The War in Ukraine Has No End in Sight
After one year, whatever morale boost Biden’s visit provided won’t necessarily have concrete, strategic effects in Ukraine.

President Joe Biden marked the one-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which falls on Friday, a few days early. Joining Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv, Biden went well beyond praising Zelenskyy's leadership and the strength of Ukrainian resistance to a brutal Russian onslaught. "Unchecked aggression is a threat to all of us," he said, touting U.S. military aid and re-upping his State of the Union pledge that the U.S. will support Ukraine "for as long as it takes."
How long that may be is the question of the hour, occasioned as much by the anniversary and Biden's comments as by an understandable but almost certainly unrealistic hope for a near-term, cinematic Ukrainian victory.
A sudden, happy upset is possible, of course. History sometimes does turn on a dime. But the likeliest path forward is an ugly one, a long slog of a war that we can't confidently expect will conclude in its second year or, perhaps, will definitely conclude at all. The war isn't following a tidy narrative arc, and there's no basis for believing the U.S.—or anyone, including Biden and Zelenskyy—has the capacity to push it to a satisfying resolution.
The possibility of a long timeline and lack of resolution was difficult to entertain this time last year. The widespread assumption was that Russian troops would roll into Kyiv, rapidly overpowering the smaller nation. Of course, that didn't happen, and Ukraine's fall counteroffensive had stunning success reclaiming large swathes of territory.
Now it's difficult not to trace that line of success further, imagining more Ukrainian triumphs as winter concludes, maybe even reclamation of the Crimean Peninsula. "We are Harry Potter and William Wallace, the Na'vi and Han Solo," said a Ukrainian soldier profiled on NATO's Twitter account on Thursday. "We're escaping from Shawshank and blowing up the Death Star. We are fighting with the Harkonnens and challenging Thanos."
That mythologizing is sympathetic and perhaps to be expected from Ukrainian forces. But here in the States, we—and especially policy makers—should have a more sober view. It's right to want to see the end of Russian aggression, but it's also wise to recognize it probably won't end soon.
As a collection of experts including "national security analysts, lawmakers and retired officials" told Defense News, this "war will be expensive, cost lives and likely last at least a few years—or even become interminable." The "very concept of victory may be inaccurate," as a Russian army driven back across Ukrainian borders could repeatedly reinvade.
Also plausible is a "Korea solution," as my Defense Priorities colleague Lyle Goldstein recently argued at Responsible Statecraft, in which open fighting would stop but the combatants might continue for decades without a formal peace. And a long-term war is probably to Moscow's advantage. Ukraine's economy has suffered serious harm in the first 12 months, as has its military. Financial and military aid from Western powers may begin to flag. Pending the outcome of the 2024 election, U.S. aid could be markedly curtailed or cut off entirely by a new administration and/or congressional majorities.
That reality hasn't necessarily sunk in with the U.S. war effort's most energetic boosters. Moscow "has been reduced to one last hope: that [Russian President] Vladimir Putin's will is stronger than Joe Biden's," argued erstwhile Committee for the Liberation of Iraq member Eliot A. Cohen at The Atlantic this week. "And [by visiting Kyiv] Biden just said, by deed as well as word, 'Oh no it's not.'" Cohen continued:
This is a gut punch to Russia's leader. The Russians received word of the trip, we are informed—and presumably the threat, stated or implied, that they would get a violent and overwhelming response if they attempted to interfere with it. For a leader obsessed with strength, like Putin, that is a blow. His own people will quietly or openly ask, "Why could we not prevent this?" And the answer, unstated, will have to be, "Because we were afraid."
Will it, though? That's a great story, but it beggars belief that an autocratic leader like Putin, committed to what he considers an existential battle, will be meaningfully moved toward surrender by Biden's one-day appearance in Kyiv. (Never mind the fact that the war could easily outlast Biden's presidency, so pinning Ukraine's fate to his personal willpower seems risky at best, or that Moscow was advised about the visit ahead of time and didn't try to prevent it, an obviously reckless effort that could have easily tipped into open great power conflict.)
Morale isn't nothing, of course. But whatever morale boost Biden provided won't necessarily have concrete, strategic effects. There isn't a straight route from "Biden visits Kyiv" to "Ukraine retakes the Donbas" or, indeed, to any specific battlefield or diplomatic outcome. The unpleasant truth, at the one-year mark, is that we just don't know where this story will go next—or when or whether this war will end.

Cha-ching!
You can thank Obama/Biden.
