The Wave of Political Violence Has No End in Sight
Politics have become too high stakes for Americans to back away from the brink.

The recent attempted assassination of Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump, which resulted in the death of one rally attendee and injuries to the candidate and two others, was not an isolated event. The high profile incident occurred against a backdrop of lower-level attacks and violent protests across the country that indicate too many Americans are increasingly willing to exchange battles over ideas for fists, bullets, and firebombs. It's a sign of an existential political climate in which nobody thinks they can afford to lose—or that opponents can be allowed to win.

Not-So-Isolated Incidents
"A Michigan man used an all-terrain vehicle to run over and critically injure an 80-year-old man who was putting a Trump sign in his yard, in what police have described as a politically motivated attack," the BBC reported July 23. The apparent attacker killed himself after calling police to confess to the crime.
Just days later, anti-Israel protesters vandalized property and battled police in Washington, D.C. in what has become almost a matter of routine.
The partisan Michigan attacker, the mysteriously motivated would-be assassin, and the subset of protesters who cross the line don't really represent mass endorsements of violence. They're often lone actors or extremists within their own movements. But no majority vote is required before people and property are attacked. It just takes somebody willing to get physical, and too many meet that bar.
Politics Plagued by a Violent Minority
Last month, the University of Chicago's Robert A. Pape, a professor of political science who studies political violence, released the results of a study on Americans' attitudes towards using violent means to achieve political ends. What he found is that 10 percent of respondents agree "the use of force is justified to prevent Donald Trump from becoming president." Opposing them are 6.9 percent of respondents who agree "the use of force is justified to restore Donald Trump to the presidency."
When questions about justifying violence are given broader scope, researchers find larger numbers open to its use. Last year a study from the Violence Prevention Research Program at the University of California, Davis found "one-third of respondents…considered violence to be usually or always justified to advance at least 1 of 17 specific political objectives," including preventing discrimination based on race or ethnicity and preserving an American way of life based on Western European traditions.
The good news is that even the larger numbers still represent a minority of the population, outnumbered by those who prefer to keep bullets and bombs out of their political discourse. The bad news is it only takes one person to target a candidate or run over a homeowner putting a sign on his lawn. And it only takes one, or a handful, to stage any of the myriad lower-profile incidents that suggest we're in a cycle of political strife.
Rising Tide of Threats and Attacks
In March, a California man pled guilty to firebombing a Costa Mesa Planned Parenthood clinic—the third suspect to do so in that crime. They had planned other attacks that were thwarted by their arrests.
In January, the Center of the American Experiment, the Upper Midwest Law Center, and TakeCharge—three Minnesota conservative groups—were targeted by arsonists in what was believed to be an act of political terrorism. The organizations are offering a $100,000 reward "for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals who started the arson fires."
A car belonging to a Portland, Oregon, city commissioner's family was torched outside his home just weeks before that. In response, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt warned "acts of political violence and acts of political vandalism are unacceptable and will not be tolerated."
Gonzalez is far from alone in being violently targeted by people who disagree with him.
"The number of threats to public officials is growing," according to a May data review from the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point. "While 2013-2016 had an average of 38 federal charges per year, that number sharply increased to an average of 62 charges per year between 2017-2022."
The review added that ideological motivations could be confirmed for roughly half the cases, and that "the number of federal prosecutions is on pace to hit new record highs" this year.
High Stakes Politics and Rising Illiberalism
Much of this is the result of the rising tensions of recent years. Political factions have gone from opposing each other to despising each other and considering opponents too vile and dangerous to be allowed to win office and exercise power. That political leaders tear not just into each other, but into whole segments of the population they perceive as alien understandably reinforces fears of the criminal justice system and the regulatory state in the hands of enemies.
Added to that is the abandonment of liberal ideas about restrained government and tolerance by both the left and the right. In their place are thuggish ideologies that leave little room for dissent.
"On the left, a new crop of socialists hope to overthrow the liberal economic order, while the rise of intersectional identity politics has supplanted longstanding commitments to civil liberties," Reason's Stephanie Slade wrote in 2022. "On the right, support for free markets and free trade are more and more often derided as relics of a bygone century, while quasi-theocratic ideas are gathering support."
That creates an environment in which violence might become just another tactic for people who consider their causes of overriding importance. In January, The New York Times interviewed Andreas Malm, a celebrity activist who advocates for political violence on behalf of climate causes. He clarifies that he supports targeting property, not people, but "can't guarantee that it won't come with accidents."
