Most Palestinians Don't Want Hamas Rule, Poll Shows
A new survey shows that neither Hamas, nor its secular nationalist rivals, nor Biden’s plan have majority support among Palestinians.

A lot of people have theories about what Palestinians want, whether it's protesters in New York calling for a Hamas victory, U.S. President Joe Biden trying to set up a demilitarized Palestinian state, or Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claiming that Palestinians can't rule themselves. But very few people have bothered to actually ask Palestinians what they want.
The Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR) released its latest poll data from the West Bank and Gaza on Wednesday. It turns out that Palestinians are unhappy with all of the current options—including the Biden administration's plan for international governance of Gaza.
The last Palestinian election was held in 2006. Although no party won a majority, Hamas had the largest bloc in parliament, with 44 percent of the votes. The Bush administration encouraged Palestinian security officers to launch a coup d'etat against Hamas, which led to a Palestinian civil war. Since then, Hamas has ruled Gaza and Fatah has ruled the West Bank, both as one-party states.
If parliamentary elections were held today, most Palestinians wouldn't vote for either option. Hamas would get 32 percent of the vote, Fatah would get 17 percent of the vote, and a full 50 percent would either sit out of the election or vote for a third party. The survey showed similarly abysmal turnout rates in a presidential election—with one twist.
If the former guerrilla leader Marwan Barghouti were allowed to run, he would handily defeat both the Hamas and Fatah candidates. Barghouti has been imprisoned by Israel since 2002 for his role in several attacks on Israelis, which he denies ordering. Since then, he has said that he accepts the pre-1967 borders of Israel and called for "peaceful popular resistance."
That said, when PCPSR asked Palestinians what the best path to independence was, 54 percent said "armed struggle," as opposed to 16 percent who supported peaceful resistance and 25 percent who supported negotiations. It was a drop from December 2023, when 63 percent chose armed struggle.
Still, only 46 percent of Palestinians in Gaza told PCPSR they preferred Hamas rule. Instead, 11 percent said that they wanted the same Palestinian Authority that rules the West Bank, and 34 percent said they wanted the Palestinian Authority with new leadership.
Even before the current war, Hamas was unpopular in Gaza. Just before the October 7 attacks, an overwhelming majority of Gazans told Arab Barometer that they had little or no trust in the Hamas-run government. In the summer of 2023, protests broke out in Gaza over the cost of living, and Hamas responded with a police crackdown.
However, the unpopularity of Hamas doesn't mean that Palestinians support Israeli rule. Direct Israeli military control polled at 1 percent among Gazans, and "a local authority formed by Israel" did little better, polling at 2 percent. "Control by tribes/large families," one of the models for ruling Gaza that the Netanyahu government has reportedly been toying with, similarly polled at 2 percent among Gazans.
According to a Politico report published on Wednesday, the Biden administration has come around to a different solution: an interim government in Gaza backed by an international military coalition. That option would be no more popular than Israeli rule. Only 2 percent supported rule by foreign forces or the United Nations.
Palestinians might not agree on what they want, but they know what they don't want.

I'm absolutely convinced ranked choice voting could fix the middle east.
Probably because Hamas is infiltrated and funded by Israel.
October 7 was an inside job.
The following video is the best compilation of evidence to date that proves October 7 was an inside job coordinated by Israel as an excuse to commit genocide in Gaza.
https://richardgage911.substack.com/p/new-documentary-on-gaza-october-7
The video proves that Israel, funded, coordinated and enabled the October 7 attacks.
It shows that Israel opened the gate to welcome trucks carrying Hamas through the wall.
It shows how Israel not only ignored repeated warnings from their many surveillance sources but withdrew all defences from the wall and emptied their military bases just hours before the attack and had ZERO response for more than 6 hours.
It shows and proves that the IDF attacked the concert goers and the kibbutz’s with Apache helicopters and tanks.
It shows that they sacrificed dozens of their IDF forces to blame Hamas.
It shows that only handfuls of Hamas soldiers wandered for hours through the evacuated areas looking for soldiers to fight but finding none.
It shows that the hostages that were taken by Hamas said they were treated well.
