U.S. Finally Ends Federal COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate for Travelers, Employees, Head Start
The last vestiges of the Biden administration's pandemic mandates are disappearing on May 11.

At long last, the U.S. federal government will end the COVID-19 vaccine mandates for international travelers, federal workers, Head Start employees, and the healthcare industry. The mandates will expire on May 11, the date that President Joe Biden has designated as the formal end of the COVID-19 public health emergency.
While the Supreme Court previously struck down Biden's mandate requiring 80 million private sector employees to get vaccinated, the justices left intact the mandate for some federal employees and healthcare workers. A vaccine mandate was also still on the books for teachers who participate in Head Start, the federal preschool program, though an earlier court ruling had technically voided it.
U.S. citizens may return to the country even if they are not vaccinated, but the federal government has continued to prohibit unvaccinated non-citizens from entering the U.S. Most notably, this policy prevented international tennis star Novak Djokovic from participating in the Miami Open.
Now these policies—some of the last vestiges of the federal government's emergency pandemic powers—will finally come to an end. On Monday, White House COVID-19 coordinator Ashish Jha made it official.
"While I believe that these vaccine mandates had a tremendous beneficial impact, we are now at a point where we think that it makes a lot of sense to pull these requirements down," said Jha.
That's a relief, though it's coming far too late. We did not suddenly arrive at a point where getting rid of vaccine requirements makes sense; in fact, we are well past it.
To the extent there was any justification for COVID-19 vaccine mandates, it rested on the assumption that the vaccines were not merely protective of severe disease and death, but actually prevented the spread of the virus. When public health officials made their case for vaccine requirements, they did so according to the theory that vaccinating Person A would substantially reduce the likelihood of Person B catching COVID-19. Biden wrongly declared that "you're not going to get COVID-19 if you have these vaccinations." (He later tested positive, despite being vaccinated.) Mandates were intended to "stem the flood of infections," The New York Times reported in September of 2021.
But by then, it was already becoming clear that no societal level of vaccination would eliminate the virus. The vaccines have appreciably reduced the risk of severe infections, particularly among the elderly and other vulnerable groups, but do not substantially prevent infection itself. The overwhelming majority of Americans have had COVID-19 at least once, whether they were vaccinated or not. The vaccines may reduce the severity of symptoms, and a jab appears to offer temporary protection—much like so-called natural immunity after recovering from the disease. But COVID-19 has proven itself quite capable of evading protection, which is why many people have contracted it multiple times.
The federal government should have left the choice to get vaccinated to the people themselves. At the very least, an expansive vaccine mandate ought to have been debated by legislators, not forced on Americans via a presidential declaration. But Biden declined to recognize these limits on his power, and instead attempted to intervene in private medical decisions. So much for "my body, my choice."
The vaccine mandate was a major violation of individual rights, and the justification for it—a lasting, substantial reduction in transmission—turned out to be seriously flawed. Good riddance to an illiberal policy.

The science hasn't changed, it just ran its course. We'll do it again when there's another course of science to be done.

it was just a trial balloon - trying a different modality of the climate change gambit (which hasnt been as successful in aggregating more dictatorial power as they anticipated)
Apparently playing on more immediate personal health fears is the magic bullet for the state to suffocate any kind of protection of individual rights that the constitution might offer.
Just goes to show the majority of the population will give up any and all rights if they can just be promised they can live another day on their knees.

wow for a second I thought we finally ended funding for Head Start. A program which has no metrics of success other than enriching the folks who run it. Head start has been a total failure for "disadvantaged kids." Two parent families do a better job.
My friend put his daughter in that program recently. His daughter was not well adjusted socially for high school bullshit. So she’s going to switch to community college.
Primary school goes on to long. Cut out all the leftist garbage like sociology, woke studies, sensitive training, etc. and end high school after grade 10. Half high school is a ducking babysitting program, and has been for decades.
There is no sociology, woke or sensitivity training in typical high school curricula.
Yes there is. It's just after grooming and mandatory abortion until Kindergarten. Just before mostly-vegan-except-insects non-GMO lunch
See Diane's reply below and the replies to it. You really aren't far off!