He also thinks his opponents shouldn't be allowed to use the same tactics in return, saying "the idea that if you object to your enemy's use of a method, you therefore also have to reject your own use of this method would lead to absurd conclusions."
Malm, it should be noted, is Swedish. And that points to the fact that America isn't alone in seeing activists adopt violence as a preferred means of achieving results.
"American political violence has much in common with that taking place in Germany and India, as well as in France's most recent election," Rachel Kleinfeld recently noted in Foreign Affairs.
Shared misery is cold comfort, but it may be the only kind available right now.

As a purely philosophical question political violence is justifiable. This nation came into being through political violence.
The nation wasn’t founded on politics! In fact the opposite. The nation was founded on the principles of freedom enshrined in a constitution for the people. ALL the people.
Politics is obsolete.
Left and right are artificial constructs designed to occupy and weaken the will of the people in perpetual conflict.
Nothing in nature exists as equal and opposite or is as divisive as politics.
Politics is controlled and manipulated by corrupt elites who win regardless who is elected. They are the secret society puppeteers who absolutely recognize the people as puppets.
When you’re a hammer, everything is a nail.
They only exist in an environment of lies and secrecy. Only criminalizing lying will expose and demonstrate their counterproductive effect on society.
Recognize the unpleasant truth of politics and act on it, or ignore it like a puppet in the bliss of ignorance.
The red pill or the blue pill.
Refuted!
What do any of you fuckwits hope to achieve by repeatedly demonstrating your stupidity?
How’s it working for you?
I’m not tiring of it. Hahaha
Refuted!
Refuted!
FOAD, Nazi shit-pile.
As more and more people recognize the depravity that Israel, Jews, exhibit especially the holocaust they’re committing in Gaza with the help of their puppets in the US government, your shrill bleating naaazi has all the effect of a wooden nickel.
Refuted!
When we criminalize lying, we won’t necessarily need to chase down every politicians latest lie, having long forgotten the myriad of lies they told to achieve their power.
No, we only need to prove one to convict them and kick them out of their positions of influence.
When you consider that elected officials are backed up by deadly force, assassination is quite justifiable — on both sides!
I guess the point is that even if the election goes against you, you can still avoid bodily harm by complying with whatever they demand of you. Same as if someone's stealing from you, you're not justified in killing or dealing them bodily harm. Anyone's bodily harm is deemed to be worse than any amount of non-bodily harm.
Sure, if you want your society to devolve into feuding warlords.
If you prefer civilization, you can have spirited disagreements about policies, then hold a (hopefully fair) election to see which side convinced the most citizens. And hold the politicians to task if they violate the constitutional restraints on dishing out violence.
Meanwhile Trump is promising his followers that they will "never have to vote again" if he wins the election. It's like he's taking lessons from Maduro or something.
“Meanwhile Trump is promising his followers that they will “never have to vote again” ”
“fine people on both sides” on line 2 for you sir…
its got the same energy 😉
You guys take knowingly taking thinks out of context to a pure art form, touche. What is the median IQ for someone to fall for that, 90 or so?
Not just elected officials but unelected nameless bureaucrats with way too much power.
The Wave of
Political ViolenceFiery but Mostly Peaceful Protests Has No End in SightSomebody isn't going to get that invite to a cocktail party.
The only plausible resolution to this conflict - the decentralization of power - flies in the face of the agenda of one of the sides, whose ideology is specifically predicated on the centralization of power by an enlightened managerial technocracy.
WHY WON'T YOU OBEY YOUR BETTERS?!?
Never mind your betters, what about the bettors? Harris is close to pulling even with Trump in the election betting action!
It's boaf sides that want a centralization of power in the hands of the person of the president. Certainly the Democrats want a managerial technocracy, but the Republicans want a Strong Man who will ignore Congress and the courts and just do what his followers want. Populism is all about centralization of power.
Major leftist cope there buddy.
Democrats demanded Trump shut down the country. They were begging him to increase his power. He said no.
Mostly right, but ignoring the courts seems to be Biden's thing.
Yeah, Trump was so out of line when he threatened to thwart Congress with his 'he has a pen and a phone' line. I was so mad.
And when Trump kept pushing for forgiving student loans regardless of being told what he was doing was unconstitutional. I was so mad.
Oh wait...
Weird how as always, what you clowns accuse Trump of doing, your masters are actually doing.
