Comedy's Truthiness Problem
Hasan Minhaj’s stand-up tests the boundaries of fact and fiction.

In October 2005, Stephen Colbert invented a new word: truthiness.
In a short monologue for The Colbert Report, a satirical show where the comedian played a caricature of a conservative blowhard cable news anchor, he took issue with an approach to news that relied on facts and credible sources. "I don't trust books," Colbert said. "They're all fact, no heart. And that's exactly what's pulling our country apart today." Truthiness emanated from feeling rather than hard evidence, affirming beliefs backed by strong emotions.
This was during the George W. Bush administration, in the post-9/11 era, so inevitably Colbert brought up the war in Iraq. "Maybe there are a few missing pieces to the rationale for war. But doesn't taking Saddam out feel like the right thing? Right here," he said, pointing to his belly, "right here in the gut. Because that's where the truth comes from—the gut." In closing, Colbert promised to maintain a posture of truthiness as he conveyed the news to his viewers. "Anyone can read the news to you," he said, deadpan. "I promise to feel the news at you."
Truthiness entered the popular lexicon. Today, multiple dictionaries include the word. The general concept, sometimes but not always attached to the word, has become a prominent and recurring criticism of right-wing politics and journalism. Broadly speaking, the argument was that the Republican Party and the American right consistently ignored fact-based rigor when such rigor would prove inconvenient. As political discussion migrated to social media, the critique followed, with Democrats increasingly prone to warning about misinformation and disinformation online.
Colbert transitioned to a new role as a conventional late-night talk-show host, playing himself rather than a comic caricature. But he continued to emphasize that the right wing was prone to exaggerations, telling omissions, conspiracy theories, and outright falsehoods. In early 2022, he released a fictional Spotify playlist for vaccine misinformation, in response to what he said were harmful inaccuracies spread on the service by popular podcaster Joe Rogan. A gag ad for the playlist that aired on his late night show pronounced: "We hit shuffle on your understanding of basic facts." Lol.

One wonders what Colbert feels, in his gut, about Hasan Minhaj.
Like Colbert, Minhaj is a comedian by trade—he has two Netflix specials to his credit. And like Colbert, Minhaj often wields his comedy to political ends. Minhaj is Indian-American, and his stand-up specials tell personal stories of racism and mistreatment. He frequently criticizes former President Donald Trump and the post-9/11 domestic security apparatus.
From 2018 through 2020, Minhaj hosted Patriot Act, a left-leaning news-and-comedy Netflix series. Patriot Act was reminiscent of The Daily Show, Comedy Central's longrunning pseudo-newscast, which from 1997 through 2005 featured Colbert as a "correspondent." After Daily Show host Trevor Noah announced in late 2022 he was leaving the show, Minhaj was widely reported as a top contender for the slot.
The Daily Show is a comedy program, with jokes and snark and play-acted absurdities. But it is also a current affairs program designed to inform its viewers. During the peak of its cultural influence—in the mid-'00s, when it was hosted by Jon Stewart—pundits occasionally grumbled that too many young people were getting their news from Stewart.
The show faded in relevance after Stewart left, but it spawned several imitators, including HBO's Last Week Tonight, hosted by John Oliver (another Daily Show alum), and even another Jon Stewart series, The Problem with Jon Stewart, on the Apple TV+ streaming service (recently canceled). Liberal comics weren't just mocking the news. They were delivering it and explaining it, with clarity and moral forcefulness.
Minhaj seemed to fit into this tradition. So it was notable that when Clare Malone profiled him for The New Yorker in September, she reported that she could not verify multiple stories that Minhaj had told during his stand-up specials. Invariably, these were personal stories designed to make a political point, generally about state or personal mistreatment of people like Minhaj.
One story from the Netflix specials revolves around a man who became close with Minhaj, his family, and their mosque in 2002. The man, dubbed "Brother Eric," was white; he claimed to be a Muslim convert. After insinuating himself into their lives, Minhaj said, Brother Eric tried to coax some of the young men at the mosque into talking about jihad.
Minhaj recounts believing that Eric was a law enforcement informant; as a sort of gag, Minhaj says he told Brother Eric that he hoped to get a pilot's license. This resulted in a visit from the police, as Minhaj told it, who knocked his head into the hood of a police car. Years later, Minhaj says his family watched a news account in which a man resembling Brother Eric was revealed to be an FBI informant. The young Minhaj, it seems, had seen through the ruse.
Almost none of this is true. There was a man resembling Brother Eric who acted as an FBI informant. But as Malone reported, he was in prison in 2002 and didn't begin working with the feds until 2006. He did no work in the area Minhaj's story was said to have taken place.
In other words, the time, the place, and specifics of Minhaj's personal experience—his eyewitness account, leading to a supposed violent encounter with police—were totally fabricated.
In another anecdote from the special, Minhaj recalls receiving an envelope of white powder at his home. In Minhaj's telling, the suspicious white powder came into contact with his young daughter, who was rushed to the hospital.
But Malone found no police account that matched this event. In an interview with Minhaj, the comedian "admitted that his daughter had never been exposed to a white powder, and that she hadn't been hospitalized." Instead, he'd received a powder in the mail and joked to his wife it might have been anthrax.
Minhaj, confronted with reported evidence that many of his stories have been false or heavily exaggerated, defended his work. "Every story in my style is built around a seed of truth," he told Malone. "My comedy Arnold Palmer is seventy percent emotional truth—this happened—and then thirty percent hyperbole, exaggeration, fiction."
Emotional truth. Put another way, Minhaj's argument was that his stories didn't need to be actually true because they felt true. Minhaj was defending truthiness as good and righteous, so long as it was in service of the proper sort of political narrative. He wasn't just reporting the news to you; he was feeling the news at you.
***
Malone's profile chronicled other purported gaps in Minhaj's stories. In one anecdote, Minhaj recounts being rejected by a prom date. She was white, he was not, and although she initially accepted his invitation, Minhaj says that at the moment he arrived at her home to pick her up, she backed out in humiliating fashion: There was another boy at her door placing a corsage. In the special, Minhaj says the reason she backed out was because her parents didn't want her taking photos with a person of color.
After Malone interviewed the woman from the story, whose name has not been made public, she reported a different version of the events. She told Malone the rejection happened, but not on prom night; it occurred days prior. "Minhaj acknowledged that this was correct," Malone wrote, "but he said that the two of them had long carried different understandings of her rejection." In the following sentence, she quotes him saying that as a "brown kid" in California, he'd been conditioned to "just take it."
"The 'emotional truth' of the story he told onstage was resonant and justified the fabrication of details," Malone wrote. According to the reporter, the woman also said she'd been invited to a performance of a stand-up routine in which Minhaj told the prom night story. "She had initially interpreted the invitation as an attempt to rekindle an old friendship, but she now believes the move was meant to humiliate her."
Weeks after Malone's story appeared, the comedian released a video response. The video runs a little more than 20 minutes, and in it Minhaj claims Malone excised important portions of his quotes and distorted their meaning.
In it, Minhaj argues that the New Yorker story was "needlessly misleading." The largest portion of his response is focused on the prom night story. He shows emails between himself and the woman in the story appearing to show that she requested an invite to his performance. He also takes issue with Malone's use of the "different understandings of her rejection" quote, arguing that Malone's presentation lacked context and that it implied he had made up the racial motivation for the rejection. He delivers a fuller version of the quote that more clearly makes his point: that the woman didn't understand how much he'd been hurt by the incident.
The video then addresses the Brother Eric and anthrax stories. In both cases, he admits the stories didn't happen the way he told them onstage. Although he says he had interactions with undercover law enforcement, "it didn't go down exactly like this, so I understand why people are upset."
Introducing the anthrax story, he recounts some details from the comedy special, then says, "This, as you know, is not how it went down." He apologized for embellishing the stories, but he defends his embellishments as necessary to spotlight some larger truth. Over the course of the video, he argues that his falsehoods (though he does not use that word) were necessary to make his stories clearer, more accessible, more relatable to his audience.
Was there a bit of truthiness in The New Yorker's exposé? Or was Minhaj's defense itself an exercise in obfuscation?
A Slate review of Minhaj's defense concluded that "almost everything the New Yorker article alleges appears to line up with Minhaj's version of the facts, except for some of the details of the prom date story." After Minhaj posted his video, Malone tweeted: "Hasan Minhaj confirms in this video that he selectively presents information and embellishes to make a point: exactly what we reported." The New Yorker stood by the story.
***
One might argue that comedy specials do not have a journalistic responsibility to hew to the truth. Minhaj has indicated that he draws a line between his stand-up work and his more journalistic output on Patriot Act.
Certainly, Minhaj is far from the first comedian to exaggerate, embellish, or outright lie for laughs. Indeed, there is a long and noble tradition of lying for laughter. If a silly story makes you guffaw in amusement, there is no need for it to be true.
But Minhaj's stand-up fabrications weren't just jokes. In some cases they weren't even jokes at all, and weren't presented as tall tales: They were presented as clear-eyed truths about American prejudice. In that New Yorker story, Minhaj explicitly defended the use of falsehoods to make a point more powerful. "The punch line," he told Malone, "is worth the fictionalized premise." In his defense video, he says he "made artistic choices to express myself and drive home larger issues affecting me and my community."
Moreover, although Patriot Act had a research department with fact checkers, Minhaj reportedly found them frustrating. "In one instance," Malone wrote, "Minhaj grew frustrated that fact-checking was stymying the creative flow during a final rewrite, and a pair of female researchers were asked to leave the writers' room."
Minhaj's work on Patriot Act was what made him a potential successor to Stewart and Noah on The Daily Show. But in late October, online news outlet Puck reported that although Minhaj had nearly closed a deal to take the reins at The Daily Show, he would not be getting the gig.
When Stewart left The Daily Show in 2015, he used his final monologue to issue a warning about the world of news and commentary. "Bullshit is everywhere," he said. "There is very little in life that has not been, in some ways, infused with bullshit." While some minor exaggeration was innocuous and even necessary to function socially, he said, viewers needed to be on the lookout for "the more pernicious bullshit. Your premeditated, institutional bullshit, designed to obscure and distract. Designed by who? The bullshitocracy."
He had some good news, though. "Bullshitters have gotten pretty lazy," Stewart said. "And their work is easily detected."