Here’s Victoria Nuland, Biden’s assistant Secretary of State planning the coup in Ukraine in 2014, putting the Jew Zelensky in charge, and having Nazis fight his bloody civil war against Ukrainians who had won a democratic election with Yanukovych
Biden never did respect democracy.

Ah, Herr Misek…… visions of swastikas dancing in your head, plans for everyone. Why does a Holocaust denier, such as yourself, come to a website like this when you strive for your new socialist Reich?
I like feeding trolls like you the truth that you can’t refute and laughing every time you choke on it. Hahaha.
You're lies have been refuted thousands of times. Lying about the evidence allows you to continue to pretend that you haven't.
You’re lying again Kol Nidre boy.
If your claim was true, you could describe and post a link to where anything that I’ve said has been refuted. I’ve challenged you to do it many times before and you never have. You run away like the lying coward you are, caught lying.
I can post several links to prove my claim.
Rob, You are totally correct. Of course Obammy had some help from NATO(North Atlantic Terrorist Organization).
Who were those snipers shooting people on both sides?
As it turns out, this is not a war for Ukraine (no democracy there) but a war against Russia.
Biden is doing the devils own handiwork.
Of course, you agree with him about the ones you so cowardly call Chews too, right?
Google paying a splendid earnings from domestic 6,850 USD a week, this is awesome a 12 months beyond I was laid-off in a totally horrible financial system. “w many thank you google every day for blessing the ones oa-11 guidelines and presently it’s miles my responsibility to pay and percentage it with all and Sunday.
.
.
Proper right here I started————————>>> GOOGLE WORK
You’re universally seen as a Nazi buffoon. Did you know that?
Now, now. Let's not use Bowie's name in vain by putting his lyrics in the same breath with Herr Misek.
😉
Seriously, go jump head first into a wood chipper. Either you're Russian, a Nazi, or both.
Bonnie, we have a good idea where this is headed. The driver of this mess, Biden (D), has a near fifty year track record in public office of reckless hawkish behavior. He voted for Iraq, Afghanistan and has been the ring leader behind transferring $113B of wealth from the US to corrupt Kiev. Brandon has been pressing Zelensky to initiate an offensive…perhaps why we keep getting new videos of Einsatzgruppen in Ukraine kidnapping young men off the streets for sacrifice in the meat grinder. The forecast is escalation. Kiev attacking Transnistria may bring new countries and/or weapon technologies into the fray.
Exactly. This was easily predictable, but when you care more about mean tweets than stopping war, this is what get.
What a moronic interpretation. Did you get that from Rockwell or St Petersburg?
StayFree, you are once again dripping with contempt for the truth.
He probably still thinks the Ohio train derailment was Trump’s fault.
That may be true, but he's wrong within normal parameters. That being no mean tweets.
Chumby, there were voices in Ukraine promoting pro-Libertarian, pro-Civil Society ideas and fighting against corruption in Ukraine before Putin's invasion came and chased them all to other countries, as this video from Maria Chaplia for HumanProgress 11 months ago clearly shows:
Maria Chaplia: An Update on Ukraine | The Human Progress Podcast Ep. 25
https://youtu.be/99mxC4mRjSA
She pointed out that Ukrainians freely protested government actions frequently before the invasion, in stark contrast to Putin's suppression of dissent in Russia. Is this protest what a regime of Einsatzgruppen would permit in Ukraine?
Chumby, please reconsider. You can oppose Biden and U.S. foreign policy and chase Chumby chortles without parroting Putin propaganda.
The driver of this mess is Putin, your hero. His newest trick is to kidnap kids, brainwash them, then use them for his evil propeganda.
And you support that.
The power to end the war resides in one man, Putin. The side on the defensive can never stop a war, they can only surrender. How long will Putin continue the war is anyone's guess? What we do know is that aggressors often tired out quicker than defenders and we can hope that happen soon.
We are seeing support in Germany wane so yeah, the western aggressors are tiring of funding a corrupt, genocidal straight right arm saluting regime. The MIC simp warboners in the US still believe they will get it right this time!
There is also the likelihood that the US attacked the energy supply of Western Europe damaging their economy and making their lives miserable this winter.
That was an act of war that Biden (D) engaged in against a NATO nation. Per article 5, NATO should combine her forces against Biden.
We could do the right thing and hand over the entire Biden administration to be executed for war crimes. Then we can reinstate Trump as the rightful president to begin his second term. Then this will quickly go away.
It isn’t a likelihood, it’s almost certainly a fact. Especially since Biden said he would destroy it. If we want to survive, the democrats must be removed.
Notice how NO ONE picked up on that bullshit story?
That should tell you something.
To quote 'the master', the attacker must overcome, the defender need only survive.