Super weird.
Populism is all about centralization of power.
That’s some Grade A “We have always been at war with East Asia”, "100% safe and effective, with no downsides", "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor." Newspeak right there.
"Funny" that Mr. Tucelle can write an entire article about political violence without mentioning Jan. 6, 2021, nor that the U.S. Supreme Court has issued two decisions deliberately intended to prevent Donald Trump from being held accountable for his seditious acts on that date.
The forest for the trees.
I know right. The incident that caused 100k in damages and cops killed 2 of them is the worst thing to happen in American history. Unlike the 20+ murders and 2B in damages from the summer of love on the left.
Worse than Pearl Harbor, 9/11, and the Civil War combined!!!
Yeah, remind me again who cheated to win in 2020 and who recently tried to assassinate the opposition. Oh, that’s right… you just did.-
The choice is clear: the lying, cheating, thieving, attempted-murdering swamp or Trump. Nice to know which side you're on, scumbag.
Boots on the desk!
Because Trump made no seditious acts that date, for starters. And 5/29 was markedly more violent than 1/6 --- but leftists did it so, as per usual, it's all OK.
I also doubt we will see the FBI rounding up people who defaced monuments in DC in support of Hamas years later.
but leftists did it so, as per usual, it’s all OK.
It's (D)ifferent.
"“Funny” that Mr. Tucelle can write an entire article about political violence without mentioning Jan. 6, 2021..."
Perhaps that's because the only violence there was the murder of an un-armed woman by a cop, you slime pile of TDS addled shit.
People casually walking between ropes in a building is now violence just like speech is violence depending on who is speaking not on what was said
Your side bombed the building twice, Alan. You have no high horse to ride here.
An offshoot of the Students for a Democratic Society was responsible for the 1983 bombing of the Senate Building. In 1968 college students demanded a rebuttal speaker to a Commencement speech. The SDS pushed for this speaker. The speaker was Hilary Rodham. On Bill Clinton's last day in office he commuted the jail sentences of the last two people in jail for the Senate Building bombing. Going further the Weather Underground was one of the off shoots from the SDS. Two members of that group are well known. Bill Ayres and Bernadine Dorn. Barack Obama referred to Ayres as one of his 'Mentors".
'What he found is that 10 percent of respondents agree "the use of force is justified to prevent Donald Trump from becoming president."'
And what percentage agree that the use of voting and vote counting shenanigans is justified, even if they totally would never happen?
Too many, and by any means necessary.
“Hunter Biden literally could have had the corpses of children in his basement, I would not have cared. There’s nothing, it’s Hunter Biden, it’s not Joe Biden. Whatever the scope of Joe Biden’s corruption is…it is infinitesimal compared to the corruption we know Trump is involved in. It’s like a firefly to the sun.
Now that doesn’t answer the people who say ‘it’s still completely unfair to not have looked at the laptop in a timely way and to have shut down the New York Post’s Twitter account. Like that, that’s a left-wing conspiracy to deny the presidency to Donald Trump.’ Absolutely it was. But I think it was warranted.”
Sam Harris
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/sam-harris-trump-comments-podcast-b2148761.html
Careful. Sam will say you took him out of context. By giving his own words. In context.
"Whatever the scope of Joe Biden’s corruption is…it is infinitesimal compared to the corruption we know Trump is involved in."
We do? It more likely seems that Harris is describing the level of Trump's corruption he needs to believe exists rather than anything which is definitively known. You cannot argure with the man about this poistion because it is inherently irrational.

A) 2019 LA Times
B)“There’s no substantiated or credible allegation that I know of that Hunter Biden’s work was personally financially benefiting Joe Biden,” said Robert Maguire
That he knows of.
LA Times berating Trump while defending Sniffer in Chief.
Hilarious.
"it is infinitesimal compared to the corruption we know Trump is involved in.”
I like how the big lie method absolutely got proven to be true with the propaganda against Trump.
We were absolutely certain, as a country, that Trump colluded with Russia to steal the election...until we werent. And even then, it was never an admission that it was always cope and no truth, just memory holed.
And then you have so called big brains like Harris put forward assertions like he does above. What evidence does he even have of corruption? The fact that he, as well as most of America, was 1000% sure Trump was involved in all of the illegal things, despite having the most thorough legal investigative colonoscopies in the history of this country only to find he didnt cross all the T's on his pornstar fucking NDA.
