AB-SO-LUTE-LY.

It won’t be the first time either.

In 2001, 2005 and 2017, Democratic Representatives and, in 2005, Senators, voted against accepting the Electoral College tally. Thus, every Republican president since George H. W. Bush has seen Democrats vote against accepting the legitimacy of his election.

In January 2017, after Trump’s win, House Democrats objected to certifying the election results in 9 states. About 70 House Democrats boycotted Trump’s inauguration because they said it was fraudulent election.

Of course this all got memory holed after Trump suggested doing the same thing, but they’ll do it again if he manages to somehow get past the margin of fraud.

Democrats 2016 insurrection was just smaller “The states were counted, but three protestors started yelling from the visitors’ gallery of the chamber. ”

1:09 P.M. ET: Rep. Jim McGovern of Massachusetts rose to object to the certificate from Alabama.
“The electors were not lawfully certified, especially given the confirmed and illegal activities engaged by the government of Russia,” McGovern said.

Biden denied McGovern on the grounds that he didn’t have a senator’s signature on his written objection.

1:14 P.M.: Rep. Jamie Raskin of Maryland rose to object to 10 of Florida’s 29 electoral votes.

“They violated Florida’s prohibition against dual office holders,” Raskin said.

Again, despite the fact that Raskin pointed out that he had his objection in writing, he failed to get a senator’s signature.

1:15 P.M.: No sooner had the Florida question been settled than its neighbor to the north was the subject of another objection, when Washington’s Rep. Pramila Jayapal objected to Georgia’s vote certificate.

“It is over,” Biden told the congresswoman.

1:21 P.M.: Rep. Barbara Lee of California brought up voting machines and Russian hacking when she objected following the counting of Michigan’s votes.

“People are horrified by the overwhelming evidence of Russian interference in our election,” Lee said.

Once again, her objection was denied for the lack of a senator’s signature. They also turned off her microphone.

1:23 P.M.: After New York’s tally was read, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas stood up to object.

“I object on the massive voter suppression that included –” Jackson Lee began.

“The debate is not in order,” Biden interrupted. Again, the congresswoman lacked a senator’s signature.

1:28 P.M.: Arizona’s Rep. Raul Grijalva rose to object after North Carolina’s tally. He tried to object on violations of the Voting Rights Act, but Biden shut him down.

As you may have guessed, he didn’t have the signature of a senator.

Once he gave up, Jackson Lee tagged him out and tried to object to the votes herself. They cut off her microphone, too.

“There is no debate. There is no debate. There is no debate,” a visibly agitated Biden said as he gaveled.

1:31 PM: Jackson Lee made another appearance minutes later after South Carolina’s certification.

“There is no debate in the joint session,” Biden said, shutting her down once more.

1:36 PM: Biden must have thought, after five minutes of peace and getting through the state of West Virginia, that the House members might observe the rules. Lee wasn’t even able to make it through her objection before Biden said, “There is no debate.”

They cut off her microphone again.

1:37 PM: Wisconsin’s votes had been read. With just Wyoming to go, the finish line was in reach.

Jackson Lee once again tried to make an objection on the grounds of Russian interference in the election.

“The objection cannot be received,” Biden said.

1:38 PM: The final state’s votes had been read. Then entered California Rep. Maxine Waters.

Taking a play from her own book – she objected to the certification of George W. Bush’s 2000 election – Waters admitted that she didn’t have a senator’s signature on her objection.

“I wish to ask: Is there one United States senator who will join me in this letter of objection?” Waters asked. Through House Speaker Paul Ryan’s chuckle and boos from the rest of the chamber, it was clear that there was not.

1:40 PM: The states were counted, but three protestors started yelling from the visitors’ gallery of the chamber. At least one of them was reciting the Constitution as he was taken away by security.

    No Russian In To Assist

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, many communities across the United States faced flooding, loss of power, a lack of food and water, and of course limited monetary and logistical support in order to see that Americans received the aid they so desperately need.