As a side note, Reagan proved we can spend Russia into the ground.
We just need to open the oil spigot again.
I mean he feels aggrieved by the ever advancing NATO state eastward. Obama state department bragged about this advancement. This could have been ended a decade ago. It helps to listen to your perceived enemies. The US and EU have not helped themselves.
Bidens state department apparently told big Z to not negotiate terms which would have ended it as well.
"Bidens state department apparently told big Z to not negotiate terms which would have ended it as well."
Got a citation for this? I am guessing not because you rarely reply when your assertions are challenged.
Lol. What a fucking ignorant lie. This has been reported on for a year.
Here is politico even reporting on it.
https://www.politico.com/news/2022/11/08/biden-admin-nudging-led-ukraine-to-drop-putin-condition-for-peace-talks-00065679
You leftists can’t help but project your own ignorance onto others.
Putin offered terms last year. Biden's response was billions more in weapons and money.
Here is an account of the US refusing to negotiate with russia at the outset. Claiming no good faith from russia.
https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/20/opinions/us-ambassador-russia-invasion-negotiate-sullivan-ctrp/index.html
Here is the original compromise last year scuttled after a discussion with Biden and more funding.

Zelensky asking biden to stop sanctioning all the Russians during negotiation talks, Biden did anyways.
Boris Johnson, who was working with the EU and Biden, tells Ukraine to ditch peace talks.
https://www.commondreams.org/news/2022/05/06/boris-johnson-pressured-zelenskyy-ditch-peace-talks-russia-ukrainian-paper
At each step Biden has escalated with weapons sales, sanctions, and statements. His state department openly talks about destroying Russia through the war as Biden arms Ukraine. The US now has given Ukraine more than an entire years worth of GDP to Ukraine.
Sorry you're so defensive for the DNC.
M4e comes off as a George W Bush - Dick Cheney type. Disgraceful.
Yes but I can find citation that prove my point and JesseAz seem to have failed there.
It wasn't just Obiden either. BoJo was also involved, in fact it was he who persuaded Ukraine to drop out of peace talks with Russia last April. Blowjob the Klown strikes again.
Did you happen to read the piece you cited? Because it doesn't say what you have said.
Cool story bro. You might want to get a bigger shovel for that bullshit you’re slinging.
Hey Mode, when are YOU going to reply? You fucking coward.
"he feels aggrieved by the ever advancing NATO state eastward"
So what? That doesn't justify war, genocide, child kidnapping, or Russia's war crimes against humanity.
Or they can conquer Russia. They did it once before, which is how it became Russia.
And that is the reason why Russia sees this war as existential and doesn't want NATO in Ukraine.
No guessing needed: this war is existential for Putin and for Russia. Russia is going to continue this for as long as it is able to.
That's the pattern when the defenders are hiding out in the mountains, like in Afghanistan, because those areas are of low value and very difficult to conquer. The pattern doesn't hold for large, flat areas.
this war is existential for Putin and for Russia.
It is not remotely existential for Russia. Ukraine recognizes Russia's existence. Russia does not recognize Ukraine's.
The West doesn’t recognize either Russia’s or Ukraine’s existence, except as dirt poor vassal states. That’s the problem.
What are you talking about?
You need to see a doctor about your head injury.
No, you need to get out of your ignorant, provincial mindset and stop believing the propaganda you're being spoon fed.
End all support for Ukraine - the war would be over quickly. I would guess that’s how most Americans feel about it. Perhaps if America had not been so war mongering over the last several decades, its citizens might find it in their hearts to support it more. However, decades of wasting precious blood and national treasure in far-flung wars have contributed to our teetering on bankruptcy. It’s hard to support the tens of $billions being poured into Ukraine to support their military, as well as their government paychecks and pensions, when their is constant talk about the sorry and unsustainable path our own pensions and SS are on.
In all fairness, SS, Medicare, and Medicaid are the bigger chunks our debt, with defense coming in fourth and foreign aid even further down. Granted, it all contributes to our Debt, but if we withdrew our Military from everywhere tomorrow, it would just slow the bankruptcy a little.
Sadly, I agree. But the optics of Biden basically promising unending support to Ukraine are terrible, in light of our own rapidly deteriorating fiscal situation.
No end in sight?
That's not true. Our final, decisive victory is just around the corner. Turns out the official hype man for the Biden economy is also the official hype man for Biden's foreign policy. And check out his expert analysis:
Russia is disintegrating. They are near impoverishment. Biden laid the hammer on them. I can’t wait for Putin to be shot in the head.