Truthiness? Fuck off!
Truth is reality.
Anything either is or isn’t real.
Maybe only describes ignorance.
So when are you going to stop lying about the holocaust, lying vermin? (sarcasmic says I shouldn't call you that and wants to be pals, BTW)
I don't care if you call people vermin. You're just advertising your hatred and approval of murder. That's all.
Is he mocking a woman who was unarmed and shot by a Capitol Officer in good faith?
I find it again funny you and Jeff never cared about the use of vermin and dehumanization until corporate media gave you the narrative to use it to attack trump. Sure the media has used it against conservatives for nearly 8 years, but this time it is wrong!!!
Principles!
With your penchant for telling the same lies over and over and over and over and over you should have been a police officer.
What lie sarc? Your bald accusations are always bald.

BTW I can’t recall “corporate media” (which somehow excludes right-wing media as if it’s not corporate) using the word vermin. If I had seen or heard them doing that I would have spoken up about it.
Again, you should have been a cop the way you make stuff up, claim it to be the truth, and stick to it no matter what.
edit: added “seen and heard them doing that” in case ML wants to argue against the pre-edit post, since he says it’s against the rules to edit comments.
And here sarc shows what a pathalogical liar he is as I've posted it close to a dozen times at this point in threads he and Jeff are active in showing the use. Sarc. Why do you fucking lie so much?
https://twitter.com/0rf/status/1732746683274932259
You have been active in threads this has been posted many many times.
You really are a piece of shit =)
“If I had seen or heard them doing that I would have spoken up about it.”
Nobody believes this. You’ve become as big of a liar as your pal.
He is basically admitting he just pushes corporate media narratives.
sarcasmic
BTW I can’t recall “corporate media” ...using the word vermin.
Of course he can't. He's only interested in attacking the right and thus pays no attention to the left. That's why he repeatedly attacks the right and only later discovers the left has repeatedly violated those same standards.
"Is he mocking a woman who was unarmed and shot by a Capitol Officer in good faith?"
No. Yesterday, no word of a lie, sarcasmic lectured me that it was wrong to hate to hate Nazis and Communists
Then, again, I swear it's the truth, sarcasmic told me that the hundreds of millions of people murdered weren't the Nazis and Communists fault ... it was the fault of... wait for it... their governments.
For those that don't believe that even a drunken retard could say something so immoral and stupid, here sarcasmic is in all his glory. It starts here and read down: https://reason.com/2024/01/20/the-separation-of-race-and-state/?comments=true#comment-10407991
Damn, so completely historically illiterate it’s actually sad.
I like how him and Jeff are blindly pushing the leftist narrative of authoritarian trump as Biden is literally saying the below publicly and has done so multiple times.
Biden said, “And I love people who say, the ‘blood of liberty,’ or excuse me, ‘the tree of liberty is watered with the blood of patriots.’ Well, guess what, man, I didn’t see a whole lot of patriots that are out there walking around making sure that we have these weapons…And if you really want to worry about the government, you need an F-16.”
"You’re just advertising your hatred and approval of murder."
One of these things I didn't do, you mendacious, lying fuck. You want to be honest for a change and say which I didn't endorse, or will you continue to be a dishonest piece of shit.
Wrong spot
Dishonest, holocaust-denying, Nazi's are absolutely vermin. Sorry, not sorry.

