Donald Trump answers questions at the National Association of Black Journalists Annual Convention and Career Fair in Chicago on July 31 | Eileen T. Meslar/TNS/Newscom
(Eileen T. Meslar/TNS/Newscom)

New poll released Sunday: The latest presidential poll, from The New York Times and Siena College, was released over the weekend. It shows Republican nominee Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris basically neck and neck as we head into the final two months of the presidential race and the week of their first—and possibly only—debate.

Trump is technically in the lead, clinching 48 percent of likely voters to Harris' 47 percent. This poll, which has a margin of error of three percentage points, is consistent with recent swing state polling averages, which show true ties in Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, and Arizona and small Harris leads in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. (Pollster Nate Silver maintains a ranking, on Silver Bulletin, of poll quality, and New York Times/Siena is considered second-highest-rated of the many on offer.)

National polls from The Wall Street Journal and Quinnipiac, both surveying likely voters and conducted during the last week of August, show the two candidates basically neck and neck as well, with a tiny Harris lead.

Changing demographics: This race's gender divide—Harris' 14-point lead among likely women voters (as of a few weeks ago), compared with Trump's 17-point lead among men—has been a huge source of headlines and analysis. The Democratic Party is increasingly winning over (disproportionately white) college-educated people but has been failing to maintain favor with working-class men. In particular, Republicans are doing increasingly well with Latino men.

"The reason that the race is tighter with Hispanics has everything to do with Hispanic men," Republican pollster David Lee told The Wall Street Journal.

"The basic theory that became orthodoxy in the party during the Obama era was this 'demographics is destiny' concept—literally every 30 seconds a new Latino is born in America, and that's a future Democrat," Mike Madrid, a political strategist focused on reaching Latino voters, told Politico. But this ended up being untrue. "The political difference between a first- and second-generation Latino is a pretty big leap. The step from a second- to a third-generation Latino is tectonic. And so over the last 10 years, we started to see dramatic growth in third- and now a discernible fourth-generation Latino voter."

Scenes from New York: The newest, strangest, Brooklynest social media–driven trend: Throwing a baby shower or birthday party for your frozen eggs. "As women, we really only celebrate things like engagements, wedding anniversaries and baby showers," said TikToker Becky Hayes in a video. "A few of my friends, at the moment, are going through the process of freezing their eggs. This is such a big, stressful and expensive process. They are going through it all by themselves—funding it themselves, going through the actual logistics of it themselves. This needs to be celebrated." I don't blame you if you suspect that this is made up and nobody actually does it, but I'll note that there's even an Evite template for this genre of party.

Though I am always in favor of a good time, there's a crucial distinction between going through egg retrieval versus pregnancy. Baby showers are meant to fête a new mother: to provide her with supplies she needs, wisdom she seeks, and some excitement as she prepares to go through the hardships of delivery and postpartum. Brooklyn's single women might think their fertility journeys also deserve celebration, but it's just not the same thing.

QUICK HITS

  • "Supporters of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro began flooding Sao Paulo's main boulevard for an Independence Day rally Saturday, buoyed by the government's blocking of tech billionaire Elon Musk's X platform, a ban they say is proof of their political persecution," reports CNN. "The ban is red meat to Bolsonaro's allies, who have accused the judiciary and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's government of colluding to silence their movement."
  • "Deflation stalking China since last year is now showing signs of spiraling, threatening to worsen the outlook for the world's second-largest economy and raising calls for immediate policy action," reports Bloomberg.
  • Viktor Orbán wants to pull a Greg Abbott and send buses of asylum-seekers to Brussels. "If Brussels wants illegal migrants, Brussels can have them," said State Secretary Bence Rétvári.
  • Yes:

Most people don't understand that we've essentially made infrastructure projects illegal.

Any proposal to build new rail, bridges, dams, or ports and canals has to go through the same multi-year, multi-billion dollar review process as a new coal plant. Actually even more so. https://t.co/ugaP0njBPd

It shows Republican nominee Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris basically neck and neck...

    And then there's the debate.

After what happened with Joe, I just can't see them letting her talk. The last presidential debate site was in Tulsi Gabbard fed her her lunch.
Can you imagine what Trump would do?

He should just let her ramble and hang herself. Just like with Biden. She’s unbelievably stupid.