And its not weird at all for someone brainwashed in this fashion, to see that there was an open classified documents case for a PRESIDENT doing things most presidents have done in the past, while someone who was VP at the time had boxes of classified documents sitting in his garage. Its not at all weird that he would be pursued for illegal election contributions while we have blatantly obvious multiple serial 10,000$ donations to Biden/Harris from people that dont seem to have 1000$ in the bank. Its not weird at all to criticize him for having his daughter get business favors from China or his son in law having an active role in the admin, while Biden's crackhead son is placed on the energy board of a nation known for flagrant corruption receiving millions despite having no appreciable skills.
There is no chance we are being fed a massively one sided story by people motivated to see Trump fail and are friendly with his opponent. That never seems to cross Harris' mind.
Well, I guess Malm gets points for self-awareness. Most of the "punch a Nazi" crowd seem to be convinced that only their opponents deserve violence, that only their opponents will receive violence, and that it will never get out of control and all right-thinking people are on their side.
^This^ More specifically, the climate cult believes that they are defending the birds, bees, and trees, as well as “vulnerable” people who are oppressed by evil white capitalism.
Every election since I was a child old enough to be aware of politics, over five decades, was seen as a referendum on civilization itself. The candidates represented the literal worst, depending on which side. Occasionally a candidate would show up so much worse I thought the body politic itself would have an aneurysm. But every four years it got worse. And worse. And worse.
Or did it? I consider Trump vs Hillary to be the single worst election ever, due to it having the two most hated candidates who had ever lived. But the fault is not the that of the candidates, the fault is the electorate. Somehow we trick ourselve into thinking that every election is an existential crisis, as if Hitler and Stalin were literally rolling dice over the fate of the universe.
As a libertarian (and of-and-on-again LP member) I've never had a one of my picks for POTUS win since Reagan. And I had to hold my nose to vote for him. So under the existentialist view of politics, my viewpoint should be that civilization literally ended forty years ago. But clearly it didn't.
But I did get used to my candidates not winning. Ever. So maybe this has led me to the extremely unpopular opinion that perhaps, just maybe, we can survive 2024 if the other candidates manages to win.
I lived through eight years of Obama, eight years of Junior before him, then eight years of Clinton. Every one of these declared to be the absolute worst president of all time. Yet I survived. And thrived.
The problem is not the candidates, the problem is that all of the power in the world is now held in the hands of one president, with the checks against that power crumbling away. And yet all anyone can do is angrily demand even more power to the POTUS. Crazy.
Civilization ends when people stop acting civilized.
Which was sometime in 2020.
I stopped voting in part because I could accurately tell the outcome of an election by taking the inverse of my ballot. At this point I’m convinced that many people vote not for what they believe is best, but rather for what they think will win.
Of course we all know how violent those on the political right are. Right?
The amount of political violence caused by the radical left wing extremists and even to the extent where politicians ( Mad Maxine, Nancy and AOC ) encouraged it without any ramifications, has been the worst since the 1968 democratic convention in Chicago.
And yet, all we hear about is right wing extremism and violence. This how the leftists sow confusion, by using the tactics espoused by Saul Alinsky, called projection.
Sooner or later the shit's gonna hit the fan.
Back in 2018, 575 protesters were arrested for their part in a protest on the Capitol grounds. Elizabeth Warren worked the crowd up outside before the protest, and was seen overlooking the crowd cheering them on inside the building
This article has Se. Warren outside the building speaking to the crowd of protesters.
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/kavanaugh-protesters-arrested-at-capitol-after-thousands-march-on-supreme-court
[Elizabeth Warren speaks Thursday at an anti-Brett Kavanaugh rally outside the Barrett Prettyman Courthouse in Washington, where Kavanaugh currently works as a United States Circuit Judge.]
This article (seemingly unrelated) includes the image of Warren, with rage on her face, cheering on the protesters inside the Hart building as they are resisting arrest.

[Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) cheers on protesters engaging in a sit-in. ]
I had copied the text and image at the time, which is good because both are missing from google searches except for use by BI and Al Jazeera as just some picture of Warren.
Because it's (D)ifferent, those protesters were sent home with barely a slap on the wrist.
"The United States Capitol Police charged approximately 575 people with unlawfully demonstrating, a misdemeanor punishable by a $50 fine, according to a police spokeswoman. Those arrested included Representative Pramila Jayapal, Democrat of Washington, and the actress Susan Sarandon. Organizers said more than 2,500 women from 47 states participated in the protest.
