Private Jets to the Climate Conference
Plus: Chinese migrants, socialized medicine kills, NYC can't handle preteen bullies, and more...

Get out the private jets, it's climate conference time! Britain's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Foreign Secretary David Cameron, and King Charles III each took their own private jets—as did many other hypocrites world leaders—to attend the Cop28 climate conference in Dubai, where it is apparently an "open secret," per Politico, that "the top temperature goal is mostly gone."
"This government's approach to tackling climate change, as we have set out repeatedly, is not about banning or reducing people from flying," said a Sunak spokesman. "It is through investing in new technologies of the future, as evidenced by the flight just yesterday using sustainable aviation fuel."
Innovation is well and good, but the whole world-leaders-coming-in-on-private-planes thing looks a bit bad when the topic at hand is reversing climate change—and when the news is so dismal. "A short trip on a private jet will produce more carbon than the average person emits all year," noted one Green Party critic.
Methane agreement scorned: That's not the only bit of controversy that's come from this year's Cop28 summit. NBC reports that roughly "50 oil and gas companies worldwide have pledged to shore up leaky methane systems by 2030," which "could rapidly reduce emissions of the potent gas and forestall some climate change effects." Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the conference's president and the one who announced this agreement, is the United Arab Emirates' climate envoy and the CEO of ADNOC, an oil and gas company.
"Every piece of equipment, every component, can leak methane along the supply chain," scientist Arvind Ravikumar explained to NBC. He said roughly 10 percent of leaks in the supply chain create more than 50 percent of total methane emissions.
By asking oil and gas companies to fix something that's in their self-interest to fix anyway, the conference attracted criticism from climate activists. "Methane emissions and gas flaring are symptoms of a more than century-long legacy of wasteful, destructive practices that are routine in the oil and gas industry as it pursues massive profits without regard for the consequences," they wrote in response. "The only safe and effective way to 'clean up' fossil fuel pollution is to phase out fossil fuels."
Kamala Harris promises to throw money at the problem: Our own vice president just pledged $3 billion of U.S. taxpayers' hard-earned money to the Green Climate Fund. But Congress still has to approve this, and given the spending battles that have led to looming government shutdowns and an ousted speaker, it's unclear whether this money is Harris' to spend.
Middle East update: Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen fired at several commercial ships over the weekend, prompting a U.S. Navy destroyer to shoot down three drones, including one that was headed for the U.S.S. Carney warship. "The strikes marked an escalation in a series of maritime attacks in the Mideast linked to the Israel-Hamas war, as multiple vessels found themselves in the crosshairs of a single Houthi assault for the first time in the conflict," reports the Associated Press.
"A Houthi military spokesman, Yahya Sarea, said in a statement on Sunday that the militia had targeted two Israeli ships in the area of the Bab al-Mandeb strait off southern Yemen, but did not mention the American naval vessel," per The New York Times. The Houthi militants have said they will keep firing at Israeli ships in the Red and Arabian Seas until the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip is stopped.
Meanwhile in Gaza, the ceasefire has expired and Israel seems to be eyeing an expansion of its military campaign into the south. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) called for mass evacuations from Khan Younis, warning civilians that it is likely to strike there. With an estimated three-quarters of the population of the Gaza Strip displaced, it's unclear where evacuees ought to take refuge.

QUICK HITS
- DO YOU LOVE ROUNDUP? Then possibly consider donating to Reason's Webathon (and writing my name in that sweet, sweet comment section so my superiors know not to fire me next time I say something too spicy). Who knows, maybe you can win a trip to the shooting range with me next year if enough interest is expressed! (Just kidding, New York City doesn't have those, because the city pols hate fun and freedom.)
- Today, the Supreme Court "will weigh whether members of the Sackler family, who owned the company, should be shielded from current and future lawsuits connected with Purdue in exchange for paying about $5.5 billion to address the addiction crisis," reports Axios.
- "A growing number of Chinese have entered the United States this year through the Darién Gap, exceeded only by Venezuelans, Ecuadoreans and Haitians," The New York Times reports.
- Former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor died on Friday.
- "Buy now, pay later" schemes receive heightened scrutiny.
- Deranged behavior—and vandalism—outside a Jewish-owned restaurant in Philadelphia.
- Socialized medicine kills: "Canadian woman is diagnosed with cancer, told she has 2 years to live at most, that she is not a candidate for surgery but would she like medical help committing suicide? She declines, comes to the United States, spends a lot of money, and is treated within weeks," writes Alex Tabarrok at Marginal Revolution.