FEMA does not have the money to rebuild every home, compensate everyone for Hurricane related costs, or cover the restoration of every road and bridge being destroyed.

However; FEMA has ample resources that it dispenses to immigrants who arrive to this country instead of Americans.

The agency spends more than $800 million each year on shelter programs for recent immigrant arrivals, including and especially for illegal immigrants, but can only be bothered to help out with $750 to individual Americans effected by Hurricane Helene.

The United Nations is handing out hundreds of millions of dollars in pre-paid debit cards to immigrants who are in transit to the United States, but we could not find a single United Nations page that said the sprawling international bureaucracy was spending a single dime to assist American flood and Hurricane victims.

    – Intel Slava Z

This is how some non cuckold foreign media see the situation which happens to dovetail with video reports of locals including rescue and aid personnel in the area of operation. But being a super libertarian, I’d rather accept the narrative from the Biden-Harris regime compliant press and instead read articles about Netflix offerings or a book review.

Bandera grain ship with a lot of 62-grain green tips. Lusitania 2.0. When I worked in Ireland, recall a conversation with a diver that talked about that ship having munitions on it. This was already known to Chumby but listened to his entire account. It wasn’t the casus belli against imperial Germany; that was the Zimmermann telegraph.

        1. soldiermedic76   8 months ago

That and the British government’s propaganda, which was hyperbolic at best, outright lies at worst. Oh and Wilson was aware as early as 1914 that the British were lying in order to persuade the American public to back England, and he said nothing. In fact, he went along with it.

          1. Chumby   8 months ago

The Brits cut the transAtlantic cable at the start. That was arguably an act of war. The propaganda shifted some public opinion (such as rape of Belgium and the execution of that nurse spy) but it wasn’t going to drag the US into it. The unrestricted submarine warfare (sinking other US vessels transporting goods to Britain likely had a larger role). Now the financial backing America gave to Britain was a factor since a loss or even possibly a stalemate by Britain could threaten repayment. Ultimately, when a superpower tries to have direct influence or use force on the doorstep of another superpower, the superpower in proximity tends to respond (that, Korea, Cuban missiles, NAFO color revolutions are examples).

            1. soldiermedic76   8 months ago

The British embargo of Germany was also an act of war, and several congressman pointed that out to Wilson in 1914 (and it was a violation of the same rules of war that Germany was supposedly breaking with unrestricted warfare, as it wasn’t a close blockade, oh and Q-ships were also a violation but the British got away with that too).

              1. soldiermedic76   8 months ago

Hell, the Brits were just lucky it was Wilson and not Madison reincarnated with their embargo. We kind of know how Madison reacted when the British tried to embargo trade with France under Madison.

                1. Chumby   8 months ago

Yeah, that was more of an act of war though the US Navy wasn’t going to challenge the Royal Navy. At that time nobody could with all those dreadnoughts and other ships. Plus their crews were likely the most skilled. Threatening an invasion of (then British) Canada may have adjusted the situation. The US essentially sat it out until Zimmermann.

                  1. soldiermedic76   8 months ago

I don’t know, the US Fleet and the German High Fleet combined could have given the Brits a run for their money. As it was, the smaller German High Sea Fleet fought the RN to a draw at Jutland.

                  2. soldiermedic76   8 months ago

Invading Canada might even had been feasible, as most of the Canadian military was shipped to France by 1915. I don’t have solid proof but I suspect just like FDR, Wilson was looking for an excuse to go to war with Germany from the start while playing lip service to neutrality (and using it as a campaign slogan), and with far less justification.

                    1. soldiermedic76   8 months ago

And yes, the Zimmerman telegram was adequate cause de la guerre.