I haven't been this reassured since a year ago when Twitter experts informed me Russia's military was days away from collapse because they got stuck in the mud. 🙂

We often run one of those YouTube “live cameras around the world” feeds on in the background at my house. And when the cameras in St. Petersburg and Kalinin, etc pop up, with people thronging the streets with shopping bags, it’s fun to yell “CRUSHING SANCTIONS!”.
Well, it for damn sure won't end until Bumbles Biden delivers actual arms instead of platitudes.
Delivering arms is exactly why it's still going on.
Ukraine has lost 150k fighting men. They're kidnapping people off the street to fill the ranks. But they're still shelling Donetsk, not near the front lines, even as they talk about needing more money and weapons.
They're only capable of continuing the war to reconquer areas that seceded from Ukraine and want no part of Kiev's rule because NATO continues propping them up.
Likely much more than that. They're running out of Ukrainians.
Yea, I figured the conservative estimate was still enough to drive the point home.
But you're correct.
I’m sure the neocon warboners here will head over there soon to shore up the ranks.
Even without the war, Ukraine was already running out of people. The fertility rate is 1.22, lower than Germany and far lower than Russia.
But after their glorious victory and after they join the EU, they can repopulate with tens of millions of economic refugees from Asia and Africa!
https://worldinmaps.com/country/ukraine/
Those who are of draft age have likely fled to Poland.
Millions have just hightailed it out of there. 2M to Russia. Lol.
There have been $113B of
platitudesarms delivered plus more from the other NATO cucks. As Nardz pointed out, that is just exacerbating the conflict.I think that $113B incudes pensions, payroll and graft.
Which means that maybe $10B of this amount actually ended up being used to supply the troops doing the fighting.
We haven’t been this close to nuclear war since the Cuban missile crisis.
This should be a wake up call to eliminate the democrat party while there is still time.
Too late. They've won.
Nope. They could be gone very quickly.
Or preventing Russia from conquering Ukraine.
Russia was liberating the citizens in Donbas and Luhansk who were being killed in a genocidal campaign either supported or tolerated by the western backed nazi apologist regime in Kiev for more than seven years. Kiev, per instructions from Biden (D), dod not negotiate to reconcile their violations of Minsk which called for greater autonomy in those regions. Instead, Kiev gave them death. The ghost of Stepan Bandera thanks you for your support.
LOL That "genocidal campaign" you are talking about in Donetsk and Luhansk claimed <25 civilian killed in 2020. According to the Russian puppet governments of Donetsk and Luhansk. This past year of open conflict, the two governments have admitted that the conflict has claimed 4000+ civilians. So apparently, they are O.K. with horrendously more civilian casualties....so long as they are caused by Russian imperial aggression to seize territory, rather Ukrainian actions to reclaim their 1991 borders that the Russians guaranteed. Who are the Nazis? Not to mention the thousands of Ukrainian children kidnapped from a war zone and sent to camps in Russia....or adopted out to Russian military families... Sounds like a war crime to me, comrade.
I can tell you which ones use nazi symbols, have some kinda creepy propaganda chanting about blood and soil, and who have some even creepier snuff videos of them in action.
You mean Rusich right? Or Russki Obraz? Or the Night Wolves? Or the Imperial Legion?
Oh, we’re sending them billions, too and calling them heroes?
It’s mostly Chechens, Buddhists, and foreign mercenaries I’ve seen in action on the Russian side.
It was greater than 11,000 over the seven year period. Kiev refused to adhere to Minsk 2.
The nazis are the ones idolizing previous nazis such as Stepan Bandera and using nazi insignias on their branding such as Zelensky’s Azov battalion. Videos out of Ukraine show this. Germany recently reminded Ukrainian immigrants to not use right arm salutes or nazi insignias because that is punishable under German law.
Genocide, refusal to adhere to previous agreements and western expansion are why they are where they are.
Ukraine shelling a nuclear power plant, cutting off water to Crimea, torturing captured soldiers (videos out of Ukraine posted by Ukrainians on Ukrainian channels show these), raping of civilians in Donbas by Ukrainians and their foreign legion (there is an American blogger that participated in this - a different US administration might take action but we know how Biden feels about those things) are all war crimes. Anyone committing a war crime should be tried. Anyone. War is dirty. It is for that and other reasons why the US should stay completely out of this. We would likely not be in this without western backing… If individual Americans feel passionate about protecting Zelensky, they are free to send him there money and/or head there to volunteer for service. Most just bang away on the keyboard.
Virtually every news report about the Ukraine older than one year is about Nazis and corruption. From the same news sources calling this a fight for democracy today.