It shows that Israel has funded Hamas with billions in cash in suitcases in the backs of cars
Refuted.
Refuted.
Refuted.
And laughable.
Another plausible perspective on the Israeli agenda behind the October 7 inside job.
In this one flattening, grabbing and ethnically cleansing Gaza is secondary to maintaining control of Israel by Zionists, bibis right wing terrorist government.
Here non Zionist Jews are portrayed as being coerced to fear all Palestinians and therefore need a fascist government to get rid of them.
Why the fuck do we let our government support these terrible people? The answer, they try to control us with the same fear of bogeymen.

Somehow I think I'd end up on multiple "watch lists" if I were to even look up the registry and ownership of that url.
You do you cowardly bigot.
Not all of us have the "advantage" of already being on those watchlists by virtue of having grown up in a racist death cult masquerading as a "christian church" in North Idaho.
There are aspects of how I make my living which would be impacted negatively if I were to visit a site that's at least monitored by the FBI (if not run as a "false flag" to ID groups suceptable to infiltration and manipulation like the supposed conspiracy to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer).
Maybe you're even one of the informants in your current cell, and all the anti-constitutional nonsense about imprisoning "liars" within the government is you over-acting your cover "legend"?

RCV is just IRV in sheep's clothing, which makes it perhaps the only voting system *worse* than the FPP we suffer now -- Even a voter-lottery would be better.
If you want a good election method, promote Approval Voting (AV). It's almost as good as (and much simpler than) the gold standard of election methods, Condorcet, aka Instant Round-Robin voting (IRRV).
Hey, Matt old bud, why not tell us a little about The Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR)? Why should anyone take anything said by any Palestinian organization at face value? Are they any more independent and reliable than the lying UN organizations which take the lies of the lying Palestinian Hamas-run organizations at face value?
Ima gonna start with the assumption of No, OK? You might want to dig into this a little before passing on what they say so breathlessly.
Of course, because every Palestinian everywhere is a liar and a terrorist.
Read again, illit dimwit. I did not say what you just implied.
More or less, but that's beside the point.
Not every, but a solid majority.
Palestinians? They must be from Palestine, I've heard of this mystical, magical place but can't find the nation of Palestine on any maps, even historical maps, I can't even find any mention of the nation of Palestine in any history books. I've heard that it's right between Wakanda and Narnia, but for some reason I can't find them on a map either.

Zionist bought property while it was an Ottoman backwater, and they were happy to sell it off. Then the holocaust and the UN mandate and voila, the State of Israel was born. Add 3 wars and the borders expanded and whatever the Palestinians had mostly evaporated.
But as you say, Palestine was never a country in its own right.
It's funny that the US-Mexico border is just an abstract social construct but Palestine and other similar(ly nonsensical) ethno-geographical constructs are unquestioned firmament.
I've brought up similarly, the University of Illinois mascot used to be Chief Illiniwek. But he was removed because of cultural appropriation. However, there never was a Chief. Even the Illini were never "a people". The word is French and represents a loose federation of several tribes in the Midwest.
It would be like, 500 yrs. down the line, a bunch of Americans complaining about a German character named "Kapitan Nordamerikanische Freihandels" (aka Captain North American Free Trade) who went around drinking Coke, eating tacos, and putting maple syrup on everything was cultural appropriation. *Maybe* it's an insulting caricature, but it's really only insulting if you're ashamed of drinking Coke, eating tacos, *and* pouring maple syrup on things... as a Mexican-American-Canadian.
Almost like ethnicity, geography, biology, etc., etc., etc. don't matter and they're just striving to be their own caricature of Palestine rather than actual humans in a fashion akin to transgender individuals dressing in womanface.
"Almost like ethnicity, geography, biology, etc., etc., etc. don’t matter"
Individuals matter. That's the prime directive of liberalism. Individuals can surmount their circumstances and not be bound to concepts like ethnicity etc. For a Libertarian, you operate from a shockingly illiberal set of ideas.