Mike, are you the most ignorant person on the board. Learn what SEL is retard.
Did you mean running start not head start? Running start is a way the schools could axe gifted programs while simultaneously funneling state funds to their allies in higher education.
Decades ago we didn't need public babysitters. Us kids of the 80's were free range
"The federal government should have left the choice to get vaccinated to the people themselves. At the very least, an expansive vaccine mandate ought to have been debated by legislators, not forced on Americans via a presidential declaration."
But sarcasmic, White Mike and Shillsy have explained to us that it was all okay because it wasn't force-force.
Refuseniks weren't physically held down and injected. Sure they lost their jobs and subsequently house, car, etc... but they weren't forced!
Grandma will die!
The tragic and sad thing is the hyper-blue viral snowflakes who actually believe this, and continue to fret about going to the supermarket even with two masks on.
Here and there, health care workers whose jobs are to TAKE CARE OF IMMUNE COMPROMISED WORKERS, have been fired from their jobs (not jailed or forcibly injected) for NOT doing what their employers ask of them! The same has been done for DECADES now, for military troops who refuse to be vaccinated, refusing to be fit and ready for enemies, be they enemies human, protists, bacterial, or viral enemies! Pussy-shits are SOOOO brave to face bullets, bombs, and missiles, but are afraid of a tiny needle-jab! Fire them all, and let them get other jobs, lest they endanger the efforts of their far-more-brave (and conscientious) co-workers! NO slack for the slackers and defectors in the face of battle, here, please! They suck down the morale of their more-brave and more-conscientious co-workers! I know, because I have served!
Cowardly wusses and pussies like to LIE to us all, and call BEING FIRED FOR NOT DOING WHAT THE JOB REQUIRES as being “forced” to do shit!!! Hello, in a SANE world, any employer is entitled to FIRE you for NOT doing your fucking JOB!!!! Is this honestly called “forced labor”?!?!? Liars NEVER quit LYING!!!
"Cowardly wusses and pussies like to LIE to us all, and call BEING FIRED FOR NOT DOING WHAT THE JOB REQUIRES as being “forced” to do shit!!!"
See? Now he's pretending getting an experimental mRNA injection was somehow magically a prerequisite when joining the army or the DMV twenty years ago.
He's a complete fucking Nazi.
It is not as if there was a history of the military ordering troops to get vaccines that had bad side effects.
Specific requirements under certain conditions for specific well tested vaccines with a history of effectiveness is very different from attempting a blanket requirement for an experimental vaccine using largely untested technology, and which wasn't even tested for effectiveness against transmission.
https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/united-states-rates-of-covid-19-deaths-by-vaccination-status?country=~All+ages
Just LOOK at the (interactive) graph right at the top of this link!!!! COVID deaths among the unvaccinated VASTLY outnumbered, and still outnumber, the deaths among the vaccinated!!!
Also, bullets, bombs, and missiles have never been examined in double-blind, data-driven studies. Do they stop wars, or do the perpetuate wars? Since war is still here, after using weapons of war for tens of thousands of years, there is a STRONG case to be made that they SPREAD (and perpetuate) wars, rather than stop their transmission! (Your Great-Great-etc.-Grandaddy killed mine, so I MUST have REVENGE!) And needless to say, they (wars) cause massive-scale injury and death, and peace (non-war) does nothing comparable. Yet we STILL fire (from their jobs) warriors for refusing to use bullets, bombs, and missiles! ... Not everything can be determined strictly through the experimental "scientific data". What data we DO have says that vaccines WORK! Better than NOT using vaccines!
"What data we DO have says that vaccines WORK! Better than NOT using vaccines!"
The data we always had for the Covid vaccines showed that they were effective for some duration at reducing symptoms in vaccinated people who caught the virus. No data was initially collected which would allow anyone to know what (if any) amount of protection from catching the virus when exposed, or if there was any effect regarding re-transmission of the virus. The data that was collected in the trials which led to the FDA approval of the "bivalent booster" shots couldn't possibly be interpreted to imply any level of protection against transmission of the virus.