Worst COVID Fund Fraud in U.S. Occurred in Minnesota’s Somali Community Under Gov. Tim Walz
    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2024/10/06/worst-covid-fund-fraud-in-u-s-occurred-in-minnesotas-somali-community-under-gov-tim-walz/

On Friday, CNN reported about the massive amount of theft of government funding that has been going on in Minnesota under Walz. The network noted that non-partisan state auditors have published no less than 16 reports on the massive amounts of fraud occurring in the Gopher State during Walz’s governorship.

But the worst incident in Minnesota also stands as the most expensive fraud concerning COVID funding in the entire nation where 47 Somali immigrants have been charged with stealing $250 million in federal COVID funding.

Under Walz’s leadership, a fake Somali charity called “Feeding Our Future” was found to have defrauded the government of millions of dollars, money that was set aside to help children and families during the COVID crisis, but money that was stolen to pay for high-priced real estate, cars, clothes, travel expenses, and luxuries for the members of the Somali community that managed the funds.

The odd thing is, these have a basis in a real idea to manipulate weather to try to lessen the effects of hurricanes. Of course, the ideas failed. But, there’s an actual truth there that’s lacking in the climate change fear mongering.

      * “They” is the MIC, and implying that it’s the jews is simply a tactic to get people to stop talking about things they do.

      1. Zeb   8 months ago

I still think that it is much better explained by the simple fact that this is the time of year when large hurricanes pretty much always hit the southeastern US. I don’t think you need malevolent forces to make perfectly normal weather events happen.

        1. R Mac   8 months ago

Probably. But the reaction to the mere suggestion that they can control weather is eyebrow raising.

          1. Zeb   8 months ago

It’s also not uncommon (especially from the current establishment) to place emphasis on their craziest opponents and then try to portray them as typical.
And I just don’t think anyone has it together enough to hide weather manipulation tech that is capable of creating or steering hurricanes. Seeding clouds is one thing. It’s really not that hard to do. But given the amount of energy you’d need to control to direct a hurricane stuff like that just isn’t plausible unless you can show me some tech capable of anything remotely close to being able to do that.

When the legacy media “debunked” the related story about ballots being brought into the Detroit counting center in the middle of the night (the video of the red rider wagon being pulled in) as it just being camera equipment, they never explained why camera equipment was being brought in when counting was supposed to have been stopped for the night. Why would you need to bring camera equipment in, even when the counting was underway, as they didn’t allow media to film inside the counting center? Much less doing it after they sent the poll watchers home since they purportedly were done for the night.

Biden’s agency bosses say Americans have ‘too much freedom’
    https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/washington-secrets/3177335/bidens-agency-bosses-say-americans-have-too-much-freedom/
The bosses of federal agencies were asked in a new Napolitan Institute survey about the “individual freedom” Americans have, and 51% said they have “somewhat” to “far too much freedom.”

But just 16% of voters agreed and 57% believe the government has too much control over their lives.

Democratic “swamp” managers felt the country has too much freedom at the highest levels in the survey, at 68%. Among Republican federal agency chiefs, just 33% agreed.

But the partisan bureaucrats were more in agreement when it came to choosing who is best at deciding if new regulations are needed, found the polling outfit headed by Scott Rasmussen.

Said the analysis shared with Secrets on Friday, “Fifty-four percent (54%) of government managers say that if, after carefully researching an important issue, they determine that a regulation is needed, yet voters overwhelmingly oppose it, they should follow their research and issue the regulation anyway. This includes 49% of Republican government managers and 60% of Democrats,” it said.

This is a few years old…

        From Forbes again:

What’s curious, however, is that traditionally administrative agencies spent more than $20 million. Four notable examples:

        1) The 2,300 Special Agents at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) are allowed to carry AR-15’s, P90 tactical rifles, and other heavy weaponry. Recently, the IRS armed up with $1.2 million in new ammunition. This was in addition to the $11 million procurement of guns, ammunition, and military-style equipment procured between 2006-2014.

        2) The Small Business Administration (SBA) spent tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars to load its gun locker with Glocks last year. The SBA wasn’t alone – the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service modified their Glocks with silencers.