"his clothes are infested with vermin"

"Nothin wrong with killing as long as the right people get killed." - Dirty Harry
Which holocaust are you referring to?
The holocaust Jews are committing in Gaza today and are currently on trial for in the international court of justice?
Or the 166 different holocausts that Jews falsely claimed to be victims of between 1900 and 1945 to beg for money and undeserved sympathy?
You need to be more specific.
Well you're deliberately and purposefully lying about both, so there's no need for specifics you fucking garbage human.
Lying waste of skin Jews not only deny the holocaust they’re currently committing but some are even stupid enough to deny that they’re on trial for it in the ICJ.
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/19/world/europe/israel-south-africa-genocide-icj.html
Funny choice since the NYT protected both NAZI and communists back in the day.
Anti Semitic governments makes claims against Israel, news at 11. This happens every fucking year dumdum.
Being a terrorist apartheid state like Israel is nothing to brag about, much less support.
You’re a lying waste of skin Jew.
“ The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, marked a historic precedent on 11 January 2024, as the highest judicial body of the United Nations began considering the claims of the Republic of South Africa (RSA) in its lawsuit against Israel alleging the commission of “the crime of genocide” against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. South Africa accused Israel before the ICJ, of violating the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide[2] and committing “acts of genocide” in the Gaza Strip. South Africa believes that the attack carried out by Hamas on 7 October cannot justify Israel’s actions in Gaza.
It is a historic precedent as it is the first time a Jewish state is prosecuted under the UN Convention on Genocide, enacted after World War Il”

And who made the claims dumdum?
Any state can submit a claim. Just like any state can start a UN petition. You are easily convinced of your antisemetic bullshit not being bullshit.
When the ICJ rules that Israel is committing genocide, a holocaust, with full support from the US government, maybe bibi and Biden will swing on the gallows together.
You can join them.
Can we hang retarded holocaust deniers too?
I thought due process required a presumption of innocence. Are you saying Israel is guilty merely because South Africa filed a claim. I surely hope not. Certainly you are more rational than that right? And why no claim against Russia for genocide against the Ukrainians? And what about China and the Uyghurs? Now that is a REAL case of likely genocide. Hey, are you also yelling about the Kurds? What about the Armenians? Somalians?
"...Certainly you are more rational than that right?..."
This is the unrepentant Nazi Misek; not a chance at all.
People are stupid. Most would rather believe a lie than the truth – either because they wish it were true, or are afraid it might be.
- Wizard's First Rule
Yes people are stupid, particularly when they form groups. Individually, they tend to think better.
When have you ever seen anyone refute anything that I’ve said? Prove it, with a link and description of exactly what was refuted.
So how could you possibly deny the truth of anything that I’ve said without yourself being abysmally stupid?
Dude, bravo. I started reading your quote and immediately recognized it from Terry Goodkind. I fucking love that series. I think I can still quote all of the Wizard's Rules. For those who haven't read it, the Wizard's Rules are basically logic/reason and common sense.
Perhaps my favorite is Rule Eight: Taalga Vasternich (sp?, my High D'Haran is iffy), which means, "Deserve Victory." It had bothered me for the first seven books why he has to abstain from eating meat to balance out the justified killing he has to do. I kept thinking, why do you need to balance out JUSTIFIED killing in self defense or defense of innocents?
And to anyone else reading this, who likes fantasy, but doesn't like how so much of it now is "wokefied," Goodkind's Sword of Truth series is amazing. The author is a self-described Objectivist (the philosophy of Ayn Rand) and the bad guys are Marxists (without using that label). Book Six, Faith of the Fallen, would be his tribute to Rand, combining the themes of Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead.
Sorry to Nerd out on everyone...
Misek: I want to kill all of those people because it's bad to believe in killing all of a certain people.
And nothing you say in defense of Holocaust Denial is real!
Fuck Off, Nazi!
Except Jews, amirite?
What dirty secrets do Jews have on so many world leaders that they will throw their nations under the bus to support Jewish atrocities unconditionally?
Jews extended WW1 by duping the antiwar US into the war in exchange for Britain’s promise of Palestine via the Balfour Declaration
Jews drove Germany into WW2 by coordinating global boycotts of all German trade in 1933
Jews are blatantly committing genocide in Palestine coercing the US and its allies to ignore international law, for what, WW3?
Fuck off and die, Nazi shit pile.
You lost me at Stephen Colbert.
On another note, damn it's been cold here and I've worked every day through it. Makes my collection of bourbon , scotch, Irish and Canadian seem like a good investment.
HOTTEST YEAR ON RECORD!
The official recording sites are too cold to monitor the temperature so we moved them inside.
/probably.
Lol
I remember when it was below zero for weeks in January and February. Now it might get into the single digits for a few days. While I’m very sceptical of computer models and doomsday predictions, winter just isn’t as cold as it used to be. At least not where I live.
edit: added "for a few days" in case ML wants to argue against the pre-edit post.
I don’t think it’s a good idea for us to rely on your memory.
This made me laugh by the way.
And a Swiss cheese memory at that.
"January thaw" has long been a thing that people talk about. But it does seem to be the case that winters in New England haven't been as cold in recent years as they have been for most of my life. Lakes are freezing later and thawing earlier (last year was particularly notable for this) and there seem to be more episodes of warm weather and rain in between the cold snaps. The past year has probably been an anomaly, but there does seem to be a trend towards less cold winters. I don't think anyone has a good understanding of why that is.
Alcohol, however, doesn't warm the body. It only gives a truthiness version of warmth, while actually reducing the body's temperature. Not a good thing to embibe in extreme cold weather. Save it to drink for the Summer or use it as a barter item in a SHTF scenario.
OK, mom.
OK, Son. It's your life. Just don't come crying to me if you end up like Jack on The Shining.