The basic science underlying vaccines in general is that the mechanism by which they work is to stimulate the same kind of immune response in the body which would be caused by "natural" infection but to do so without subjecting the body to the disease. This is why, in the past, Dr Fauci himself has publicly stated that someone who has had the Flu in a given season has no real need to get that year's "flu shot" since their system has already been through the autoimmune response that would be triggered by the shot (or at least the portion relevant to that year's circulating flu strain).
Somehow though, based on that data and underlying knowledge, those who claim to "believe in science" believed the completely baseless claims made by Biden and Walensky that "if you get the shot, you can't get the virus" as the basis for why mandatory vaccination was something which would indirectly protect those who couldn't get vaccinated (and which actually does in the case of viruses like measels and whooping cough for which vaccination actually is proven to prevent transmission of those viruses). Beyond that, these same people bought into the lies from Fauci that natural immunity was somehow inferior to vaccine immunity (in direct contradiction to data collected in countries like Israel which achieved high vax rates early on with the advantage of having a small, concentrated population) because supposedly only natural immunity faded over time, then also never questioned that logic when they got told they'd need to get boosted (and re-boosted) every several months when it turned out that the vax immunity faded as fast or faster than "natural" immunity.
There's a lot of data available to indicate that a lot of the vaccines we use regularly do, in fact work; vaccines for smallpox and polio worked so well that after a number of decades they were deemed to no longer be necessary to give universally in the USA. Vaccines for Measels and Whooping cough are provably effective enough that it took concentrated communities of "anti-vax" parents buying into junk science promoted by celebrities to create outbreaks when immunization rates among students in places like Hollywood and Santa Monica CA (some of the deepest "blue" parts of possibly the most solidly "blue" state in the nation) dropped to levels lower than those in active war zones in sub-saharan Africa.
The data that's available for the Covid vaccines is much less conclusive in terms of their effectivity at anything other than reducing symptoms for a virus which has a near-100% recovery rate in patients under 50 years of age; the data on detrimental side effects, especially long-term, is still TBD.
What point are you trying to make there? Fortunately, in medicine we can do proper randomized controlled trials. And should do so before making any claims about a drug's effectiveness.
As for these stats, I want to know how they are counting the vaccinated and unvaccinated. I don't trust much in public health stats these days. But great, at this point the vaccines seem to lower your danger from really, really low to really, really, really low.
"But great, at this point the vaccines seem to lower your danger from really, really low to really, really, really low."
Agreed! The wave is over! (The very-very vulnerable have been killed off, or have been spared having caught it badly). Between naturally-acquired immunity and vaccines, the wave is over; Praise Government Almighty! (/Sarc)
BAD Raccoon dogs! BAD-dog! Don't DOOOO that again, bad-dog!
And, no, data doesn't tell us that vaccines in general work. There have been lots of failed vaccines, some of which made outcomes worse. If you think it's reasonable to say "this is a vaccine and vaccines are good, therefore take this vaccine", you are a dope.
Well yes, anthrax vaccines, mandated for at least some of the troops in the 1990s sucked pretty badly, sad to say... So I can see why some of the troops were spooked by COVID vaccine mandates. Shit is always too complicated, and sweeping statements are rarely totally true!
Economic terrorism is fine.
Choices that are difficult are still choices.
So you can tell us who's a kulak, or your daughter will get raped in front of you.
Would it really have been responsible for the Feds to leave the choice to individuals?
With all the lies coming from Fauci and Walensky, combined with the melodrama from Walensky. Plus the doublethink coming from the White House which campaigned on the need to replace trump for putting too much priority on vaccines and not enough on forcing the manufacture of respirators, then shifted and declared the former POTUS to be sowing "hesitancy" of people to get the shots which Biden, Kamala, and almost every other prominent Dem declared they "wouldn't trust" as late as October 2020. Not to mention the reflexive politicization of any potential therapeutic by the MSM; how would anyone among the public possibly have been able to make a properly informed decision about whether or not to take the vaccine?