Private Jets to the Climate Conference

I'm making $90 an hour working from home. I never imagined that it was honest to goodness yet my closest companion is earning 16,000 US dollars a month by working on the connection, that was truly astounding for me, she prescribed for me to attempt it simply. Everybody must try this job now by just using this website... http://www.Payathome9.com
"Britain's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Foreign Secretary David Cameron, and King Charles III each took their own private jets—as did many other
hypocritesworld leaders"Beautiful.
Saved us the trouble of fixing it. Bravo, Liz.
She’s one of us.
She has no superiors at Reason.
The good Liz may have bosses at Reason, but no superiors.
I call her Our Liz, as opposed to Good Liz, though she is a good egg.
The term "Good Liz" reminds me of Mother's Lament calling RabbiHarveyWeinstein "Good Rabbi". RHW probably isn't even Jewish, but just a damn troll.
How dare you doubt his affiliations! You should see his mohel work.
That's more the territory of the sickos on this forum.
I'm no fan of non-medical cutting up on little kids, whether it's the OG kind of RHW and Paleolithic predecessors, or the modern form. Soap and potable water kinda nipped any excuse for it in the bud.
When did Sunak learn to fly?
Why didn't Bezos take his three master and sail to Dubai?
In a civilized world— think Onassis in Camelot days, the Green thalassocrats with serious yachts would have collected the rest en route, and partied their way through Suez to the Gulf.
What, they couldn't share? They were coming from the same fucking island!
The favorite game of these climate assholes is heads I win tails you loose
But, they are using sustainable jet fuel!
In a rational world, the only consideration would be whether it sustained them in the air.
🙂
😉
I Am Earning $81,100 so Far this year working online and I am a full time college student and just working for 3 to 4 hours a day I've made such great money.I am Genuinely thankful to and my administrator, It's' really user friendly and I'm just so happy that I found out about this...
I Worked Here ==> > http://Www.Smartcareer1.com
Soooo....Can you afford jet fuel?
🙂
😉
The sustainable fuel is a lie.
It’s all a lie.
And that's a core part of the game. And the fun the assholes get from it.
That may fuel a debate.
It may jettison that argument, or it may propel it further. Who knows? It's up in the air for the time being.
Could leaved them gassed where they may just wing it.
Or it could suck all the Oxygen out of the room.
🙂
😉
Sure it didn't set us up the bomb?
They're definitely "all your base are belong to us" personified.
What do you loosen?
The wing bolts?
Best part was ManBearPig himself limping out about having the conference in the UAE and how hypocritical it was. Well, then don't go to the fucking conference, Al, you pompous windbag.
He does have a point there.
"The favorite game of these climate assholes is heads I win tails you loose."
Loose tails in jails, as they say...
Fuck Joe Biden
Fuck Joe Biden
Please go, Joe.
It's OK to say "Fuck" in the comments, especially regarding Biden.
🙂
😉
Exactly. Fuck Joe Biden.
And it's ok to say "Please go".
So: Fuck Joe Biden! Please go!
Or, Please go Fuck Joe Biden!
🙂
😉
Yeah, yeah, that's the ticket!
Just don't say "Please go fuck, Joe Biden", as that would surely put some little children in danger.
Proper use of commas saves lives and kids.
Not sure about commas, but wouldn’t be surprised if Brandon likes to insert colons.
Ooooof! That was rough!
Our own vice president just pledged $3 billion of U.S. taxpayers' hard-earned money to the Green Climate Fund.
That's gonna be one helluva kickback.
She made the pledge, she can pay it.
So how many blow jobs is that?
🙂
😉
Heels Up would be verrrry busy....
"Heels Up" could be a variety of positions with myriad devices when you think about it.
🙂
😉
I really don't want to think about that...
Just replace Krunkt Kackling Kammie with your favorite paramour and it'll go down better
🙂
😉
Depends. There must be some rich guys who would pay millions for a BJ from Cackles, provided they get a photo they can share online.
Elon?
If Musk were embroiled in a scandal over a picture of his erect cock in the VP’s mouth, it should be called Elongate.
Nice
When he pumped and dumped her, she'd be called his Space Ex.
🙂
😉
After, would her breath be Musky?
Remember, even at $1M per suckfest, she's down for 3000 of them. Are there takers for that?
That would be less the expense of a mouth catheter.
🙂
😉
The 300B to pay off kickbacks to favored green companies in the IRA wasn't good enough apparently.
Biden (D) is after more green indeed.
And if they cut our CO2 emissions by 50%, and China's stay at their current levels, and India and Indonesia continue to increase, what good does that do? China currently emits more than the next 5 largest combined, and it's going up. India is just behind the US at #3 and on the rise.
https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/annual-co2-emissions-per-country
China emits more CO2 than the US, the whole EU27, and India, and then some.

If this was Antifa and the business was owned by a right-wing honky, these accounts would be cheering on the demonstrators as heroes.