        3) The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has a relatively new police force. In 1996, the VA had zero employees with arrest and firearm authority. Today, the VA has 3,700 officers, armed with millions of dollars’ worth of guns and ammunition including AR-15’s, Sig Sauer handguns, and semi-automatic pistols.

        4) Meanwhile, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) agents carry the same sophisticated weapons platforms used by our Special Forces military warriors. The HHS gun locker is housed in a new “National Training Operations Center” – a facility at an undisclosed location within the DC beltway.

Spending on guns and ammo at 58 non-military federal agencies – including 40 regulatory, administrative agencies – amounted to $158 million.

The continued growth of the federal arsenal begs the question: Just whom are the feds planning to battle?

More examples of agencies amassing firepower over the last two years:

Loading the Gun Locker – Federal agencies spent $44 million on guns, including an “urgent” order for 20 M-16 Rifles with extra magazines at the Department of Energy ($49,559); shotguns and Glock pistols at the General Services Administration ($16,568); and a bulk order of pistols, sights, and accessories by the Bureau of Reclamation whose main job is to build dams, power plants, and canals ($697,182).

Buying Bullets in Bulk – The government spent $114 million on ammunition, including bulk purchases by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ($66,927); the Smithsonian ($42,687); and the Railroad Retirement Board ($6,941). The Social Security Administration spent $61,129 on bullets including 50,000 rounds of ammunition plus 12-gauge buckshot and slug ammo.

The EPA special agents purchased ammunition for their .357 and 9mm revolvers and buckshot for their shotguns. While Bernie Sanders claimed that the biggest adversary to the United States was climate change, the EPA stood ready to fight in ways we couldn’t have imagined.

Hollow-Point Bullets – Despite being outlawed by the Geneva Convention, federal agencies spent $426,268 on hollow-point bullets, including orders from the Forest Service, National Park Service, Office of Inspector General, Bureau of Fiscal Service, as well as Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Marshals, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

    5. sarcasmic   8 months ago

The article doesn’t define what freedom means. From the context it looks like people who write regulations think there should be more regulations. Of course they do. Ask them what anarchy means and they’ll say chaos because they can’t imagine rules without threats of violence. So they feel they must write rules, backed up with violence, about literally everything. Or as Reagan put it “Government’s view of the economy. If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops moving, subsidize it.”

      1. Mother's Lament   8 months ago

That’s right, Sarckles. Unlike every single other time in history ever, the ones calling for free speech and verifiable elections are going to be putting people into camps, and not the guy’s arguing against that.

But you will end up in a camp one day, Sarc. Right next to Jesse, just like how all the old Bolshevik revolutionaries eventually joined the kulaks in the gulag. And you’ll still blame the other side and say “If only Comrade Stalin knew”.

              1. Medulla Oblongata   8 months ago

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?… The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If…if…We didn’t love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation…. We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

FFS, stop trying to push claims of anti-semitism where there’s absolutely no evidence of it. “They” is a common reference to the powers that be or even people at large. Yes, it’s a misplaced pronoun. But, it’s common enough in general parlance that assuming they means Jews is just retarded.

And, while I think automatically assuming some sort of conspiracy int he current circumstances is silly, taking a technology like cloud seeding that’s been around for fifty years and assuming no additional advancements might ever be possible based on nothing is perhaps just as silly. We know the military was doing research on weaponizing weather going as far back as the Eisenhower administration. That doesn’t mean this is that. It mean there’s little reason to entirely dismiss the idea.

Obizzle is angry that black men aren’t that excited to vote for a woman that reminds them of the high-drama, masculine hoes they hooked up with in their younger days:

Barack Obama accused black male voters who refuse to support Kamala Harris of sexism and demanded they get on board with the Democrat nominee.
The former president was at a campaign field office in Pittsburgh to thank volunteers, but instead gave them a lecture, saying he wanted to ‘speak some truths.’
Obama said he was responding to reports on the ground that there was lower enthusiasm for Harris than there was for his own candidacy and that some black men were thinking of sitting out the election.

