Robert Hur Confirmed What Everybody Knows: Biden Is Old

Three-quarters of voters and more than half of Democrats are concerned about the president's age.

President Joe Biden endured one of his worst news cycles in recent memory last week, as special counsel Robert Hur announced he was declining to prosecute the president for mishandling classified documents. This was good news for Biden, in and of itself, but Hur's report on the matter portrayed Biden—perhaps unintentionally—as elderly, forgetful, and enfeebled. From a prosecutor's perspective, these qualities would make him a sympathetic defendant; from a voter's perspective, however, they obviously make him a less-than-ideal candidate for reelection.

The Hur report described the president as an "elderly man with a poor memory." During interviews with Hur, Biden was unable to state when his vice presidency began and ended; he also "did not remember, even within several years, when his son Beau died."

Biden was furious, and lashed out at Hur during a press conference on Friday to rebut charges that there was anything wrong with his memory. "How in the hell dare he raise that," said the president, who claimed he thought it was none of Hur's business.

There's just one problem with that: Hur did not ask Biden about the date of Beau's death, according to new reporting from NBC News. Per sources "familiar with Biden's view of the interview," it was the president—not Hur—who brought up the matter and used the incorrect date.

The public might be more inclined to give Biden a pass on this—remembering exact dates can be hard, even for nonoctogenarians—if the president hadn't made a strange habit of misstating the circumstances of Beau's death. In fact, Biden has repeatedly claimed that Beau died in Iraq. In reality, Beau succumbed to brain cancer and passed away at Walter Reed hospital in Maryland. Biden has occasionally blamed the cancer on Beau's proximity to hazardous burn pits while serving in Iraq, but that's obviously different from saying Beau died in Iraq. Biden's confusion on these points is sadly consistent.

It's not just Beau, of course. The president has made a number of erroneous statements recently, and it's hard not to wonder about his mental aptitude. He has confused current French President Emmanuel Macron and former German Chancellor Angela Merkel with deceased former heads of state François Mitterand and Helmut Kohl, respectively. It's one thing to say the wrong name and immediately correct yourself—Biden told entire anecdotes about the wrong individuals. Worse, he appeared to completely lose his train of thought while answering about a potential ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel. His attempts to find the right words became so painful that reporters at the press briefing felt compelled to chime in and assist.

The White House is steadfastly refusing to put such questions to rest by having Biden undergo a cognitive test; Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre nixed the idea on Monday.

Indeed, the position of the White House, top Democrats, and their supporters on cable news is that Biden is in tip-top shape both physically and mentally—and there is no need to explore the matter any further. Biden allies raged against Hur, calling him "the wrong choice" for the job and faulting him for "unseemly" conduct and engaging in an "abuse of power," and violating "norms and policies" of special counsels.

These criticisms came from Democratic-leaning pundits and commentators; news reporters, on the other hand, have been perfectly willing to ask tough questions about Biden's age. That's probably because they realize it's a legitimate campaign issue. Outside the bubble of the liberal commentariat, Biden's advanced age is very worrisome for voters. According to recent polling, three-quarters of overall voters, including 54 percent of Democrats, are concerned that he is too old to be president.

It's not just that Biden is already the oldest person to ever serve as president—it's that he is clearly showing his age. He loses his train of thought, he mixes up places and names, and these problems certainly appear like they are getting worse.

When Biden sought the Democratic nomination for president in 2020, he had to defeat a slew of other candidates. One can make the reasonable case that his victory demonstrated that he had effectively addressed Democratic primary voters' qualms. But this time around, the Democratic Party has made no meaningful effort to host a competitive primary. Biden has not participated in primary debates with Rep. Dean Phillips (D–Minn.) or self-help guru Marianne Williamson (who has dropped out of the race).

Given widespread concerns about Biden among his own party's voter base, it might have made sense to see whether an alternative candidate would fare better. The Democratic Party, however, remains steadfastly opposed to such an experiment—even as swing-state polling generally shows Biden losing the 2024 election to former President Donald Trump (albeit narrowly).

Team Biden may say that Hur's statements about the president's age and memory were uncalled for, but the bottom line is this: Just about everybody was thinking it.

Robert Hur Confirmed What Everybody Knows: Biden Is Old

No he didn't. He didn't confirm that at all. My father was older than Biden when he died. His mind was as sharp as a tack 'til the very end. Age is not Biden's issue... his mental capacity is.

We did not need a report from the government to remind us that Biden is 81, that fact comes from his birth certificate. What we got from the report was that other thing we already knew.

“”Well, they are not the likely power behind the throne, are they?””

That’s how the aliens look. See, that’s the national emergency from outer space we don’t have to worry about. The aliens have taken over. The reason we don’t have to worry about it and it’s not an immediate issue is they have already been in control for years. John Kennedy tried to stop them but look what happened to him. D.B. Cooper tried to pay them off. Didn’t work either.

So, what you're saying is "does it matter if the person(s) 'running the country' are elected? And, hey, if the policies enacted are unpopular, and cause problems, it can be blamed on the person without much mental capacity.