I must admit that I am a little fuzzy on some things about The Russo-Ukrainian War, and maybe somebody has answered this question of mine before. But I have to ask:
If Ukraine is guilty of genocide against ethnic Russians in East Ukraine since 2014, why was this claim rejected by the International Court of Justice, a body appointed by members of the UN Security Council, including Russia?
I'm sure innocent civilians of all ethnicities and nationalities have been senselessly killed by both sides and I hate every bit of it. (Sadly, Patton's Two Laws of War haven't been refuted yet.) But did this rise to the level and fit the elements of gencode for ethnic Russians in East Ukraine?
Inquiring minds want to know.
I’ve read that Ukraine filed a suit after the invasion. Not quite the same thing, if that’s the case.
The fact that Russia is outnumbered on the security council or unconcerned with using the “legitimacy” of the UN to achieve its own goals isn’t entirely surprising.
Considering the UNs broader goals concerning everything from energy to social Justice isn’t really a thing anyone east of the Czech Republic cares for. (Out side of post 2014 Ukraine).,
Well, historically, the UN is more likely to side with Russia than the U.S. and the West, yet the ICJ didn't side with Russia's claim of genocide against ethnic Russians in Ukraine.
"Russia was liberating the citizens in Donbas and Luhansk"
No they weren't. Either you're a Russian troll paid to spread lies, or you're from a western country and a traitor to humanity.
Here's the deal, and it's been the deal since 2014:
Crimea and the Donbass aren't part of Ukraine. They seceded when the totalitarian globalists installed a hostile regime in Kiev via coup and in violation of Ukraine's constitution. These areas are part of Russia. Kiev isn't going to get them back because the people who live there will not accept Kiev's rule.
If Ukraine were even militarily capable of conquering Crimea and the Donbass, and did so, there would be an ethnic cleansing magnitudes worse than what happened in Kosovo.
Is that what you "PutinRussiaManBad, Slava Ukraini!" people want? Because it's exactly what you're asking for when you say you want Russia to lose and Ukraine to win.
"@POTUS
I'll repeat today what I said one year ago as Russia invaded Ukraine.
A dictator bent on rebuilding an empire will never erase the people’s love of liberty.
Brutality will never grind down the will of the free.
And Ukraine will never be a victory for Russia. Never."
This shit would be laughable if it wasn't so tragic and harmful for us. Democracy? Freedom? Defense against aggression? Those are all the things Ukraine and NATO are fighting against with Russia. The votes were taken, the decision to sever ties with Kiev won the referendums by overwhelming margins, and now some territory that used to be Ukraine is part of Russia by choice and self determination.
What does victory for the US even look like here? Subjugation and genocide of Russians. WTF are we doing?
When you stop to think about who is to benefit from a war, you know the answer.
And it’s not you and me.
Stop huffing Putin's farts, Nardz.
You going there to fight?
Stop sucking McCain's dead dick, faggot.
Nothing says free and fair elections like winning with 99% of the vote.
Blue cities approve this message. Cook County stands up to applaud.
Here's the deal Nazi: if I break into your home and claim half of it as mine, it doesn't make it true.
99%? Democrats sometimes win with well over 100% of the vote.
If that comes to pass, you know the "liberals" in the West will cheer on the genocide.
Actually, the thing that is really laughable is that Ukrainians are dying out anyway, with a fertility rate of 1.2 and declining.
In a few decades, Russia will have disintegrated and Ukraine won’t exist anymore as a society.
Elliot Cohen is an idiot.
Oh, please. The Russians will take over all of Ukraine in the next few weeks. The outcome of this was never in doubt.
I heard that a year ago from commenters here. Except last year they were predicting 'days' not 'weeks'.
How will this war end?
The same way that WWI ended for Russia. When the Russian population and military officer corp discover that they fear the Tsar and his minions less than dying uselessly in battle for imperial ambitions. That day is coming, as Tsar Putin feeds poorly trained and poorly equipped mobnicks into the corpse grinder that is Ukraine.
Putin wants to pretend that this is an existential war for Russia...but the Russian people have plenty of doubts. It isn't Ukraine invading Russia, but the reverse. The only people who are really convinced that this is a war for existence as a people and a nation are the Ukrainians. Who heard Putin publically deny their right to independence or existence as a people. It's the difference between fighting for your lunch....and fighting for your life.
The war ends when the west stops funding a corrupt nazi sympathetic genocidal regime in Kiev, nuclear weapons start flying or EU members actually act like adults. Poland is calling for Ukraine to consider China’s proposal. Macron and Scholz are now advising Zelensky to meet with Russia in Paris to negotiate.