This won’t be a temporary thing: the gap in voting patterns between men and women will continue to grow, and it will continue to eat away at the gaps in other demographics.

Besides the revolutionary/counter-revolutionary paradigm that’s replaced the liberal/conservative one from the last 100 years, this is going to be the most significant political divide of the next generation, at least. And not coincidentally, it really started to manifest itself after Trump was elected. Black women hardly matter in this calculus because they already vote 95-98% Democrat, so there’s no point in Republicans even bothering to try to appeal to them. But they can definitely eat into the black male vote by telling them, “do you really want one of your ex-shawtys running your business and telling you what to do?”

    5. Mike Parsons   8 months ago

Black men know Kamala Harris. She’s that girl they knew who thought she was better than everyone that went off to college, came back with a better/holier than thou complex, and is a condescending but completely incompetent middle manager who ended up fucking/marrying some white lawyer.

She has appeal only to white liberal wanna be girl bosses and black activist wanna be girl bosses, all in the AWFL or A(_)FL categories. Call her daddy was a perfect podcast to go on. Really cements her demo.

Young black dudes actually like Trumps brash shit talking, money making, and swagger. This election is going to be the biggest kick in the dick to the dems and their “obama coalition” they thought the built when they realize that coalition relied on *actually* keeping and appealing to men.

Ya, blacks will overwhelmingly go dem, but I bet he sets the record for R black vote, R hispanic vote, and the overall male vote. Kamala cant lose 20% of black voters and still win the election, its way too close.

Pew is the only one who thinks she is leading lol. Liz… why did you choose the most Harris friendly poll? Even her internal polling doesn’t agree with Pew.

    1. InsaneTrollLogic (Factio Democratica delenda est 5/30/24)   8 months ago

Exactly. If Kamala’s internal polling was good, she wouldn’t be changing strategies at this point in the campaign. Tammy Baldwin actually released her internal polls showing Harris down 3 points in WI. In fact from what I’ve been able to find about internal polls both campaigns are showing Trump ahead in all of the swing states. Even CNN is saying that if Trump beats the media polls by the same percentages that he did in 2016 and 2020 he’ll easily get over 300 in the electoral college.

The Morning Briefing: It’s Impossible to Say Too Many Bad Things About Illegal Alien Invaders
    https://pjmedia.com/stephen-kruiser/2024/10/11/the-morning-briefing-its-impossible-to-say-too-many-bad-things-about-illegal-alien-invaders-n4933235

The most galling aspect of the discussion about this nightmare is that the people responsible for it spent years pretending that there was no problem at all. Kamala Harris assured the American public on more than one occasion that the border was secure. Once the situation got so out of control that they could no longer deny what was happening, Dems blamed Republicans for not passing a bill that they claim would have taken care of everything. Actually, the bill would have — you guessed it — compounded the problem.

    1. Red Rocks White Privilege   8 months ago

Once the situation got so out of control that they could no longer deny what was happening, Dems blamed Republicans for not passing a bill that they claim would have taken care of everything. Actually, the bill would have — you guessed it — compounded the problem.

This was what was so insidious about the left’s claims of a “bipartisan” immigration bill and their faithful center-right lapdogs claiming it was the “best immigration bill I’ve seen in my lifetime.” Anyone who actually read the bill knew that it was going to be a non-starter on two key sections alone–the part that established the 5,000 contact limit, 4,000 above what Obama himself called a “crisis level,” and the part that allowed the President to ignore the limit whenever he felt like it.

So when the GOP actually read the bill, and rejected it on its merits, these same fork-tongued vipers started claiming, falsely, that Trump ordered them to kill it. Because they absolutely knew that it was a Trojan horse on the level of Hart-Cellar and the 1986 amnesty, and were primarily mad that the GOP saw through the ruse.