    5. JoeB   1 year ago

You are correct to object. The headline is meant to distract from Biden's mental capacity, either to suggest some type of implied 'ageism' or to use later to criticize the Trump candidacy/upcoming presidency. So obvious.

  3. TrickyVic (old school)   1 year ago

    It's friggin obvious.

The VP coming out and saying it's wrong on the facts just makes her look like a lying idiot trying to convince a gullible bunch of people that their eyes are lying to them.

    1. A Thinking Mind   1 year ago

Biden came out and lied about the report, too. It's just lies and nonsense all around right now. Even when Biden is coherent he's not speaking truth.

The point of Biden in 2020 was to serve as Obama's third term. The point in 2024 is to serve as Obama's fourth term. The fact that Joe Biden has never been remotely qualified to be President EVER, is meaningless. That's not really his job.

Meanwhile if the Democratic party wanted to convince me that their strength is their willingness to engage in "effective governance," maybe they should have come up with a better backup than Kamala Harris. Now they're stuck without options. That's pretty much definitional incompetence.

    1. Vernon Depner   1 year ago

It's all nonsense to suggest that Democrats are interested in good governance. Biden will be the candidate, even if they have to wheel him out Weekend At Bernie's style. He is the poster of Big Brother. He will get elected via the Dem apparatchiks in nearly all the consequential voting precincts. Your vote didn't count for much to begin with, now it will count for nothing. It's in the bag for Biden, so buy your 5.56 while you can.

All the DNC shenanigans lend credence to the conspiracy theories that the DNC wants Biden to hang in there as long as possible so he can be replaced at the last minute by anyone else, and everyone will breathe a sigh of relief that there is some fresh candidate instead of Trump.

Caught a couple of clips of Biden in 2019 the other day. He's always been a lying asshole but he didn't appear to have dementia. His decline in the last 4 years is striking.

      1. markm23   1 year ago

What I remember is his shotgun video clip. The one where he claimed an AR-15 had too heavy a recoil for a woman, so she should use a shotgun for home defense - and fire blindly through the door! And he looked just as serious as the comedian Pat Paulsen ever did. Paulsen showed a remarkable talent for keeping a straight face and a sober demeanor while spinning such nonsense, but I had to wonder if Biden knew he was spinning nonsense, or was so stupid and ignorant he believed his guff.

Even the leftists at Snopes admit that shooting blindly like Biden recommended is terrible legal advice, and likely to get you decades in prison if you happen to kill someone. But the rest was just as bad. For those who haven't experienced it, I can hardly feel the AR-15 recoil with the standard 5.56mm ammunition, and I'm an undersized weakling. I do know one old man who says it hurts, but he has gout and _everything_ hurts. Anyone in good health could fire the AR-15 all day without hurting their shoulder. (You do need good hearing protection - the bullet makes a Mach 3 sonic boom, and the gases leaving the barrel are also loud.) On the other hand, a 12 gauge shotgun has a heavy recoil. Most women are strong enough to fire one a few times, but after enough target practice to be proficient with a shotgun, I would be hurting, and so would most women.

Hur did not confirm Biden was “old”. His report confirmed that Biden is too mentally incompetent to be held responsible for his actions. That is a related but much more damning metric than merely being old.

  10. TrickyVic (old school)   1 year ago

What's kinda funny is "I don't remember" or "I don't recall" is a common answer by democrat politicians when being questioned.

Hillary Clinton sounded like someone with a bad memory when she was testifying about her handling of classified materials. 39 times she said she does not recall.

    https://www.cnn.com/videos/tv/2016/09/02/fbi-hillary-clinton-report-email-investigation-classified-perez-lead.cnn

With Biden it's not what the investigator said that convinced people he has a bad memory, we have seen the gaffes time after time.

TrickyVic....this is what personally did it for me. Not knowing the year his some Beau died. Sorry, not possible for a fully functioning adult parent. You do not EVER forget the death of your kid.

Once I read that....that was it. I said to myself, "He is gone".

Biden is surrounded by Obamatons. It isn't hard to figure out the rest.

      1. HorseConch   1 year ago

He brings up Beau's death regularly on his own. That seems like the thing you wouldn't forget the year of if you have it in your ready recall.

    2. markm23   1 year ago

Biden does worse than overusing "I don't remember." When he does "remember", he often gets it wrong, even when he answers a question that wasn't asked, like when, where, and how Beau Biden died. That's the second-biggest tragedy in Joe's life. If he doesn't remember it clearly, his mind is gone. Or he's been such a serial liar for so many decades, that he can't even tell that story straight!