If "Palestine" were an ethno-state, its rightful inhabitants would be European. The name Palestine was created by the Roman occupation in the year 165 AD/CE, and linguistically is clearly derived from the Philistine tribes, who were ethnic Greeks; the name "Palestine" was created to replace the name "Judea" for the region as punishment/retribution for an uprising against Roman Rule by the local Jewish population, who had been there before the Romans came in and destroyed their Second Temple (the first having been destroyed by the Babylonians, and sacked by the Philistines a few centuries before that) in Jerusalem. Arabs didn't move into the area in large numbers (unless you count the Babylonian occupation a few centuries before the Romans moved in) was 400+ years later, even the people now claiming to be "indigenous Palestinians" would have to acknowledge that their ancestors mostly came to the area in the 7th Century.
Just the fact that the Al Aqsa Mosque (the "holiest site in Islam, if you don't count the places in Saudi Arabia where all good Muslims are supposed to make a pilgrimage to visit in their lifetime) was built on top of the ruins of that Second Jewish Temple is a major indication of who's indigenous and who's a "colonizer" in the area.
If Arabs were fighting for their "indigenous homeland", shouldn't they be calling it by an Arabic (or Aramaic, since that language was spoken in the area for millennia before Arabic became a language)? Could it be that the reason they're not using that name is that it's probably something like "Yisrael"?
Palestinians might not agree on what they want, but they know what they don't want
Jews breathing?
54 percent said "armed struggle," ...drop from December 2023, when 63 percent chose armed struggle.
So just a little more lite genociding to get that number down to a point, Israeli's can live in peace.
KILL
ALLHALF THE JEWS!"So just a little more lite genociding to get that number down to a point, Israeli’s can live in peace."
There's not a ton of historical evidence to support the idea that it actually works that way.
Seventy-two percent of respondents said they believed the Hamas decision to launch the cross-border rampage in southern Israel was "correct" given its outcome so far, while 22% said it was "incorrect". The remainder were undecided or gave no answer.
Poll shows Palestinians back Oct. 7 attack on Israel, support for Hamas rises
https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/poll-shows-palestinians-back-oct-7-attack-israel-support-hamas-rises-2023-12-14/
The problem is that "doesn't like Hamas" fails to state the reason why they don't like Hamas. They might dislike Hamas because Hamas is losing to the Jews and fails to kill enough of them.
Even if the whole survey is accurate, "dislikes Hamas" doesn't mean "wants peace".
That's literally the case. The so called "Palestinian Islamic Jihad", the second most popular terrorist org amongst the Arafatians is actually even more bloodthirsty than Hamas, believe it or not. And that's the main reason why the Arafatians are increasingly more sympathetic to PIJ.
a survey ... of Palestinians?
There is no such thing as a "Palestinian". At worst, there are Arab Palestinians. The word itself means: Israel. It's a direct translation, courtesy of Ancient Greeks. In as much "Palestine" was a loosely-defined historical-geographical name, it had always referred to the Jews. Jew-haters in Europe, even up until the 1930'-s told Jews to "Go Back To Palestine". It was well understood what it means, whom it belonged to, whose birthright it was. Under British rule, the word "Palestinian" meant just "Jews" living in Mandatory Palestine i.e. Eretz Yisrael. This wasn't a secret, it was literally printed on every coin, every banknote, etc...
Back to the topic: whatever that poll shows does not really matter. Not that it shows anything positive about their "society" (what would be an apt name to describe their lairs?). From previous polls, we know that their population is the most antisemitic in the world, to the point where some 98% percent of all their adults are Jew-hating (plus margin of error). And this isn't the type of soft Jew-hatred that one may experience - or at least could have experienced up until 10/7 - in the West. This is the type of Jew-hatred that you can't leave them alone with a Jew in vicinity, lest they use the nearest sharp object to decapitate said Jew.
We also know that they support, love and revel in terror. The vast majority of those Arafatians support Hamas, PIJ, and the "armed struggle" i.e. indiscriminate slaughter of Jews (and any Israelis, including "treacherous" Arabs, Bedouin and Druze citizens of Israel who're just minding their own business in relative prosperity and liberty). The Arafatians are simply the worst imaginable populace in the (history of our) world, to the point where even their own brethren does not want them.
"This is the type of Jew-hatred that you can’t leave them alone with a Jew in vicinity, lest they use the nearest sharp object to decapitate said Jew."