You didn't get it, did you?
Well, I suppose too much of talking heads like Colbert and Stewart could drive anyone to drink themselves to death, so that's understandable...
But don't do it, Dawg! They're just not worth it!
🙂
😉
In his defence he has to do a charicatur(really it's strawman) of a conservative, because there is no parodying the trash on the left
Strawmastic.
Yeah. Even further, “truthiness” is almost two decades old and more contextually "funny" than “Whazzup!”, “Well, that escalated quickly!”, or “I must be taking crazy pills!” It’s pretty clear it was relatively impromptu, it’s not like the script for that day’s or week’s episode of the show was written month and months beforehand.
At this point, generally talking about “Truthiness” as some sort of profound watershed moment or touchstone moment in media is more indicative of a desire to suck Colbert’s cock than anything. Rush Limbaugh said way more profound things than Colbert ever managed to trip over his dick on. I couldn’t tell you any one of what Limbaugh said off the top of my head and understand that not everybody listened to Limbaugh in the 00s, so to treat whatever he said like that would be stupid.
One might argue that comedy specials do not have a journalistic responsibility to hew to the truth.
That is correct, and that's why this whole article is silly. IT'S A FUCKING COMEDY ACT. Jesus.
It's weird to bring up Stewart and Colbert as an attack against the right's inaccuracies. Early on, both had some connection to truth as they both played their caricatures. Over time they just became democrat propagandists who lied about everything to attack Republicans. This article would be better if it focused on how the left is most guilty of their own "truthiness" epithet since they are overall emotive thinkers
"MRNA INJECTIONS STOP INFECTION AND TRANSMISSION. YOU'RE KILLING GRANDMA!!!"
When Stewart started he would go after both parties from a same ideological perspective. But he was still often wrong, he simply made jokes towards both. As his ratings grew and he became a "news source" he was still wrong but producers shifted to being anti conservative almost exclusively. Colbert was always in this latter production style. Now he is just a propagandist with dancing shots.
Yeah, I enjoyed Stewart for a few years, with at least a facade of skewering idiots on both sides. And commenting on some issues that he really seemed to care about.
Colbert always was and always will be a dick.
but whipped out side by side... its a horse race as to whether he beats Kimmel or not as biggest dick
Jimmy "bouncing tits on trampolines" Kimmel will still retain the crown for biggest hypocrite.
Is it the blackface or crying like a little bitch all the time?
Yes.
lol, that was going to be my answer too.
I have a friend who believed for a while that Colbert's caricature news reporter shtick was earnest. Eventually, even he realized he was being skewered. He wasn't stupid, not really, just incredibly naive.
It was always intended as a joke on conservatives, and may have persuaded a few real hicks to up their game. But when he took over David Letterman's show he started to air his real beliefs -- so now all his jokes fall flat before he's finished getting them past his teeth. Colbert is a pitiful excuse for a human being, a great example of truthiness, and a waste of oxygen -- second in all three only to John Oliver.
I thought Colbert was funny back in the day. He was hilarious in Strangers With Candy. And yeah he went after "conservatives" but it wasn't mean spirited. He even had O'Reilly on the show a few times. But as with most of our elite he was permanently damaged by Orange Man. Just shrieking TRUMP IS A BIG POOPY HEAD over and over apparently appealed to his brain damaged audience but it wasn't funny. Same with SNL. It's predictable that Suderman characterizes all of this as somehow speaking truth to power when in the end it was the death of comedy.
My first knowledge of Colbert was his roast of Bush at that annual press shindig, which was funny, and also funny that whoever invited him apparently, allegedly, didn't know he'd do that. But when he stuck to slapping the right only, I lost all interest in him. Now if he'd roasted boaf sidez, or all sides, he would have continued being a comedian. All he is now is just another partisan hack.
This is why south park has been so successful for so long.
You'll recall "Stewart's show" started with Craig Kilborn. The writing and staff were more evenhanded and it was actually a bit of a spoof of "serious journalism", almost akin to SNL's weekend update.
Reading the tea leaves a bit, The Network wanted a more serious news show, creator Liz Winstead wanted something more like SNL's weekend update, Kilborn wanted a more host-focused show, hacks like Colbert felt Winstead's vision was cruel and the whole thing exploded. Stewart and the writing team that came in were "The Network's" "comedic" vision.
People laughing at them as though they were part of some counter culture by roasting Bush and Cheney is every inch the SSDD of people wearing Che Guevara t-shirts and listening to RATM.
Stewart's always been a fucking poser. He's primarily responsible for pushing this dumb, and completely fake, "boaf sydez" narrative that's really a unity-criticism-unity tactic that demands political amiability in the direction of the left.
Recall that one of his most famous media moments was the Crossfire episode in the early 2000s where he argued that Paul Begala and Tucker Carlson were arguing from "extreme" political positions. The whole premise was a load of shit. There's absolutely nothing extreme about strong political disagreements, but his remarks inculcated this idea within Gen-Xers and Millennials that having such disagreements is a threat to national unity. That's why these idiots are all pushing this "our democracy" nonsense now--it's directly rooted in Stewart's faux-centrist pose that slammed the right every time, while making token criticisms of the left that weren't moving in that direction hard enough.
Stewart's been the biggest dose of political poison this country ever had.
He’s primarily responsible for pushing this dumb, and completely fake, “boaf sydez” narrative that’s really a unity-criticism-unity tactic that demands political amiability in the direction of the left.
Unclear, IMO, on whether he's a product of it or responsible for it, but true believer either way and it's ultimately what's made him, and peers, unfunny.
When you can't conceptualize that calling someone names isn't the same critique or humor as belittling someone's beliefs (whether you share them or not), you're out of touch at a level that even traditional left-leaning and right-leaning people expect children to understand.
Unclear, IMO, on whether he’s a product of it or responsible for it, but true believer either way and it’s ultimately what’s made him, and peers, unfunny.
I'd argue that he's the primary vector for it, because he fully embraced the status he had as being a media sage.
Also, I'd argue that Minaj's biggest sin isn't making up stupid shit about his life for his act, because people do that all the time. But what I do despise about him is that he epitomizes the DEI "applause comedy" ethic that became common in 2000s, where comedians acted as evangelicals for their marxist religion.
Those shows became so notorious for "creative" editing of interviews to make people they did not like say things they really did not. To such an extent that guests would have their own recordings of interviews.
Its a comedy act where he adds straight bits detailing prejudices he's faced in his life.
Except he's making the events up while using *real people he knows* as the people perpetrating the fake prejudice, smearing their names for things they didn't do.
Only the "right" believes in conspiracy theories? Really? The left/woke have their own:
White Supremacy
Christian Nationalism
The "Insurrection"
The Patriarchy
Corporations Want To Poison Us And Are Restrained Only By Regulation
Books Are Being Banned
Can you think of some more?
White Supremacy... Elements of the right are guilty of this, not the left
Christian Nationalism... Elements of the right are guilty of this, not the left
The “Insurrection”... Elements of the right are guilty of this very real (if amateur) insurrection, not the left... The right is the author of TOTALLY made-up lies about "stolen erections"!!! See Sidney Powell etc.
The Patriarchy... Elements of the right are guilty of this, not the left... Think womb-slaves. WHY are there womb-slaves?
Corporations Want To Poison Us And Are Restrained Only By Regulation... TRUTH, at last! Way to go, to include SOME truth here! This IS a lie of the left!
Books Are Being Banned... Yes, they are being banned... By the RIGHT! (True that this issue would mostly disappear if there was NO public education, all private... And I support that idea... But it is NOT gonna happen any time soon!)
Hey, NaziSqrlsy, got any actual links for those droppings? Or did you just shit them out of your keyboard?
He'll pull up some discredited Salon rant or Sullum rage from for years ago, which he knows is bullshit but it's all he's got.
Why should I send you ANY links, Insane Sea-Lion? You'll just shit on them anyway, since You Are Already Perfect In Your Own Mind, just like Moose-Mammary-Farter-Fuhrer and all of the udder, udderly mind-fossilized tribalists around here!
NO pearls before muddy-and-shitty power-pig swine from me today, sorry!!!
Well OK, one then...
AFTER one presents the facts (and the well-reasoned and ethical “right thing to do”), and the stupid and evil still resist… Because they are stupid and evil… Then one has to shrug, and say to oneself, “all that is left to me now, sad to say, is to warn others that we are dealing, here, with stupid and evil people”. John the Baptist AND Jesus had to deal with the same thing. Or do you think that THEY were stupid and evil, stupid and evil one?
https://biblehub.com/matthew/23-33.htm
You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.
I know better than to post links because all they'll do is attack the source while ignoring the content.
Cite?
I mean everyone here is the only ones who reads shrikes links to show him he didn't even read the article. Stop projecting your own behaviors.
*snort*
What an intelligent defense of your false assertion.
My point was that no matter what I "cite" you're going to attack the source not the content. Then you demand a cite. Hilarious!
I refute what you say by pointing out that your sources are "left wing"! This is the last refuge of the brainless liars!
Hunter Biden art does concern me, to be clear about it. However, this is an opportune time to call attention to the hyper-partisans, who will “refute” what you say, by pointing out that your source is “from the wrong tribe”!
Leftist media bias by Vox is a fib sometimes! Hunter Biden art…
https://www.vox.com/2021/8/3/22601671/hunter-biden-art-sales-walter-shaub “Why Obama’s former ethics czar is highly critical of Hunter Biden’s lucrative art sales … There have been many bad-faith “scandals” linked to the president’s son. Walter Shaub thinks this one should be taken seriously.
I wonder if the Trumpaloos will now show up to say that Vox is liberally biased, and can't be trusted? This here “Vox” article MUST mean that Hunter Biden is a GREAT artist, and there are NO opportunities for corruption, here!
https://www.allsides.com/news-source/vox-news-media-bias
“VOX” rated as far-left as is allowed… The needle is pegged!
PROOF, then, that Hunter Biden art is of NO concern to stalwart conservatives and Trumpaloos! (Since Vox always lies, of course).
Do you have an example. This is what the question Cite? Is asking for.
Because the last few times you have posted links to daily mail, such as the infamous defending a school shooter due to bullying thread, myself and others used the content of your article. We didn't attack the source. This has been almost as common as with shrike.
Youre a pathological liar sarc.
"I refute what you say by pointing out that your sources are “left wing”!..."
Fuck off and die, spastic asshole.
F-, Sqrlsy. Come up with better copypasta next time.
“White Supremacy… Elements of the right are guilty of this, not the left”
This is fucking laughable. Didn’t need to read any further.
White Supremacy ... The entire left of the past is guilty of this. (the party of slavery)
Black Supremacy ... The entire left today is *pridefully* guilty of this.
Female Supremacy ... The entire left today is *pridefully* guilty of this.
Leftards selling self-projection. It never ends.