It seems there is a growing impulse to identify as neither party in the younger generations, which doesn’t really matter as much as we’d think since their options are still Trump or Kamala. It’s just one more factor that makes polling non-predictive.

It’s also probably a factor that those in the younger cohort don’t vote so who cares what they identify as. In fact, since they don’t vote it’s little surprise they also don’t have any particular party affiliation.

        1. Red Rocks White Privilege   2 years ago

It seems there is a growing impulse to identify as neither party in the younger generations

Yeah, but let's face it, most "independents" aren't actually independent, they just don't want to be bothered by the mailing lists and political canvassing.

          1. BYODB   2 years ago

A fair enough point, but especially when it comes to 'the youth' their affiliation matters exactly as much as their non-existent votes.

Trying to suss anything in particular out of that is probably not worthwhile. Those kids probably won't vote until their mid twenties when they have something to lose or they think they can get something for free.

And if we're honest, the 'have something to lose' and 'thinks they can get something for free' groups are the actual political groups in the U.S. if you're standing really high up and looking down.

      2. Mother's Lament   2 years ago

And it's a New York Times poll, so you know that they padded the Democrats a bit.

Is this really hard to grasp? How often do people say stuff like "I could never do THAT"? And yet if they had to do it, they would.

No one liked Kamala, and no one really wanted her to be the Dem nomination.

        1) But now that she is the person, and it is her or Trump, a large number of people support her because a large number of people were going to vote Dem no matter what.

        2) A significant amount of Harris's support comes from kids. They don't know what the fuck they are voting for. They saw that she is so brat and decided she is a candidate who gets them. Before we shit on them too much for that, it is well known that voters tend to support the candidate they'd like to have a beer (or Truly) with. And Harris's staff and her sycophantic press are doing everything in their power to cultivate her as a likable person. Go look on TikTok and you will see her treated as a goofy, fun person and that signal is being pumped far stronger than any of her previous cringiness.

        1. JesseAz (5-30 Banana Republic Day)   2 years ago

The Times/Sienna poll on demographics actually showed +2R for the youngest cohort.

          1. InsaneTrollLogic (Factio Democratica delenda est 5/30/24)   2 years ago

And that support is from young women. Young men seem to prefer Trump.

            1. Michael Ejercito   2 years ago

It is astonishing that Trump made gains among key Democratic constituencies relative to 2020, let alone 2016. FJB won a majority of the young male vote in 2020, after all.

Early on when Biden was running for reelection, I was going to stay home. Then it became obvious the GOP was going to run the self-serving charity thief who does private business with Governments (Chinese government was funding Indonesian resort in his name while supposedly working on trade deals with China, the Government of Saudi and LIV golf, etc) and whose children and spouses made money based on policy decisions (Jared and Ivanka), and then I decided I was going to hold my nose and vote for the guy who should be retired. Kamala was not my pick in 2016, but I am now glad there is an option that isnt the old as dirt guy or the orange flim flam man.

And she got her ass handed to her in the 2020 primary by Gabbard, leading to Harris bowing out before Iowa. So, no, no one voted for her at that level, ever.

You mean the primary in which her opponent Gabbard actually received primary votes and who now also supports Trump? That primary?

                1. A billionaire drops $12'000 at a charity auction and because one of his functionaries pays from the wrong account, he's on the take? That's the price of a used four-year-old base model Civic. Something tells me Trump wouldn't notice $120 grand missing from his account let alone $12. Why would he scrimp on it?

                2. The Chinese government gives a loan to a construction company to build an Indonesian theme park that will feature a Trump-branded golf course and hotels. And this implicates Trump how?

                3. "LIV Golf’s “eagerness to pay” to have former President Donald Trump host tournaments at his resorts"
No fucking shit. It's a president. The same would hold true of Ecuador, Japan and Sweden, and the same would be true if it were Clinton, Obama and Joe. But somehow this is somehow worse than $20 million book deals and speaking tours.

                4. The company Kushner works at didn't receive hundreds of millions from UAE, Qatar. This was a lie, and you know it was a lie.
The company was asked to invest hundreds of millions from UAE, Qatar. Big fucking difference there you dishonest shill.

A vacuous simpleton who flip flops each election based on personal feelings about the candidates' personalities and other frippery. This is an example of the person who voted, clinton, then bush, then obama, then trump, then biden. Seriously, they are out there.

Trump actually became poorer while in office, which bucks the trend of just about every other recent President. I'd suggest you think on that particular point for a while.