Israelis have shown for decades they are more than happy to live side by side with this sort of hatred. They can afford to as long as they have the unquestioning backing of America, whether it's the politicians, corporate leaders or celebrities. Once this backing evaporates, Israelis will have to reconcile and learn to live in peace with their neighbors.
I was heartened in the past couple of days that Hamas has now demanded Russia, China and Turkey to act as guarantors for any negotiated settlement between Israel and Palestine. Smart move as Biden and Blinken have shown themselves to be utterly unsuitable as mediators. This and the moves of Saudi Arabia to abandon the petro dollar are clear signs for the end of American hegemony in the Middle East.
You're just a lying Jew-hater.
In fairness, he’s also a moron.
Indeed.
"Once this backing evaporates, Israelis will have to reconcile and learn to live in peace with their neighbors."
What approach would you suggest they need to learn in order to "live in peace" with neighbors who have sworn to kill them all, or die trying, and whose endgame is to see all of the Jews "driven into the Sea"?
Let's say that I lived next door to you, and declared at some point that I'm the rightful owner of your home and intend to lob molitov cocktails into your bedroom at night, wire bombs into your cars, and beat up your children on their way to/from school several times a month until such a time as you move out and cede ownership of the house and lot to me with the only "compensation" being my promise to probably not continue those attacks in the short term provided you move to some other City. What would you do in order to "live in peace" with such a neighbor?
Well, yeah, strictly speaking, 90% of Egypt is are actually Arabs, while only the Copts are true Egyptians (the Coptic language is even a form of ancient Egyptian), but that ship has sailed.
Yes. Plus, none of the other Levantine "people" exists. There are no "Lebanese", no "Syrian", no "Jordanian" either. The lot of them, the vast majority of them, are just Levantine Arabs. There's no meaningful difference between a Lebanese Sunni Muslim, a Syrian Sunni Muslim or a Jordanian Sunni Muslim. They're all just minions of the Ummah with a slightly different dialect of Arabic.
Do you think any of this gives any comfort to the Israeli soldier, lying in a hospital bed with his balls blown off? Knowing the person who did this to him belongs to a people 'who don't exist?'
All you offer is irrelevant propaganda talking points from a motley collection of cue cards. These quickly fail you and it's back to bluster and school yard taunts. ie "You’re just a lying Jew-hater."
Oddly specific sexual kink you have there.
'Men' without balls always gets a laugh here.
Mtrueman without balls always gets laughed at every day here.
Implying you need balls to be a man would get you kicked off most of social media.
Miss Construeman loves them sweaty balls.
At least the filthy Jihadist ones.
Arab people very much do exist
A lot of the international controversy around the "Palestinian Genocide" might well boil down more to Arab Nationalism, and possibly the intention by regimes such as Iran to "restore" a regional Caliphate than any other root cause. It would definitely explain why there's been so much attention focused by the Arab world on Israel for decades while Muslims around the world (Kashmir, Bosnia, Somalia, South Sudan/Darfur) were killed in far greater numbers with barely a peep coming from the Arab world (and in the case of Darfur, the ethnic cleansing involved was African Muslims being slaughtered by Arab Muslims), as well as the tiny amount of aid sent from the Middle East to Indonesia (home to the worlds largest Muslim population) after the devastation of the Tsunamis that hit in 2004 (if I remember the year correctly), although Al Jezeera did take the time to re-broadcast claims from an Egyptian newspaper that the US Navy had detonated nukes on the ocean floor and devastating much of the South Pacific and Southeast Asia just to kill Muslims in Indonesia.
Prior to the Arabs taking over the region, the Jews and non-Jews in the Holy Land/Palestine/whatever were of the same ethnicity. Not all Hebrews were Jews. Over the centuries, the majority of the non-Jewish Hebrews converted from traditional Semitic paganism to Christianity to Islam. A few Christian Hebrews are still around and still speak the Aramaic language, just are there is a remnant of Copts in Egypt.
Anthropologists know the Philistines (later called Palestinians) originally came from Crete.
One has to wonder why they left the island.
Were they kicked out, or did they voluntarily leave that rock?
It was probably the Bronze Age collapse.
