Brickbat: Walk This Way, Don't Drive

In England, the council for the London borough of Hackney has announced plans to ban through traffic from from motorized vehicles from 75 percent of city streets. Electric vehicles and bicycles would still be allowed to travel through, as will emergency vehicles and trash collection trucks. The plan will be rolled out over three years.

If you put chains and shackles on them and stake them to a post, people won't be able to escape the benevolent embrace of the state at all. Form follows function, you know.
Same old Hackneyed routine.
"Brexit, stage left!" -Snagglepuss (as he relocates from Hackney)
No, they're banning gas and diesel cars and trucks. I'd say that includes delivery trucks. A loss of traffic for businesses , loss of tax revenue. Greta will be so proud.
Greta Thunberg doesn't *really* care about the environment! She doesn't even reuse her toilet paper!
Electric vehicles and bicycles would still be allowed to travel through...
Get people used to walking freely in the streets and then unleash silent rolling time bombs.
Too funny.

It likely won't change thru traffic times at all. With local traffic and alternative modes on the other streets, that also eliminates parking on the streets that will have thru traffic. So those will speed up - and they will likely be able to eliminate most traffic lights on those streets in favor of rotaries.
what it will do is screw up traffic everywhere else and life will be a nightmare for those outside of the main districts and many offices will probably relocate to car friendly locations.
they closed off one street in our downtown, which very few business wanted, and made traffic a nightmare on the little side streets that used to be quit neighborhoods. Note tourist now by pass the down town area since they don’t know its there now
they are also planning a "traffic circle" their term, its actually a traffic loop that will take tourist even farther away from down town and for others who need to pass thru the area will now have to travel a 1/2 mile or more to get to their destination it is literally stupid and ruining the town
Sounds even worse than the ART fiasco in Albuquerque.
"Hey, y'know what we should do with the main drag through town? The aptly named 'Central Avenue', part of the famous and historic Route 66? We should make it super obnoxious to drive on in favor of multiple dedicated lanes for buses nobody will ride!"
Any town that is doing that stuff one street at a time is going to create a clusterfuck. That's for temporary construction. Redoing the entire grid otoh is exactly what works because that's what separates different modes of traffic.
they talk funny in Hackney maybe everybody just misunderstood the plan
Maybe they are nostalgic for the good ol' days, when most people in England lived and died within a dozen miles of their birth place. How joyful (and green) would that be?