  11. MasterThief   1 year ago

    Ctrl+F "dementia" =0 results
Cut the soft-pedalling bullshit that Biden's problem is that he's old. Anyone who has experience with people suffering dementia and alzheimers can see the red flags highlighting its symptoms in the limited, obviously drugged up exposure his team allows. He is effectively braindead and in regards to his mental capacity should be dealt with in past terms.
20 or 30 years ago, Biden was a middle to low intelligence person who lied constantly and was corrupt to the core. His political instincts were, in short, the antithesis of libertarianism. He has weilded all the power he's had in an anti-constitutional and partisan manner and the results of laws he has pushed have been disastrous. At this point he is a puppet and a figurehead whose animated corpse is being utilized by establishment forces to dick over the US and our allies across the globe. At this point, it's debatably better that the cognizant shitheads in his administration are in control than if his addled mental deficiencies are actually allowed to direct policy.
Robby, you and Reason go to great lengths to exaggerate and insult Trump and Republicans. If you weren't such partisan nitwits you'd be doing the same and more for Biden and Democrats while they work against your expressed values

"One can make the reasonable case that his victory demonstrated that he had effectively addressed Democratic primary voters' qualms."

Nope, not even close! The phrase "Yellow Dog Democrat" comes to mind in this context: Democratic partisans would have voted for a yellow dog if it had been on the ballot at that point. The DNC machine said so and Biden was the only Democrat who could have beaten Trump in that election at that time. They could not have cared less that Biden had to hide in the basement, propped up by full time handlers to even pretend to be mentally competent. Beating Trump was their ONLY conisderation.

Plus, Fetterman's condition means that having a functioning brain isn't actually a requirement to vote on issues like going to war with Eurasia.

My thoughts exactly. By making it about age, it lumps Trump in with Biden, even though Trump's mental faculties don't seem to be deteriorating.

To be fair, though, this article by Soave does go on to point out it's the mental decline that is the real problem with Biden, not specifically his age. But most mainstream articles simply use age as the proxy for mental decline to smear Trump as unfit as well.

Biden gets to have his cake and eat it too! He is declared not 'there' enough to be investigated, but also gets to say it isn't true with no fear of an investigation taking place. The only loser? Us.

It would be amusing if it wasn't an absolute travesty of the American political system.

The fact Biden can't remember when his son died should be the final nail in that coffin, and yet people act like it's perfectly normal not to remember the year or manner of their child's death.

There are only two options here, with a 3rd being 'both', and those are as follows:

    A) Joe Biden is a Sociopath

    B) Joe Biden has a compromising mental condition.

No Robby, he didn't just confirm that Biden is old. Kissinger was old, Soros is old, and yet they're as sharp as an average 60 yo man. Biden, first of all, had always been dull. Then he became old, and became even duller. Then he had two brain issues and subsequent surgeries, which made him even more duller. Last but not least, he's now utterly senile i.e. he has dementia and now he is the dullest person in all of D.C.

Apart from that, Hurr also confirmed that Biden committed crimes. Not once, not twice, but countless times... spanning decades, well before he became the current occupant of the White House. Which means that he committed much more serious crimes pertaining to the subject than Trump ever did. But unlike Trump, he isn't prosecuted as he's the tool of Team Blue.

    1. JAFO   1 year ago

Isn't it facinating that Blue supporters never challenge or question that part of the Special Counsel report?

This is the part that Reason remains willfully ignorant of. The only reason this investigation even happened is because the regime was preparing to prosecute Trump for the exact same thing. Hur's marching orders were to find some way to let him off the hook without looking completely corrupt. Faced with a mountain of incontrovertible evidence, much of it in the public record, that Biden was a serial criminal for decades, he had few options. The forgetful old grandpa defense was pretty novel because most of these crimes happened decades before Joe's dementia set in. It's amusing but predictable that the media is ignoring Biden's crimes and the obvious ploy by Hur and instead argue about something we were all ready well aware of.

She had not been able to get out of bed for years, and she was obviously just holding on until my son was born and she could see the first of the 5th generation, but there was nothing wrong with her mind.

There is one legitimate age-related problem with Biden and Trump - they are going to die someday, and their age considerably increases the chance that it will be before the end of the next Presidential term. Commentators should pay much more attention to the VP candidates, because it's quite possible that's who we are really voting for. But the bigger problem is that neither one of them has ever been all that wired into reality, and Biden has become much worse.

When Biden sought the Democratic nomination for president in 2020, he had to defeat a slew of other candidates. One can make the reasonable case that his victory demonstrated that he had effectively addressed Democratic primary voters' qualms

Why is Robbie framing his ability as only a concern for Dem primary voters? Is it because he understood accurately framing it as an issue for all voters he would not be able to claim it was addressed last election? Biden may have appeared in the Dem primaries, but in the general election the media dragged him across the finish line while his senile carcass rotted in his basement.

I really wish everyone, including articles like this, stop headlining "Old" - Old in itself is not bad. He has dementia. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that the report IS a mental fitness test and Biden failed. I'd go even farther and say that the report declares, quintessentially, that Biden is not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. This alone should disqualify him from office.

Robert Hur Confirmed What Everybody Knows: Biden Is Old

Biden further confirms this by saying: "I remember when Robert Hur used to race chariots."