In fact, one wonders if Kamala became richer while VP. I'd bet my house the answer is 'yes'.

            1. DeAnnP   2 years ago

If Trump became poorer it's not because of any self-sacrificing move by him. It's because he showed the world his disgusting character traits and it hurt is his "brand". And I would like to see proof he lost money anyway...he was fleecing the government with his hotels and resorts.

              1. BYODB   2 years ago

Actually, and factually, it shows he is actually more ethical. I'd suggest you look into exactly how it is that former Presidents, Congressmen, and Senators all become massively wealthy while in office.

I'd guess you were just totally unaware that it's even a thing. Most people are pretty ignorant when it comes to what politicians do, but it seems you take pride in that ignorance.

Here's an article, but unfortunately I couldn't find a link that pointed to Vice.

It's from the House Oversight Committee and I know that may not be the best source for you.

                1. DeAnnP   2 years ago

I do not doubt Biden's scumbag son and his scumbag brother used the Biden name to try to make money. I am still waiting for proof that is not republican conjecture.

                  1. BYODB   2 years ago

I see you haven't read the evidence given. I also see you labeling one of those instances 'republican conjecture' whereas the other is somehow not 'democrat conjecture'. You've made no attempt to differentiate there beyond your own contempt and partisanship.

We would normally call that kind of thing confirmation bias.

Note that Trump being 'more ethical' than Democrats is a bar that's set so low that it's actually in the ground. Also note I never called Trump moral or ethical except by comparison. That is intentional.

The fact a corrupt real estate developer is still somehow more ethical than your own preferred candidates (and a bunch of Republicans too, by the way, as Democrats are not alone in these Congressional get rich quick schemes) should give you serious pause.

It also could be important that Trump's corruption is not generally thought to be public corruption, whereas many Republicans and Democrats get rich as a direct result of their hands resting on the levers of power. How that could possibly be 'better' would need some type of explanation.

For your consideration: imagine that it’s not just the eggs that go bad, but the wombs and the women as well. That your average 40 yr. old woman isn’t any more broadly capable of bearing children prodigiously than your average 40 yr. old man is capable of prodigiously beating the local junior college basketball or football team. That these women, in fact, aren’t celebrating their own eventual motherhood, but a motherhood that they can eventually foist off onto someone else. Someone else who has their own eggs and needn’t carry someone else’s eggs.

And in a topsy-turvy handmaid’s tale inversion of feminism and the fairer sex, these women are celebrating their own infertility, the subjugation of younger women, and worshipping the God of science in the false belief that it has freed them from some sort of shackle that irrational men imposed on them.

That, instead of empowering women, these feminists are celebrating the ability to perpetuate the lie and further infantalize women.

Can't think of any other actor that is the same dude in every fucking movie he's ever been in.

        1. Red Rocks White Privilege   2 years ago

Unless actors have some kind of Shakespearean or a lot of stage training in their background where they’re cast in different roles with different expectations, they’re just not going to have a lot of range and will stick with whatever gets them consistent employment. I love Nicholas Cage and I think he’s entertaining as hell, but with a couple of exceptions, he’s basically just played a variation of himself over the last 35 years of his career.

Then there are actors like Alan Rickman who CAN play multiple roles, but are simply more well-known for playing certain archetypes, so that’s what gets them the most attention and work.

That’s okay because not every actor needs to be these old school types like Ian McKellan, Derek Jacobi, or Anthony Hopkins, who arguably are the best actors, in terms of performing their craft and playing a multitude of roles convincingly, over the last 40 years. I can actually respect Statham having enough self-awareness to understand that playing one type of character is going to keep him perpetually employed.

        1. Red Rocks White Privilege   2 years ago

The same thing has happened in automobile manufacturing. The government's put in all these safety and gas mileage requirements, which has resulted in bloated vehicles with overly complex systems that have multiple points of failure. Look how many vehicles that use CVTs and turbo engines the last 10 years or so are rife with recalls and manufacturing/engineering defects. Meanwhile, the mechanical systems that employ the older technology without all the froo-froo tend to keep running. The one exception is probably Toyota's hybrid systems, but they've also had 20 years to iron out the kinks on those. Meanwhile, the turbo systems on the new Tundras are blowing out at geometric rates while their safe old conservative NA V-8s keep chugging along.