The fines were paid by Democrat PAC's. It was all pre-arranged.
Tuccille really knows how to spring a surprise: LOOTER KLEPTOCRACY FACTIONS BOTH FAVOR INITIATION OF FORCE! This in a publication for folks who reject "the initiation of force to achieve political or social goals." Truly a "no shit, Sherlock" moment in libertarian history. Then again, republicans have shed their violent criminals onto the LP as the Jesus Caucus, which regards a female taking a contraceptive as deliberate premeditated murder which justifies Robert Dear Army Of Ghawd attacks on women's clinics.
Tucille is a regime cuck.
I'd say one significant issue is that only one side seems to get punished.
The BLM rioters were PAID for destroying cities.
And celebrated by some woman named Kamala Harris.
June 2020 the COVID shutdown had backed off enough that friends of mine were able to have their wedding. I'm picking up my tux at a clothing shop when I notice an AR-15 behind the counter. I asked the owner if he was expecting trouble and he said that there was supposed to be a BLM protest that day. A bit later six coach busses pull into a parking lot. People get out, signs and shirts are passed out and they are organized into groups. There were sandwiches and drinks. They even had people designated as Medics. Every one of them had a Philly or New Jersey accent. Think about it. Busses, 300+ miles of travel, professionally printed signs and shirts, food, drinks and other things. This isn't cheap. BLM was supposed to be a "grass roots" effort. Who's footing the bill for this?
When the same shit moved into Coeur d'Alene, ID, about a 1000 armed citizens showed up to protect local businesses.
Guess who was butchered in the media?
>>It's a sign of an existential political climate in which nobody thinks they can afford to lose—or that opponents can be allowed to win.
it's a sign the communists are reaping the benefits of their chaos
Democrats did it first so that makes it ok.
If the leftists are violent, it's because Trump incited violence.
If the right-wingers are violent, it's because they're worse than Hitler.
"If the right-wingers are violent, it’s because they’re worse than Hitler." or it's a figment of the Leftists' imagination.
No, it's not an excuse, but neither is it "whataboutism". Violence by protesters in the seat of government (these buildings are essentially exenstions of the Capitol building), occupying those building, protesting that government, entering the private workspaces of the House and Senate, accosting Congressfolk, none of that is cool. The point it is was always a non-event, a big "meh" over the years, until Trump folks did it. The double standard applied is immeasurable. Protesters in Portland, Seattle, etc. have set fire to multiple federal buildings, including courthouses, and the media *defended* them. Do we not remember the CHOP, which seceded from the country and formed its own government, run by a rapper turned veritable warlord?
I'm not saying "It's OK what the Trump folks did because looks what other folks did" What they did was inexcusable, and I hope every single one of the people who broke into the Capitol are prosecuted fully (meanwhile leaving alone the several tens of thousands who had nothing to do with the chaos, despite having been "incited") for the trespassing offenses and vandalism that occurred. The petty prosecutions and piling on of charges and stupidly long sentences being doled out are NOT justice.
I'm saying "It's not ok what they did, but there should not be a double standard, relative to say, BLM protests that burned down cities, murdered a number of cops, injured hundreds of cops, murdered a score of civilians, burned and looted businesses to the tune of $2B or so in damages, with violent riots nightly for weeks. Hollywood actors literally paid the bail of people arrested during those riots. The media gave us the term "mostly peaceful protests" while the were literally standing in front of burning buildings. Liberals donated millions to the cause. Chants like “Pigs in a blanket, fry ’em like bacon!” and "What do we want? Dead cops. When do we want it? Now." were not uncommon.
Do you even remember this? Barely covered: "Last week, a gunman in Dallas opened fire on police at the end of a Black Lives Matter demonstration, killing five officers and wounding several others. Micah Johnson, the shooter, told a hostage negotiator that he was angry on behalf of Black Lives Matter and “wanted to kill white people, especially police officers.” Johnson’s Facebook page revealed an affinity for black nationalism, and he followed a Facebook group called the “African American Defense League,” which encouraged followers to “ATTACK EVERYTHING IN BLUE EXCEPT THE MAIL MAN” and “sprinkle Pigs Blood.”
And in Castile’s St. Paul, Minn., more than 100 protesters were arrested when protesters used an overpass over Interstate 94 to throw rocks and rebar at police, injuring 21 officers, including one who suffered broken vertebrae when a concrete block was dropped on him from above. When one officer was injured, protesters cheered: “One piggly-wiggly down!”