God, you guys are so fucking boring. You're like the nerd table at lunch in middle school with a bunch of losers just insulting each other and everyone else has to listen to it. Get each other's emails, rant in private, and leave this as a forum for adults to discuss the news of the day.
A lot of those aren't pure conspiracy theories. They're just blatant gaslighting. Some are obvious projection.
Now that I type that, there's irony in that "conservatives are conspiracy theorists" is the thing, because it was largely projection from the pre internet days, when it was very well known that the lefties were the loonies.
Like the "Bush is a liar" trope that was repeated ad nauseum because he campaigned on Clinton being a liar and by using the slogan against him they memory-holed where it came from. Or the constant carping in 2008 (amped up later) about Republicans rigging the voting to memory hole the fact that Democrats (Johnson in Texas, Chicago... well always but obviously starting at JFK) had a long history of being the party where the dead could vote.
Ferguson was real (forget the cops shot and killed in NYC and Dallas) as the media pushed the bs as did the Obama Admin who has their blood on their hands.
Skimmed the lists so not sure if you addressed these:
Free speech is the Hallmark of fascism.
Deregulation and cutting bureaucracy is the hallmark of fascism.
Nazism was an ultra Christian movement.

Joe Biden is the president.
So was Woodrow Wilson after his stroke.
We can't be sure. They might be deep faking his presidency at this point.
You mean both sides promote a whole lot of stupid?
Golly, maybe that's why it's better to be on the sidelines.

Literally yesterday Trump praised Orban as a strongman. That is what White Supremacy and Christian Nationalism is
You mean the sarcastic remark where the media ignore the entirety of his statement?
Those darn Christian peasants, eh? They need to shut up and be ruled.
Praising Orban is White Supremacy? Brainwashed much? He is just sick of his country getting kicked around and is standing up for it against an unelected gang in Brussels telling soverign nations how to run their country. And they are not as stupid as the rest of Europe and the US to allow their countries to be overrun by migrants.
People like you allow this false narrative that it is racist to not want an unsupportable number of people to enter the country. I'm from St. Paul. We have 186,000 people in our town. 13.5 St. Pauls have arrived in the last year, 40 St. Pauls in the last three years.
He chooses truth over facts.
Peter, if you buy comedy to learn about reality, any misunderstanding which results is on you. Caveat emptor, eh?
We have obviously pile of shit apologist for lefty 'parody' masquerading as comedy.
Truthiness problem? Modern comedy has a comedy problem. If they knew how to actually be funny instead of spouting Woke shit, comedy might actually be funny again.
Bring back Sam Kinison and Andrew Dice Clay.
Richard Pryor thank God there's prisons
I WANT MY RECORDS BACK!
I'll be honest, I never found ADC to be funny. Except for his movies. Awesome movies and he's pretty awesome in them.
Be fair. 21st century progressive puritans have the same ability (and tolerance) for comedy as 20th century conservative puritans (and 17th century actual puritans).

Looks like this Minhaj guy did something that pissed off Koch, Trump, the QAnon crowd, Jesus, and bigots in general.
What about you then, Kirkles? You're a bigot in general.
he is our bigot in residence..
if he were in the army he'd be General Bigot
... because he'd be worthy of the rank
[he's quite rank!]
Yes, what about you then, Arthur Loser Kirkland?
If you’re going to just phone it in, don’t even bother to post.
As long as he doesn't go all BDS movement, the "left" will give him a pass. Sort of like Harvard huh?
Lol. Who woulda guessed that adjective Artie supports making shit up to divide people?
It’s basically his entire schtick.
Speaking of Truthiness:
The Patriot Front are currently marching down at the World Trade Center
Hoyt said: Note, pants from government supplier, and not cheap. One of the guys tries to mix it up by…. having white laces on the cop boots. Those jackets, too. (VertX?) Yeah.
It’s not just that they try psy-ops against the American people, but the insult of thinking they’d believe it, that is hard to swallow. The only people who are going to fall for it were already going to vote their way. Everyone else just gets horrified and pissed off at them.