I'm sure that business owner complied with all masking recommendations and required all his customers mask up in order to be served back in 2020-2021.
And you'd be cheering the mob either way if the business owner wasn't "Based" in your brand of bullshit.
A 7th grade girl, bullied and beaten on video at NYC’s Mark Twain gifted and talented middle school, is now escorted by a staffer acting as a bodyguard during school, and her parents pick her up every day to accompany her out of the building. The DOE offered the victim a “safety transfer,” while the attacker, briefly suspended, can stay.
The attacker must be a protected class.
Edit - Yep, my assumption was correct.
The school administration is gifted at DEI.
More like gifted at fucktardery.
Culturally related:
$500 fine for burning down a Wendy’s for BLM, and 17 years in prison for knocking over a fence on Jan 6.
The establishment is waging war on the working class and using the lumpenproles to do it.
“Fulton District Attorney Fani Willis: “I think this indictment is particularly important. It sends a message that we are a community that supports protesting. We certainly know it’s one of your constitutional rights but what we do not tolerate is violent protest. It is unacceptable to burn down a building in our community even in the name of a protest.”" BWAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!
"I dare you to call me a liar!"
Fucking insane. Even those BLM rioters that killed people got less time than the J6 PB guys did for killing the fence.
Because it's fascism.
Not namby-pamby you-said-something-I-disagree-with-so-now-you're-Hitler, but real, actual fascism straight out of 1930's Europe.
I don't call Jeff and his ilk "Nazis" for no reason.
Wendy’s? I thought Burger King were the ones that flame broiled their meat.
It happened because Wendy's burgers were considered "square."
🙂
😉
Assuming the crimes are comparable (which you obviously agree, or you wouldn't have compared them), I have no problem with the Wendy's arsonists getting 17 years in prison. Have a nice day.
Obviously this is not about you. It's about the double standard applied by prosecutors to different optics. And no - knocking down a fence during a protest is not even remotely comparable to totally destroying a $1.6 million dollar building by arson (just in case you weren't just being snarky about the complaints here.)
"Assuming the crimes are comparable"
"Knocking over a fence = burning down a business"
Go fuck yourself.
Do you think they’re comparable?
Community note
The alleged attacker is not responsible for her actions due to systematic racism that has oppressed her, personally for the last 250 years.
Side note this exception does not count for the jews, or the Japanese, because they have never been subjected to racism eighter in the us or abroad.
Learn to intersectionalize.
I read that as Insurrectionalize at first
Learn that too. Better hurry.
The attacker must be a protected class.
Also, weird how with the rain of bullying perpetually falling on all* of the LGBTQ kids, it's only the beating of mentally challenged kids, the sexual assault of cis-girls in the girls' restrooms, the shooting of grade schoolers by an adult trannie, and the assault of a gifted and talented girl that you see on TikTok/YouTube/TV.
*Just conveniently forget about the long-running 'bullies as repressed, self-loathing LGBTQ persons' trope.
All the money and time spent on "anti-bullying" has paid off quite well.
I don't blame the dozens of people walking past for refusing to intervene. They had to maneuver their way around the little kid writhing on the ground as the other girl was punching her in the face, but they have to worry if they grab the aggressor, they're going to face actual charges.
I wonder why schools simply do not hire bouncers, who have the skill set to deal with assholery.
Argument # Gogol for ending compulsory attendance laws for everybody, as well as the notion that education should be considered "free" and a "right."
So what should be done to truancy officers?
Their position should go the way of comprachico child-stealers and slave straw-bosses, to the bad memory bin of history.
…not to fire me next time I say something too spicy
Reason is the bastion of free speech.
Shrike disagrees.
Free "inoffensive" speech or free "government-approved" speech?
Reason embraces both
At least in the comment section.
Oooh! Spicy! I like it when Liz talks spicy!
And New York spicy too! If she were from Minnesota, "mayonnaise" would be considered too spicy.
🙂
😉
The Houthi militants have said they will keep firing at Israeli ships in the Red and Arabian Seas until the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip is stopped.
Weapons from their own fight to spare on this, eh?
Guess who supplies them with weapons...
Amazing. Video evidence, and no mention of an arrest.
Oh, wait. New York.
(I suspect a baseball bat would be better than an escort)
A baseball bat.
GHow about a mace? (Not Mace as in pepper spray; mace as the medieval weapon)
The plant named Mace would be too hardcore for New Yorkers, let alone a big, spike-balled metal club.
🙂
😉
Who knows, maybe you can win a trip to the shooting range...
My back porch?
(Double entendre alert! You weirdos.)
Perhaps a euphemism for a Reason sponsored sex worker tour in New York. Only available to those well endowed donors.
With a name like "shooting range," they'd probably all be addicted to horse.
Hard drug pass. I want my sex workers clean and sober.
🙂
😉
Horse? You might be as old as me!
I am old enough to hear The Artist Formerly Known As Prince reference it in "Sign O' The Times."
An open house for back porches?
🙂

At least until they apply to Harvard.

Kathy Hochul is looking forward to helping Biden fill that vacancy.
"Buy now, pay later" schemes receive heightened scrutiny.
In congressional budget meetings?

Deranged behavior—and vandalism—outside a Jewish-owned restaurant in Philadelphia.
Why should the Jews get special treatment in Filthadepthsia?
Needs more rooftop Jews.
With LRAD devices to send this hoard into fits of ear-plugging nausea!
And if that didn't work, 12 Gauge small steel pellets to pick off as many in this mob of rabble as possible.
Shhhhh!...You'll summon Here Misek and Nardz, the Nazi Dynamic Duo.
(The only question I have is which one is the "trusted ward" of the other...or are they both "Wards of the State.")
🙂
😉
nobody here has ever refuted Misek. ever. ask him.
Misek was active in a thread earlier this morning. Jackass posted the same old antisemitic, Holocaust-denying shit as usual.
Ah, that explains the grey boxes I saw.
Boy, those shitheads in Philly are going to be super pissed now. Since Hamas violated the terms of the humanitarian pause, the IDF will now proceed to hunt down every Hamas member they can find, and kill them. Can't happen fast enough.

Barring political revolution within the next two decades, Western Civilization will have died within a century of the end of World War II. Not "changed," but dead and gone. Long past time to rethink the assumptions of the postwar age, starting with the idea anything was saved.
Two decades? Shit, I think he's being generous. Like I said a few days ago, western society as a whole probably needs to break up for its own long-term good.
You and Misek are proof that Grandpa missed a few Nazis and the escapees managed to infest a couple generations with poison.

Mabus was truly one of the stupidest SECNAVs in the nation's history.
Could be worse, USS Harvey Milk.
Will that one be sunk by the SS Dan White?
Should have been a submarine because they go down a lot.
USS AOC aka Boaty McHorseface
I volunteer to ride stern.
You’re going a bit overboard.
That's what she is.
Never stick it in crazy.
Oh my.
...not a candidate for surgery but would she like medical help committing suicide? She declines, comes to the United States, spends a lot of money, and is treated within weeks...
There's only one solution. Trudeau is going to have to refuse to let the common Canuckistani into the US for treatment.
I watched a video interview with one of the MAID counselors. No surprises, she had previously worked as an abortion clinic and was a big supporter of infanticide and allowing MAID to be accessible to depressives.
She sounded like she was possessed tbqh. Completely obsessed with death. A female serial killer who doesn't wield the knife herself but "befriends" the vulnerable and encourages them to die.
Offering suicide as a treatment for depression seems like the most insane part of it all. A primary goal of treating depression is (or should be) preventing suicide. It's like making amputation the cure for a broken bone, but even dumber.
Assisted suicide doesn't even drive up the violent gun deaths metric. What are democrats thinking.
Margaret Sanger approves (despite the white-washing by the modern Planned Parenthood types).
Poirot killed a guy over that, if memory serves. Right before he died, because Agatha Christie didn't want repercussions for her characters I suppose.
Little grey clumps of cells.
Kevorkian with a cooter?
With much inspiration here in These United States.
"A 7th grade girl, bullied and beaten on video at NYC's Mark Twain gifted and talented middle school"
Not knowing the races at all, and the complete silence from the media, I can only assume the victim is white and the attacker black.
Because if it were reversed, I would imagine we would be having George Floyd esque riots and wall to wall coverage
Trust your feelz, Mikey.
A culture war is no place for rationality.
Don’t trust your eyes and ears, chinny.
A culture war is no place for observable reality.
You are wrong, the attacker is a social victim, the the victim is a historical oppressor
Then all is good, and the attacker will be invited to sit in the gallery at the next State of the Union speech.