The Capitol riot involved maybe 400-500 people out of multiple thousands there, involved a few broken windows, and relatively little damage or theft and was over in about 4 hours. As I said, 5 people died (including one officer, with claims that he was beaten to death with a fire extinguisher were not true; a fire extinguisher was shown being thrown in video of the events, Officer Singer died later of unrelated causes). 14 officers were injured. In a Kafkaesque media twist, one officer who was present that day committed suicide some days later, but is now being included in the death toll (needs a Facebook warning on that claim, as there is as far as I can tell *zero* evidence that his suicide was related to the "coup" as the media calls it).
Time Magazine tells us that "93% of Black Lives Matter Protests Have Been Peaceful". What percentage of Trump rallies have had violence, how many protesters in D.C engaged in the riot? What percent were they that day?
If you're disgusted and angry ONLY at the Capitol riot and not equally so about all of these violent events, or ONLY about the BLM protests and not upset about the Capitol riot, then I don't know what to say.
Those protesters did NOT break into the Capitol Building, they were let in by the Capitol Police.
The only violence that occurred was by the police who shot and killed Ashly Babbit and another woman.
This peaceful protest was blown way out of proportion by the leftist media. But,but AOC was threatened with murder.....
Anyone who accepts anything the legacy media reports is a down right fool.
"Anyone who accepts anything the legacy media reports is a down right fool."
Those J6 rioters in jail now pleaded guilty. That's how we know not to take them seriously. Hitler also was involved in a failed insurrection, once upon a time. At least he had the integrity and commitment to plead innocent.
Got some news for you. Those "guilty pleas" are being reviewed after a Supreme Court decision. Prosecutors unjustifiably used a charge that carried a 20 year prison sentence. It was this charge that made many people take a plea agreement.
https://www.scotusblog.com/2024/06/justices-rule-for-jan-6-defendant/#:~:text=The%20Supreme%20Court%20on%20Friday,6%2C%202021%2C%20attacks.
" Prosecutors unjustifiably used a charge that carried a 20 year prison sentence."
All the more reason to plead not guilty. The decision to plead guilty in the hopes of some day a Supreme Court will set everything right, is profoundly wrong headed and naive.
If Trump is elected I’m sure he’ll pardon them.
Prosecutors do that to everyone. It’s how the system works. They threaten unjust punishment to force a plea, even if they know the person is innocent. How else do they get to a position where they can run for president?
Indeed, yes. This is another reason why O'Biden and his komrades are attacking the SCOTUS, they will scream and whimper if the Court decides all those people were unjustly imprisoned.
Free the Jan. 6 100 million!
This is what Trump's populism comes down to. Popular sentiment is brushed aside and ignored. There are no calls for popular activism, protests or demonstrations. We're are left with the pathetic faith that 9 elitist sinecures will pull our chestnuts out of the fire. Thanks JohnZ for your vivid depiction of Trump's topsy-turvy idea of populism.
The part that Trump’s followers never mention is that these people intended to overturn the presidential election that they still claim was stolen. As much as they try to deny or minimize it, they can’t make it untrue. That’s what separates them from all the other civil unrest. A combination of trying to steal the election and justifying it by claiming it was stolen. In their brainwashed minds what they did ok because Democrats did it first. That’s why I keep saying that. It’s because that’s what people really believe.
The difference is intent. Yes the left causes more damage and mayhem. But when they protest and riot they aren’t trying to overthrow the government.
Bullshit and you know it.
"That’s what separates them from all the other civil unrest. "
Ya that, and they didnt bring their guns and murder people, like the creatures of the left do
At least in the last decade, democrats seem to be the only one doing it, and the only response that is accepted it "take it".
Seriously, of all the "far-right" boogeymen, when was the last time we had legitimate political violence? Ive probably seen 50 articles about The Proud Boys, Patriot Prayer, the Boogaloo boys, and every time im told they are holding some terrorist nazi fest no buildings get burned down, no one gets murdered, nothing more than a minor scuffle and someone yelling.
On the flip side, it was regularly excused when BLM and antifa would burn city blocks, destroy bulidings, attack people trying to film it. They took over part of a fucking city and the response from journos was "I guess some more peaceful protesting happening!"
I have heard about 100x more coverage of the violence that DIDNT happen at proud boys gatherings than the actual rapes and murders that occurred in CHAZ/CHOP.