Do you think they actually conscribe them to the kitchen to make sandwiches or just tell them they have to look like everyone else if they want to come along because that’s what they think real patriots would do?
Remember when these dickheads were trying to make the Boogaloo Boys a thing during the Floyd riots, when it was obvious that whole gayop glowed brighter than the sun?
With hindsight, I think many of the tiki torchers in Charlottesville fit the mold as well.
Pepperidge Farms remembers.
But he continued to emphasize that the right wing was prone to exaggerations, telling omissions, conspiracy theories, and outright falsehoods.
While I can't stand Colbert, he hit that nail on the head.
(cue a chorus of whatabouts)
Keep going with criticism and evidence of censorship and vaccine effectiveness was a conspiracy theory because you can't admit to being wrong. Lol.
Right on cue.
What is? Pointing out how you've been wrong on virtually every story and refuse to admit it?
its just a proper function of the commentariat … like community notes on X
it alerts anyone not already aware…that there is a context to be considered with your remarks
all of ours actually (from time to time), but yours and a few others particularly
"Cue a chorus of whatabouts"
If you weren't a medacious drunken retard you know that valid comparisons are valid, and cries of "whataboutism" are a pejorative fallacy that in itself is manipulative and serves the motive of discrediting. The accusation of it is a form of strategic framing and has a framing effect.
TLDR, calling "whataboutism" is usually itself a form of fallacy.
What is CRT and "systemic racism" but a conspiracy theory that will not accept evidence to the contrary?
And it is a conservative mantra that "facts do not care about your feelings".
Critical Theory teaches that EVERYTHING is a conspiracy.
Never-mind most all of those … “exaggerations, telling omissions, conspiracy theories, and outright falsehoods” … ended up having undeniable evidence of being completely true.
The latest and most appalling one being that COVID was created in a lab. I mean good grief; If you can't even maintain a conspiracy theory label on something that insane you've got nothing.
Course that’s what leftards do. Run around calling things names because they aren’t the party of discovery or truth. They are the party of name callings, biases, tribalism and power. It’s right there in their parties very foundation of “democracy” … The [WE] identity mob RULES!
My father in law was watching "the best of Saturday night live Christmas special" there was 1 skit post 2010 and most were from the 80s and 90s.
Van down by the river... The funniest part of that whole bit, was the first time Farley wasn't supposed to break the table, but he got so into the character and flailing about that he fell and broke the table and didn't even break character, just went with it. If you watch his co-stars they're doing their best not to crack up laughing because it was so over the top and Farley just kept going with it. Didn't even break a smile. Just jumped up and kept on with his tirade. Of course this just proves that Germans love David Hassellhoff.
Phil Hartman, pro that he is, was the only never to break on those skits. Farley would absolutely destroy Spade and Sandler, though--you could tell he was trying to get them to crack every time.
The good ones always die young. Hartman, Farley, Jim Belushi, Norm MacDonald.
Wait, Jim belushi is dead?
Wait, Jim belushi is good?
Shellenberger has a tweet thread about both Soros buying politicians and corporate media. Links to his Twitter are getting eaten by comment system and even getting duplicate post messages despite not posting. But it is on X.

Then the larger truth is not any more important than the lie told to put a spotlight on it.