But you have to admire their ability to translate every weather event into the catastrophic narrative, and how their propaganda has convinced so many people.
Not to mention how we're constantly scolded that the weather is not the climate, unless of course the weather somehow supports their argument of the day.
Nevermind that if we knew so much about the climate, the weather forecast would never be wrong. How's that working out?
I have been aware for over twenty-five years how these people keep contradicting themselves.
That is a core function of the progressive left.
Yeah, the climate Karens are full of shit, but I’m not sure that the old “weather forecasting” trope still holds up.
If my phone says “light rain starts in 29 minutes” by gosh, light rain will start in 29 minutes.
Try living in Colorado and see how that works out. Fact is, they constantly update those figures because it turns out weather is not all that predictable out in advance.
If they were right regarding the climate their predictions would be accurate several years in advance.

Because there is certain element in the population and especially in the political class who are really unconfortable with people having guns and will not stop pressing the issue.

Choose wisely, Z Crazy, as my words can apply to a hell of a lot of technology we use.

2. That every vertical surface at the gas station already has stickers indicating that, by law, you have to turn off your car, stay at the pump, and can't use your cell phone. Which pretty much guarantees that someone is standing by the car, with the keys, waiting to get carjacked.
Well, it would probably be easier to car-jack if the engine was already running...
“I noticed 2-3 security guards with large revolvers walking all around the cars pumping gas and in line,” a woman wrote on Nextdoor.
I'm calling bullshit. Nobody carries revolvers anymore.
There are only two types of firearms: revolvers and assault weapons.
“The Chicago Police Department recommends—no matter what gas station you stop at—to turn off your vehicle, remove your keys and keep them on your person, and lock your vehicle,”
If carjacking is such a high reality, that's not the advice I'm following.
Since we're playing fast and loose: California, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Oregon have pledged to carjack *all* new cars at gas stations after 2035.
I didn’t agree to that.

This is literally what Kristallnacht was, but we can't call it that this time around because the Brownshirts are a Democratic Party constituency.
Meanwhile, yesterday, Lying Jeffy was telling us that the real antisemitism isn't DNC Brownshirts in the streets doing violence like this. It's a guy who fundraises for the GOP hosting a impolitic Youtuber at a dinner party.
And that is why we need AR-15s.

Yup. The Left went, in amazingly short order, from "punch a Nazi" to "I am a Nazi", it makes one's head spin.
As has been pointed out, these are worse than Charlottesville and the press and Dems (I repeat myself, I know) are perfectly OK with this.
The left said it is ok and good to punch Nazis. It's not my fault the left actually happen to be Nazis.

Australia is the poster child for death of a free western society. And that poster is a chilling warning for some of us, and a glorious celebration for others.
Next in the poster series: Canada?
Already there but on a different track.
The US however needs to be aware that all these insane ideas that are now being forced on Canada, New Zealand, and Australia were birthed and incubated on the American left coast.
Also, remember that Canada is the experimental sandbox for every single globo-homo plan for the US. If they're testing it in Canada, you know that they have plans to run it in the US.
We need these laws.

"Even the once famously freedom-loving nation of Australia"
That ship sailed either when the gun ban happened or, more recently, with the covid camps.
One had to precede the other.
Australia banned guns because of that gang shootout in Port MacArthur that killed a lot of people. Banning guns lets them deal with the crook and the mugger and the carjacker and the gang member!
None of whom pay attention to nor follow any rule, regulation, or law. When guns are outlawed, only outlaws have guns. The typical citizenry becomes sheep ready for fleecing and slaughter.
If they don't " pay attention to nor follow any rule, regulation, or law.", they can be punished. That's not too hard to understand.
Are they? Kim Foxx (Cook County States Attorney) sure as hell doesn't punish them.
No need to disarm others to punish criminals. It's not one or the other, dipshit.
While disarming those who do not mug, carjack, in gangs, etc.
I think you're confusing the Port Arthur Massacre with the previous Milperra Massacre.
"Even the once famously freedom-loving nation of Australia"
When, exactly, was this?
Australia is a nation founded by convicts who missed the walls.
John Kerry told climate conference folks that coal-burning energy plants should "no longer be permitted." Even if he only meant new plants, he didn't tell us how he planned to stop these nations (e.g. China) that continue to build such plants. Then again, Kerry is a politician so it is expected he blather away about pointing out problems without giving any solutions.
Give the man a break. Innate dictator tendencies are hard to overcome.
Unsuccessful Democrats that run for President and get trounced have a ready made job doing dirty work for the climate change crowd. At least two, Kerry and Gore, are all-in on the grift.
Have you seen the animatrix. Why can't we just make the sky opaque like the humans did?
I'm sure this is a joke, but that's actually my biggest fear out of all this insanity. It may, and in some cases already has, caused governments and even individuals to try and geoengineer more cooling which is a far more deadly concern than warming.
What they fear might happen on accident they could very well cause intentionally.
Part of the plot line in some sci-fi novels I've read, e.g., Fallen Angels by Larry Niven.
I believe it's also the premise of the Snowpiercer movie and series. The world governments and scientists devise a way to put some chemical into the atmosphere in order to cool temperatures a few degrees. They miscalculated and almost everyone on Earth dies (except for those riding in the absurd "Snowpiercer") when the global temperature drops something like 100 degrees.
What is the carbon footprint of nuking Communist China to stop their coal generation?