The real danger is that now that the "experts" have traded the credibility of their agencies for an attempt at authoritarian power for power's sake, will enough people actually trust their successors to actually act within the principles of science next time instead of once more rejecting objectivity in service of political activism?
Oh, which reminds me, we’re gonna need another few hundred billion for the homeless epidemic. Thanks!
Or leaders in Washington, both elected and appointed learned that a large swath of Americans will not only lay down, but enthusiastically endorse the loss of freedom and liberty. We march, enthusiastically to our demise
I agree it ran its course. Like bad arepas sold in Caracas.
Btw is there anything less exciting than watching your kids track and field competitions? Maybe their golf or cross country. Beautiful day out, my last day off and my wife insisted we go watch my daughters track and field. So far we've been here for four and a half hours and seen her compete for 12 seconds.
Oh and joy of joys we get to go grocery shopping afterwards. Not even any good articles to comment on today. Other than some stupidity about how racial justice and equity can be libertarian principles.
High schools could be so much more streamlined if they dropped all the woke shit and outsourced extracurricular and sports to private entities. It would also save a lot of money.
Government schools have got to go.
Golf is much more interesting than track and field. There's some thought involved, some numbers to keep track of, relative positioning, etc. I suppose if your brain is completely disengaged, golf can be really dull, but track and field is just so basic.
I wouldn't mind, except the three or four hours between events I care about. And the fact that even when you get to those events you have multiple heats. And my daughter always seems to be in the last one or two heats.
Right, and if your daughter was a golfer, she'd be constantly playing. A big part of the playing is just the walking from location to location, of course. It depends on whether you're walking the course following along as a spectator or if you're just sitting in bleachers by the 18th green, I suppose. But if she was golfing and you were walking along to follow the action, there'd be plenty to watch.
I can understand if you don't want to have to spend about 4 hours on your feet, though, on a day off.
And a golf course is probably a nicer place to spend a lovely spring afternoon.
"U.S. federal government will end the COVID-19 vaccine mandates for international travelers, federal workers, Head Start employees, and the healthcare industry"
Imagine being in cahoots with big pharma, investing in them before (mysteriously) supporting mandates that the populace inject themselves with their product, also push the product on populations that aren't at risk at all (young, college, really any school, healthy adults), and making draconian laws that threaten employees jobs if they dont comply, despite all evidence that they very likely dont (certainly more likely than not) need said medicine. Imagine doing the above, and having the nerve to call literally anyone else a fascist, ever.
Maybe its more like a mob? Cartel? Doesnt matter I suppose, it all comes from the same place..."do what the fuck we say or itd be a shame what happens to you"
Like most of the left's charges, the charge of fascism lacks any and all historical literacy. They also maintain deregulation is fascism. Completely ignoring that Hitler increased the size of the bureaucracy by substantial amounts (tyrants almost universally require a large bureaucracy to control the people). Or that fascism was free markers and free speech. Pretty much the opposite of what fascists actually did do.
It is just fascism is bad, and everything I disagree with is bad, so therefore, if I disagree with it it must be fascism. The same holds true with their charges of racism, phobias (which they totally use the word wrong), slavery (working voluntarily in a job taking wages is pretty much the opposite of slavery) etc. I could say the same about charges of Marxism and Socialism aimed at the left, if the left didn't openly embrace people who label themselves as Marxists or Socialists, and even voted one into second place in their last two presidential primaries. The right has never, in my life, openly embraced anyone who describes themselves as a fascist, or vote for a self described fascist.
And I don't think I've ever met someone on the right who cries 'but real fascism has never been tried'.
Yes, there is a lot of imagination in that.

The justification wasn't "seriously flawed," it was an outright lie. The people behind the vaccine mandates knew all along that the transfection agents did not prevent transmission and were never intended to, as we've learned from both FOIA'd documents and pharma execs' admissions..
The invention called "food" hasn't eliminated hunger or starvation, and it sometimes causes illness and death via "food poisoning". ALSO it requires CONSTANT "booster shots"!!! Seeing ALL of these SEVERE defects... Sensible people "just say no" to this fallible, new-fangled "food" stuff!!!
Okay. That’s clever.