Another good example is Ford going all-in on their Ecoboost engines. These have been notoriously unreliable, and the irony is that Ford's barebones NA V-6s over the years have been pretty solid engines. I've had an F-150 with the 3.3L non-turbo V-6 for a few years now, and haven't had any issues so far outside normal preventative maintenance. Ford probably could have dropped that thing in the new Broncos and Mavericks with no problem and still provided a satisfying customer experience with decent gas mileage.

          1. Stupid Government Tricks   2 years ago

I have one of those old reliable NA V-8 Tundras, 2001, and it keeps chugging away. Change the oil every fall, it's still golden, although darker than a year before, and it only drives 3-5000 miles a year.

I'll admit this is incredibly confusing to me. Women can still have kids at 40, so what exactly are they hedging against with this?

If they are still single at 50, that's a bit late to start talking about kids. By the time they graduate high school they would be 68. That's crazy to me.

      1. Zeb   2 years ago

I try to give young people advice I wish I had received: have kids when you are young. It's easier, less risky and if you have kids in your 20s you'll be mostly done with it sometime in your 40s and have plenty of life still left to live. Who wants to have kids in school when you're 60? Just seems insane and backwards that so many people seem to think they should have a full career first and then have kids.

This crackpot theory was called out as bullshit the first month it was broached. Bush II did very well with Latinos in 2004. He won 40 - 44% of the vote and 56% of hispanic evangelicals. McCain did horribly but that was largely because of the debacle of his immigration bill.

(Since mentioning the B word is like lighting the bat signal for a certain pedophile, I want to point out this is not endorsement of Bush or his policies- just pointing out that as bad as he was, he managed historic gains with hispanics and there is no reason another conservative couldn't do the same.)

When people talk about the growing Hispanic population and imply that they’re all leftists, they’re talking about immigrants from socialist countries south of us. 3. Medulla Oblongata   2 years ago

In an interview with In Search of Aztlán on 8 August 1999, José Ángel Gutiérrez, a political science professor at the University of Texas at Arlington, stated:

We're the only ethnic group in America that has been dismembered. We didn't migrate here or immigrate here voluntarily. The United States came to us in succeeding waves of invasions. We are a captive people, in a sense, a hostage people. It is our political destiny and our right to self-determination to want to have our homeland [back]. Whether they like it or not is immaterial. If they call us radicals or subversives or separatists, that's their problem. This is our home, and this is our homeland, and we are entitled to it. We are the host. Everyone else is a guest.... It is not our fault that whites don't make babies, and blacks are not growing in sufficient numbers, and there's no other groups with such a goal to put their homeland back together again. We do. Those numbers will make it possible. I believe that in the next few years, we will see an irredentists movement, beyond assimilation, beyond integration, beyond separatism, to putting Mexico back together as one. That's irridentism [sic]. One Mexico, one nation.[12]

In an interview with the Star-Telegram in October 2000, Gutiérrez stated that many recent Mexican immigrants "want to recreate all of Mexico and join all of Mexico into one. And they are going to do that, even if it's just demographically.... They are going to have political sovereignty over the Southwest and many parts of the Midwest."[13] In a videotape made by the Immigration Watchdog website, as cited in The Washington Times, Gutiérrez was quoted as saying, "We are millions. We just have to survive. We have an aging white America. They are not making babies. They are dying. It's a matter of time. The explosion is in our population."

          4. Medulla Oblongata   2 years ago

Illegal immigration to the Southwest is sometimes viewed as a form of Reconquista in light of the fact that Texas statehood was preceded by an influx of US settlers into that Mexican province until US citizens outnumbered Mexicans ten–to-one and took over the area's governance. The theory is that the reverse will happen when Mexicans eventually become so numerous in the region that they wield substantial influence, including political power.[15] Even if it is not intended, some analysts say the significant demographic shift in the Southwest may result in "a de facto reconquista." Political scientist Samuel P. Huntington, a proponent of the widespread popularity of Reconquista, stated in 2004:

Demographically, socially and culturally, the reconquista (re-conquest) of the Southwest United States by Mexican immigrants is well under way. [However, a] meaningful move to reunite these territories with Mexico seems unlikely.... No other immigrant group in U.S. history has asserted or could assert a historical claim to U.S. territory. Mexicans and Mexican-Americans can and do make that claim.[16]

The neoliberal political writer Mickey Kaus remarked:

Reconquista is a little—a little extreme. If you talk to people in Mexico, I'm told, if you get them drunk in a bar, they'll say we're taking it back, sorry. That's not an uncommon sentiment in Mexico, so why can't we take it seriously here?... This is like a Quebec problem if France was next door to Canada.