Elites spewing CO2 to protest CO2? Meh.
A core goal for elite status is the opportunity to demonstrate that exalted status to the commoners, if not actually taunt them. It could be climate, it could be exempt status during a pandemic, it could be subversion of the democratic process or free society. It really does not matter what the issue is, and most of the elites don't really understand the substance anyway.
'By asking oil and gas companies to fix something that's in their self-interest to fix anyway, the conference attracted criticism from climate activists. "Methane emissions and gas flaring are symptoms of a more than century-long legacy of wasteful, destructive practices that are routine in the oil and gas industry as it pursues massive profits without regard for the consequences," they wrote in response. "The only safe and effective way to 'clean up' fossil fuel pollution is to phase out fossil fuels."'
A few observations:
1. Compliance with new methane rules will be easiest for corporate and national oil companies, and will force closure on smaller companies. Where have we seen that before?
2. The last statement is the most important. Making rules impossible to operate under is more "democratic" than simple bans, right?
3. You know who else seeks massive (political) profits without regard for consequences?
"The Houthi militants have said they will keep firing at Israeli ships in the Red and Arabian Seas until the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip is stopped."

"Every piece of equipment, every component, can leak methane along the supply chain," scientist Arvind Ravikumar explained to NBC. He said roughly 10 percent of leaks in the supply chain create more than 50 percent of total methane emissions.
100% correct, 90% of the time.

"Today, the Supreme Court "will weigh whether members of the Sackler family, who owned the company, should be shielded from current and future lawsuits connected with Purdue in exchange for paying about $5.5 billion to address the addiction crisis," reports Axios."
This seems to be a rather larger question than this case, as it appears to open up personal assets of owners of business (presumably corporate ownership form) for culpability for the company's actions, without having to prove the owner's were personally involved in the company's liable decision making. The express purpose of the ruling sought is to extract revenge and destroy the wealth of the family which owned the company. Such a precedent might leave open the personal assets of anyone who owns a share of stock in a company if the company found guilty of wrongdoing.
Agreed. Also the tired age-old question: "How else can we soak the rich?"

Fergie has publicized that he’s given hundreds of thousands of dollars to groups including the Middle East Children’s Alliance, to the anti-Zionist writer Philip Weiss, and to Samidoun, which Israel designated a terrorist organization and which Germany recently banned. (Samidoun has ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a Marxist-Leninist group designated as a terrorist organization by the United States, Japan, Canada, and the European Union.)
Last I checked, funding terrorist organizations abroad is illegal in the United States. That means that the blathering of this particular DA is just that, blathering. They will do nothing about it.
"When asked by a reporter at The Berkshire Edge if he supported Hamas, Fergie answered in the affirmative: “Yes,” and added, "Hamas is an indigenous anti-colonial resistance group.” How about the specific events on October 7, where 1,200 people were murdered, women raped, and others burned alive? “The Al-Aqsa Flood was a powerful statement of resistance to genocide,” he said."
I can't even...
Yeah, only one side supports genocide and it sure as shit isn't the Israeli's.
Change “Palestinians” to “Deutsche Volk”, and there not one hairsbreadth separating this guy’s rhetoric from a Nazi.
“Jah,” and added, “NSDAP is an indigenous anti-colonial resistance group.” How about the specific events on November 9–10, where 1,200 people were murdered, women raped, and others burned alive? “Kristallnacht was a powerful statement of resistance to Aryan genocide,” he said.”
There's not much separating Fergie Chambers from Rob Misek.

