A report by the British Children's Commissioner found that police in England and Wales strip-searched almost 3,000 children between 2018 and mid 2022. More than half of those searches took place without a legally required appropriate adult present. And the searches did not always take place in police stations but in patrol vehicles, private businesses and amusement parks, among other locations. The report noted that attention is being paid to the issue not because of a whistle blower but because a 15-year-old girl spoke up after she was strip-searched by police in school. The officers were looking for drugs but did not find any.

Pssst! Hey! MatthewSlyfield! I think the point is that at least some of the searches weren't in any way justified even if a parent were present. Maybe also, if that were the case, including a parent in the search would be effectively forcing the parent to serve as a witness to their own kid getting molested.

The point is a parent would be in a better position to object/call a lawyer than the minor if the search isn't justified.

In case anyone cares, I ran back through the sources a bit and as you might expect 3/4's of the searches were 16 and 17 year-olds. Which is a little different than publicly strip searching 3000+ 12 year-olds.

Didn't see an actual an actual break down by age, so I can't tell you how the 10-15 bracket further breaks down.

Strip-searching 15 to 16 year olds is far more interesting than strip-searching 12 year olds. Or at least it is to those cops who aren't so perverted the other pervert cops may arrest them.