Yes. It is more accurate to say that the Cretans were assimilated by the Palestinian Hebrews, rather than that the Palestinians came from Crete.
The word itself means: Israel. It’s a direct translation, courtesy of Ancient Greeks. In as much “Palestine” was a loosely-defined historical-geographical name, it had always referred to the Jews.
Worse, it's a colonialist name, which most of the people screeching claim to hate. The only reason the place is called "Palestine" instead of "Judea" is because the Romans came in, broke heads, forcibly departed a big chunk of the population, and then renamed the place.
Yes, I understand that the Greeks called it something close to "Palestine" based on the Egyptian "Peleset", and that's where the name of the Biblical "Philistines" came from. But that was the name for the people who lived in Gaza (who are, for the most part, not the people who live there now, though it is amusing how that chunk of real estate is still occupied by people who are reviled) and not the entire region in general. Over the course of the intervening millennia, it hasn't generally ever been an independent polity, always being some subdivision of some larger empire.
Claiming that it's uniquely terrible that (((T3h J00000000z))) took it over is fucking absurd. It's been getting traded around like a 13 year old gang chick getting "jumped in" for the last several thousand years, mostly at sword point. The notion that this last trade of hands is the one completely illegitimate time is utterly ridiculous.
“If the former guerrilla leader Marwan Barghouti were allowed to run”
Barghouti is a dangerous character. He is seen as the leader most able to unify the Palestinian people. Hamas has recently mentioned him by name in a potential prisoner exchange.
Israel has refused to release him on previous occasions. In 2011 Netanyahu agreed to exchange over 1000 Palestinian prisoners for 1 Israeli soldier. Barghouti wasn’t one of them. One who was released instead was Yehya Sinwar, current leader of Hamas in Gaza. Apparently Netanyahu was more comfortable with the thought of a free Sinwar than a free Barghouti. Haaretz interviewed the Shin Bet agent who interrogated Sinwar:
“To you, I’ll say that he [Sinwar] hates Israel at an extreme level, which was translated in our presence into toxic comments, spoken with a burning hatred. He has no fear. He did not hide his thoughts about his intention to murder Shin Bet personnel. He told me: ‘I will murder you, all your colleagues in the Mukhabarat [Arabic for secret police],’ as he termed Shin Bet. You need to understand what level of psychological warfare he employed already, then, as a detainee. He faces you and curses and threatens and is not afraid,” the interrogator continued.
The interrogator also told the newspaper he had never seen: “Someone who behaves and speaks so boldly isn’t ashamed and doesn’t fear the interrogator, and tells you: ‘You are the criminal, and even if the world turns upside-down, I will deal with heretic Jews like you.’”
"Barghouti is a dangerous character. He is seen as the leader most able to unify the Palestinian people. Hamas has recently mentioned him by name in a potential prisoner exchange. "
Not to completely discount the danger he presents, but the same was true of Nelson Mandela when he was younger and leading violent actions by the ANC. People can and do change, especially when they encounter severe consequences along a particular path; I don't know that Barghouti has, or even might have changed in a similar way, but anything that's happened at least once is always possible to repeat.
Of course Hamas's poll numbers are in the dumpster. They are getting their asses kicked by a bunch of Jews and the Palestinians can't support that.
If so many of them want Hamas gone why isn't there a queue forming in front of every Israeli military post to rat out where the militants are hiding? The people of gaza are apparently starving. You're telling me they want Hamas gone so badly they won't even trade Hamas for a loaf of bread?
I suspect that given the choice between eliminating Hamas militants or eliminating the Palestinian civilian population, Israel's leadership would opt for the latter. Netanyahu has funded and encouraged Hamas for decades, even leaving the governance of Gaza in Hamas's hands after their withdrawal in 2005.
Israel could have eliminated the Palestinians any time in the last 50 years if they really wanted to.
Netanyahu's problem is that he hated Fatah more than Hamas, and wanted to use Hamas to destroy Fatah, not realizing Hamas is worse.
""Israel could have eliminated the Palestinians any time in the last 50 years if they really wanted to.""
Exactly.
Worst. Genocide. Evar.