Socialized medicine kills: "Canadian woman is diagnosed with cancer, told she has 2 years to live at most, that she is not a candidate for surgery but would she like medical help committing suicide? She declines, comes to the United States, spends a lot of money, and is treated within weeks," writes Alex Tabarrok at Marginal Revolution.
FYI, this was something that was considered totes libertarian, forward thinking and progressive, and I was ALWAYS deeply uncomfortable with it, and we're finally seeing the reasons why.
Here's Reason on this in 2015:
Doctor-Assisted Suicide May Soon Be Legal in California
That's a win for personal freedom.
For those of us who were uncomfortable with this, it was difficult to argue at the time, because the negative outcomes were mostly theoretical-- that the state would start pushing people into assisted suicide, but now we're seeing this shit roll out in real time.
it's just like the open borders argument, the green argument... we will something into political reality when we believe that it increases personal freedom, but right alongside it, we allow or ignore the concomitant increase in state power that came with it, and then are supposed to be happy that my taxes are skyrocketing to help pay for welfare programs that cover the global population, that I'm free to purchase low-cost, cheaply made solar panels mandated for my house-- or a an inexpensive, imported electric stove that I have to purchase by law, or am elated that I have the right to the one course of cost-saving treatment my government healthcare system is offering me: Suicide.
>>imported electric stove that I have to purchase by law ... cost-saving treatment my government healthcare system is offering me: Suicide.
ya and they make it even harder to kill yourself by banning the gas stoves.
Or firearms.
It is because the euthansia movement has been going hand in hand with the movement to socialize medicine. Once the government presumes it has interest in the costs of your health that can override your own choices, it is not a big step to the government promoting suicide.
When the UN and the WEF say the target population goal is 250 million people they absolutely mean it.
Mandates follow promotions.
>>Once the government presumes it has interest in the costs of your health that can override your own choices, it is not a big step to the government promoting suicide.
wait until the toasters can decide too.
What is wrong with encouraging sex offenders to kill themselves?
Like Supreme Court justices?
not particularly, no.
I remember people being called 'conspiracy nuts' when they speculated about 'death panels' in a socialized medicine system with legal assisted suicide.
Every single conspiracy theory...
I would no longer be surprised to learn that the earth is carried on the back of a giant turtle.
I thought it was Atlas. And it might be time for him to shrug.
But the problem here in this case is not the option for assisted suicide, it's the long wait time for cancer treatment created by the rationing associated with socialized medicine.
And let's just be real honest here. When the diagnosis is something as severe as this woman's cancer, if assisted suicide is a legal option, that is going to be brought up as one potential option no matter what type of health care financing system may exist.
Do you think we should wait until there is zero government involvement in health care until we start considering increasing personal freedoms in this area?
>>assisted suicide
no state should have the power to execute.
I agree. But in this case it is not the state. It is a doctor, by consent with the patient.
>>not the state. It is a doctor
doctor, thy license has been issued.
>>by consent with the patient
can't be given. patient can go kill itself if it wants out.
My understanding of how assisted suicide works is that a medical professional provides a lethal amount of drugs, but the patient still does the deed.
"But in this case it is not the state."
It's the state in Canada, in Belgium, in Holland, anywhere where they have legalized it. Why do you think it won't be the government in Soviet California?
WTF?
1. As noted, the biggest problem is government rationing healthcare.
2. Apparently her cancer wasn't that bad as she went next door and got care in a country that is not rationing healthcare.
3. No government should be in the business of executing citizens (be it assisted suicide or death penalty).
4. No government should be in the healthcare business.
Point 2 is mistaken. Non-emergency health care is indeed rationed out in this country based upon ability to pay. Doctors don't work for free you know. If Medicare or insurance won't pay, and you don't have enough money in the bank, you're fucked.
So similar to Canada in that regard.
Canada tends to ration by time instead of money. People die waiting in line. America tends to ration by money. You can get most anything done quickly if you can pay for it.
And which rationing is worse; which is better?
People in Canada die in line waiting for free health care. People in America die bankrupt after they run out of money to pay for health care. Which is worse?
My understanding is that in most of the world except here if you break a bone you'll get patched up free of charge. Do that here and that's five digits for sure, maybe six. Better have insurance or you're looking at bankruptcy.
On the other hand if you require a specialist you want to be in the US for sure. Otherwise you'll probably die in line, and that's only if the treatment is even available.
In either case, it’s best not to be poor
Or have the government involved.
Non-emergency health care is indeed rationed out in this country based upon ability to pay.
That's literally not the definition of rationing.
Things can be rationed by markets or by government. Markets ration by price. Government by politics. Know why you don't have a Lambo in the garage? Because they're rationed by price and you're not a rock star.
Uh, no. Markets allocate by price, which can also provide incentives to increase supply as well as for buyers to decide on their own spending priorities, and to perhaps increase their own income and budget. Rationing allocates by edict, does nothing for supply (except also by edict), and nothing for recipients to consider spending.
Well okay, so now let's apply this to health care in the US.
Where would one start given how much governments on all levels are involved in every aspect of healthcare and how this affects the supply, demand and price of all of it.
Indeed, let's. US medicine would be much better if delivered in more of a free market.
We should ask Jeff WHY Canada is rationing medicine.
Because it's socialized medicine and that is what happens with any socialist system. Duh. Your point?
When the diagnosis is something as severe as this woman’s cancer, if assisted suicide is a legal option, that is going to be brought up as one potential option no matter what type of health care financing system may exist.
Expensive, not severe. It always comes down to money. When there's a limited supply of something then it's going to be rationed out based upon ability to pay, politics, or something else. And no matter what there will always be someone whining about how unfair it is.
In her case, it was a cancer that was supposed to be treated with high doses of chemotherapy, and even then, only had a 50% chance of slowing it down. That is a pretty bad diagnosis.
Even if one doesn't think her case is severe enough, there is going to be some case that is, and in that case, if assisted suicide is legal, it's going to be brought up as a potential option, and we shouldn't get the vapors that it is.
if assisted suicide is legal, it’s going to be brought up as a potential option
That's true. Freaking out over the mere mentioning of it when it's available is silly. I think what people are freaking out about is the idea of it being the only medical option, or worse mandatory.
I think what people are freaking out about is the idea of it being the only medical option
Cake or death?
Umm, CAKE!
Well we're all out of cake!
What would the medical options have been if assisted suicide had not been legal? Would she suddenly have been a candidate for surgery? Is that the sneaky suspicion here - that the government lied to her and told her she was not a candidate for surgery, because they wanted her to choose the suicide option?
>>She ... comes to the United States ... and is treated within weeks
what is available in US can easily be available in Canada.
But suicide is being promoted by Canada at this point.
Last year, it was 4.1% of all deaths. The government wants to extend it to cover mental illnesses now.
Second biggest cause of death in Canada is people being euthanized. And they're extending it to the depressed, the mentally ill, the physically handicapped, the deaf, children who are any of those categories but are to young to consent, and worst of all... fucking being poor.
The slippery slope isn't a fallacy, it's been the rule in every single country where Nazi death merchants like Chemjeff have been given their druthers.
‘Disturbing': Experts troubled by Canada’s euthanasia laws
"Alan Nichols had a history of depression and other medical issues, but none were life-threatening. When the 61-year-old Canadian was hospitalized in June 2019 over fears he might be suicidal, he asked his brother to “bust him out” as soon as possible.
Within a month, Nichols submitted a request to be euthanized and he was killed, despite concerns raised by his family and a nurse practitioner.
His application for euthanasia listed only one health condition as the reason for his request to die: hearing loss."
Chemjeff knows about this. It's exactly what the fucking monster wants.
It's no coincidence that the same people being offed today are the one's that was sterilized yesterday even here in the United States, and for the same reasons.
If anything, they have become more evil since at least before they didn't kill you they just made sure you couldn't have children.
fuck off ML. let me guess, he called me a Nazi.
Because you are a Nazi.
You will have to be more specific when you say "promoting".
Informing people of their legal options is not the same as "promoting" any one of the options.
Yah, how aboot we leave it up to the patient to bring that up, eh?
Fuck, what a ghoul.
No, the problem here is the pushing of assisted suicide.
The long wait – caused by socialized medicine – is just an *excuse to justify* pushing for the patient to kill themselves.
Treatment could have been immediately available - but why spend state resources on this person?
To destroy you is no loss, to preserve you is no gain.
Especially if said person has said something not sufficiently supportive of those in power. Its the end -state of all collectivism.
Trust me, there will be a lot of agreeing to disagree, and then we'll spend it.
I beg to differ, but you're not wrong.
It is fortunate that the Vice Presidency has little actual constitutional authority in the US system of government.
It was more fun when the VP was the loser in the Presidential election.
The only thing that could have made the last few years even more entertaining would be the Trump-Clinton presidency followed by the Biden-Trump one.