No, he's not. He's pointing out that the Democrats' theory that every new Latinx that manifests xemselves upon this nation was a guaranteed "Democrat" hence their desire to open the border. That was real, that was their theory, and it's written in memos, mentioned in interviews and discussed publicly all over the place. Overt is pointing out that it hasn't exactly worked out that way. And even I, alt-right, knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing nativist has suggested as much by pointing out that the rainbow flags tend to get put in the linen closet when the Muslims (Democrats) start taking majorities of city councils, and lgbtqi2map+ education materials get put into the shredder

Merely pointing out that the Democrats and the WEF were promoting the Great Replacement theory doesn't mean it'll work out the way they want.

    2. Red Rocks White Privilege   2 years ago

Except it was only deemed a "crackpot theory" if a Republican was merely pointing out what Democrats were boasting about for the last generation--that mass immigration would turn the US permanently blue. It's one of the central tenets of "The New Democratic Majority" that has been a blueprint for the party in that timeframe, including the ongoing absorption of upper and upper middle class professional whites as the party standard-bearers.

To the extent that hasn't been the case is mainly due to a couple of factors that Judis and Teixeira didn't foresee--the ongoing Great Sorting of red and blue states (which is why Obama and Biden focused on dumping "refugees" in red-voting areas to counteract this) and the gynocentric nature of Current Year US culture, as men overall have grown more conservative while women have become more leftist, especially since Trump's election.

      1. sarcasmic   2 years ago

as men overall have grown more conservative while women have become more leftist, especially since Trump’s election.

I don’t think that’s remotely true because Trump isn’t a conservative, therefore increased support for Trump among men does not mean men are becoming more conservative. No, I think it’s that Trump is attracting more men by tapping to emotions like hatred and fear with his constant attacks on “leftists” (anyone who doesn’t support him), immigrants and foreign producers. While the left is tapping into more feminine emotions through their stated support for things like fairness and equality.

      California crime wave solved!

      https://pjnewsletter.com/disabled-navy-vet-bubble

Over the past few decades, California has been completely taken over by radical liberals who are simply incompetent when it comes to running a state. Instead of trying to fix the actual problems plaguing California, which include rampant crime and homelessness, the leftists who are in charge of the state choose to focus their energy on one ridiculously woke task after another.

This was just shown once again when a disabled Navy veteran who is known as the “Bubble Pirate” was ticketed by California officials. He was issued this citation for “fluid littering.”

Sandy Snakenberg, 63, has been known as the “Bubble Pirate” for the last ten years. He loves dressing up as a pirate and putting on creative bubble performances to entertain local communities.

Snakenberg describes himself as a “bubble-ologist.” He lives out of his van, where he stores everything that he uses for his bubble performances.

“I was just enjoying blowing the simple bubbles that you blow and people walking by were enjoying them,” he lamented to KSWB-TV. “I got kind of hooked sharing the joy of it.”

Sadly, Snakenberg recently found himself being targeted by the San Diego Parks and Recreation Department.

      From The Blaze:
Last week, Snakenberg was performing his usual “Bubble Pirate” show at La Jolla Cove in San Diego, California.

A ranger with the San Diego Parks and Recreation Department issued Snakenberg a ticket for “littering prohibited fluids” on the park grounds. The Bubble Pirate allegedly asked the park ranger to note on the ticket that the liquid in question was from bubbles, but the officer did not oblige.

With all the problems currently facing California, THIS is what officials are focused on cracking down on right now?!

The bubbles that Snakenberg uses for his performances are just made up of water and soap. It seems that this would make it harmless to have them be in outdoor public spaces. Clearly, however, the San Diego Parks and Recreation Department does not agree.

"Teacher Who Refused to Refer to Students by 'Preferred Pronouns' Jailed for the Third Time"

A teacher in Ireland who refused to refer to his students by their “preferred pronouns” was jailed for the third time.

To recap, two years ago, Townhall covered how Enoch Burke, a history and German teacher in Ireland, was arrested for violating a court order prohibiting him from teaching or being present at Wilson’s Hospital School, the school where he taught.