This just in - The MCU and DCU are fiction. In the next hour, politicians and pundits react.
I'm pretty sure Mark Ruffalo does turn into a green monster when he gets mad, though.
No, he turns red and puffs up when he gets mad. Eyes water from the tears and he gets a runny nose. Because he's a fucking pussy.
Not finished reading, but this is my problem with the influence books like Uncle Tom's Cabin are said to have. They're fiction, so why should they motivate anyone? They're said to be based on facts like that, but then why isn't a recounting of the facts equally motivating?
The two most influential books in a young man's life are atlas shrugged and lord of the rings. One is an epic journey filled with monstrous villains and larger than life heros. The other has hobbits
Ha!
I've always thought Atlas Shrugged was her most fumbled and disjoint book. Fountainhead and We The Living are far better both written and in consistency.
Das Kapital and Lucifer's Hammer. One is an analysis about the worst aspects of human nature and the catastrophic progression towards the end of civilization, including scarcity, cannibalism, and potentially the end of all human life as we know it. The other one has a comet.
There is a very long list of “muckraking” fiction to wade through if you’re going down that line. Silent Spring, The Jungle and so on. There’s a serious side to truthiness in comedy and fiction. Although it might be interesting to try to find out WHY people are motivated by fiction, the simple fact remains that they ARE motivated by it. If you became a “libertarian” you can start with what motivated you to believe in the principles of liberty. In my case it started with Robert Anson Heinlein’s fiction and was sealed by Ayn Rand’s “Atlas Shrugged.” The truthiness of those fictional stories got me interested in switching from social justice (not what we called it back than) to freedom. Only then did I read “The Road to Serfdom” and “Economics in One Lesson.” Milton Friedman’s series, “Free To Choose” illustrates the principles better than lengthier books and essays can do which is why I think that fiction motivates people more effectively than more accurate and logical books that they’re never going to even read in the first place.
The invisible hart by russ roberts
Thing is, as a simple example, Ayn Rand's novels never made any claims that they were true in any way. They are obviously fiction, but they are fiction designed to illuminate a particular world view and are clearly labeled as such.
They are akin to a parable, which is a made up story that is intended to teach a lesson. You could also look to Aesop's Fables for other older examples.
The same could be said of people like Colbert and Stewart. I have no problem putting them in that category. The problem isn't the messenger in these cases, it's rather a problem with the emotive reasoning of the viewers. It 'feels' true, so therefore it must be true. One could, perhaps, argue that they intentionally mislead people on that point but frankly I don't see it. Colbert and Stewart were never 'news sources' even if they happen to tangentially have some news in them. As far as I know, neither of them ever seriously claimed to be a news anchor.
Sure, I don't think they are funny but then I'm not their intended audience. The fact their audience is apparently dumb enough to think they are news sources is basically the radio broadcast of War of the Worlds all over again, which is sort of ironic since the histrionic response to that broadcast was itself essentially fake news.
She actually called We The Living the most biographical.
From Wikipedia:
Rand observes in the foreword that We the Living was the closest she would ever come to writing an autobiography.
Which obviously implies that it was not an autobiography.
This isn't a defense, or attack, for Rand. I probably shouldn't have included her work simply because she's a hot button author. Aesop is probably the better example, or at least a less controversial one.
I'm merely noting that all of these fall into the same category of entertainment that's intended to teach some moral or societal message. We can agree, or disagree, with their messages but none of them describe events that actually happened.
Part of the problem is that when people agree or disagree with the message too much they loose sight of the fact that it's all fiction.
I agree it wasn't biographical. But in interviews she said it most closely matched her experience growing up.
BYODB - Agreed, the problem is with the viewers. "The Problem With Truthiness" is the laziness that follows it. After reading Heinlein, I became curious and started reading more seriously. How many people who hear Colbert or Minhaj then read any serious expositions about the "feelings" they got? But this is true of citizenship in general. The problem exists at two levels: power-loving officials will always have more time, authority and resources to grab power from The People who are busy living their own lives and just want to be left alone; and The People are busy living their own lives, having no particular skills or inclination towards research on how to vote and keep their freedom from being appropriated by officials.
I think it’s delicious that The New Yorker – itself a veritable bastion of truthiness – decided to call out a more successful competitor in the truthiness arena. Perhaps it was BECAUSE Minhaj’s truthiness agenda was so obviously truthi (rhymes with Houthi? gotta check!) and easily debunked that Malone felt that he must be expelled from the Ministry of Truthiness to avoid embarrassment to the High Priests of Serious Truthiness at the New York Times and the Washington Post. After all, we can’t have the masses wondering about the truth propagated by the Ministry of Truth after wondering about the truth of Minhaj’s “comedy,” now can we? Because that would represent and existential threat to Our Democracy (TM). Maybe if Minhaj excoriates himself publicly in a televised session of self-criticism (maybe staged in a World War II Japanese-American detention camp?) he will be readmitted to the cabal. Until then social democrat news entertainment elite can make some hay by claiming that they "fact check" their own in order to remain pure.
Speaking of truthiness, how's that inevitable victory in Ukraine going?
There's a pretty significant thread on X, which I won't link, which claims it's way worse than we thought. I don't buy 1 Million dead Ukrainians, but I would believe half of that.
Sorry, I must have missed the trash you are referring to. The invasion of Ukraine by Russia represents a war. Although the destruction of war is usually disastrous, Ukraine is doing much better than most experts would have predicted at the start. So far the only good thing to come out of the tragedy has been taking down the mythical and highly feared Russian military power. It turns out they were a paper tiger that whole time and we may now suspect that our own military industrial complex was responsible for using fear of a not-so-dangerous foe to line their own pockets and promote their own careers.
They're doing so well they continuously ask for a bailout (and always receive one).
That isn't proof of resilience, it's proof of money.
Russia and the world expected to have a new regime installed within a week, before any outside supplies arrived. That delay is entirely on (1) Russian incompetence, and (2) Ukraine competence.
Stretching it out to two years adds that (3) outside supplies, but that was not a factor in the first week.
Why would they want regime change?
It's painfully obvious that they don't want all of Ukraine.
They intervened for regime change same reason the US intervened for regime change, and all outsiders intervene for regime change. This has been going on since time immemorial.
Have you forgotten the war started in the north aiming for Kiev?
My take on it is that russia never intended to take the entire country. They always wanted the protection around Crimea and a route to the sea. The drive for keiv was nothing more to set up a means of negotiation after they took the parts they wanted. This was seen by the troop and equipment level sent towards keiv. They never employed their best assets. It was a means to drive Ukraine to the table to give up the parts already taken. Then Joe and Nato stepped in and demanded Big Z keep fighting to hide their money laundering in the area. At one point it sounded like the negotiation was nearly finalized.
Pretty much what I understood, with the threat of regime change if necessary.
That's certainly a possibility, but there are several factors that suggest otherwise. The sixty mile military column bogged down in the first few weeks may not have represented their best effort but it was certainly an embarrassing loss of materiel for them if it was just a feint. Also action since then suggests that the crap they threw into the invasion initially WAS the best they had. It's true that armies always seem to be fighting the last war with each new war and that Stingers and LAWs had evolved significantly since the last big land wars favoring the defenders against tanks and fighter jets.
The US and EU did their best to build the largest and well equiped army in Europe in Ukraine and then spent $200B or more since the war started and in the end like anyone common sense would know..a nation 8X greater in population and with an industrial base and solid currency would win.
There was no reason the US and the idiot liberal art major cultural marxists running Europe made Ukraine the hill to die on for I'm still not sure why. Russian tanks are not crossing the Oder. Why the obsession with a corrupt country which never was even a nation state until the USSR broke up? I can only surmise it was for the US neocon/neolib crowd the final victory for Trotsky over Stalin and of course the Czar as well as pushing their cultural agenda of attacking traditional norms..it seems it always goes back to Trotsky with these folks. They want to rule the world don't they..digtal currency, keynsian economics, killing the family unit, sexually mutilating kids.....these elites are sick..very sick...
It's on the principle that the best time to stop an aggressive expansionist dictatorship is before it grows. If France and England had fought Hitler in the Rhineland, it would have been a police action, less than a war. If they'd fought him in Czechoslovakia, it would have been much more difficult, but not a world war. By the time he split Poland with Stalin, a world war was inevitable.
It's smart to use the Ukrainians to oppose Putin's expansionism. Russian numbers may win in the end, but Ukraine has deeply bled the Russian military and held out long enough to expose hue weaknesses in the Russian system.
If Russia has any good generals in powerful positions, they must be thinking about a regime change in their own country - and if Putin has purged every general that could think that way and act on it, he has done a more thorough job of decapitating his military forces than Stalin did before WWII.
Eventually Putin will run out of patience and finish off Ukraine with weapons of mass destruction. The final outcome of the war is not in doubt.
Never was.
The doubt comes in if Putin dies, whether naturally or by coup. The problem with strong men like Putin is they don't like strong flunkies, so his death will leave a vacuum and the ensuing scramble will weaken the invasion forces, possibly enough for Ukraine to take back a lot of territory. Whether NATO will assist or block that is another unknown.
I would think that would precipitate an annihilation of Ukraine with WMDs, not prevent it.
The lying peice crap that is minhaj should not be listened to. He fucking lied got caught and said ohh it's my felt experience even if it didn't happen.
Minhaj is an accidental hero in my book. He successfully (if unintentionally) made truthiness a laughing stock, and not in a good way for the “my truth” narrative gang. Academia and the social democrat news entertainment propaganda organs have been substituting lived experience for facts, logic and testable theories for several generations now to justify government programs. “I feel that we must do something to help the poor and marginalized survive and become successful (even if the poor and marginalized do not survive or become successful as an actual result)” is finally becoming untenable – and Minhaj started the unraveling!
He just needs to come out for BDS and be pro Palestinians and he will be gone...he can trash say Italian or Irish Americans all he wants but the left allows that crap..
Lying is now completely acceptable. Our president and his entire administration lie to us every day and nobody gives a shit.
Attention typical Americans: truthiness was not invented by Colbert, or any other Gen X, Y, or Z hero. Truthiness probably predates Homo sapiens. And, like poverty, it is the default human condition.
We have to make significant efforts to learn about actual truth, and to be able to recognize and share it. And to do that consistently, we need extraordinary effort, verging on the impossible.
Some of us would like to think we are still in an era and culture where many people and institutions at least aspired for actual truth. But both human nature, and the mercenary agenda of too many organizations, including most governments, make that harder and harder.
Truth, but the good news is that "specialization" can solve the "effort" problem just as it has done for countless other aspects of increasingly complex society. Whether intentionally or not, Malone is a specialist in investigative reporting who "fact checked" Minhaj's lies. Tribalism and fear are the default conditions of humanity, but specialization has allowed villages to evolve into towns, towns into cities, home crafts to evolve into mass production, local trade to evolve into global transport, and communications to evolve into newspapers and instant fact-checking worldwide via telephone, cable, radio and internet. Individuals still need to develop bullshit detectors, but they no longer have to rely on personal investigation and time consuming personal effort to separate truthiness from truth.
Two shocking points here - - -
One is that some people take television seriously instead as entertainment. The other is that leftists lie.
Next article: a shocking paper reveals that the sun might, according to unconfirmed and unverified reports, rise in the EAST tomorrow.
I don't know who this clown is and I don't care. But I'm calling bullshit on this whole claim that Indian immigrants are somehow oppressed because they're "brown". The fucking Irish suffered more. My wife is half (Catholic) Lebanese and she's browner than this whiney grifter. She hasn't figured out how to monetize her fucking skin color because it would be stupid and dishonest.
But yet "truthy".
Fatass Donnie has made lying the central plank of his campaign. Besides his well-documented 30,000 lies (Washington Post) he now insists that the 2020 campaign was stolen from him despite not having a shred of evidence to support his lie.
The lie that all his cultists repeat is that Donnie made us energy independent and Biden fumbled it away. Any informed person knows the US is more energy independent now that at any time during Donnie's miserable four years.
Hey buddy. Is this why you support the WSJ? Just like Soros the editor in chief is a globalist who supports mass censorship?
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/wsj-editor-chief-admits-davos-elites-we-no-longer-own-news
I lost all respect for the WJS in 2008..instead of actually being for free markets and not supporting the bailouts they went all in...and obviously their support for globalist wars. the paper has just gotten worse and worse.
Jefferson was right about NY Stockjobbers wasn't he?
Fatass Donnie has made lying the central plank of his campaign.
so your criticism is that he is like everyone else?
“Well documented 30,000 lies” is the funniest thing in this whole discussion
You are lying.
“..,.,Donnie’s miserable four years.”
Lol. Snowflake.
Da Meatball out:

Leaves the Con Man and the Filly.
With their old and unpopular incumbent, Democrats openly prefer to make the election about Trump and his legal issues: Democrats pine for Trump as GOP nominee.
Even 10 year olds playing recess games realize doing what your opponent wants you to do is a bad strategy.
Which means Trump supporters are stupider than children. 🙂
(For the record I still think DeSantis would have been the underdog against Biden unless Biden's health and / or the economy get noticeably worse.)
As I mentioned the other day, DeSantis was treated with complete kid gloves during his campaign, as the press were trying to not get shut out, and it seems to have actually hurt him because he wasn't getting into it with the journoscum on a daily basis.
GOP voters want to see their candidate smack these assholes on the regular, and that's difficult when they're walking on eggshells around you.
Actually, recent polls showed DeSantis beating Biden fairly easily:
https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/4409117-trump-desantis-haley-leading-biden-poll/
It doesn't matter if Trump loses..what matters is the further realization that the Bill of Rights is dead and Michael Malice might be right.
To paraphrase Sevo- stick your TDS up your ass Sandra. Your head needs company.
Note the Bizarro World in which Trump cultists live.
Those of us who apply universal principles we’ve understood since childhood – “it’s dumb to do what your opponent wants you to do,” “it’s *really* dumb to double down on a losing strategy,” etc. – must be suffering from some sort of deranged thought process.
Meanwhile Trump supporters can only respond with screams of TDS! to ideas they would have considered uncontroversial 10 years ago. Such as “when voters are concerned about the incumbent President’s advanced age, it’s a bad idea to run a candidate who is nearly as old.”
“..,, it’s dumb to do what your opponents want you to do.”
What if your opponents are really fucking dumb?
Of course it’s a trap. It’s also the only real option.
turd, the ass-clown of the commentariat, lies; it’s all he ever does. turd is a kiddie diddler, and a pathological liar, entirely too stupid to remember which lies he posted even minutes ago, and also too stupid to understand we all know he’s a liar.
If anything he posts isn’t a lie, it’s totally accidental.
turd lies; it’s what he does. turd is a lying pile of lefty shit.

Disease X: What to know about the hypothetical pandemic world leaders hope to prevent
Disease X doesn't exist, at least not yet. That's why health officials are taking the steps to ensure the world is prepared for an unknown deadly virus that could trigger another pandemic.
This one will be named Mailinballotatois.
That is why they need funding from the WHO, to build it.
More accurately they're taking steps to ensure that a fictional disease X actually happens.
Brilliant. Peter at his best.
Definitely.
Breaking: Chicago mayor hospitalized for panic attacks.
Given the crime rate there (recently a "nice young man who was on the good path" was released from prison after beating cop and multiple felonies stomped on a woman's head on the train in Chicago..) the mayor should have a panic attack. Hell should be forced to ride public transport w/o his security detail..
Here was what my longtime Usenet ally, Christopher Charles Morton, wrote about Chicago.
https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/chicago-three-big-reasons-why-murder-city-usa-is-so-unsafe/#comment-2836333
I’ll give you three reasons, having lived there until I joined the Army:
1. The city “government” is as corrupt as any you’ll find in the third world. Members of the city council are in bed with the major gangs.
2. The police department is as corrupt as the “government”, considering itself wholly outside the law. Until relatively recently, there was a home invasion, burglary and kidnapping ring operating INSIDE the most “elite” unit in the department.
3. The population obviously LIKES these things, since they’ve been voting for them since before my grandmother moved there from Nashville… BEFORE WWI.
Black Chicagoans elected and reelected Richard M. Daley for something like twenty+ years, DESPITE the fact that he profited politically from an organized torture ring operating INSIDE the Chicago PD. Most of the known victims of said ring were NOT Norwegian…
Chicago is what it is because the Chicagoans WANT it that way. Sucks to be them.
"Broadly speaking, the argument was that the Republican Party and the American right consistently ignored fact-based rigor when such rigor would prove inconvenient. "
Broadly speaking, this has proven to be projection by the Left.
>Hasan Minhaj’s stand-up tests the boundaries of fact and fiction.
You mean 'he defames real people in his life because he's a cunt and it makes him money'?
Is that what you mean by 'truthiness'? Outright lies that aren't, you know, even close to reality.
Motherfucker experienced basically *no problems* growing up - but then shat on the reputation of people he grew up with for his own selfish gain. He's the worst sort of liar. Fuck him, don't defend his ass, Reason.
>One might argue that comedy specials do not have a journalistic responsibility to hew to the truth. Minhaj has indicated that he draws a line between his stand-up work and his more journalistic output on Patriot Act.
They have a responsibility to not make up shit about your neighbors that will sic an internet mob on them.
Larry "The Cable Guy" makes up nearly 100% of his routine, and no one feels cheated/lied to when that find out his stories aren't true.
Minaj (sp?) makes up the majority of his routine, but makes efforts to convince his audience his stories are true.
The issue isn't the fiction in the routine, it's the attempt to convince your audience that they are true (when they aren't)
>Minhaj's work on Patriot Act was what made him a potential successor to Stewart and Noah on The Daily Show.
Actually able to be funny is what made him a successor to Noah;)
>In his defense video, he says he "made artistic choices to express myself and drive home larger issues affecting me and my community."
Libertarians always deny the existence of 'market failure' but here's a clear example - there just wasn't enough prejudice in Minaj's life so he had to go and make some up himself!
A few things come to mind:
1) When Jon Stewart visited Rachel Maddow's show on MSNBC years ago, she was giddy when she said "we intentionally try to emulate what you did on The Daily Show." Jon stared straight in her eyes, and without missing a beat, said "You gotta stop doing that." Rachel looked like someone pee'd in her Cheerios.
2) I don't believe a single thing that comes out of Larry "The Cable Guy", but he doesn't try to convince me he's telling the truth, he doesn't say, in a serious voice, "this really happened to me..." - Larry just cracks jokes.
3) This fellow, Hasan Minaj (sp?), tells these "stories" as if they were real, and he thinks his fiction can spur change in society.
4) Minaj (sp?) reminds me of the folks on the "alphabet spectrum" that commit hate-crimes against themselves to draw attention to all the hate-crimes in society. Rather than highlight actual hate crimes against their community, they commit hoax attacks and post the victim.
Sometimes someone has to show the reality but if that's something that triggers or hurts someone, then it's not right to speak up in front of the people who can't handle the truth.
So a comedian tells story about his wife on stage, and you laugh, but do you believe it?
To compare that to right wing parrots pushing fake stories as truth is bizarre.
One usually assumes that story about his wife has some element of truth, but a true story?
Did Bill Cosby really feed his kids chocolate cake for breakfast?
Who cares?