Cop28 president says there is ‘no science’ behind demands for phase-out of fossil fuels
Exclusive: UAE’s Sultan Al Jaber says phase-out of coal, oil and gas would take world ‘back into caves’
The president of Cop28, Sultan Al Jaber, has claimed there is “no science” indicating that a phase-out of fossil fuels is needed to restrict global heating to 1.5C, the Guardian and the Centre for Climate Reporting can reveal.
Al Jaber also said a phase-out of fossil fuels would not allow sustainable development “unless you want to take the world back into caves”.
The comments were “incredibly concerning” and “verging on climate denial”, scientists said, and they were at odds with the position of the UN secretary general, António Guterres.
Al Jaber made the comments in ill-tempered responses to questions from Mary Robinson, the chair of the Elders group and a former UN special envoy for climate change, during a live online event on 21 November. As well as running Cop28 in Dubai, Al Jaber is also the chief executive of the United Arab Emirates’ state oil company, Adnoc, which many observers see as a serious conflict of interest.
"The comments were “incredibly concerning” and “verging on climate denial”, scientists said, and they were at odds with the position of the UN secretary general, António Guterres."
The in real life reaction when Emperors are told they wearing no clothes.
Yeah, gotta admit that's pretty much it. Obviously the guy has a massive conflict of interest there, but he's also not wrong.
He’s not following the “science “.
Get your priorities straight, we need to discuss whether it's OK for him to talk about people living in caves first.
But no conflict of interest from UN totalitarians who yearn for global rule?
Why would anyone care what the UN sec. general thinks? Or the sultan, for that matter (though he is probably correct).
"A short trip on a private jet will produce more carbon than the average person emits all year," noted one Green Party critic.
I'm not so sure about the math on this either. I mean, not everyone takes at least one flight per year, but the mean number of flights per average adult living in a developed, Western nation, is probably greater than one. And that's in addition to everything else an average person does in a year, including all the time they spend driving their vehicles.
On your typical commercial flight, your 'share' of the flight's emissions are something like 1 in 200 (domestic) to 1 in 400 (international). On a private jet, it might be 1 in 6.
Also, it wouldn't surprise me, especially in the case of talking about an exceptional sub-population, if the mean were ~1 but the median were 0.1. Almost like the use of the mean is or would be, intentional or not, a bit of statistical chicanery.
Seems exceedingly likely that for every jetsetter in Chicago or New York or rural Idaho or Appalachia taking 10 or more flights a year, there are at least 10, if not a hundred people who struggle to afford a car and don't leave town at all.
Look, in the environment justice future, most of us will never leave town.
What are these 'towns' of which you speak? Are we not going to be required to all live in Megacity One?
A few quotes from Harvard faculty, an institution that scored 0.00 on FIRE's free speech scale.
https://twitter.com/BillAckman/status/1731532031048245631
“Years ago, Harvard stopped being a place where all perspectives were welcome.”
“Harvard is a place where loud, hate-filled protests appear to be encouraged, but where faculty and students can’t share points of view that are inconsistent with the accepted narrative on campus.”
“Harvard became a place where if you toed the party line, there was applause. If you disagree, you are drowned out. The gatekeepers of speech continue to further narrow what they deem acceptable speech.”
“The primary problem with speech at Harvard is that if you say the wrong thing, you will be cancelled, which leads to self-censorship. The result is what you actually think is not what you say.”
“Saying anything that doesn’t highlight the importance of slavery and colonialism as animating forces of history is not acceptable speech. Lived experience and ideology become the dominant forces of conversation. All of the courses follow the same playbook ideology. Ideology poses as coursework.”
On Antisemitism, Support for Hamas, and the Protests Against Israel
When I asked members of the faculty about the causes behind the Israeli/Gaza protests and the tolerance for antisemitism on campus, they explained:
“Whiteness at Harvard is deemed fundamentally oppressive. Indigenous peoples are presented as in need of justice and reparations. Jews are presented as white people. It is therefore ok to hate Israel and Jews as they are deemed to be oppressors.”
I asked: “Why are the protests only about Israel versus other conflicts in the Middle East and around the globe where Palestinians and other civilians were killed?”
“Israel is the rare case where we have a hot conflict between people that are deemed ‘white’ versus people of color.”
The Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (ODEIB)
“The primary animating force of the ODEIB is racism-colonialism and the denial of indigenous rights. The ODEIB is a home for people who are perceived to have been victimized.”
“The ODEIB was meant to include Asians, but it does not. It is focused on communities that experienced colonialism.”
“Recency matters. India is not included because they got autonomy 70 years ago.”
“The ODEIB is at the service of black students, to a lesser extent brown students, and to a lesser extent LGBTQ students.”
“It’s about whiteness versus people of color.”
“The DEI framework prioritizes people on the oppressed side of the narrative.”
And more. How long until they cancel Bill Ackman?
And herein lies the problem. Penny Pritzker won't lift a finger to fix it. She and her family are more like to double or triple down on DIE crappola.
If only employers would boycott Harvard.
Sad that these Jewish alumni didn't notice that Harvard represses speech until their ox got gored. Kinda like Reason didn't notice that Covid was as scam until it didn't matter anymore. But better late than never I suppose.
It does show that the progressive take on sex is, at best, as scientific as Lysenkoism, at worst, a religious dogma.
It's very notable that an evolutionary biologist, usually a target of young-earth creationists, was forced to resign by the gender cult. The same folks here who whine about Christian fundamentalists (aka Christo-fascists), for some reason see and have nothing wrong with the gender cult that denies biology in an even deeper way. It's as if their brains that were opposed to a 6,000 year old Earth suddenly turned off when confronted with having a boy become a girl and vice versa, as if we were clownfish instead of placental mammals, none of which have ever been observed to switch sex in any situation, anywhere.
I would expect the people who rail agansit creationists do so out of contempt for religion in general and Christianity in particular, then any real concern about scientific evidence. It is not about what they love, but what they hate.
Nope. Actual science facts about earth history are what they are. I don't give a shit about your religion until you try to tell me I have to share my classroom with your faith-based fantasies.
Turns out it wasn't about science, but about hating Christians. A lot of those same people probably think it's imperative for science to embrace indigenous ways of thinking about human origins or the nature of the world. Which sounds a lot like young earth creationism to me.
"Other ways of knowing"
Like racism, for the woke, religious fundamentalism comes in good and bad flavors.
When the "wrong kind of blacks" are perceived differently, that's racist...and it's racists that let the wrong kind of blacks into universities.
----------
When I got into Stanford, I was elated to finally have a larger community of Black students than what I dealt with growing up. Admittedly, I had this hyper-idealized perception of the Black community on campus. They were all exactly like me: slave descendants whose grandparents grew up in the South during Jim Crow.
Then, I quickly realized that I didn’t relate to the Black students on campus whose parents sacrificed everything in Kenya to give them a better life in the United States. And I didn’t relate to the Black students on campus who joined the Caribbean Students Association.
Colleges across the country are seeing Black immigrants overrepresented in the Black population on campus. Over 40% of Black students attending an Ivy League school come from an immigrant family, whereas first- and second-generation Black immigrants only make up 13% of the general Black U.S. population. At Harvard, this issue is especially pronounced, with the New York Times reporting that up to 66% of Black students come from African or Caribbean families. Because of this, Harvard students developed the Generational African American Students Association (GAASA) to create agency on campus.
Because of this, the success of a Black immigrant student feels like it’s taking away from a Generational Black student. It feels like we are competing for the same seat.
Once again, this rise in Black immigrant enrollment is a newer phenomenon happening in conjunction with the proportion of Black students going down at Stanford. Quite literally, elite institutions are squeezing out Generational Black students, with dark skin, low-income and first-generation students being hit the hardest.
Naturally, the next question is who upholds this inequality. According to a report conducted by Dr. Douglas Massey, a sociology professor at Princeton University, white admissions officers describe Black immigrants as “more polite, less hostile, more solicitous, and ‘easier to get along with’ … Native blacks are perceived in precisely the opposite fashion.”