I guess you've never read the history of the Turks killing Armenians, and you missed the news about Hutus versus Tutsis in Rwanda, and then there was the Holocaust in Europe, and -- come to think of it, you probably never learned any history at all.
"Israel could have eliminated the Palestinians any time in the last 50 years if they really wanted to."
They chose a strategy of divide and conquer instead, in the time honored fashion of imperialists the world over. Let the Palestinians squabble and fight amongst themselves, and Israel will limit itself every couple years to 'mowing the lawn,' indiscriminately murdering 1000s of Palestinians without setting foot in Gaza. This was the 'peace' that Israel was happy to live with until Hamas attacked and Netanyahu's strategy lay in discredited ruins.
Yep. I see lefturd after lefturd regurgitating the "genoicide" party line, ignoring the fact that if the Jews wanted a genocide, this whole fracas would have been over on October 8 of last year.
-jcr
" ignoring the fact that if the Jews wanted a genocide,"
Jews don't want a genocide. It's the Israelis who want a genocide. They will tell you if you give them the chance. Jews I'm acquainted with are appalled by Israel's crimes, as I'm sure you are.
"...Jews I’m acquainted with are appalled by Israel’s crimes, as I’m sure you are."
No crimes; defense is not criminal.
You were complaining about Israeli oppression of Palestinians. Now you are complaining that they let them have their own government.
A government without a country isn't worth what you think it is.
I suspect that given the choice between eliminating Hamas militants or eliminating the Palestinian civilian population, Israel’s leadership would opt for the latter.
Sure, mNaziman, sure. Keep Raged and Nazi On.
Most Palestinians live in the West Bank.
There are more Arafatian living in Yehuda and Shomron (Judea and Samaria- if you will, but certainly not "west bank") than in the Gaza Strip. That said, Arafatians squatting in Yehuda and Shomron had consistently supported Hamas by +10-14% on average, compared to their ilk living in the Gaza Strip.
"You’re telling me they want Hamas gone so badly they won’t even trade Hamas for a loaf of bread?"
Maybe they would, but they have as much reason to think that 86-ing Hamas would get them food as the Israelis have to believe that Hamas would actually abide by a "permanent" cease-fire once they'd managed to re-build any level of offensive capability. It's hard to imagine diplomacy ever working in an environment where at least one, and likely both sides (as long as Netanyahu is in charge at least) aren't negotiating entirely in good faith if at all.
They want to kill Jews, but want an organization that is less kleptocratic and gives more aid rather than keep most of it.
Spin harder you moron. 3ven your own data shows the Palestinian people are still behind genocide. Of voters, 60% are pro-Hamas ( 32 vs 17% with the test sitting out) and if the terrorist in Israeli jail runs then it's worse...yeah, they're not pro-genocide at all.
""Most Palestinians Don't Want Hamas Rule, Poll Shows""
Do the protesters in NYC know that?
Going medieval on their Hezbollah asses.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9MgjZ2sLQM
Is this the poll showing 67% of Palestinians supporting oct 7th?
Polls ? Am I supposed to believe that people forced from their homes, starving , being bombed to death, fleeing with sack of belongings, dodging terrorists... has stopped to take time out of their day from dodging bullets to take a freaking poll ?
I suspect that most Palestinians are like most people and would like little more than the pursuit of happiness. They are instead in the middle of a quagmire of violence. They likely wish the world to change with little idea of how to actually make that happen. What they need is a leader that put the people first and those are hard to find. They need a Mandela, MLK, or a Gandi.
One way it can happen is if they stopped murdering their neighbors.
I've been suggesting they try that for at least 25 if not 30 years.
They don't seem interested.
Like, seriously. Can you even imagine what would happen if the Navajo Nation started chucking Katyushas at Phoenix, Albuquerque, and Denver?
But instead, they run casinos, and fleece white people out of billions of dollars over the years. If the Gazans would settle the fuck down and open a Mediterranean resort, they could likewise be rich.
Instead, you get... October 7th.
What am I supposed to do
if I want to talk about peace and understanding
but you only understand the language of the sword?
What if I want to make you understand that the path you chose leads to downfall
but you only understand the language of the sword?