That’s possible. Or it’s possible that Ukraine runs out of fighters first.
And while the Russian people hate this war, they hate the West even more.
The Russians haven't even used WMDs yet. When they finally decide to mop this up, it will go quickly.
I agree, but I think it’s more than just the will of the Russian people here. You have to look carefully but it’s possible to see an actual principle at stake here. The Ukraine has met all possible criteria for sovereign state status and was in no way threatening the existence or even the sovereignty of Russia. The vast majority of ethnic Ukrainians and a clear majority of even the ethnic Russians in the Ukraine at the time of the breakup of the USSR voted to become independent and form a national government. Although there is not now, never has been and never will be a sovereign state on Earth that doesn’t have problems with corruption and a tendency towards abuse of power, Ukraine was not even remotely worse than the average, typical nation state. Putin’s excuses are so transparent as to be laughable. The world will be in a great deal of danger if rescuing ethnic Russians from “genocide” becomes generally acceptable. Although the tactics here are very tricky and NATO, the US and China need to be very, very careful, the principle is extremely important and MUST be defended one way or another.
HahahahahhaahahahHahaha
The ease of brainwashing people to believe complete fiction because they're too lazy to look up anything for themselves, and/or too stupid to think critically when they're told what to think is really well demonstrated by this post.
This could get interesting.
The Zman says he will meet with the Ximan to talk peace.
https://www.jpost.com/breaking-news/article-732656
If China can convince Russia to pull out of Ukraine, that would of course be a good thing. "Skeptical" is a reasonable approach to China at all times and in all situations.
Keep dreaming the dream. Once the Bear fully awakens from his slumber and brings his nation and economy to full mobilization, the Ukrainians will understand what the Germans did in 1943; the tide has turned and the outcome is no longer in question.
That’s the silliest thing I’ve heard in a long time. The Bear is already fully awake and is actually a Paper Tiger. The USSR collapsed due to incompetence and bankruptcy. Russia will do the same now and for the same reasons. Putin is already having trouble finding volunteers to die in Ukraine and would find it impossible to mobilize against NATO generally. Only time will tell if he and his oligarchs are crazy enough to actually launch a nuclear attack. The Communists weren’t that crazy.
Russia has committed 200k-250k troops so far. They've avoided the massive area bombing of the type the US led off with in Iraq. They've used their advanced weaponry very sparingly.
Meanwhile Kiev has taken 150k+ KIA. Kiev is kidnapping people off the streets and from their homes when they order pizza. Kiev is every day begging for more aid.
I bet you believe Putin has cancer, Parkinson's, and a broken hip too.
LOL
Even if Putin does become incapacitated, there is no one below him who could move up who would change course in Ukraine.
Fuck Off, Revanchist shitposter!
I think the most likely outcome is that Putin will finally realize that he is pouring billions of rubles and thousands of lives into a pointless land grab with no way to save face. If he had rolled into Ukraine with little resistance as he obviously hoped to do, things might be different. But since he proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that his vaunted and highly feared military was a paper tiger, with half of his equipment failing in the first days floundering in the mud; and the organization and command structure turning out to be totally incompetent, he is now having to fall back on mercenaries, the traditional paranoia of half his political supporters and a very leaky propaganda system. I believe a long nasty military stalemate will bleed the Russian oligarchy faster than it will bleed NATO and the US. Putin’s oligarchs will either topple him or off him within the next few months. Or declare victory and withdraw as they did in Afghanistan.
And if you don't get vaccinated and wear a mask while standing 6 feet away from everyone, you're going to kill granny!
This isn’t “a pointless landgrab”. Ukraine is of immense strategic importance to Russia and Russia’s fossil fuel exports depend on controlling it. That’s why Putin has been clear for two decades that integrating Ukraine into NATO or the EU was a red line. They would have continued to tolerate a neutral independent Ukraine.
Russia is going to continue this for as long as they can. If they can’t win conventionally they may escalate to nuclear because the people are secondary to them. They mainly care about control of the territory.
The Ukrainian people were doomed from the start anyway: at fertility rates of 1.2 and declining, there wasn’t going to be a Ukrainian people in a few decades anyway, and they are now running out of men long before Russia.
Costly as this is to Russia, it’s Ukraine that’s bleeding dry. If the West wants to win this, the West will have to put European and American boots on the ground. And even then, there will be not much left of Ukraine.
The democrats have wanted a war with Russia for years. Hillary’s campaign made it clear this would have happened had she become president. Now we’re fpgettimg tje retard version with Biden.
We’ll see whether there is any appetite for Western boots on the ground, because Ukraine is running out of people.
So is Russia.