This all started when he refused to address a “transgender” student as “they” instead of “he.” As a result, the school placed him on administrative leave “pending the outcome of a disciplinary process.”

Justice Michael Quinn ruled Sept. 2 that Burke was in “ongoing contempt” of previous court orders and must remain incarcerated in Mountjoy Prison until he agrees to comply, the newspaper reported.

Burke accused the court of trampling his religious rights during Monday’s proceedings.

“This is a mockery of justice,” he told Quinn, arguing that his Christian beliefs about gender were being penalized, according to Sky News.

Reportedly, Burke has already spent more than 400 days in prison during two previous incarcerations.

Irish teacher Enoch Burke refused to refer to a male student by she/her pronouns due to his Christian faith.

After the incident, he was fired. When he tried to show up at work, he was jailed.

He will remain in prison indefinitely unless he complies with a court order that would ban him from that school forever.

    https://townhall.com/tipsheet/miacathell/2024/09/07/never-walz-booth-minnesota-state-fair-n2644250

Tim Walz's own Minnesota residents are turning against him.

As the Democrat governor headed home to see the Minnesota State Fair this week, Walz was met with an unwelcoming sight: the "Never Walz" booth, surrounded by a swarm of Minnesotans.

"You landed on COVID Snitch Line!" a volunteer behind the booth shouted, as observed by an Alpha News reporter attending the festival.

"You just missed Stolen Valor!" an attendee added.

Aside from the aforementioned, "Child Trans Surgeries," "Burning Minneapolis," "Mask Mandate," and "Small Businesses Crushed" were among the eight slices on the spinning wheel representing either controversial policies Walz supports or consequences of his actions as the Gopher State's governor.

Nearby, a booth operated by the state's Democratic Party, the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, was set up supplying Harris-Walz merch, including "Childless Cat Lady for Kamala" pins. Other items included "Stop Regulating My Body '24" T-shirts, "Land of 10,000 Rights" tops, and rainbow Minnesota-Pride pins. Meanwhile, abortion and transgender tees sold out at the DFL stall.

The anti-Walz booth, now in its fourth year, is funded by a conservative grassroots group called Action 4 Liberty, which has long been leading the effort in Minnesota to expose Walz's "thirst for power." In the past, the non-profit organization hung signs calling out Walz's COVID-19 militancy.

"We Minnesotans know Walz best. He pretends to be some folksy Midwesterner, but he's a thin-skinned, power-drunk tyrant that has destroyed our state and has repeatedly violated Minnesotan's liberties," Action 4 Liberty leader and former Republican Minnesota state Rep. Erik Mortensen told Fox News Digital when asked about the motivation behind the booth.

WILSON, WY — Former Vice President Dick Cheney, who famously started two wars in the Middle East and shot a dude in the face while hunting, now says Donald Trump is the greatest threat America has ever faced.

"Donald Trump is an evil reprobate and a big meanie, and a danger to our Constitutional rights," growled the retired politician who orchestrated the brutal torture of hundreds of detainees who were held without trial. "We must make sure he never gets elected to office again. And also, vote for my daughter, Liz."

    August job reports:

Fewer jobs were added to the U.S. economy in August than expected, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released Friday.

The U.S. added 142,000 nonfarm payroll jobs last month, short of the 165,000 economists predicted, and the unemployment rate fell to 4.2 percent from 4.3 percent.

But the health and safety and environmental and indigenous cultural heritage reviews would mean it would never get off the ground.

          “…indigenous cultural heritage reviews…”

Pretty sure this is covered in the Constitution:
“Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of a religion…”

          1. BYODB   2 years ago

While it's hard to say what words mean these days, normal people would hopefully not consider 'cultural heritage' and 'religion' to necessarily be the same things. Related, perhaps, but not synonymous.

Usually in this type of context 'cultural heritage' means 'ruins, graveyards, and cave paintings' and that type of thing.

That said, pretty sure Lake Mead has some American graveyards under it, as well as at least one former American town.

I'd really rather have seen them both neck and neck somewhere else... for example a pit of quicksand, but alas watching them make fools of themselves on national TV will have to do.

Other TDS-addled shits tend to agree.

They're both pretty bad, but one is light years less bad than the other on every issue libertarians care about. So there's that.

      1. n00bdragon   2 years ago

Isn't that like saying that Jack the Ripper is light years better with women than Ted Bundy?

