No threat in the US? Have you forgotten nearly 3,000 killed on 9/11/2001? The earlier WTC bombing? The Boston Marathon Bombing? The mass shooting at Fort Hood (2009)? The DC Sniper? (I’m not counting thousands of other murders by Americans who happened to be Muslim in the course of crimes such as robbery, burglary, and drug dealing, as well as Jew-bashing and other hate crimes – AFAIK, these Muslim criminals were no better nor worse than other criminals from similar neighborhoods.)

Muslim immigrants and their children in the US are less murderous and fanatical than in most of the world, but it doesn’t mean they are all peaceful. Nor are Muslims from outside the US incapable of coming here to kill us, but they are not the only problem. The first two attacks on my list were perpetrated by foreign Muslims here on short-term visas, the next two by the children of Muslim immigrants, and the last one by two American Black converts to Islam – but I think the DC Snipers were money-seeking extortionists only pretending to be Islamic terrorists.

While I am not a defender of Muslims, I think the lesson to be drawn from the news articles is the risk that subjects of kings run when they criticize the king, regardless of HRH’s religion, when the king really is a king, and has real power. Islamists in this country pose no more threat to us than we allow them to be, which gets us back to the fact that our greatest threats are the traitors within our own gates!

I think you're correct in that King James the 1st and 6th, or Elizabeth I, did worse to critics - and they were the best and most tolerant of the Stuarts and the Tudors. OTOH, AFAIK no one has ever been jailed for criticizing or even libeling Elizabeth II.

I recall that long ago when I was in high school, an exchange student from Denmark told of singing "God _shave_ the Queen" in a London theater - the management threw him out, but there was no further punishment and no official action against him. She was a powerless but highly respected figurehead, and if she had ever heard of this incident, I think she not only would have known she had no power to punish him, but would have thought such punishment was wrong.
