Brickbat: Language Police

Quebec business leaders say a new law taking effect this year that requires many companies to use the French language will increase their costs and could make it harder for them to serve clients overseas or even in the rest of Canada. Bill 96 requires firms with more than 25 employees to certify they conduct business primarily in French and to make sure other languages are spoken in the workplace as little as possible. The law also mandates that contracts be in French, even if both parties would prefer another language. Firms would also have to justify to regulators if they recruit employees who speak a language other than French. Companies that violate the law face fines of up to $30,000 (about $22,000 U.S.).

I earn $100 per hour while taking risks and travelling to remote parts of the world. I worked remotely last week while in Rome, Monte Carlo, and eventually Paris. I’m back in the USA this week. I only perform simple activities from this one excellent website.

Good decision
I can see all sorts of midsized companies looking to move their headquarters to Quebec now. Being forced to conduct business with these restrictions in place would be a boon for any company.
The French and their unearned arrogance manifest.
I trust all of the other provinces have banded together and declared speaking French to be a capital offense. (Quebec doesn't actually speak French, they speak a bastardized version of French an actual Frenchman would have trouble understanding.)
a bastardized version of French
Similar to the variations in American and British English
Don't forget Ozzie and Kiwi English.
No, not even close. More similar to the difference between Italian and Spanish.
No. Quebecois is markedly different.
Sounds reasonable. We should do that in the US, but go farther. Require that English be the only language spoken or printed, and that the Oxford comma be used at all times.
I usually try to use proper grammar, proper spelling and Oxford commas, but for this reply I'm making an exception.
Take your Oxford comma back to England, Tory.
Mon Dieu. Je vais devoir déménager en Floride
Desperate last ditch attempt to save a dead language.
It’s so simple; just govern harder. Which will only create a plethora of new problems for the government to “solve” with even more government
This is going to result in people learning just enough broken French to conduct their business, and the Francophone community will be worse off for it.
Interesting comments. Now, if the US did the same thing with English, I wonder what the reaction from the commentariat would be.
Sauce for the goose......
In this schizophrenic world double standards are the norm.

Quebec French: A language so lovely, you have to force people to use it.
This is NOT what I expected when I read the title "Language Police".
Talk about "too local".

Perhaps they can tear down some statues while they're at it.
Think of all the damage done to the cause of having people appreciate French and diversity. I wish your arricje had included social and attitude matters rather than mostly financial and business matters.