And J6, probably the only thing that can actually be pointed at, what happened? A few old people died of heart attacks, and the police shot one of the rioters. Literally no one but actual rioters died. Contrast that with months of riots that did billions in damage, and resulted in the highest homicide rates we have seen in decades in this country.
Frankly, the lefts comfort with radical revolution and political violence and the fact they have a near monopoly on it at this point, will lead to a backlash that is going to be deserved. People aren't going to sit around and take it forever.
The recent attempted assassination of Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump
I had forgotten all about that. Every time I flip on the news, it’s “why Kamala’s cackle is endearing” or “it may not seem it, but Kamala Harris’ oratory is actually genius” or “Kamala is actually ALL the races – and genders! – all at once! Amazing!” or “Kamala singlehandedly fixed illegal immigration, don’t believe your lying eyes" or "Kamala's Veep pick saved Democracy - and we don't even know who it is yet!"
Every once in awhile they switch to Trump coverage, but it’s just to scream about how he owns slaves and is actually running for Fuhrer instead of president.
Border czar? She was never the border czar! Biden just asked her to write a term paper!
She's young! (she'll be 60 before the election)
And energetic! (but no word on what she's accomplished with that energy in the past, or what she plans to accomplish in the next 4 years.)
You shouldn't vote for her. How about Trump? He's not young and he likes golf. What more could you ask for? What more do you deserve?
"Every once in awhile they switch to Trump coverage, but it’s just to scream about how he owns slaves and is actually running for Fuhrer instead of president."
Funny, given that he is the candidate with no ties to slave owning. Kamala cannot claim that.
Slavery is OK when the left does it. It's why they like/defend/shield human trafficking so much.
Another "both sides" problem.
But has anyone tallied up the actual attacks and destruction in the past 5 years to see which side is the bigger threat?
Of course they have. That's why you don't hear the answer. It's a little inconvenient.
"to see which side is the bigger threat?"
Easy. Which is the side with the nuclear weapons?
The side led by a feeb.
Reminder: 2022 SPLC survey.
Some 44% of “younger Democratic men” favor “assassinating a political figure who is harming the country or our democracy”

Ask them what they feel about Free Speech..........
"American political violence has much in common with that taking place in Germany and India, as well as in France's most recent election,"
It's interesting that only at the very end is there an note to add that political violence is not an American phenomena, but also in the nations that comprise the American empire. I think the wave has been increased by the war in Gaza, with young people in America, Britain, Canada, France etc taking their inspiration from the Palestinian resistance and recognizing a common struggle against a common enemy. Once International Solidarity kicks in and efforts against the empire are effectively co-ordinated, we should start seeing some heavy domestic repression, unseen in the nation's history. Bringing Gaza home, so to speak.
There's still time to flee, if the future scares you, and you crave stability. But don't delay. Learning Chinese, for example, takes some 5 years of study, if you want to gain fluency, readily assimilate and prosper there.
What level of retard is this? 11? 12?
It's Marxist so it's off the charts.
"it’s off the charts."
Famous last words. Just wait until the charts catch up with reality.
He just has a hard-on for groups that murder gay folks and oppress women.
And jews.
You're assuming that all the political violence will come from the margins. The state has a big surprise in store for you.
It's already happening in Britain as angry Brits have taken to the streets to express their disgust and anger towards the government who has allowed unchecked immigration and runaway crime.
Tommy Robinson continues to be persecuted for his views as der Komisar of Britain declares all who oppose him as right wing terrorists.
"It’s already happening in Britain as angry Brits have taken to the streets to express their disgust and anger towards the government who has allowed unchecked immigration and runaway crime."
The Brits are just reaping what they've sown. For years they've been meddling in places like Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen and Libya, making once stable countries uninhabitable. It's a disgrace. Whatever immigrants they've been saddled with, it's totally deserved.
Tommy Robinson is an asshole who whined continuously about Muslims but did nothing to oppose the British meddling that precipitated the massive waves of refugees. Find yourself another martyr, for goodness sake.
"I think the wave has been increased by the war in Gaza, with young people in America, Britain, Canada, France etc taking their inspiration from the Palestinian resistance"
Young people in the west dont actually give a shit about Gaza, it was just something they could apply their K-12+4 marxist indoctrination to. It perfectly pinged their brains due to the "oppressed brown people vs evil whites" narrative they have been spoon fed and are riled up to 11 to get vengeance for. 99% of them didn't know where Gaza was or who 'palestinians' were on Oct 6th.