        1. Ajsloss   2 years ago

Doesn't make it less true, I suppose.

        2. Sevo, 5-30-24, embarrassment   2 years ago

TDS-addled shit compares Trump to a murderer! Surprise, surprise!
          FOAD, asshole.

        3. I, Woodchipper   2 years ago

your analogy falls flat because there are no libertarian women

      2. Sevo, 5-30-24, embarrassment   2 years ago

        "They’re both pretty bad,..."
Disagreed. Please point to a better POTUS than Trump in the last 100 years and show your work.

        1. Zeb   2 years ago

That is still insufficient to disprove "pretty bad".

          1. Sevo, 5-30-24, embarrassment   2 years ago

So reality is tough, do I have that right?

          2. Sevo, 5-30-24, embarrassment   2 years ago

For those fantasizing about some (L)ibertarian candidate somehow winning the POTUS race, pretty sure it was in the now defunct “Liberty” magazine where the obvious truth was first presented:
            “Utopia is not an option”.
This is a valuable concept when dealing with ignoramuses demanding “free” medical-care, along with dealing with the equally deluded TDS-addled ignoramuses like n00bdragon and Zeb; the latter assholes claiming some desire for liberty.
We get to deal with reality, not your fantasies or your imbecility.
FOAD, assholes; make the world a better place. And STFU; you are making asses of yourselves.

Most people don’t understand that we’ve essentially made infrastructure projects illegal.

Any proposal to build new rail, bridges, dams, or ports and canals has to go through the same multi-year, multi-billion dollar review process as

Horrifying: Illegal Alien Admits to Raping, Kidnapping Louisiana Teenager at Knifepoint

An illegal alien in Louisiana admitted to kidnapping and raping a 13-year-old girl in Louisiana, according to report from the New York Post.

The illegal, Diego Rodriguez-Salvador, 23, was arrested Sept. 4 for allegedly luring the minor into his vehicle before driving her to his home in Kenner and raping her.

Reportedly, Rodriguez-Salvador, from Honduras, asked the girl to ride with him to a nearby store. The 13-year-old was his friend’s sister.

Once the 13-year-old got into the car, she noticed Rodriguez-Salvador began driving the wrong direction. Then, he pulled out a knife, raped her, and dropped her off in her neighborhood before speeding off.

Kenner police Chief Keith Conley described him as “a ghost,” saying that very little was known about him besides the fact that he was from Honduras and in the country illegally, the outlet reported. It was not known when he entered the US.

“Diego has undocumented status in the United States and detectives are working closely with Homeland Security Investigations to obtain any additional information that could assist in his identification or apprehension,” the Kenner Police Department said in a statement.

Late last month, Townhall reported how a previously deported illegal alien from Mexico reportedly raped a 10-year-old boy in Mississippi.

The Pontotoc County Sheriff's Department confirmed in a Facebook post that the suspect, Filiberto Gonzalez is an illegal alien.

The 13-year-old was his friend’s sister.

Call me a nationalist exercising my white cultural privilege or whatever but shouldn't this at least be 'presumptive' or 'assumed' or 'former' 'friend'?

Or is the person still friends with the person he, apparently knows nothing about other than the fact that he was an illegal Honduran immigrant who raped his sister?

National Polls are completely meaningless and frankly stupid attempt to influence the election. State polls are more indicative, but even then Democrats are historically over polled so Trump is more likely a few points higher than the poll indicates. It is also more probably that there are hidden Trump supporters who are not willing to reveal their choice than shy Harris supporters. It will probably be a close election, but at this point, I would say that Trump is more likely to win than Harris.

National Polls are completely meaningless and frankly stupid attempt to influence the election.

I disagree slightly. Yes, the tea leaves don't predict jack shit. That said, unless I'm paying someone to flip over tarot cards, rub their crystal ball, and read the leaves, the theatrics tell me who they think is winning or who they think I/we should hear is winning.

  57. JohnZ   2 years ago

    Polls are bull shit.
How can anyone favor someone who failed so miserably at her first attempt in politics and failed ever more miserably at her job?

"Just think of all the stupid people there are and some of them are stupider than that." George Carlin.

  58. jagjr   2 years ago

“Trump is technically in the lead, clinching 48 percent of likely voters to Harris’ 47 percent. This poll, which has a margin of error of three percentage points”

that means that "technically" no one is in the lead. it’s within the error bars. it means nothing.