What if I want to tell you to leave me and my beloved ones in peace
but you only understand the language of the sword?
I let the blade do the talking
so my tongue shall become iron and my words the mighty roar of war.
Beloved brother enemy, I sing my sword song for you
the lullaby of obliteration,
so I can wake up with a smile
and bliss in my heart and bliss in my heart and bliss in my heart
It worth remembering that Jarid Kushner started out with an idea to boost the Palestinian economy as a means of achieving peace. That plan failed because neither the Israelis nor the Palestinians were ready to support the diplomatic process necessary to make it work.
The plan was to ensure US hegemony in the region by bringing the two major powers - Israel and Saudi Arabia - together. It's still the plan even though it no longer looks likely. The Palestinians were never part of the plan, not even as an afterthought. So in response we had the Al Aqsa Flood, which put Palestine front and center of the world's stage.

Often, you outdo yourself.
They call Barghouti the 'Mandela of Palestine.' Both have spent 27 years in prison and both called for a peaceful negotiated settlement. Both are members of an organization dedicated to fighting apartheid, and naturally, have been labelled as terrorists by US presidents and pundits.
I don't know Marwan Barghouti and maybe he could step in to be the leader the Palestinians needs. It would be nice to find someone.
Yeah, if only the great man or woman would just fall out out of the sky a la deus ex machina, and everyone would be inspired and follow them.
Mandela: have you taken a look at his legacy lately?
Ghandi: " " " " " " " " " ?
MLK: said something about content of character being more important than color of skin....a great idea at the time and for years after, but seems that is no longer the case, and now damned near everything is decried as being "racist."
Hopium.
They also need to quit fucking their cousins.

Something that has been common for much of human history. Throughout history family tribes have been the norm and marrying within the family a method of holding power. It is a cultural thing that need to go, but not easy to dislodge.
1. So Gaza is such an 'open air prison' where 'genocide' has been perpetuated for a generation, subject to 'indiscriminate bombing' and where people are 'literally starving to death's that you can run a pill there?
2. Maybe they shouldn't have helped Hamas on Oct 7th?
3. Maybe they should have taken up arms against Hamas?
4. Maybe they shouldn't have shielded soldiers and kept Hamas' hostages for it?
5. Who cares, it's war now.
If parliamentary elections were held today
Which they won't be, so, irrelevant. NEXT!
I like how he casually blames Hamas being in charge for the last 18 years on Bush.
Let's just let that one like there, unadressed. "Bush officials encouraged" Palestinian security officers in 2006, so now in 2024 Hamas is still in charge. Seriously. Nothing else happened in the last 3 presidential administrations or the whole of Hamas rule, Bush "encouraged" some non-Hamas faction and that's why there hasn't been an election in two decades.
Wrong survey, wrong questions. Should have asked if they believe in human rights, liberty, rule of law and constitutional government.
The answer will be that they have not developed the culture for modern self - rule and they are a danger to themselves and others.
The providence of this survey is:
“The sample size of this poll was 1570 adults, of whom 760 were interviewed face-to-face in the West Bank (in 76 residential locations) and 750 in the Gaza Strip (in 75 locations). Due to the uncertainty about the exact population size and distribution at that moment in the Gaza Strip, we almost doubled the sample size in that area in order to reduce the margin of error. The total sample was reweighted to reflect the actual relative size of the population in the two Palestinian areas. Thus, the sample used is representative of the entire populations of the two regions. The margin of error stands at +/-3%.”
So 1570 people, only 750 were Gazans, are taken as definitively speaking for millions "Palestinians". You may want to check your premises.
What a misleading headline with a half truth. See, I read the poll elsewhere and it says something quite different from that headline which is something I’m coming to expect from Reason.
1) If the entire population of Pali’s in both Gaza and The West Bank are included, 71% support the 7 Oct terror attack.
2) 65% do not support a 2 state solution being pushed by Brandon
3) 97% think Israel is guilty of war crimes while only 9% think Hamas is guilty
4) 61% want Hamas in charge of Gaza after the war.
5) Only 5% would vote for current PA President Mahmoud Abbas (Fatah Party member).
46% would vote for Ismail Haniyeh, political leader of Hamas.