“The ODEIB was meant to include Asians, but it does not. It is focused on communities that experienced colonialism.”
Uhh...that shows a deep and fundamental ignorance of literally the entirety of Asian history.
As if conquerors and wars never happened there.
They should just be honest and say they don't give a flying fuck about Asians or their history, and they refuse to learn. You know, basic and pervasive racism.
Never heard of Vietnam, have they? Wasn't that a part of French Indochina? Or the Philippines? That was Spain and later, the USA. What about the Dutch East Indies?
And that's just *European colonization*.
Apparently colonization doesn't count if its done by other Asians.
Remember, Harvard was founded by and for clergy, and the population of the proper faith. They have just returned to their roots.
Just kidding, New York City doesn't have those, because the city pols hate fun and freedom.
It's heavily restricted. You can pretty much only shoot a .22 rifle. But, there is this.
One has to rifle through the regulations to figure out how to get a permission slip.
It’s just a barrel of laughs.
And to think they weren't even gunning for this result.
gun puns trigger me, guys ...
Well, shoot.
You were the target audience.
That was not my aim.
Those regulations have probably been published in a magazine. I'm thinking a journal with a high capacity to print the voluminous boilerplate required. Of course you would have to clip the relevant sections.
We are just going round and round here.
With a bookmark thing that goes up?

As if the humor of "excitement of firing a .22 caliber rifle" weren't endearing enough:

Derek Chauvin did not kill himself.
Did he die?
this time I want to be ahead of the curve.
Last I heard he was in stable condition.
The FBI has plenty of informants doing long stretches. It's only a matter of time.
but the school has only offered her a “safety transfer” instead of stopping her tormentors.
We fixed the glitch.