Russia has 5x the number of fighting age men than Ukraine and it's far better at recruiting them.
In the long run, Russia's demographics also look better: even if Ukraine somehow remains independent, it won't matter.
How many more draft age men are you willing to see flee out of your country Ivan?
Why would any draft age man flee America at this point?
How about your country? What is your country, by the way?
Funny, Putin and Kirill were cliaming the invasion was all about "genocide," LGBTQ Pride Parades in Kiiv, and fighting The Devil. So which is it?
They are the same. Russia wants to protect its strategic interests so that the West can’t pressure it to comply with its social and cultural mandates.
Like what? Don't be genocidal maniacs?
For starters, the imposition of Western neo-liberal economic policies, policies that have created the Russian oligarchs in the first place. The average Russian hates those.
In addition, the imposition of Western cultural values: LGBTQ rights, anti-racism, neo-Marxism, etc. The average Russian hates those as well.
In other words, Russia doesn’t want to turn into Hungary, Poland, or Turkey, dependent client states endlessly attacked and pressured by Germany, France, and the US, and with little ability to determine their own future.
I’m not stating a moral judgement or personal preference here, I’m just explaining to you the dynamics and why Putin talks the way he does: it resonates with his people. And you can beat your chest all you want, it’s not going to change their views.
It is about genocide. Except Russia is the one doing it.
The US reserve currency will go first and then it is game over in a larger sense. Europe is a economic basketcase with massive debt, low birthrates, no work ethic, and no morality or religion anymore (climate change I suppose is a religion but based on welfare and cultural marxism). China/India and Asia with morals, one people/one culture will determine this. the US is broke and leaders writing checks their industry which is gone can't cash. This war is the end of the Neolib/Neocon American Empire. I do hope the globalists who captured American policy elites are shown the door. American kids (Irish, Italian, German, Greek) are not enlisting anymore. Had to have an empire protected by trannies...
The War in Ukraine is tough.
1) The United States of America should not be involved in the affairs of Ukraine.
2) The Russian Federation should not be involved in the affairs of Ukraine.
3) The USA and NATO countries has expanded and encroached into territory that was previously part of the Soviet Union and what was considered part of the sphere of influence of Russia.
4) The USA and NATO countries sowed the seeds and/or supported a Ukrainian movement to remove a Pro-Russian President and replace with a Pro-West President.
5) Russia seized part of Ukraine under the cover of the Olympics and annexed it because they didn't like the state of Ukrainian politics.
6) Russia granted Russian Citizenship to Ukrainians in the Donbas regions of Ukraine.
7) Russia supported and promoted separatists including active military support and/or military logistical support.
8) The USA and NATO countries were supplying military aid to Ukraine prior to the Russian Invasion of 2022.
9) Both the United States of America and the Russian Federation in exchange for Ukraine to eliminate their nuclear weapons to provide military support as an ally if Ukraine was attacked.
10) The USA and NATO have conduct "War Games" near the Russian border at times and have been considered provocative by Russia.
11) Russia has conduct "War Games" near NATO countries and have been considered provocative by NATO.
12) Russia used the cover of "War Games" to position masses of troops and launch an attack Ukraine from Belorussian territory.
13) Russia is occupying Territory that is considered Ukrainian by everyone prior to the Russian Invasion of 2022.
14) Russia has claimed the disputed Ukrainian territories have been annexed and are now part of the Russian Federation.
15) Russia has seized territory from other neighboring countries and claimed the territory as Russian. (Transnistria from Moldova, Abkhazia from Georgia, South Ossetia from Georgia, Crimea from Ukraine, Donetsk from Ukraine, Luhansk from Ukraine, Kuril Islands from Japan)
16) Neither the United States of America nor the Russian Federation are without sins and both act like big bullies of the world.
17) Essentially the Ukrainian war is proxy war between the United States of America and the Russian Federation.
18) Both Biden and Putin are fools
I'm not sure as neither side is in the right and both sides are in the wrong. I'm anti-war, which means all wars. I'm not the kind of anti-war person who is really just either anti-USA or anti-Russia.
I've been disappointed in many people who claim to be anti-war and even anti-war leaders, but seem to have taken a side Such as being so anti-USA-war the appear to be pro-Russian war. How can you be anti-war but, but seem okay with a Russian war?
I get tired of the opposing sides spinning their propaganda. I'm disgusted these anti-war leaders who seem more pro-Russian and Anti-USA rail against Pro-USA propaganda while spinning Pro-Russian propaganda. Are these anti-war leaders who seem more pro-Russian and Anti-USA oblivious to the reality that both sides are spinning BS?