If Fatah Party member Marwan Barghouti is included then Barghouti would win with 47% of the vote. Haniyeh comes in second with 23%, and Abbas is third with 2%. It should be pointed out that Barghouti is guilty of planning and participating in numerous terrorist attacks on Israel.
So you see, the headline and the story is quite interesting in the cherry picking of stats to say what the author wants the story to be not what it actually is.
I don't believe that a One State or Two State plan will work. More likely that a Three State plan will work. Even then it would be very difficult.
West Bank, Israel, and Gaza as three separate countries.
I understand why the 3 parties have conflict, and truthfully all 3 are to blame to some degree. However at some point we need to look at today instead of arguing about history and who has a better claim.
Most people simply want stability in their lives and this applies to the majority of people from the West Bank, Israel, and Gaza. There are however people in West Bank, Israel, and Gaza who are more vindictive and want revenge for perceived and actual wrongs.
I don't believe that original plans that were not accepted 75 years ago are viable anymore. Failure to accept the terms within a reasonable amount of time forfeits the offer.
The West Bank and Gaza have squandered the opportunity and if comparing the treatment of a conquered people in history they would have been squashed and forced to capitulate or face extermination within years of their defeat. The simple fact that this issue has lingered for decades upon decades illustrates how easy it has been in comparison to similar historical events.
This does not let Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, and other countries in the middle east peninsula off the hook. We don't live in the past, but in the present.
I disagree with the USA selling weapons or funding any war and what is occurring in Gaza is a war. I understand why Israel would go to war with Hamas, but I don't want the USA involved.
Personally, I would like to see the citizens of Gaza to remove Hamas. I view Hamas as a terrorist organization who victimizes the citizens of Gaza and is not a friendly neighbor to anyone.
It would be difficult for any country to allow daily attacks from a neighboring country regardless of the power disparity. I'm not sure why Israel is expected to tolerate it.
In my perfect world the citizens of Gaza would remove Hamas and elect leaders who chose to pursue peaceful co-existence with Israel and Egypt. Are willing to accept assistance from Israel and Egypt to rebuild their infrastructure. I would not entangle the West Bank in Gaza affairs as it would make negotiations more convoluted and less likely not to mention the issues with travel between Gaza and the West Bank.
Understand that I generally prefer smaller countries and advocate breaking larger countries into smaller ones so they represent their citizens better than a non-responsive federal government like the one we have. One size fits all solutions generally fits no one and are typically not a solution at all.

You should take the trouble to familiarize yourself with the conflict. You are leaving out East Jerusalem, which is not part of Gaza or the West Bank, or even Israel. East Jerusalem is home to the Al Aqsa mosque, one of Islam's holiest sites. The Oct 7th attack is called 'Al Aqsa Flood,' named after the mosque. The conflict in Gaza is also a fight over the control over the mosque, as outlined in Hamas statements.
Ham fisted attempts of ignorant outsiders drawing lines on maps to solve other people's problems is part of the reason for the conflict in the first place. We never learn.
"...We never learn."
Speak for yourself only.
These surveys are absurd. Do the Palestinians support Hamas? Do they support the PLO? Hezbollah? Those are propaganda questions intended to prove something to be true, which is not true.
The correct question, which is NEVER asked is: Do you support the destruction of Israel and the death of all Jews?
Everyone knows what the answer is, which is why the question is never asked.
This article is disingenuous. In a multi-party system, the Palestinians would absolutely be ruled by Hamas, which is getting double the support of their next closest opponent. And who knows which of the other alternatives are even more extremist than Hamas, or at least as much so?
Polls have consistently shown that Palestinians hate Jews and support parties like Hamas that want to eliminate Israel. This article's headline implies something new in this poll, but it does not deliver.
"Polls have consistently shown that Palestinians hate Jews and support parties like Hamas that want to eliminate Israel. "
The weird thing is that the Israeli government has also supported Hamas, encouraging and funding them even. And even weirder, Israelis support the government that supports Hamas, and have done for decades.
Note the signs are in very clear English; they know which audience they'd prefer converting and to antisemites like trueman and Misek, it didn't take any conversion.