All of the teaching they had jammed in their skulls about critical theory and its praxis is Gaza. It fit the mold way better than Ukraine, which they were gung ho on, but it didn't line up quite so perfectly for them.
However, all of the channels I follow that have been screaming about "muh genocide!!!" have already moved on. Sure its mentioned now and then, but honestly as an afterthought. It was current thing, and now its past thing.
Honestly though, you are probably right, and shit is likely going to heat up. I suspect after this election. Years of constantly tolerating the left burning, looting, and attacking others is going to result in a backlash against them.
The vast majority of the armed Americans have had a pretty straightforward cost/benefit calculus that results in them never really wanting to pick up their rifles as the consequence of inaction has not been high enough, and the cost of prosecution for defending yourself (as Rittenhouse saw) can be your life, if not literally then legally. If the left wants to bring their "Gaza" energy out in full force, that cost/benefit calculus will change at some point.
Imagine what J6 would have looked like if even 5% of the "insurrectionists" were armed. Now do 50%. Now do 100%. The left has been allowed to continue on the way they do because they havent made it uncomfortable enough for the people that tolerate them. Keep it up, I dare you.
"Young people in the west dont actually give a shit about Gaza"
It seems they care about their cause. That's what their signs say. And people naturally side with the underdog unless they are sadists, regardless of what if any schooling they've had. You are barking up the wrong tree, Mike Parsons.
What aspects of Critical Theory have bearing on Gaza? That's not clear to me.
"Years of constantly tolerating the left burning, looting, and attacking others is going to result in a backlash against them. "
Again, not clear. Who is 'them?' Young people? Palestinians? Ukrainians? J6ers? Israelis?
"Imagine what J6 would have looked like if even 5% of the “insurrectionists” were armed."
There would have been more casualties. But Biden would still be president, I'm sure.
"If the left wants to bring their “Gaza” energy out in full force, that cost/benefit calculus will change at some point."
It's not 'the left' that's orchestrating the resistance in Gaza. It's an outfit called Hamas. It's a right wing Muslim fundamentalist organization. The PFLP are avowed leftists, and they are certainly involved in the resistance, but take a back seat to Hamas. What they both share is their anti-colonialism and opposition to Israeli occupation. This spirit of resistance is a difficult thing to kill. Armed Americans, take warning. That rifle you treasure has its uses, to be sure, but know its limitations. You life, dear Americans, may depend on knowing what your rifle can't do.
"a study from the Violence Prevention Research Program at the University of California,"
Something tells me they're not doing a very good job and their funding should be cut.
This article and the "studies" it refers to - probably in a tortured attempt to appear neutral - almost totally ignores the historical timeline of the political events leading up to the current situation. Puritanism held sway in America for a very long time after Independence Day with "conservative" social values encoded into law at all levels causing great harm to large segments of the population. The rise of socialism around the world then caused great harm around the globe leading to two destructive world wars and reactionary paranoia here in America. Despite that, socialism has continued to make steady gains in opinions and in government programs, spending, regulation and laws until almost the entire socialist program and almost every plank in their platform has been implemented. The "conservatives" took almost no effective countermeasures during most of that century. Finally, the socialists went a bridge to far: not satisfied with the legalization of abortion, they insisted on a "right" to abortion on demand, requiring ALL of us to pay for other peoples' abortions. Only then did the "right" finally start to fight back - however ineffectively or nonsensically it might be. Instead of rolling back socialism, however, the only thing they have to show for it is increasing legal battles and violence over abortion - and ONLY abortion. Not only is the current perception of worsening violence and illiberalism over a pointless issue, that violence totally misses the real problem: the essentially total victory of socialism over limited government.
“Instead of rolling back socialism, however, the only thing they have to show for it is increasing legal battles and violence over abortion – and ONLY abortion.”
They certainly haven’t had much success in the treatment of rape. The Bolsheviks, back in 1922, were the first to criminalize marital rape – rape which involves a married couple. By 1988 the criminalization of marital rape had even spread to conservative havens like Alabama, which that year amended their rape laws to reflect the changes made by the Bolsheviks decades earlier.
As-if there wasn't a MOUNTAIN of history as to the cause of it all.....
Endless growing of [Na]tional So[zi]al[ism].
The USA is on the brink of just repeating the historical record of a failed ideology retards bought into again.