I suppose the best outcome would be a breakup of the Russian Federation into smaller countries, the breakup of the NATO into individual countries, and the breakup of the United States of America into smaller countries.
While I'm on a breakup roll, why not breakup Canada, China, Australia, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina. There are probably more, but basically smaller is better. Large countries are corrupt an become global bullies.
This is another example of Washington's addiction to foreign interventionism and military adventurism, with no end in sight. At least not until the nation collapses like Rome, with its massive debt, 800 foreign military bases and out of control spending and borrowing from the Fed. Recession is looming in the headlights and no one in Washington seems to be aware or even care.
America's collapse will be a relief to the rest of the world as it won't be able to intervene anywhere including within its own borders.
This is one war Washington should have never started. Obama and crew, Nudelman, Clinton and Rice along with NATO cooked this up into one toxic brew and the suffering and pain they have caused makes them into war criminals.
The worst of it is, tens of thousands of people are paying for it on both sides and those responsible for this disaster will walk away without regret or self condemnation.
The world court should hold those responsible for this calamity and denounce them as the criminals they are. Only a trial with the entire world looking on is fitting for those responsible.
Just some random thoughts.
Ukraine would fall like a house of cards without massive aid from the West. Even with that aid the last year has been a disaster for Ukraine with significant deaths and a huge loss of infrastructure. While I have seen estimates vary no one is suggesting Ukraine's economy is anything but a complete disaster.
The US policy in Ukraine is so muddled it is not easy to think it can continue the way it has been going. The 'frog in hot water' approach has resulted in a slow but obvious increase in the type of aid going to Ukraine. It started out as humanitarian but has now reached the point that while Biden has nixed F-16 "for now" that is still not completely off the table. On the other hand while the US/Biden has agreed to send modern tanks it appears they will arrive in 2024 at the earliest. There does seem to be a real shift in public support for aid to Ukraine even if the pols on both sides are saying it will continue no matter what.
It is amusing to see some peeps claim the sanctions on Russia are/will make a difference. Russia was a shithole country before it sent troops to Ukraine and still is a shithole country. Does anyone think that average Russian's live is any worse now than before.
On the other hand for what ever the reason most Americans' (and probably Europeans too) lives really are worse and by most accounts will continue to get worse do the what is happening in the economy. I would bet dollars to donuts that as the economy gets worse support for sending big bucks to Ukraine will fall.
Bottom line is the US policy towards Ukraine is not sustainable and will have to change; probably sooner rather than later.

The US foreign policy elites plan at this point is regime change in Russia and that means a bolshevik style revolution but in this case a controlled "Troytsky" like leader (trans woman would be perfect) takes over. Neolibs/neocons have a "thing" with Russia and an obsession with global control by elites. They care not about draining America or getting rural kids killed in stupid wars for the MIC or Goldman Sachs..hell they all make millions on pro war regime. Reagan kept these scumbags at bay but Bush let a few in, Clinton and the rest let them take over. Just like in academia, the media, and big tech...authoritarian cultural marxists...We need to purge them and regain the John Q Adams foreign policy and pro American virtuous public servants. Look how Blinkin made his millions...Epstein is proud.

Biden’s War in Ukraine Has No End in Sight, Biden has no plan, to win, to exit, to stop spending money we don’t have. Typical Biden incompetence.
Got it. One year is too long. So if Poland hadn't been liberated by September 1940, we should have just let Hitler have it, right?
Some of the Russian trolls here would agree with that.
history lesson. Poland was a dictatorship in 1939. It had fought off Troytky's invasion by the Bolsheviks and had delusions of being the most powerful state in Europe. Poland grabbed what is could when Czech was split up. Hitler's aim was to destroy the bolsheviks and needed Poland to either join his war against the commies or allow German passage. Poland did neither and listened to the insanity of GB and France (neither had any ability to stop Germany from invading Poland).
And recall if WW2 started with the intent to liberate Poland at the end Poland became a satellite of the USSR..it wasn't liberated.
As for Ukraine today, Crimea is Russian or if you want to play the long game, Turkish. The objective (if there is one by the US neocon/neolibs who control our foreign policy) is now russian regime change. Given their political views that means a new bolsheik revolution led by a western controlled Troystky. With all the gender pride, sexual mutilation, anti Christian, pro central banking authoritarian views which the Blinkens and Nulands and Kagan's hold dear. The deeper specter here is the cultural marxists who are driving the US into another war.
You're asking the wrong question. The right question is how did it get to that point in the first place. Hitler, like Putin, was the result of progressive economic and foreign policy failures, foremost due to Wilson.
