Brickbat: Have a Scooby Snack and Chill

A teacher at Sutter Elementary School in Antioch, California, who wasn't named by the media, has been placed on administrative leave because of her Halloween costume. The teacher came to school wearing a box painted as the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine, her face painted dark to represent the night, and a green moon over her head. Some at the school reportedly found her costume offensive. "We know that there's a long cultural, historical background to people putting dark makeup on, and there's a lot of context there that we know is harmful to particular students of color and very particular to the black community," said school board member Antonio Hernandez. "Regardless of what the intention was, we know what kind of feelings that image can provoke in parents, students and in the community."

I basically make about $16,000 to $20,000 a month online, and it’s enough to comfortably replace my old job’s income. What’s even more remarkable is that I only work about 10-13 hours a week, all from the convenience of my home.”

32,000 to 40,000 Act Blue talking points social media posts per month is a tall order.
Turns out it was really Old Man Wilson!
And he would've gotten away with it too, if wasn't for those darn raccoon dogs!
I'm making $90 an hour working from home. I never imagined that it was honest to goodness yet my closest companion is earning 16,000 US dollars a month by working on the connection, that was truly astounding for me, she prescribed for me to attempt it simply. So, without saying it he's branded her as racist.
Jinkies! How can dressing up as a van be taken as racist? Sounds like the mystery here is discovering the real reason they had a grudge against this teacher.
Easy. Classic vans burn gas and spew poison that differentially kills oppressed POCs. The NYT told me that.
Her fault for not identifying as an attack helicopter. The attack helicopter people have a long cultural history of painting their faces.
JFC. Clearly this is how you teach rational behavior in a tolerant environment
Skin color is the most important thing
A famous mis-quote from someone somewhere:
"No man ever sinks so low, or becomes so repulsive that he cannot serve as a bad example".
(That thought sort of just popped into my head)
As expressed on a classic Demotivator poster, with a photo of a sinking ship: The Purpose of Some People's Lives is to Serve as a Warning to Others
"Regardless of what the intention was, we know what kind of feelings that image can provoke in parents, students and in the community."
Fine, next year I'll just wear a trench coat or come as a trans former student.
Couple years back a some friends were over with their kids who were on break from college (a freshman and sophomore). I had an Ink Master marathon running in the background and both of the students asked me to change it because of Oliver Peck; who had recently been kicked off the show after photos surfaced of him at a party in black face.
What stuck me as really odd at the time was that neither of them could explain what about that was racist. One of them used generic buzz word terms like cultural appropriations and antiracism, but had zero idea what he was saying. The other at least meandered down the exploitation path, but still had almost no idea what the racist part was exactly.
Even more surprising at the time, and much more concerning, was that neither of them had any interest whatsoever of learning what is racist about it. Even worse, the whole conversation made them very uncomfortable and it was obvious that they had put "blackface" into a racist box and that was all they needed or wanted to know. Check the box and done!
Ever since I have thought it would be interesting to see a survey and find out how many people could actually tell you why blackface is racist or explain why it is offensive to them personally.
I still don't know what is racist about it.
Lou read once sang " I wanna be black"
I listened to that over the radio waves. Just more victim/ virtue signalling.
Daddy, teacher says every time someone walks into the blackface trap, a libertarian is born.
What's harmful to children (of color and everyone else) is this grotesque overreaction to acts that are not intentionally offensive. The administration has done far more emotional harm to these children than the teacher ever could have through this incident.
Not to mention that the people who got offended are themselves ignorant of the historical context. "Blackface" isn't just "turning your whole head literally black" particularly in this instance where it's intended to indicate its absence, but rather a very specific style of face paint which also includes specific bright white features to emphasize certain characteristics.
So they're offended by something that is so outside of their experiences that they don't even know what it actually is.
It's not about what's good, what's right, or what's logical.
People just want to exercise power. They can act all high and mighty, make someone "guilty", then use that "guilt" to control people.
People less savvy do it as well, just because it's fun to act all high and mighty. And to be on the "right" side, the side all their friends and people they admire are on. Mobs aren't particularly introspective.
Yeah, we went through this with the Ivy League IT list of banned words and the term "black box". Not only is the use of the color not racial but the color is specifically immaterial to the concept. "Black" is invoked as an emptiness or unknown, not as a color or a race.
>>placed on administrative leave because of her Halloween costume.
paid? I'd "feature not bug" school board member Antonio Hernandez to his face on the way out the door.
thats just what i was thinking...I am assuming they are union so the teacher gets to spend a few days paid sitting at home...then probably gets a paid vacation to some seminar where she will learn all about not being racist.

Several years back a congress critter was attacked in the media for using the word "niggardly" in a speach. The word has nothing to do with "nigger". Yet the congress critter had to apologize for the ignorance of his audience and the media talking heads who harumphed in righteous indignation.
This seems more of the same. In their ignorance they were offended and the person they were offended by must pay for the ignorance of their audience.