Thanks Kindest of All Kind Dude-Sirs!!!
It's funny because it's not true.
If by clever you mean dishonest and retarded.
Because 1. food does eliminate hunger and starvation, 100% of the time. In fact by definition hunger and starvation are characterized by a lack of food.
And 2. food doesn't cause food poisoning. Toxins or bacteria that appear in the food cause illness and death, but not the food itself.
In contrast the mRNA injections themselves caused injury through excessive and prolonged spike protein creation, and were ineffective against the virus whether you were boosted or not.
This type of short-bus sophistry is Shillsy's hallmark here.
https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/united-states-rates-of-covid-19-deaths-by-vaccination-status?country=~All+ages
Just LOOK at the (interactive) graph right at the top of this link!!!! COVID deaths among the unvaccinated VASTLY outnumbered, and still outnumber, the deaths among the vaccinated!!! WHY do You Perfectly Lust SOOOO Much for death, disease, and suffering?!?!
What's the denominator for the unvaccinated rate?
The problem with that graph is that plotting "rate per 100k population" gets distorted when most of the deaths are happening among a population subset (people over 65 years old) in which almost everyone is vaccinated at least once, and make up almost the entire population of people who took a bivalent booster (except for those who either faced a mandate of some kind or some of the deepest "team panic" true believers).
With a relatively tiny fraction of remaining unvaxed over age 65 (most of them having health issues which made them unable to take the shots), the rate calculation produces an inflated result due to a small denominator as much or more than because of a large numerator. It doesn't prove that the vaccines don't have some effect, but since the early months of 2021 it's been statistically provable that a "fully vaxed" 75 year old is still at hundreds of times higher risk of "dying from covid" than an vaccinated healthy teenager. The data from early on (which CDC and the MSM spent a lot of time and effort trying to obfuscate) were always clear that the top five "comorbidity" conditions tied to increased risk of covid death have been (in decreasing order of severity) age, age, age, diabetes, and age; especially once the medical profession figured out that putting younger covid patients onto ventilators was causing more deaths than it prevented (yet the "believers in science" still think that failure to rush-produce millions of ventilators was bad policy). It's no coincidence that the median age of those deaths was at 75 years when the vaccines rolled out and has risen steadily since then.
CDC Data as of a week ago:
https://data.cdc.gov/widgets/9bhg-hcku?mobile_redirect=true
Total Covid deaths (over the whole pandemic) over 65 years old= 852541, total deaths under 18 = 1596, total all ages = 1,127,855; just over 3/4 of all Covid deaths in the USA were over 65 years of age, just over 0.1% were kids. In terms of overall population numbers, over 65 makes up about 15% of the country, and under 18 is about 25% of the country.
For as much as Fauci and Walensky wanted to keep everyone terrified of the virus as an "equal opportunity" danger, less than 1/6 of the total population accounted for 3/4 of all Covid deaths and 1/4 accounted for virtually none
Hmmm, not sure that works. No, it doesn't work at all. nobody 2 says that the claims regarding the vaccine were untrue and they did not work as stated. Lies. We are told that food sustains life and it does. Always has. Always will. The claim is true. Proven again and again over the ages.
And yet people are addicted to food, which is contributing to climate change, so we must phase it out as soon as possible!
And most importantly, no one would consider forcing people to eat a certain kind of food, that has never been eaten before by large numbers of people, and which is known to cause significant adverse reactions in many people who eat it.
But Biden declined to recognize these limits on his power
The fact he did it and nobody stopped him show no such limits exist.
Until Trump gets elected.
So are the people who keep getting the couf over and over again, doing anything differently or are they practicing the same habits ?
Who are exactly these "people who keep getting the couf over and over again"? Do they even exist? Elaborate further.
The simple fact that it has taken this long to remove the mandate is enough to remove Joe Biden from office. Not that I want Donald Trump, but at this point he poses less risk.
If Trump was President, the corporate media would question his every move, but with Biden as President the sycophantic corporate media provides cover and spreads propaganda.
I'm pleading with the two dysfunctional disasters we call the major political parties. Are these two old geezers the best that you can do?