      1. Jefferson Paul   8 months ago

The parts of the bill regarding the border were bad enough, as you say, to emphatically vote against it. But combining that border “Trojan Horse” bill with massive funding for Ukraine and Israel made it one of the worst ever bills I’ve heard of.

Voting for the bill should disqualify one from any kind of position of power.

Who among us (other than SQRLSY) would eat any part of a 5-gallon bucket of ice cream if they know for a fact that somewhere in it is a one dog turd.

Even if a bill gives you 90% of what you want (not that this one did, just saying), but has a dog turd like that in it, you can’t support it.

BREAKING: Trump campaign, Arizona GOP brings in a big gun to run election integrity operation
    https://therightscoop.com/breaking-trump-campaign-arizona-gop-brings-in-a-big-gun-to-run-election-integrity-operation/

The Arizona Republican Party brought in attorney and Trump loyalist Harmeet Dhillon to run its election integrity operation as early voting kicked off in the Grand Canyon State.

Dhillon’s new role could signal the Republicans’ intent to take a more aggressive approach to elections in Arizona, where election denialism has run rampant and former President Trump’s MAGA base has clamored for showdowns over election policies and procedures.

“She will spearhead critical legal battles, stop the many attacks on the integrity of our elections, and lead our winning election integrity team to Protect the Vote,” Trump campaign managers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles and RNC and RNC co-chairs Lara Trump and Michael Whatley said in a press statement.

Early voting in Arizona began Wednesday.

The AZGOP, Republican National Committee and Trump campaign announced Tuesday night they’d launched an “unprecedented” election integrity program.

“We are committed to an honest and secure election system, that counts every legal vote properly. Arizonans, and Americans, deserve nothing less, and we are full steam ahead in our unprecedented dedication to Election Integrity,” AZGOP chair Gina Swoboda said.

Swoboda tells Axios that Dhillon’s new role shouldn’t necessarily be taken as a sign that Republicans will be more litigious or go on offense regarding election issues in Arizona, saying the party is taking “an aggressively defensive posture.”

She says Dhillon’s appointment is a sign that Trump knows how important Arizona is.

“As long as everybody’s being compliant, there’s nothing to worry about. But in the event that things start to go off-kilter, then we’ll take whatever actions necessary to secure the election,” Swoboda said.

Israel has killed more journalists than any ‘warring nation’ since WW2. You don’t need to make up shit and excuses about what you want others to believe about what he did. He filed the same info that day that others from the BBC, CNN, YNet, etc filed.

            1. Chumby   8 months ago

Now you are goalpost shifting. The OP was regarding arresting a journalist that was (allegedly) documenting the results of a strike against Israel. I’m commenting on the arrest of the journalist. I pointed out that this is common for warring nations and gave a historic US reference (it was under that detainment FSK penned the national anthem) and a similar contemporary practice. Four other journalists were also arrested with him but those apparently have been released. There is a dispute whether what he documented was different than MSM. Palestine Chronicle cites a source that Loffredo reported things that other media had not.

              1. JFree   8 months ago

This isn’t goalpost shifting. You’re just doing precisely the same shit that always happens anytime Israel is questioned. It’s complicated. Things are disputed. Why do you support the ayatollahs? If you keep questioning this, you are anti-semitic. You are worse than the Nazis.

He filed the same story everyone else did (you can see the link) – with a different attitude.

The Western shit all follows the same narrative – Iran targets civilians (because they are a terrorist organization). Israel knocked almost everything down – except for hits near some military/intelligence places. Thank the IDF no civilians were hurt. The terrorist incident is over and we will hit their terrorist supporters hard in the retaliation. That narrative is all pre-approved by the IDF and no mainstream western sources are challenging that narrative at all.

His narrative was different – Looks like Iran targeted military/intelligence places. A much lower % was knocked down. Same facts. Different attitude. His previous reporting – re how IDF and settlers cooperate to block food entering Gaza, steal land on West Bank, steal land from Armenian Christians in Jerusalem. That’s just embarrassing. They need to steal his phone contacts and shut him up.

                1. Chumby   8 months ago

                  It is.

The focus is on the arrest of the journalist. Others say he was involved in reporting intel. Showing the location of the missile strike in relation to the Mossad HQ is range finding. He did it both in video format and a map. He even admitted in his vlog that the info was censored by the state. Both you and he can be mad about the situation; he knew it was illegal. As an outsider that doesn’t take a position on this beyond “No US tax money to any foreign nation” I understand why his arrest has played out as it has.

                  1. JFree   8 months ago

If the notion is that Israel’s enemies will be aided to the point of treason being charged v journalists for reading yesterday’s news, then there isn’t remotely any free press.

This isn’t future or current operations. It is past operations -where Iran can easily assess damage as they knew their targets. Only Israelis are kept in the dark. Which would be the point.

The press is either on kill lists or they are an instrument of state propaganda. Even funnier, Israel will never do that to the Israel press. Only to the English language Western press. It is the US press that will lose its freedom (and basically already has) re understanding what happened with Israel.

                    1. Chumby   8 months ago

It was range finding. I saw that Israel had even managed to block satintel (first world nations have it of course). Reporting on the results of an attack for a specific target is not JoUrNaLiSm. This is why he was arrested.

Iran can now assess by how much they missed based on this man’s reporting.

It isn’t his country. Not sure sovereign citizen – press is a special class.

Feel free to travel to Israel and protest his arrest, do your own journalism, or stay stateside and keep typing the same thing. I’m explaining why this is playing out. Jordan wouldn’t tolerate journalists assisting Israel either.

    3. ducksalad   8 months ago

Those are both factors that help Trump, but not by some huge number.

Trump’s up by 10% with black males? Black males are 7% of the total electorate so that’s an +0.7% shift for Trump and -0.7% for Harris.

Trump now has a majority of Teamsters? Let’s (being generous) say it went from 70-30 FJB to 70-30 DJT, so he gained 40% of them. There are 1.3M Teamsters, but (doing some estimating, picking number more favorable to Trump):
      1.3M x 90% citizens x 65% turnout x 40% = 300,000 votes, out of a total of about 160M votes is 0.2%. So +0.2% for Trump and -0.2% for Harris.

Bottom line: only significant in a close election, but you’re claiming it’s not a close election.

MTG is 100% correct. There is an entire political class who claims– quite literally– that if we all change just a few behaviors in our lives and make a few small sacrifices, that we can reduce extreme weather events globally. That’s literally what we’re told on nearly a daily basis.

But if you keep insisting on examples of who ‘they’ are, one group of the ‘they’ would be Just Stop Oil. That’s just one small example of a ‘they’ who think all we have to do is stop driving to work and Hurricanes will be substantially reduced.

I really have always rolled my eyes at the Tim Pools that cry “CIVIL WAR!!” at every turn, but man, I really feel like we are one wrong move away from it, and the people that are about to cause it have all but promised they are going to pull that trigger

I was actually thinking about this. About how bizarre it is that we’ve had two assassination attempts the way we have. Throughout the world and across history, there are all kinds of suspicious carriage/car accidents, people developing polonium or some other kind of poisoning, people’s pagers exploding and killing them, anthrax letters… but, for some reason, the assassination attempts against Trump all seem to fit the “Lone wolf, political activist, shooter with a rifle.” stereotype. Almost like how polonium poisoning carries a certain connotation, domestic terrorist shooter is the only way similar organizations in this country could envision a leader being killed “ambiguously”.

So Xitter is ATF’s go-to appeal to authority when the Bronze-Age Scriptures fail.

Do you have some other explanation as to why we all now know that Kamalamadingdong is a gibbering retard?

Why not? Rednecks and MAGAts have their own Jesus Caucus infiltrator in Liz.
